The Wolfman [2010]

The Wolfman [2010]
February 12, 2010

Cast: Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt, Hugo Weaving, Art Malik

Inspired by the classic Universal film that launched a legacy of horror, The Wolfman brings the myth of a cursed man back to its iconic origins. Oscar® winner Benicio Del Toro stars as Lawrence Talbot, a haunted nobleman lured back to his family estate after his brother vanishes. Reunited with his estranged father (Oscar® winner Anthony Hopkins), Talbot sets out to find his brother...and discovers a horrifying destiny for himself.

Lawrence Talbot's childhood ended the night his mother died. After he left the sleepy Victorian hamlet of Blackmoor, he spent decades recovering and trying to forget. But when his brother's fiancée, Gwen Conliffe (Emily Blunt), tracks him down to help find her missing love, Talbot returns home to join the search. He learns that something with brute strength and insatiable bloodlust has been killing the villagers, and that a suspicious Scotland Yard inspector named Aberline (Hugo Weaving) has come to investigate.

As he pieces together the gory puzzle, he hears of an ancient curse that turns the afflicted into werewolves when the moon is full. Now, if he has any chance at ending the slaughter and protecting the woman he has grown to love, Talbot must destroy the vicious creature in the woods surrounding Blackmoor. But as he hunts for the nightmarish beast, a simple man with a tortured past will uncover a primal side to himself...one he never imagined existed.

Joe Johnston (Jurassic Park III) directs The Wolfman, and six-time Oscar®-winning special effects artist Rick Baker brings his design and makeup talents to transform Del Toro into the fearsome title character. http://www.thewolfmanmovie.com

I cannot wait to see this film - as much to hear Danny Elfman's score as anything else. Elfman was removed from the project and then reinstated and now Varese Sarabande is releasing the Elfman score. It is supposed to be a Gothic score and I am hoping as strong a composition as his masterpiece for SLEEP HOLLOW.

elfman is a great composer icon that demands respect, i heard about the choice to cut him loose... and thanks to your update [thank you] he is going to be back. i just pre-ordered the alice in wonderland on amazon, looking forward to that.

thanks for stopping by and saying hello!

I am really jazzed about ALICE IN WONDERLAND also. I love collaborations between Tim Burton and Danny Elfman, though when it comes to Elfman's work I have grown to prefer Gothic, dark works over whimsical and fun - regardless he seldom disappoints me.

Anyway, there has been so much reported on difficulties with the production of THE WOLFMAN - I am eager to see it and hope it defies predictions and is stunning.

true a few of his more serious scores, though being good does not hold as to as you mentioned "sleepy hollow"... i prefer the spooky from him or any composer. i tend to buy more from the weird side of score music... like the change up from his normal score style, but hans zimmer's "sherlock holmes" was enjoyable... many do not agree...

I have been curious about SHERLOCK HOLMES - I will have to check it out.

listen to samples, i did enjoy it... but i liked the score to avatar too... where most fell it was a repeat of james horner's early works...
