THE VIDEO DEAD: I think this movie tried to kill me.

In THE VIDEO DEAD everything is dead. The story starts off promising then dies about ten minutes in without any hope of resuscitation. The acting was horribly eccentric and forced like bad community actors in a play written and directed by a five year old. I can't believe all these people were that bad as actors. They all had to have gone to Bad Acting Classes or something. Nobody can be that bad and not that many people all at once. It was more than a handsome old man such as myself could handle. I don't think the actors were intentionally trying to kill me with their poor acting skills but the director may have with all his awkward close ups capturing every forced unbelievable expression on their generic faces.

All the characters are about as interesting as a box of Post-It notes. In fact by the end of the movie you will hate them and rejoice in their demise knowing that with every death the movie slugs along closer and closer to its sure to be unimpressive finale. I was always curious about this film back in the day when I was a kid. It was one of those VHS covers that always caught my eye but never did I rent it. Too scary. Finally after twenty years I watched the damnable thing. It sucked. In fact THE VIDEO DEAD sucked so bad I'm pretty sure it took years off my life. Well it was nice knowing you folks.  Click here to read the rest....

October 31: Midnight Son [2012]

MIDDAY MOON, LLC Presents:
Midnight Son [2012]
written and directed by Scott Leberecht

MIDNIGHT SON is the story of Jacob, a young man confined to a life of isolation, due to a rare skin disorder that prevents him from being exposed to sunlight. His world opens up when he meets Mary, a local bartender, and falls in love. Tragically, Jacob’s actions become increasingly bizarre as he struggles to cope with the effects of his worsening condition. Forced by the disease to drink human blood for sustenance, he must control his increasingly violent tendencies as local law enforcement narrow their focus on him as a
suspect in a series of grisly murders.

5/5 lost souls find each other in the night while searching for the sun light, more like the night finds them... I really enjoyed this for it's very subtle approach and honest guy who just wants to survive his little secret.

Midnight Son [2012] - Kays Al-atrakchi

Midnight Son [2012]
Music By: Kays Al-atrakchi
Released by: Midday Moon, LLC [CLICK HERE]

About the composer: Born in Florence, Italy, Kays discovered his passion for creating music at an early age under the tutelage of accomplished classical music teachers. He attended college at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston where he graduated Cum Laude. A Los Angeles resident since 2004, Kays' unique approach to textural and mood-setting compositions has resulted in a number of well received film scores, such as CUTTING ROOM, which yielded the Best Soundtrack award at the Milan International Film Festival, ZZYZX, THE BROS., BELIEVERS, ALIEN RAIDERS, and THE OBJECTIVE. In 2009, Kays avant-garde score for the short film RITE debuted at the Sundance Film Festival, and in January 2010 Kays original score to the re-imagined Bertolt Brecht play BAAL premiered in Los Angeles to raving reviews. Kays' music has been heard on television in a number of shows like American Idol, The Dog Whisperer, Celebrity Fit Club, Unique Whips, and in many theatrical trailers around the world.

5/5 Just like the film, it's a great piece of independent work and is good... I find that the score heightens the ideas and brings it altogether and home from start to finish.

October 30: BLACK SABBATH - Les Baxter

BLACK SABBATH [1963-2012]
Music By: Les Baxter
Available: Now [Check: Label for More Details]
Released By: INTRADA

Intrada Special Collection Volume 215

World premiere release of U.S. score for American International Pictures horror film directed by Mario Bava, starring Boris Karloff. Many prints of film feature Italian score but MGM vaults did yield complete Les Baxter scoring masters for all but final reel (roughly five minutes). Fortunately, M&E elements (music & effects without dialog) were available, allowing entire score to be presented in excellent mono as recorded for film. Though happily without dialog, those last few minutes do have requisite footsteps, doors, horses, whatnot. (Remaining 53-minutes of score play from excellent condition scoring session rolls). Film divides into three separate tales with separate scores for each tale as well. Interestingly, Baxter writes each score with attention to overall architecture of music, allows numerous smaller pieces to connect by key, motivic structure or color perfectly from one piece to the next. Three rich, cohesive suites are the result. "The Drop Of Water" offers complex, involved score with exposed ideas for strings, woodwinds getting spotlight. "The Telephone" offers dramatic score in symphonic jazz mode with generous amount of music dropped from final production of film. "The Wurdalak" is longest score, with powerful ideas, florid Eastern Europe flavor and rich symphonic colors getting attention. Action, vampire terror, rich love theme are all on display!

5/5 Talk about the classics this is one for all your collections, well it is... Intrada is bringing the best from the crypts this year... it should be noted.

October 28: Killjoy/Scarecrow Box Set

----------------------------------
----------------------------------
The world is full of bad movies with good fun and this is any different and all in one place, yes 6 movies and one crazy disaster after another. Now that might sound bashing the truth is I find bad movies to be good movies, if you think about it. These folks make movies on a budget and they try to give you the best within their respective budgets. Some movies that come out have super big huge bankrolls, cash, big bucks and the studio backing. Here we have movies that bring you the best they can do and I bring you the best... I can do... like them or hate them, they are there. I bring you KILLJOY/SCARECROW COMPLETE SERIES a box set from "Echo Bridge Entertainment" and here is a little info about both...

Killjoy is a horror film franchise which focuses on the titular Killjoy, a demonic clown who is summoned to assist revenge plots in all three films, only to prove too overwhelming for each character who calls him. Produced by Full Moon Features, the series was established in 2000 with the eponymous first installment, starring Ángel Vargas. A sequel, Killjoy 2: Deliverance from Evil, followed in 2002, which saw Trent Haaga replace Vargas for the role of Killjoy due to Vargas being busy with other projects. In spite of the negative reception of both films, Full Moon filmed a third installment while shooting Puppet Master: Axis of Evil in China, and in 2010 Killjoy 3 was released. Haaga reprised his role for Killjoy 3, eight years after the release of the previous film.

Scarecrow is a 2002 direct-to-video horror film B movie, directed by French director Emmanuel Itier. It stars B movie scream queen Tiffany Shepis and Tim Young as lester among others, including director and cofounder of Oingo Boingo Richard Elfman. The film is described as "so bad it's good", due to its poor acting, writing, and overall story.

Scarecrow Slayer is a 2003 low-budget horror film, which is a sequel to the 2002 film Scarecrow. The film was a direct-to-video release, as well as its predecessor, and its 2004 sequel Scarecrow Gone Wild.

Scarecrow Gone Wild is a low budget film released in 2004 about a group of college co-eds who are hunted down by a killer Scarecrow after a hazing ritual sends one male student into a coma.

The film is the third in a series of films about Scarecrows who kill people. The first two are Scarecrow and Scarecrow Slayer. The film was directed and written by Brian Katkin. Ken Shamrock, former NWA World Heavyweight Champion, appears in the film as the coach. Despite portraying a secondary role, Shamrock recieved top billing.

Now there is a forth Killjoy Film coming soon called "Killjoy Goes To Hell"... I find in all cases these films got better as they released more, but that is my crazy opinion.

October 27: Screamworks Records [2012]

I wanted to put many of these scores on a separate post, but I have been over run by "Horror Scores" this month I wanted to share them... they are all by the same great label "Screamworks Records" and all available now!!

Dead Souls [2012]
Music by: Matthew Llewellyn and Jonathan Bartz

Screamworks Records proudly presents one of the most impressive genre scores we’ve heard recently: the large orchestral score for the original Chiller movie, Dead Souls, an adaptation of the Michael Laimo novel starring Bill Moseley and Jesse James. Composers Matthew Llewellyn and Jonathan Bartz (both scoring team members on several Brian Tyler scores including The Expendables 2 and Final Destination 5) has created a wonderfully old-school horror score that pays tribute, above all, to Bernard Herrmann but also more modern scoring icons such as Alan Silvestri (the action writing) and John Williams (the romantic material).

Spiders 3D [2012]
Music by:  Joseph Conlan

Featuring a vibrant and exciting score composed by veteran composer and two time Emmy nominee Joseph Conlan (Toolbox Murders, Mortuary, Behind Enemy Lines: Colombia), Tibor Takacs’ 3D spectacular Spiders 3D is currently gaining success at various festivals, including the Los Angeles 3D Film Festival where it won several awards, and will soon be in cinemas and on DVD throughout the world.

The soundtrack is filled with tense action music and is a modern hybrid score where orchestral flavors meet attractive electronics and pounding rhythm programming. While the score is modern in style, it also has more majestic, larger-than-life elements that evokes the awe and wonder juxtaposing the sheer terror of the giant monsters in the film. Spiders 3D is a fun and entertaining monster score that will attract a lot of fans of the genre!

Thale [2012]
Music by:  Raymond Enoksen & Geirmund Simonsen

Following last year’s surprise hit from Norway, Troll Hunter, the fantasy thriller Thale combines Norwegian folklore with contemporary thriller storytelling. The film has a quickly growing fanbase and is on the verge of reaching cult status, currently being shown in festivals and getting its US release early 2013.

Screamworks Records is proud to release the original score from the film, composed by Raymond Enoksen and Geirmund Simonsen who works out of Dreamscores Studios in Oslo. Their atmospherically rich and stylistically unique contribution to the film makes use of Norwegian folk music elements, beautiful cello, fiddle and vocal solos (sung by folk music specialist Liv Ulvik) and mesmerizing, ominous and foreboding electronic sonorities. It is one of those scores that get under your skin with its seductive beauty and underlying elements of terror!

Truth Or Dare [2012]
Music by: Richard Pryn

Described by Shock Horror Magazine as “shockingly good” and by Horrorhound Magazine as “superbly suspenseful, smart, sexy and grisly”, UK horror film Truth or Dare (known as Truth or Die in the USA) features a dark and mesmerizing score by newcomer Richard Pryn. Truth or Dare is his first major feature film where he showcases an intense and adrenaline-pumping style where extremely dark sonorities meet elements of orchestral avant garde, industrial distortion (Pryn achieved a distinction in electric guitar performance at the ACM in Guildford!) and unsettling harmonic textures.
Truth or Dare is a modern horror score with diverse elements and one that keeps its audience on the edge of its seats – just like a horror score is supposed to!

Screamworks Records

5/5 Oh and by the way, they are awesome and a great addition for you collection!!

Six Strings with… Drew Seeley

Man of many talents and all around nice person, I wanted to thank Drew for the chance to talk... best to him and to all that he should do!
-Jeremy [Retro-Zombie]

I watched the film “I Kissed A Vampire” I am not sure I am your direct demographics, but I found myself enjoying the songs and felt more in touch when the character Dr. Dan Helsing [Chris Coppola] was introduced. You played Trey Sylvanie and worked with Lucas Grabeel [Dylan Knight] who I know from his work on Smallville, now this is not the first time you worked with him. How did this go from an internet project to being made into a film?

Drew Seeley: We shot some short webisodes a few years ago, and the response was really great. At that point there wasn't enough story to turn it into a feature, so Laurie and Chris Nolan went back into the writing room and then the cast all reconvened later that year to shoot what became the rest of it.

What involvement did you have from start to finish?

Drew Seeley: I'm an actor in it and have an associate producer credit. Also I was able to help the very talented composer, Frankie Blue with some vocal arrangement.

What are some of the things you will take away from this film… did they ever give up the need to dance in the end or that might give way to a sequel?

Drew Seeley: I don't think there are any plans for a sequel at the moment but never say never right?
Working with Disney for some of your projects, do you feel the need to free yourself from that wholesome atmosphere as many of young actors feel the need to do? Or is it good to keep them as that great stepping stone and appreciate the doors it has opened for you.

Drew Seeley: I don't consciously avoid projects because of the audience. If the character is one that interests me for whatever reason, I'll usually take a chance.

The whole time I had been watching “I Kissed A Vampire” I was trying to place your face [not in a weird way]… I checked your credits and I remembered from the film horror film “The Shortcut”… so how do you go from the cleaner side of Disney to the scary side of this horror film. What was that experience like because I believe you stepped out of your norm for the first time?

Drew Seeley: It was one of my favorite filming experiences because it was so unlike anything I'd done before. We shot mostly at night and in the woods, and it's true it is more fun when you're not playing the nice guy.
You also work with many charitable groups in a “Give Back” way, which is very commendable and that is what I admire of your whole persona. You are so going in the right direction as a person in the media, can you give advice to others or talk about the cause you feel most strongly about.

Drew Seeley: I have a soft spot for children suffering for any reason, so I visit lots of hospitals to meet them and try to cheer them up with music or stories, or just spending time and talking. There are so many things to get behind, I just encourage everyone out there to really look inside and find out what is important to them, and then take action and get involved.

What is next? Simple, I cannot imagine the next adventure you might take. I so wanted to thank you for you time, it was a great pleasure to get to know you and more about the work you have been part of.

Drew Seeley: Thanks!  Well always working on new music. Also have two movies coming out next year, "Lovestruck"  and 'Yellow Day'.  And of course getting married next April to my awesome fiance, Amy Paffrath, who played Luna Dark alongside me in 'I kissed a vampire'.  Should be a year to remember.

---------------

Bio: Drew Seeley is a Canadian actor, dancer, recording artist and songwriter. In 2005, Drew co-wrote “Getcha Head in the Game” for Disney’s quadruple platinum High School Musical soundtrack, and received an Emmy nomination in the “Best Original Song and Lyrics” category. In addition, Drew co-starred in the North American and Latin American tours of “High School Musical: The Concert” playing lead character Troy Bolton in 60,000 seat arenas.

Also on stage, Drew recently starred on Broadway as Prince Eric in ‘The Little Mermaid’ and was an original cast member in Harold Prince’s revival of ‘Showboat’. He has written and/or recorded music for over 10 Disney soundtracks and compilations including Disney Mania (4,5,6,7), Shake It Up, Cheetah Girls 2, Jump In! Wizards of Waverly Place, Alvin & the Chipmunks, and Disney Channel Christmas. He has recently been on a national tour performing original music from his debut album ‘The Resolution’ and has shot four music videos in support of it.

His film and television career has included roles on One Tree Hill, The Closer, The Suite Life, and a starring turn in Warner Premiere’s Another Cinderella Story, playing pop star Joey Parker opposite Selena Gomez. Drew also co-wrote and performs 4 songs in the film. One of these songs, New Classic, enjoyed a slot on Radio Disney’s Top 10 countdown for 2 months, and the music video has surpassed 3 million views on YouTube.

Additionally, Drew starred alongside 30 Rock’s Katrina Bowden in the Adam Sandler produced film, ‘The Shortcut’, reunited with HSM alum Lucas Grabeel for the rock musical, ‘I Kissed A Vampire’, and portrayed the title character in the Hallmark Channel original movie, ‘Freshman Father’. The film, which is based on a true story, also includes ‘Best At The Time’, co-penned by Drew.

Most recently, Drew starred in the TBS series, Glory Daze, playing an aspiring politician named Jason Wilson and just finished shooting the film Elixir for ABC Family opposite Chelsea Kane.

I just wanted to let everyone know that STAGE FRIGHT the web series is now available for viewing. October 25: I Kissed A Vampire: The Rock Musical

I Kissed A Vampire: The Rock Musical
Vampire rock musical web series starring Lucas Grabeel, Drew Seeley, and introducing Adrian Slade. It was one of the most popular webseries ever to appear on iTunes and has been made into a film featuring 17 songs. The film premiered in March 2012. The music is written by Frankie Blue, lyrics by Blue and Chris Sean Nolan, and the script is by Laurie Nolan and Nolan. Drew Seeley and Lucas Grabeel both were in High School Musical: The Concert.

I Kissed a Vampire is a musical look at the struggles of falling in love when you're in the middle of becoming a vampire. Dylan is terrified when he is bitten by a bat, and then transformed into one of the living dead. His world is turned upside down, and he has to figure out how to balance his budding romance with Sara, the girl next door, and the bloodthirsty desires of his vampire mentor Trey.

Released by Monterey Media Inc.

Special teen review of this film "SB" and her first thoughts and impression...

Coming from a 13 year old girl I truly thought the movie was not that bad. In my opinion, I think the acting in the movie could have been a little better than what it was.

Adrian Slade, who played Sara Slade in the movie, was my favorite character. When she sang her voice was amazing! She was a good pick for the part of Sara. She is a really good actress.

Even though Lucas Grabeel, who played Dylan Knight, was another good pick for the part, I kept thinking that the acting could have been a little better than what it was.

I liked many of the songs in the movie. “Forbidden Planet” sung by Sara Slade, that was my favorite song throughout the whole movie. I really enjoyed that song. Another was “Justa Drop”, sung by Dylan and Sara. The last song of the movie, “Happily After Life” was also very good. It had an upbeat sound throughout the whole song. Even the ballad with Sara and Trey was really good.

The movie was not that bad. I do wish the acting was a little better. I don’t think I would recommend this movie to any of my friends. I give this movie 3 stars out of 5.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I found this movie just a bit out of my age range so I was turned this to her for insight.

October 24: The Comedy Of Terrors [2012] - Les Baxter

The Comedy Of Terrors
Music By: Les Baxter
Available: Now [Check: Label for More Details]
Released By: INTRADA

Intrada Special Collection Volume 218

World premiere release of spooky 'n' kooky Les Baxter score for American International fright picture, directed by esteemed Jacques Tourneur, starring Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, Boris Karloff, Basil Rathbone. Quartet of iconic stars should be enough to attract attention but add Richard Matheson script, story about undertaker needing fresh "supplies" to keep business afloat and ingredients for fun are built in. Les Baxter keeps that in mind, writes music with equal parts fun, fear. Rare for Baxter/AIP projects, MGM vaults happily contained complete score as recorded in mono, with all rolls in beautiful condition. Baxter writes for orchestra with economy in mind. Everything plays briskly to keep pace with picture, remains transparent in keeping with light touch.

5/5 Outstanding joy... and the film is fun too...

His stern father gives him a pony, and he learns some hard lessons about life and death in the months to come.  The cast included none other than Henry Fonda and Maureen O’Hara, with Clint Howard as the young boy.  The production was acclaimed.   Fonda was especially pleased with the project (which was nominated for eight Emmy Awards) and said at the time, “Of all [Steinbeck's] works, and I’ve read everything he’s ever done, I think I like The Red Pony best. It’s a classic.”

This classic John Scott score from 1987 returns in the Varèse Encore series.  The score features a justly famous main theme which is unquestionably one of Scott’s best.  The unusual thing here though is that its fame is largely due to it's appearance in another movie entirely.  The resolution and embrace between John and Holly McClane at the end of Die Hard … that’s John Scott’s Man On Fire.  Sweeping and lush.  Other parts of the score – much more intense.  Remastered and available for the first time in over two decades !

King Kong Lives [2012]

Released By: INTRADA

Intrada Special Collection Volume 214

Much belated U.S. premiere on CD of dynamic, thrilling John Scott score for John Guillerman film about the big ape's new love... and his rampage when things don't go well. Scott creates rich overall theme for Kong and his lady and powerful edgier theme for arch enemy Col. Nemit. Both play throughout score in dramatic manner. Highlights are many but "Lady Kong Gets Gassed" merits spotlight. Scott also does courtesy of ending what he starts with stirring, fortissimo coda in major key. Powerful! Scott produced album in 1987, representing every major sequence of his score for terrific a record. CD did happen in Japan but only with intrusive ape roars. Happily, UMG vault masters of original U.S. album were available in perfect condition... without the grunts.

5/5 On the KONG scale, oh why did the score have to be better than the film. I am not to sure, but you are a fan you must get this release from Intrada.

Released By: LAKESHORE RECORDS

Based on the poignantly optimistic autobiographical writings of California–based journalist and poet Mark O’Brien (John Hawkes), THE SESSIONS tells the story of a man who lived most of his life in an iron lung who is determined - at age 38 - to lose his virginity.   With the help of his therapist (Helen Hunt) and the guidance of his priest (William H. Macy), he sets out to make his dream a reality.

4/5 Great cast for a seemingly sad story, Marco Beltrami entertains us for a very short time.

October 21: Puppet Master: Axis of Evil

Puppet Master: Axis of Evil (Otherwise known as Puppet Master 9: Axis of Evil ) directed by David DeCoteau (Puppet Master III: Toulon's Revenge) is the 10th entry into the Puppet Master series of horror films but the ninth entry that's canon to the series made by Charles Band's Full Moon Features.

Someone has some explaining to do, this is a twister of bad acting and hellish Germans... and one silly geisha!  It is a new concept, even though the trailer looks deceiving. If you missed those puppets, you are in luck they are here!

The Good Doctor [2012] - Brian Byrne

The Good Doctor
Music By: Brian Byrne
Available: Now [Check: Label for Release Date]
Released By: LAKESHORE RECORDS

---------------------------------------

Martin Blake (Orlando Bloom) is an ambitious but anxious young doctor, eager to impress his superiors and colleagues: Chief Resident Waylans (Rob Morrow), self-assured fellow intern Dan (Troy Garity) and no-nonsense nurse Theresa (Taraji P. Henson). But things are not going Martin’s way and he can’t seem to shake off his insecurities. When 18-year-old patient Diane (Riley Keough) is admitted for a kidney infection, Martin steps in, getting the much-needed boost of self-esteem he craves. But things take a dark turn as his enthusiasm begins to become an obsession.

Byrne was influenced by the medical setting of The Good Doctor in his approach to the score.  “I wanted to use the sound of a heart monitor as a percussive sound along with the live strings,” he described. “I really liked this effect as it put the hospital into the score.”

5/5 Yes... another THRILLER, but if I write with bigger letters it might seem more spooky! It is a great score full of wonderful temperatures of music...

James Bond's Skyfall [2012] - Thomas Newman

Skyfall
Music By: Thomas Newman
Available: November 6, 2012
Released By: SONY MASTERWORKS

Starting with American Beauty in 1999, Thomas Newman has collaborated on all but one of Mendes’ films. One of the most respected composers in the film business, he has scored more than fifty feature films and has been nominated for ten Academy Awards®, nine times in the category Best Original Score and once for Best Original Song. He has won a BAFTA, two Grammys and an Emmy, and has also been nominated for a Golden Globe. Born in Los Angeles, he comes from a prominent Hollywood musical dynasty: his father Alfred Newman, brother David, sister Maria and uncle Lionel all composed music for the movies, and his cousin is the noted singer-songwriter and film composer Randy Newman.

Newman’s first major work in movies was in 1984 for Reckless. He composed the scores for Erin Brockovich and The Good German for director Steven Soderbergh, as well as for such acclaimed films as Finding Nemo, The Player, The Shawshank Redemption, Wall-E, The Help and The Horse Whisperer. Recent work includes the scores, also released by Sony Classical, of The Iron Lady and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Newman has composed for television, including the HBO miniseries Angels In America, and the theme for Six Feet Under, which won him Grammys for Best Instrumental Composition and Best Instrumental Arrangement. He also has been commissioned to write orchestral concert music.

5/5 Okay my biggest concern is replacing David Arnold with Thomas Newman, not that Newman couldn't do the score it has just been in the hands of Arnold for sometime. I believe in the style of any James Bond film, this is done very well and I was pleased in the end.

Lincoln is the latest product of John Williams’ historic, 40-year collaboration with Steven Spielberg, during which he’s composed the music for all but one of the director's feature films. His work includes the music for all of the Star Wars and Indiana Jones films, the first three Harry Potter films, Jaws, Superman, E.T. The Extra-terrestrial, Schindler’s List, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Memoirs of a Geisha, and Jurassic Park. Williams has won five Academy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, seven BAFTA Awards and no fewer than 21 Grammy Awards – a breathtaking lifetime’s achievement. His total of 47 Academy Award nominations makes him the Academy’s most-nominated living person and has been exceeded only by Walt Disney. Williams also has written numerous acclaimed works for the concert hall, and serves as Conductor Laureate of the Boston Pops Orchestra and Artist in Residence at Tanglewood.

October 20: Sinister [2012] - Christopher Young

Sinister [2012]
Music By: Christopher Young
Available: October 30, 2012
Released By: VARESE SARABANDE

SINISTER is a frightening new thriller from the producer of the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY films and the writer-director of THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE. Ethan Hawke plays a true crime novelist who discovers a box of mysterious, disturbing home movies that plunge his family into a nightmarish experience of supernatural horror.

5/5 Now I would love to say this is a happy score, but it's meant to scare you... and it does. Not in a traditional way, but in a atmospheric way... giving you more depth.

October 19: Puppet Master: The Legacy

Puppet Master: The Legacy (Otherwise known as Puppet Master 8: The Legacy ) is a 2003 Direct-to-DVD horror film written by C. Courtney Joyner and David Schmoeller, and directed by Charles Band. It is the eighth film in the Puppet Master franchise, the sequel to 1994's Puppet Master 5: The Final Chapter, and stars Jacob Witkin as an elderly Peter Hertz (a character who appeared as a child in Puppet Master III: Toulon's Revenge) and Kate Orsini as a mercenary hired to confront Hertz for information regarding the magic puppeteer Andre Toulon used to animate his puppets.

It's a highlight of all the puppet master films up to this point, someone shoot me... Hello can someone say "quick buck" or "we finally jumped that shark"! My advice is get the box set from "Echo Bridge Entertainment" and save yourself the headache of wanting to punch yourself.

DREDD: Why didn't any of you go see this film?

DREDD............It was violent. It was unapologetically rated R. It was smart so of course that means it bombs big time at the box office. You know what that means? Some movie studio big shots are going to say, "R rated action movies are out and PG-13 is back in. Somebody call Len Wiseman and tell him to direct all the DIE HARDS from now on." Dang it, people! This was a movie that needed our support. It did everything just about right. DREDD is a unique movie for this day and age. To me at least it was a special movie going experience. Oddly enough it was what the movie didn't do that made it so special.

Dredd and a new rookie police trainee are locked inside a large 200 story apartment building which is basically a small city by a highly organized gang run by a woman named Ma-Ma. With no way out the two ascend to the top floor to take down the gang leader and bring her to justice. Yea, its kind of similar to THE RAID. And like THE RAID, DREDD keeps the story and character back grounds simple. That is very important. DREDD spends little time explaining who Dredd is. He is a cop that judges bad guys and that is all you need to know. We don't have that scene where he is in his crummy apartment waking up from an all night bender getting a call from his partner to get up after being asleep all day. We don't see him stumble about his broken down kitchen grabbing any left over food he can find including left over pizza that fell on the floor and then putting it in a blender and drinking it like a real man. We don't see pictures of his dead/divorced wife and his son/daughter who is dead/not-talking-to-him-anymore. We get none of that stereotype stuff here. Dredd is left as a mystery. Only by the actions he takes throughout the film do we know what kind of person he really is.  Click to continue reading more......
