Hollywood Records: "WELCOME TO EARTH" music by Daniel Pemberton

Disney+ original series from National Geographic, Hollywood Records announced that the Original Series Soundtrack with music by Academy Award®-nominated and Emmy Award®-winning composer Daniel Pemberton (The Trial of The Chicago 7, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) will release Friday, December 10. Known for his innovative and exciting scores, Pemberton recently won a Critics Choice Award® for Best Original Score for The Rescue and was named Film Composer of the Year in 2021 by both the World Soundtrack Awards and the international film music critics association IFMCA. Pemberton, who has composed music for some of today’s top film luminaries including Ridley Scott, Aaron Sorkin, and Danny Boyle, reteamed with Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Darren Aronofsky for Welcome to Earth, and had this to say about the project:

Daniel Pemberton is an Academy Award-nominated and Emmy winning composer who was named Film Composer of the Year in 2021 by both the World Soundtrack Awards and the international film music critics association IFMCA. Hollywood Records: "WEST SIDE STORY" for a new generation.

Hollywood Records is pleased to announce the release dates for the soundtrack from the highly-anticipated film “West Side Story,” directed by Academy Award® winner Steven Spielberg, from a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award® winner Tony Kushner. “West Side Story” tells the classic tale of fierce rivalries and young love in 1957 New York City. From 20th Century Studios, The Walt Disney Company will release “West Side Story” in U.S. theaters on December 10, 2021.
 
“West Side Story” has been adapted for the screen from the original 1957 Broadway show. Original choreography by Jerome Robbins, based on the stage play, book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, play conceived, directed and choreographed by Jerome Robbins, lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, music by Leonard Bernstein.
 
Spielberg said, “I dedicated this movie to my father, but it was my mother's love of music, combined with my insatiable appetite to understand everything about movie making, that led me to start collecting motion picture soundtrack albums when I was young. I loved the ‘West Side Story’ cast album from the first time I listened to it. As a kid I could sing every one of its songs by heart – and I did sing them, until I wore out the patience of my entire family. The score feels like it's always been part of me, and I believe that this is the greatest music ever written for musical theater. The West Side Story Original Motion Picture Soundtrack features 21 songs from the film and will be released in both standard digital and physical (CD and vinyl) configurations, as well as a digital release in Dolby Atmos Music – a new technology placing the listener inside the song in a spatial way, revealing every detail of the music with unparalleled clarity and depth. Both digital versions are set for release on Dec. 3. The CD will be available on Dec. 10 and can be pre-ordered here; the vinyl will be available in early 2022. The music was performed by the New York Philharmonic with additional music performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic. David Newman, a celebrated arranger and conductor who has worked on more than 100 movies, handles both arrangements, as well as some conducting. Dudamel said, “‘West Side Story,’ for me, as for all of us in the music world, is part of my DNA. Every single melody in it is so natural and easy for anyone to process. DisneyPlus/Hollywood Records: "THE RESCUE" music by Daniel Pemberton and Original Song by Aloe Blacc

Disney+ announced today that “The Rescue,” the latest feature documentary from Academy Award®-winning directors and producers E. Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, and National Geographic Documentary Films, will premiere on the service on Friday, December 3 in English-speaking territories, followed by a worldwide streaming release in most territories later in the month.
 
Hollywood Records also released today the original song “Believe,” from Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Aloe Blacc, co-written with Gary Go and Daniel Pemberton, along with the full Original Motion Picture Soundtrack from Academy Award-nominated composer Daniel Pemberton. Pemberton recently won the 2021 Critic’s Choice Documentary Award for Best Score for his work on the film.
 
“The Rescue” premiered to rave reviews at the 2021 Telluride Film Festival and went on to win the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival. Other audience awards won on the festival circuit include Camden Film Festival, Mill Valley Film Festival, Bend Film Festival, Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival and several others. The film premiered in theaters on October 8, 2021 and is one of only three documentaries to cross the $1M mark in theatrical ticket sales at the box office this year. “The Rescue” currently has a 100% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes and E. Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin were also named Best Directors at the 2021 Critic’s Choice Documentary Awards.

In the summer of 2018, a short outing after soccer practice became a two-week saga of survival and a story that soon captured the world’s attention. Monsoon rains had trapped twelve boys and their coach in a labyrinthian cave in Northern Thailand, and within days thousands of people had descended on the area to try to help. But were the boys even still alive? Anticipation and anguish hung in the air until they were found, trapped in a pitch-black chamber two kilometers deep into the cave. The next question—immediate, obvious, and confounding—was how to get them out.

Hollywood Records: "ANTLERS" music by Javier Navarrete

Antlers is a 2021 supernatural horror film directed by Scott Cooper. It follows a school teacher and her sheriff brother in a small Oregon town, where they discover one of her students is harboring a supernatural creature. The film stars Keri Russell, Jesse Plemons, Jeremy T. Thomas, Graham Greene, Scott Haze, Rory Cochrane, and Amy Madigan. The screenplay, written by C. Henry Chaisson, Nick Antosca, and Cooper, was adapted from Antosca's short story "The Quiet Boy," originally published in Guernica magazine in January 2019.

The project was announced in July 2018 with Cooper attached to direct, and the cast joining the next month. Filming took place in British Columbia in October and November 2018.

Antlers premiered at Beyond Fest in October 11, 2021, and was theatrically released in the United States on October 29, 2021, by Searchlight Pictures, after being delayed twice from an April 2020 release date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the cinematography, acting and the horror elements, but lamented the screenplay's underdeveloped themes. 

 

Javier Navarrete (born 1956 in Teruel, Spain) is a Spanish film composer, best known for composing the score to Pan's Labyrinth (El Laberinto del Fauno, 2006). Javier built the entire soundtrack around a simple lullaby tune heard in the film. The score also got him an Academy Award nomination. Javier's first known composition was for a short movie 'Mayumea' in 1986. Navarrete also has composed the scores for Whore, Tras el cristal, Dot the i, along with various other Spanish films. His other noticeable scores include 2009's Cracks, 2012's Byzantium and the U.S productions, Mirrors, Wrath Of The Titans and Inkheart. His score for the HBO film Hemingway & Gellhorn won him an Emmy Award.

Hollywood Records: "DOPESICK" music by Lorne Balfe

Lorne Balfe (Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Black Widow, The LEGO Batman Movie, His Dark Materials, Bad Boys for Life) has recently been scoring the new Hulu limited series Dopesick. The show is written by Danny Strong (Recount, Game Change, Empire) and stars Michael Keaton,  Peter Sarsgaard, Michael Stuhlbarg, Kaitlyn Dever, Rosario Dawson, Will Poulter and John Hoogenakker. The 8-part drama is inspired by the New York Times bestselling book Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors, and the Drug Company That Addicted America by Beth Macy and examines how one company triggered the worst drug epidemic in American history. 

 

Strong, Macy and Keaton are also executive producing the 20th Television production with John Goldwyn (Dexter, MacGruber), Warren Littlefield (The Handmaid’s Tale, Fargo), Karen Rosenfelt (The Twilight Saga, Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief), as well as Barry Levinson (Rain Man, Good Morning Vietnam) who also directed the first two episodes. Amanda Krieg Thomas serves as the project’s music supervisor.

Hollywood Records: "The Ron’s Gone Wrong" music by Henry Jackman

The Ron’s Gone Wrong Original Motion Picture Soundtrack album is available today from Hollywood Records.   The soundtrack features two end-title track songs: the feel-good single “Sunshine” by Liam Payne and the upbeat “New Friends” by Glass Animals frontman Dave Baley as well as score by Henry Jackman. “Ron’s Gone Wrong,” from 20th Century Studios and Locksmith Animation, opens in U.S. theaters nationwide on October 22.

Composer Henry Jackman’s role in the film-making process was a very collaborative one. “I absolutely loved working with Henry,” says co-director/co-writer/executive producer Sarah Smith. “He so understood the ideas and the emotions of the movie, and when you talk to him about connections in the story, he instantly sees how to weave in themes and sounds to support that. I mean really instantly—he starts playing you new score on the spot!”

Smith continues, “He came in with great ideas for digital sounds he often uses, to support the B*Bot story, but I asked him for both a classic ‘high school movie’ vibe and the orchestral scale and emotion of ‘E.T.’ on top! Henry loves an unreasonable challenge, and he absolutely smashed it. Most important of all, as I watch scenes at the end of the film carried on a wave of his music, I just feel his heart and soul poured into the emotions of the story. It’s a wonderful score.”

Marvel Music/Hollywood Records: "HIT-MONKEY" music by Daniel Rojas

Marvel Music/Hollywood Records has released the digital soundtrack from the Hulu Original Series “Marvel's Hit-Monkey” today. The album features an original score composed and produced by Daniel Rojas (“Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.,” “Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts,” “Downsizing”). All 10 episodes of “Marvel’s Hit-Monkey” are now streaming on Hulu.
 
Commenting on his score, Rojas said, “The music on Hit-Monkey is really special to me because it allowed me to blend a lot of scoring styles, from subtle electronic undertones to big orchestral action sequences, and infuse them all with a modern production twist - which is what I love to do. There’s a lot of comedy in it but the show feels very cinematic and Marvel-worthy in scope, so that gave me the chance to write pretty big and aggressive music at times. It was also a lot of fun to find ways to complement all the great songs that Kier Lehman and James Cartwright found for the show, which go from old Japanese tunes to grunge and punk-rock."
 
Monkey’s peaceful existence in the Japanese alps is shattered by the tragic loss of his tribe—setting him on a course of revenge and violence in the very world of humans that are responsible for his plight. He’s a killer of killers with a bit of a rage problem. Throughout the series, he must learn to navigate the struggle between his inherently sweet nature and the evil acts he must commit. Debney has scored numerous episodes of “The Orville” for Seth MacFarlane, including conducting each recording session with a nearly 100-piece orchestra. Hollywood Records: "The Eternals" music by Ramin Djawadi

The Eternals Original Score Soundtrack, featuring score composed and produced by Emmy®-winning composer Ramin Djawadi (“Reminiscence,” “Westworld,” “Game of Thrones”), is available today.  Marvel Studios’ “Eternals” opens in U.S. theaters on Nov. 5.
 
In addition to the previously released score cues, “Eternals Theme” and “Across the Oceans of Time,” the film also features the original song “Nach Meri Heri” (Dance My Hero), performed by 19-year-old Australian singer/songwriter Celina Sharma.
 
Djawadi, a two-time Emmy® Award winner and three-time Grammy® nominee, resembles a “musical chameleon.” Versatility has defined his career, including celebrated scores for “Game of Thrones,” “Iron Man,” “Westworld,” “Pacific Rim,” “Jack Ryan,” “A Wrinkle in Time,” “Clash of the Titans,” “Great Wall” and “Prison Break.”

Djawadi has also composed scores for blockbuster video games, including “New World,” “Gears 5,” “Gears of War 4” and “Medal of Honor.” He recently released his original music for “Surreal,” the water feature at Expo 2020 in Dubai.

Hollywood Records: "Y: THE LAST MAN" music by Herdís Stefánsdóttir

Hollywood Records digitally releases the lead single "Requiem" by Herdís Stefánsdóttir from Y: THE LAST MAN Original Soundtrack for purchase and streaming. The single acts as the main titles for the series, and was composed as a "Requiem" for the lost men.
 
Speaking about the single, Icelandic composer Herdís Stefánsdóttir described, "Requiem was the first track I composed for Y: The Last Man. I recorded a cluster of female voices sometimes clashing and sometimes in harmony wanting to create a unanimous scream of despair, the primal scream." She continued, "The Requiem represents the internal feeling, the loss and serves as a remembrance of a fallen world."
 
A drama based on DC Comics’ acclaimed series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, Y: The Last Man traverses a post-apocalyptic world in which a cataclysmic event decimates every mammal with a Y chromosome but for one cisgender man and his pet monkey. The series follows the survivors in this new world as they struggle with their efforts to restore what was lost and the opportunity to build something better.

Herdís Stefánsdóttir is a composer of music for multimedia, a songwriter, and an electronic musician. Her compositional endeavors — installations in museums, dance, theatre, and a successful electronic music duet she is a part of – are establishing her as an expansive artist.
 
Herdís Stefánsdóttir graduated with an M.A. degree in film scoring from New York University in 2017. Since graduation she has scored two feature films, an HBO series and a few short films. Her scoring work includes FX series Y the Last Man, Ry Russo-Young’s MGM/Warner Bros. feature film The Sun Is Also a Star and the HBO series We’re Here. Herdís was nominated for The Icelandic Music Awards for her score in The Sun Is Also A Star.
 
Herdís interned for the Oscar nominated composer Jóhann Jóhannsson in Berlin while he was working on the film Arrival (2016) and she has scored numerous short films that have premiered at top-tier festivals around the world like Berlinale, TIFF, Sundance and Palm Springs International Film Festival. Herdís formed her electro-pop duo East of My Youth in 2015. East of My Youth’s music has been described as sensual and addictive as getting your tongue frozen to a glacier of pure honey (jajaja music). The duo has showcased at SxSW, Eurosonic Noorderslag, KEXP, Sonar Reykjavík and Iceland Airwaves.
 
Born in Reykjavík, Iceland, Herdís currently lives between Los Angeles and Reykjavík, where she works as a composer.

Hollywood Records: “THE LAST DUEL” music by Harry Gregson-Williams

The Last Duel Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is available today from Hollywood Records.  Celebrated composer Harry Gregson-Williams, who has worked with the film's director Ridley Scott numerous times over the past decade (The Martian, Kingdom of Heaven), perfectly captures both the drama and the period of the film.  Recorded in Los Angeles, the original score for "The Last Duel" was performed by a large orchestra and choir, in addition to featuring medieval instruments, including wooden flutes, hammer dulcimers, a consort of viols, a cathedral organ and a lute.  Gregson-Williams also worked with some exceptional and much in demand vocalists: Grace Davidson, who is one of Britain's leading sopranos is featured alongside the outstanding counter-tenor, Iestyn Davies.  Gregson-Williams had worked with Davies on Scott's "Kingdom of Heaven."  "The tone of his voice is so beautiful and is used in a very haunting way within the score," says Gregson-Williams about Davies. Accompanying these soloists was a vocal ensemble out of London called Voces8.  "There are just eight of them, and they are very, very precise (out of necessity) and the sound they make has a purity and accuracy that is as unique as it is wonderful," Gregson-Williams says.

The film's main thematic feel was inspired by the track "Celui Que Je Désire" which Gregson-Williams wrote while the film was in production in Ireland and France and features Grace Davidson, which plays over the final scene of the film following the aftermath of the duel.  Notes Gregson-Williams, "I sent the song to Ridley and he reacted really well to it, so we decided to use the song's melody as a source of thematic material that could be used throughout the score."

"Ridley is full of ideas and questions when it comes to music. He gives me a clear direction for an overall feel and tone to the score that he's looking for.  He is an artist first and foremost, and I know that he paints rather well.  He might talk to me using expressions and language that apply to painting but they have a similar connotation with music," added Gregson-Williams.

Hollywood Records: "ORDINARY JOE" [EP]

Hollywood Records releases the soundtrack EP to the 20th Television/NBC new original series Ordinary Joe. Spanning the first three episodes, the EP includes a select mix of original songs: the uplifting “Soldier On,” and tender ballad “Landing,” and two covers: James Taylor’s timeless “Fire and Rain” and Bright Eyes’ emotionally powerful “First Day of My Life.”  All songs are beautifully performed by the show’s star Jimmy Wolk, who plays the title character Joe Kimbreau. A new song from each week’s episode will be released every Friday.

Ordinary Joe airs on Mondays at 10pm PT/ET, immediately following The Voice. Streaming on Peacock the next day.

Hollywood Records: "THE EYES OF TAMMY FAYE" score by Theodore Shapiro and Various songs by Cast and More!

The Eyes of Tammy Faye Original Motion Picture Soundtrack and Original Score album are available today from Hollywood Records.   The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack features songs performed in the Searchlight Pictures film which were produced by six-time Grammy®-winning music producer Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile).  Songs were recorded at the Historic RCA Studio A in Nashville, TN. 

  

Emmy®-nominated composer, Theodore Shapiro (Bombshell, Destroyer) composed and produced the Original Score album, which was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London.

Directed by Michael Showalter and written by Abe Sylvia, The Eyes of Tammy Faye is produced by Jessica Chastain, p.g.a., Kelly Carmichael, p.g.a., Rachel Shane, p.g.a., and Gigi Pritzker.  The film stars Chastain, Andrew Garfield, Cherry Jones, and Vincent D’Onofrio.

Chastain, whose previous musical experience was limited to college, performs songs in the film. Drawing inspiration from Tammy Faye, she dove right into an area outside of her comfort zone. “She was never embarrassed,” the actress added. “People were drawn to her because she was unique. She used her platform to advocate for a celebration of our differences, and knowing that made it easier for me to perform.”

The Eyes of Tammy Faye is an intimate look at the extraordinary rise, fall and redemption of televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker. In the 1970s and 80s, Tammy Faye and her husband, Jim Bakker, rose from humble beginnings to create the world’s largest religious broadcasting network and theme park, and were revered for their message of love, acceptance and prosperity. Tammy Faye was legendary for her indelible eyelashes, her idiosyncratic singing, and her eagerness to embrace people from all walks of life. However, it wasn’t long before financial improprieties, scheming rivals, and scandal toppled their carefully constructed empire.

NEW STORY TRAILER RELEASED FOR MARVEL’S GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, ALONGSIDE SINGLE FROM STAR-LORD BAND

Eidos-Montréal has released a new trailer detailing the out-of-this-world narrative adventure that awaits in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Set in the wake of an epic conflict known as the Galactic War, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy invites players to walk a lightyear in Peter Quill’s jet boots and lead his band of misfit heroes-for-hire across the cosmos in search of glory, riches, and a way out of whatever mess they’ve gotten themselves into this time.

In the new trailer, Grand Unifier Raker brings Star-Lord, Drax, Gamora, Rocket and Groot to the Universal Church of Truth, where the Guardians bear witness to a cult-like ritual before the mysterious Matriarch. Grand Unifier Raker states that the Matriarch wishes to share with them a truth — one that can supposedly end all grief and suffering. In true Guardians’ fashion, things go spectacularly sideways, and they somehow manage to get half the galaxy on their back... The Guardians will have to step up and show what they are made of to save the Galaxy.

The video also features appearances by characters including the Xandarian Worldmind, as well as everyone’s favorite telepathic Russian space dog, Cosmo.

Moreover, the trailer’s action is amplified by the sounds of a new track from the Star-Lord Band, titled “Space Riders (With No Names)” In the Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy universe, Star-Lord is the name of Peter Quill’s favorite rock band, which eventually inspires his iconic moniker. The “Space Riders (With No Names)” single is available now in digital music stores, as well as part of a Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Spotify playlist featuring ten licensed songs from the game.
