Small Town Monsters: "THE MARK OF THE BELL WITCH" BLU-RAY/DVD

Small Town Monsters has announced the Digital HD, Blu-ray and DVD release of their latest investigative docudrama, The Mark of the Bell Witch. Noted urban legend documentarian Seth Breedlove (The Mothman Legacy) describes the film as a dramatized retelling of the entire sordid tale of the merciless spirit who tormented the Bell family from 1817 to 1821 in Adams, Tennessee. The Mark of the Bell Witch arrives just ahead of the 200th anniversary of John Bell’s death, whose mysterious passing in December 1820 cemented the legend of the Bell Witch in American folklore. The Mark of the Bell Witch will be available to rent or own on Amazon Instant Video, Vimeo OnDemand, DVD and VIDI Space starting December 15th. Blu-ray and DVD copies will be available exclusively from the STM Shop.

The Mark of the Bell Witch is the first attempted documentary of the famed piece of Appalachian folklore. The story of the Bell family who encountered mysterious sounds in their home, eventually becoming a full-blown apparition who terrorized them for almost five years, is still taught in Tennessee schools today. Considered to be one of the only known cases of murder committed by a “ghost” in American history, the story of John Bell’s poisoning at the hands of the witch has been the subject of numerous television shows, books, songs, and even a horror film.

 

However, previous filmed interpretations of the events left out large portions of the legend, or simply adapted the events to their needs. In the hands of Small Town Monsters, there will be a historically minded approach to the telling of the case, as well as a dive into how the haunting has affected the local culture of Adams, Tennessee.

The Mark of the Bell Witch is directed by Seth Breedlove and produced by Adrienne Breedlove. Narration is covered by genre actress Lauren Ashley Carter (Darlin’, Pod), with Zac Palmisano in the role of director of photography. Santino Vitale and SRV Films supplied VFX and Brandon Dalo (The Mothman Legacy) provided an original score. Amy Davies and Thomas Koosed headline the film in the lead roles of Elizabeth Bell and John Bell Sr, accompanied by Aaron Gascon, Sue Matzke, Grayden Nance and Mark Matzke. Adrienne Breedlove appears as the Bell Witch.

The Mark of the Bell Witch tells the terrifying, true story of the Bell family of Adams, Tennessee. A family who, for nearly five years, were haunted by an apparition bent on destroying their lives, and murdering the patriarch of the family, John Bell. Beginning in 1817 as a disembodied voice before eventually manifesting into numerous entities and showing her power through horrifying encounters, the Bell Witch has since become a folk legend.

Caldera Records is proud to present Ennio Morricone’s music for Roberto Faenza’s film “Sostiene Pereira”.

When Antonio Tabucchi’s novel “Sostiene Pereira – Pereira Maintains” in the English language – was published in 1994, it became an immediate literary sensation. The novel’s leading character is the titular Pereira, a newspaper editor who is responsible for compiling the paper’s cultural pages. However, Pereira is not interested in publishing his political views. If all of Portugal was out on the streets demonstrating against the government, Pereira would quietly sit at home and read a good book. He is not a supporter but an enabler. His political reluctance is challenged when he meets a young man named Rossi. Pereira’s life soon changes radically.

Screenwriter and director Roberto Faenza was a perfect choice to turn the novel into a feature film. The Italian film maker had for decades depicted revolts against tyrannical governments. Here, he cast Marcello Mastroianni as the overweight editor who suffers from a heart problem. Popular French actor Daniel Auteil played Pereira’s doctor, Nicoletta Braschi (“Life is Beautiful”) and Marthe Keller (“Marathon Man”) were splendidly cast in minor roles.

The director had tasked Ennio Morricone with writing music for his feature debut “Escalation” in 1967, and they had worked together ever since. By 1995, their collaboration spanned seven films, eight including “Sostiene Pereira.” The latter is one of Morricone’s most ingenious works for a Faenza film. It is intricate and subversive, subtle and stimulating. For the first time, the composer worked with Portugese singer Dulce Pontes when they recorded the song “A brisa do coração” which makes its appearance several times in the film and is presented here both in its original form and in a shorter, edited version. His score subtly features Fado, a Portugese style of music in which a woman as the singer is accompanied by one or two guitars. Morricone’s score consists of several themes and motifs the composer cleverly weaves together. “Sostiene Pereira” starts with a rhythmic pattern for wood blocks, one that recurs throughout the score and serves as its backbone before several instrumental groups consecutively join in with various motifs. The score is intricately developed in that Morricone uses all these various separate elements in other cues but in different arrangements and constellations.

Ennio Morricone’s rich and vibrant score was released on CD in 1995. In collaboration with Sony Music Germany, we are proud to re-release it with detailed liner notes by Stephan Eicke, featuring Christopher Slaski’s precise transcription of the film’s main theme for study purposes. Gorgeous! There is really nothing I can say that you shouldn't know when we are talking about the maestro "Ennio Morricone" and the many years of talent he brought us in his lifetime. Caldera Records got the great opportunity to re-release a classic that is a hard one get your hands on and being we lost Morricone this year. Milan Records: "MONSTER HUNTER" music by Paul Haslinger

Milan Records today releases MONSTER HUNTER (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) with music by Paul Haslinger.  Available everywhere now, the album features music from the forthcoming film directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and based on Capcom's global bestselling video game "Monster Hunter: World."  The film -- from Screen Gems, Constantin Film, Tencent Pictures and Toho -- begins its global theatrical rollout in China on December 4 and will make its North American debut on December 25.  Bringing this vision to life, the 15-track soundtrack highlights his eloquent integration of traditional score and electronic flourishes, evoking multiple dimensions in the process.  Marking his fourth collaboration with director Paul W.S. Anderson, Haslinger’s score to Monster Hunter continues to push the envelope musically.

Of the soundtrack, Haslinger says, “I believe it was during the final mix for Resident Evil: The Final Chapter that I first heard about Monster Hunter, which Paul planned to shoot next. I began receiving daily stills from the film sets in South Africa and Namibia, and the striking white sand deserts became an early point of inspiration. In fantasy, you can invent a new environment, and you can suspend rules if you like to. In 1996, I released an album called World Without Rules, which played very much to this theme (of re-composing musical worlds).  Monster Hunter, then, became a new chance to try and do this once again: to re-invent some aspects of the musical world, and put them in the service of a fantasy-action-adventure film. It was Paul’s request that electronic elements feature prominently in the score, and I'd like to thank him for always steering the ship in the right direction (pun fully intended)! I've tried to create a journey within the journey - to select and sequence a number of pieces that, to me, best convey the feel and character of this particular adventure. In doing so, I was also remembering the video game this film was based on, finding the parts of the score that to me conjured both.”

ABOUT PAUL HASLINGER... After studying music at the Academy in Vienna, Paul took the call to join Kosmische Musik legends Tangerine Dream, where he collaborated with them on highly regarded soundtracks for Miracle Mile, Near Dark, Shy People, Legend and the 1991 Grammy-nominated Canyon Dreams.

Paul Haslinger has history: he grew up in a musical family in Linz, Austria, where he abandoned piano lessons early and learned the secrets of composition while scrutinizing the alchemy of songwriting. He went on to study music at the Academy in Vienna, where he picked up work as a session player.

Relocating to LA, Paul flourished in the emerging US electronic scene. He collaborated with Jon Hassell, France's renowned electronic experimentalists Lightwave, and dark ambient pioneer Lustmord before working on numerous renowned scores and soundtracks with composer Graeme Revell. Paul soon broke out on his own into an eclectic decade where he worked on video games with Ben Frost and scored the entire four seasons of the acclaimed AMC Show Halt & Catch Fire. Amid the soundtrack awakenings, Paul started working on his own solo material where his classical upbringing and love of experimentation met head-on. Haslinger's appetite to experiment and desire to continue his musical journey knows no bounds. He's started a new project with British-Nigerian singer Ade Omotayo, he's set for further AI collaborations and experiments, while the soundtrack work keeps on coming with Interrogation (CBS), The Irregulars (Netflix) and Monster Hunter (Sony) imminent.

Walt Disney Records: "GODMOTHERED" music by Rachel Portman

Walt Disney Records releases the digital soundtrack from the movie "Godmothered," streaming exclusively on Disney+. The digital album features score by Oscar® and Emmy® winning composer Rachel Portman ("A Dog's Purpose," "Cider House Rules"), plus the end credit songs "Rise Up (Joy to the World)" and "Hero" performed by Jillian Shea Spaeder.

The score was produced by Portman and was recorded with the Chamber Orchestra of London at AIR Lyndhurst and Abbey Road Studios. The soundtrack is available today at streaming services.

Set at Christmas time, "Godmothered" is a comedy about Eleanor, a young, inexperienced fairy godmother-in-training (Jillian Bell), who upon hearing that her chosen profession is facing extinction, decides to show the world that people still need fairy godmothers. Finding a mislaid letter from a 10-year-old girl in distress, Eleanor tracks her down and discovers that the girl, Mackenzie, is now a 40-year-old single mom (Isla Fisher) working at a news station in Boston. Having lost her husband several years earlier, Mackenzie has all but given up on the idea of "happily ever after," but Eleanor is bound and determined to give Mackenzie a happiness makeover, whether she likes it or not.

Back Lot Music: "NEWS OF THE WORLD" original score composed by James Newton Howard

Back Lot Music is set to release the original motion picture soundtrack to Universal Pictures’ NEWS OF THE WORLD in multiple configurations, with pre-order available this Friday, December 4. The soundtrack to the film features an original score composed by eight-time Academy Award® nominee James Newton Howard. The soundtrack will release to all digital & streaming platforms on December 11, followed by a CD release on December 18. Back Lot has also partnered with premier vinyl label Mondo on a special limited-edition vinyl configuration, which will go on sale January 13, 2021. Silva Screen Records: "AUDREY" music by Alex Somers

From the multi award-winning producers of McQueen and Churchill comes the documentary film Audrey, an intimate look at Audrey Hepburn’s life. With access to never-before-seen footage from her family’s personal collection, the film provides a deeply insightful exploration of Audrey, her life, her dreams and her legacy.

“The film provides intimate interviews with those who knew her best, woven around rare archival footage,” director Helena Coan says. “However, we have taken it one step further and worked with multi-award-winning British choreographer, Wayne McGregor CBE, to create dance sequences inspired by Audrey’s love of ballet, building a beguiling and emotionally affecting portrait of Audrey. Dance magnifies Audrey’s emotional landscape and brings a heightened sense of drama and theatre to the film, as well as a rich visual language which has not yet been used in documentary.”

Alex Somers was a perfect choice of composer for Audrey. He created a poignant sound world and immersed within it the visual portrait of a conflicted and complex human being. Audrey’s strengths and vulnerabilities together with her insecurities, challenges and love of life and humanity, make her a presence still felt worldwide today.

“Audrey Hepburn was such a special person” says Alex Somers. “It was my goal to tap into what made her such a one-of-a-kind soul and create a melodic and sonic accompaniment for her. Collaborating with Helena was a beautiful and rewarding experience. The music poured out and together we experimented and pushed deeper to tell Audrey’s story; there is music here that is dark and there is music here that is light and uplifting, but the common thread is that it is honest and true to the spark that was Audrey.”

Alex Somers is an American composer and producer who currently resides in Los Angeles, having spent most of the last decade living in Reykjavík, Iceland, where he studied visual art at the Iceland Academy of the Arts. Alex was born in Baltimore and studied composition at Berklee College of Music in Boston.

His work was first noticed in 2009 with Riceboy Sleeps, his ambient album collaboration with partner Jónsi (Sigur Rós). Following Riceboy Sleeps, Alex co-produced Jónsi’s 2010 debut solo album Go. He then opened his own recording studio in Reykjavík where he co-produced and mixed Sigur Rós’ 2013 album Valtari, and ontinued to collaborate with artists Jónsi, Julianna Barwick, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Gyða Valtýsdóttir, Damien Rice, Amiina, Sin Fang, Briana Marela.

Alex began scoring for film and TV in 2011 when, together with Jónsi, he composed music and produced songs for We Bought A Zoo, How To Train Your Dragon Trilogy, Aloha, season one of WGN’s Manhattan, and The Circle.

He has since gone on to score Matt Ross’s Captain Fantastic (2016), Shia LaBeouf's Honey Boy (2019), Taylor Swift's Netflix original documentary Miss Americana (2020) and, most recently, the Apple original animated film titled Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth.

Ninja Tune: "Invisible Cities" music A Winged Victory for the Sullen

A Winged Victory for the Sullen, the composer collaboration between Stars of the Lid founder Adam Wiltzie and L.A. composer Dustin O'Halloran, are set to release new album ‘Invisible Cities’ on February 26th 2021, the stunning score to the critically acclaimed theater production directed by London Olympics ceremony video designer Leo Warner. Released on their own Artificial Pinearch Manufacturing label, the album comes as part of an agreement with A Winged Victory for the Sullen’s current label, Ninja Tune.

Premiering at Manchester International Festival in July 2019, Wiltzie and O'Halloran were commissioned by Manchester International Festival, Rambert, Brisbane Festival, Hong Kong New Vision Arts Festival, Sadler’s Wells, SMG Live, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmed Cultural Centre (JACC) and Karl Sydowto to compose the music for the 90-minute multimedia stage show loosely inspired by Italo Calvino’s 1972 novel ‘Invisible Cities’. Centered on the tense relationship between Kublai Khan, the volatile head of a vast empire, and explorer Marco Polo, it brings to life a series of fantastical places and disparate worlds through the medium of theatre, music, dance, design and visuals.

Described by The Sunday Times as “a beautiful frenzy of movement”, ‘Invisible Cities’ was originally conceived as a touring project with its last performance in Brisbane, Australia before COVID-19 changed the world as we know it.

“Four months is not a lot of time to create 90 minutes of music for a production using classical theatre, dance, & high res video mapping on a stage the size of 2 football pitches. It was a pleasure to work with 59 Productions, unlike other producers, they left the micro-managing at home, and let us get on with it. Early on in discussions with director Leo Warner it was realised that the human voice would take a central role in the score as it was essentially the only instrument we could see evolving over 600 years with a storyline that would not have the listener screaming “its Zimmertime”…,” says Wiltzie.

Transformed into 45 minutes of breathtaking beauty, ‘Invisible Cities’ opens with the numinous ‘So That the City Can Begin to Exist’, as Wiltzie and O'Halloran draw breath from distinctively enthralling and vastly expansive worlds. The ominous soundscapes of ‘The Dead Outnumber the Living’ contrast with the new beginnings that are presented in ‘Every Solstice & Equinox’, while the jagged and uneasy ‘Thirteenth Century Travelogue’ is one of tension and dread.

Elsewhere, ‘The Divided City’ captivates and intrigues while ‘Only Strings and Their Supports Remain’ and ‘There Is One of Which You Never Speak’ are bold roars for survival before the choral ambience of ‘Desires Are Already Memories’ and piercing drones of ‘Total Perspective Vortex’ bring down the curtain on a spectacular and incredibly emotive body of work.

Releasing their self-titled debut album in 2011 (Erased Tapes), A Winged Victory for the Sullen has developed something of a cult status over the past decade and alongside artists such as Max Richter, Hauschka, Hildur Guðnadóttir and Tim Hecker, are the vanguard of the neoclassical and ambient world and can count the likes of Jon Hopkins as fans.

The duo has gone on to release two further studio albums; ‘Atomos’ (Erased Tapes, 2014) and most recently ‘The Undivided Five’ (Ninja Tune, 2019) and were asked to perform at the BBC proms in 2015 by 6 Music presenter Mary Anne Hobbs. A Winged Victory for the Sullen also scored the music for the independent film ‘Iris’ (2016), directed by Jalil Lespert.

Wiltzie is best known as founding member of drone legends Stars of the Lid, The Dead Texan and Aix Em Klemm and has scored multiple film projects including ‘American Woman’ (2019) starring Sienna Miller, ‘Salero’ (2016) and The Yellow Birds (2017). In 2018, he also scored ‘Whitney’ (2018), the estate-approved documentary about the life of the late Whitney Houston, directed by Kevin Macdonald. Elsewhere, his original music has featured in Hollywood films including ‘Transformers: Dark of The Moon’ (2011), ‘Godzilla’ (2014), ‘Like Crazy’ (2011) and acclaimed TV shows including ‘House M.D’, ‘Nip/Tuck’ and ‘Top Boy’. He also collaborated with the late Jóhann Jóhannsson on his scores for ‘The Theory of Everything’ (2014) and ‘Arrival’ (2016).

O'Halloran, a self-taught pianist from the age of 7, began his musical life as a guitarist and formed the much-loved indie rock outfit Dévics with Sara Lov, releasing four albums on Bella Union. As a solo artist, he has composed music for numerous film and television projects including Sofia Coppola’s ‘Marie Antoinette’ (2006) and Drake Doremus’ ‘Like Crazy' (2011) starring Felicity Jones. Demand for his film scores is high and in 2015, he won an Emmy for theme music for the Golden Globe-winning Amazon series ‘Transparent’, starring Jeffrey Tambor. He has also collaborated with film composer Hauschka on numerous films, including ‘Lion’ (2016), with the score nominated for an Oscar, BAFTA and Golden Globe. Most recently, he co-composed the music for the film ‘Ammonite’ (2020) with Volker Bertelmann, directed by Francis Lee and starring Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan.

In 2021, A Winged Victory for the Sullen hope to tour ‘Invisible Cities’ around the world with plans for performances in Hong Kong, Kuwait and London.

Following the success of Night Watch Timur Bekmambetov’s Day Watch (2006) continued the story of two mystical cabals stuck in an eternal fight, adapting the remaining portions of Sergei Lukyanenko’s initial novel for the big screen. The setup is the same, but the stakes are higher as the two orders must come face to face in a decisive showdown with one unfortunate protagonist stuck between the two immortal powers. Almost doubling the box-office success of its predecessor, Day Watch played a key role in launching Bekmambetov’s international career (Wanted, Ben-Hur).

Caldera Records: "VERA DRAKE" and "ALL OR NOTHING" music by Andrew Dickson

Caldera Records is proud to present Andrew Dickson’s music for Mike Leigh’s films “Vera Drake” and “All or Nothing”.

“All or Nothing” tells the story of a family whose members spend their days working at essential and yet low-paid jobs. Penny, played by Lesley Manville, is the main breadwinner as a cashier in a supermarket. Her partner Phil, played by Timothy Spall, drives a cab around town after years of unemployment due to his crippling depression. Living in a council flat with their two children Rachel (Alison Garland) and Rory (a young James Corden), Penny and Phil have resigned themselves to their life on the treadmill. With his music, written for  violin, viola, double bass, flute, bass flute and two guitars, Dickson chose to enhance the somewhat desolate nature of some of the characters.

Although “All or Nothing” was well-received critically, it is Mike Leigh’s most underappreciated film as it stands in the shadow of the director’s next work, “Vera Drake”. Vera Drake (Imelda Staunton) is a cleaner in post-war Britain, while her husband Stan (Phil Davis) works in a garage. Although they don’t have much money, they are optimistic. Having survived – and won – the Second World War, things were looking up for the United Kingdom. The worst seemed to be behind it. However, Vera keeps a secret from their family that eventually threatens to destroy their bond. At the Venice Film Festival, “Vera Drake” won the prize for Best Film before it was nominated for eleven BAFTAs, one Golden Globe and three Oscars.

While it is hailed as one of Leigh’s major works, it is also the crowning opus of Andrew Dickson’s film career. By then, he and the director had already worked together for more than 20 years. For the first time in their films, Dickson and Leigh decided to use a choir. For the folk-like main theme of the film, Dickson used the germ of a sinister song about a fairground he had written previously and which had been performed by a 15-year old P.J. Harvey, a Mercury Prize-winning singer with whom Dickson performed in his local band in Bridport.

Also included on this CD are selection from Andrew Dickson’s scores for “Someone Else’s America’ and “Oublie-Moi”. The 39th CD-release of Caldera Records – a world premiere – features a detailed booklet-text by Stephan Eicke and elegant artwork by Luis Miguel Rojas. Milan Records today announces the December 4 release of EVANGELION FINALLY, a collection of vocal songs performed by Yoko Takahashi and Megumi Hayashibara as heard in the hit anime series NEON GENESIS EVANGELION and EVANGELION 2.0 YOU CAN (NOT) ADVANCE.  The CD and digital release arrives on the 25th anniversary of the debut of the series, which has since become a global cultural phenomenon with fans across the world gearing up for the Shin Evangelion film release in 2021.  The CD and digital release will be followed by a vinyl release in February 2021, celebrating both the Shin Evangelion film release and Anime Month.  The double LP set will arrive in various vinyl color variants exclusive to Milan Records, Mondo, Light In The Attic, Right Stuf and Newbury Comic.
