Today is the First Loves Blogfest! Your first movie, first music (song/band,) first book, and first person. Four loves, one blogfest!
Brought to you to one of my great friends "Alex J. Cavanaugh" who always seems to bring the best out of everyone. So we are to tell you our first couple of things that we love and I will do that right here, right now.
-Jeremy [Retro-Zombie]
MOVIE: My first love for a movie that I can remember that I was very young and that is Disney's "Pete's Dragon" [1977] and I felt a genuine compassion for Elliot the dragon. To me he was not animated he was like an invisible friend we all had, here it just less invisible to the town of Passamaquoddy.

MUSIC: With the amount of scores/soundtracks/music I have it was a very difficult choice to pick one, so I am going with that is score music that changed my ears forever. Now I was going to say "Pete's Dragon" again, cause right after the movie my parents bought me the Album [LP]. This had heavy rotation in my kid years, but there is one score/soundtrack that is that one that made me the music fan I am today... "Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi" [1983]. John Williams is... well he is just that, one of the composers that will be forever remembered.
BOOK: I remember reading only a few books and Disney was one thing I related to so I read many of their releases, but it was always "Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo" and "Herbie Goes to Bananas" I went back to time and time again. Boy I was a wholesome kid, I wonder what happened... it must of been that first love... when I became the rebel.
LOVE: Now I am not sure if this counts because I have loved so many women in my life that I don't want to hurt any of my ladies [say that in a deep voice]. I am going to go with the first crush I had and I go back to the kid again, I think it's safe. Okay the girl I remember was unfortunately gone before I knew... sadness here. I was crushing on Darla Jean Hood from the "Our Gang" or "Little Rascals", I know weird huh. I was like four years old and my dad let us watch the skits and how was I to know.
John Williams is indeed a composer to be remembered.
ReplyDeletePete's Dragon is such a great movie. Great now I have that dang song stuck in my head. Ahhhhh!
ReplyDeleteAwww, so cute. I loved the Herbie books too. I loved the StarWars movie better then the soundtrack though.
ReplyDeleteI remember Pete's Dragon. Awesome film. Great first love too. Darla was adorable. She had spunk too!

ReplyDeleteOh I so love all the things you mentioned, except your first crush. That was too cute! Thanks for commenting and visiting my blog! I really like yours...
ReplyDeleteYour first crush was definitely cute. And I agree with you and everyone else on John Williams.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun blast from the past! I loved the music from Pete's dragon, more than the story. And Darla was precious. Sure, she could always do better than Alfalfa, but he loved her so. Great pick. [Yet another shining star taken way too young.]

I loved Pete's Dragon, too!! That magician/potion guy was hilarious!
ReplyDeleteJohn Williams is fantastic. That's cool you listened to the album. My parents bought me Peter and the Wolf and I listened to that, fascinated that each animal was a different instrument.

ReplyDeleteI think my brother had that Herbie book. I didn't read it, but I remember the bull on the cover.

ReplyDeleteI don't think I'm familiar with Pete's Dragon but Return of the Jedi is a classic! -- I never watch it tho, lol.
ReplyDeleteThose Herbie books sound cute and I'd be surprised to find anyone who doesn't have a favorite character from The Little Rascals.

ReplyDeletePete's Dragon...wow. That was a favorite of mine too, even though it wasn't really popular when I was a kid (all my friends preferred the animated Disney movies). I wish my VCR worked because I have the VHS and now I want to watch it! ;-)
ReplyDeleteevery time I think of Pete's Dragon, I start singing - We got a bill of sale right here - and picture Elliot knocking them into the water

John Williams. Legend.
Great picks.

Enjoyed reading your first loves. Love Herbie Goes Bananas.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you mentioned Darla. I had thought about her myself. When I was about 4 or 5 she was absolutely dreamy to me.
