Sony Classical: "NATIONAL CHAMPIONS" music by Jonathan Sanford

NATIONAL CHAMPIONS (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) by composer Jonathan Sanford. Available now for purchase and streaming, the soundtrack album features music from STXfilm’s new sports drama – now playing only in theaters, directed by Ric Roman Waugh (Greenland, Angel Has Fallen).

In speaking about the message behind the music, composer Jonathan Sanford stated, “There are so many people around the world without a voice, at least not a voice big enough to have a real say in any given matter. We set out to amplify those voices, the voices of the unheard… and made it into a score.”

Three days before the college football national championship game, star quarterback LeMarcus James (Stephan James) and teammate Emmett Sunday (Alexander Ludwig) ignite a player’s strike declaring they won’t compete until all student-athletes are fairly compensated. With billions of dollars at risk and legacies on the line, the stakes could not be higher. Now, with only hours until kickoff, the head coach (J.K. Simmons) and various power brokers (Lil Rel Howery, Tim Blake Nelson, Andrew Bachelor, Jeffrey Donovan, David Koechner, Kristin Chenoweth, Timothy Olyphant, Uzo Aduba) must race against the clock to protect or destroy the prevailing collegiate athletics system.

Jonathan Sanford is a Los Angeles-based composer, music producer, and saxophonist scoring music for films, television, and stage. He is known for bringing unique sounds and unexpected ideas through an analog exploration process.

Sanford recently completed the score for the Universal / Netflix comedy feature Good On Paper, starring Iliza Schlesinger and Margaret Cho and directed by Kimmy Gatewood, Teenage Bounty Hunters, a Netflix series from Tilted Productions (GLOW, Orange Is The New Black, Weeds), the Netflix series Social Distance, and the comedy drama feature Welcome Matt. He is also the composer for USA’s noir television drama Dare Me, based on the novel by Megan Abbott. Upcoming for Jonathan is the drama romance feature On Our Way, the NBC / Amazon TV series As We See It from executive producer Jason Katims, and the drama feature National Champions for STX Entertainment directed by Ric Waugh and starring J.K. Simmons, Stephan James, and Uzo Aduba.

Sanford’s previous work includes That Moment When for PBSNews Hour/Facebook Watch, original songs for YouTube’s Weird City, score for the EKO interactive series Timeline, and Off-Broadway stage play Tomorrow In The Battle (Stripped Scripts). Sanford has also scored documentaries for Syracuse professor Richard Breyer, tracks for Run and Jump directed by Oscar-nominated Steph Green, and short films with premieres at Tribeca and Cannes Film Festivals.

Sanford was born in Baltimore, Maryland, studying piano and violin before deciding on the saxophone at age nine. Jonathan went on to study classical saxophone, under the tutelage of Dr. Frederick Hemke at Northwestern University, where he was also a member of the 1996 Big Ten Championship Football Team. As a saxophonist and vocalist, Jonathan has shared the stage with legendary artists including Max Roach, Eddie Palmieri, Danilo Perez, and Bobby McFerrin.

Sony Classical: "CINDERELLA" (Score from the Amazon Original Movie) music by Mychael Danna and Jessica Weiss

Sony Classical releases the Cinderella (Score from the Amazon Original Movie) by Academy Award-winning composer Mychael Danna and songwriter, producer, and composer on the rise Jessica Rose Weiss. The album features the co-composers’ folk-traditional orchestral hybrid score for director Kay Cannon’s modern spin on the classic tale Cinderella from Sony Pictures Entertainment and Amazon Studios. The film debuts on Amazon Prime Video today, alongside the score soundtrack, which is available now on all major streaming platforms.

Kay Cannon’s Cinderella has been described as a “jukebox musical,” and given Jessica’s songwriting and producing background, Mychael felt this was the ideal project for them to collaborate on. Jessica has worked with her co-composer and longtime mentor Mychael on many projects, contributing additional music to his scores, including The Addams Family and A Dog’s Way Home.  The film features several pop-centric songs, performed by the cast—including Grammy Award-nominated pop sensation Camila Cabello and Tony Award-winning actress Idina Menzel. With the score, Mychael and Jessica’s main goal was to create warm and lush fantasy music to juxtapose the sound of the bright pop songs.

Jessica Rose Weiss says, “It was thrilling to compose music for such a refreshing and progressive take on this timeless tale, and we couldn't have had a more creative and adventurous leader than Kay Cannon. Mychael and I had a fantastic time playing with the eclectic sonic palette and working with Kay to find the musical sweet spot between our orchestral score and the pop songs. Hearing the brilliant Vienna Orchestra perfectly capture the emotion of the score was one of the great joys of my career. I'm so excited for little girls around the world to be empowered by their own bold, new Cinderella.”

From Kay Cannon (Pitch Perfect), Cinderella is a modern musical with a bold take on the story you grew up with. Our ambitious heroine (Camilla Cabello) has big dreams and with the help of her Fab G, she perseveres to make them come true. Cinderella has an all-star cast including Idina Menzel, Minnie Driver, James Corden, Nicholas Galitzine, Billy Porter and Pierce Brosnan.

Mychael Danna is an Academy Award-winning film composer recognized for his evocative blending of non-western traditions with orchestral and electronic music. He composed the trans-culturally inspired 2013 Oscar and Golden Globe-winning score for Ang Lee’s Life of Pi. Danna also composed scores for Ang Lee’s The Ice Storm and Ride with the Devil. Other noted credits include Oscar-winning and Oscar-nominated films such as his longtime collaborator Atom Egoyan’s The Sweet Hereafter and Exotica, Moneyball and Capote with director Bennett Miller, Monsoon Wedding, Little Miss Sunshine, (500) Days of Summer, Being Julia, Deepa Mehta’s Water and Girl, Interrupted. He won an Emmy Award for outstanding music composition for the 2012 mini-series World Without End. Often collaborating with his brother Jeff, they have scored The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus for Terry Gilliam, The Breadwinner (Annie Nomination), Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur, and Onward. Television scores include Alias Grace (Emmy Nomination), Tyrant (3 Emmy Nominations), and Camelot (Emmy Nomination). His most recent score is for Tom McCarthy’s Stillwater, starring Matt Damon.

Jessica Weiss is a composer, songwriter, and producer based in Los Angeles, CA. She first fell in love with classical music studying ballet in New York City throughout her youth, eventually traveling to London to work at Warner Brothers Studios where she focused on composition and music production. It was there that she was recruited by Hans Zimmer to apprentice at Remote Control Productions. After years working her way up the ladder as a music editor, she found a life-changing mentor-ship in film composition working alongside Academy Award-winning composer Mychael Danna.

Her credits include the Netflix #1 hit animated feature film Dog Gone Trouble, the drama Everything I Ever Wanted to Tell My Daughter About Men, featuring a collaboration with pop sensation Sia, and Nicol Paone’s comedy Friendsgiving, produced by Ben Stiller. Upcoming projects include Stephen Herek’s Netflix dramedy Afterlife of the Party, the groundbreaking VR series Into the Now from acclaimed photographer Michael Muller, the Dolly Parton-produced documentary Still Working 9 to 5. In addition to her film work, Jessica’s music has been performed on stages around the world, from The Globe Theater in London to The Joffrey Ballet in Chicago to The Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles. As a producer & songwriter, Jessica has just finished an EP titled “Us Against The World,” in which she collaborated with several artists including K.S. Rhoads, Rachael Yamagata, Chris Pierce & Garrison Starr. She is currently producing singer-songwriter Lily Kershaw’s upcoming record.

Sony Classical: "OPERATION FINALE" Music by Alexandre Desplat

Sony Classical releases OPERATION FINALE (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) with original music by Academy Award® winner Alexandre Desplat (The Shape of Water, The Grand Budapest Hotel). The soundtrack will be available for streaming, download and on CD August 24, 2018.  Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures (MGM) will distribute Operation Finale theatrically on August 29, 2018.

MGM’s razor-sharp thriller, Operation Finale, brings to life one of the most daring covert operations in modern history. Starring Golden Globe® winner Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Ex Machina) and Academy Award® winner Sir Ben Kingsley (Gandhi, Schindler’s List), and the film vividly captures the ingenious and brilliantly executed mission to capture Adolf Eichmann, one of the chief architects of the Holocaust.

Fifteen years after the end of World War II, acting on irrefutable evidence, a top-secret team of Israeli agents travel to Argentina where Eichmann (Kingsley) has been in hiding together with his family under the alias “Ricardo Klement” and execute an extremely dangerous abduction. In attempting to sneak him out of Argentina to stand trial in Israel while being pursued by the country’s right-wing forces, agent Peter Malkin (Isaac) is forced to engage Eichmann in an intense and gripping game of cat-and-mouse with life-and-death stakes.

Operation Finale is directed by Chris Weitz (About a Boy, The Twilight Saga: New Moon) from a screenplay by Matthew Orton. Oscar Isaac is also a producer, along with Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger under their Automatik company and Jason Spire’s Inspire Entertainment.

Alexandre Desplat says about the soundtrack: “Writing a score for the abduction of Adolf Eichmann has been a tremendous challenge. Chris and I tried to bring the audience into the mind of the Mossad squad, struggling to succeed in one of the most famous chases of a Nazi official; a criminal with no regrets or remorse whatsoever, hidden in Argentina. Organizing the train transports of Jews throughout Europe and supervising their systematic killings in villages or forests were some of Eichmann’s tasks. The music I composed tries to modestly capture these elements of tragedy and madness. A group of 10 percussionists leads the London Symphony Orchestra into a Mephistophelian dance.”

Sony Classical: "PUZZLE" Music by Dustin O’Halloran

Sony Classical proudly announces the release of PUZZLE (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) with original music by Oscar® and Golden Globe nominee Dustin O’Halloran. The soundtrack is available now. The movie opens in U.S. theaters today.

Directed by the producer of Little Miss Sunshine, Marc Turtletaub, and starring Golden Globe® nominee Kelly MacDonald (No Country For Old Men, Boardwalk Empire) & Irrfan Kahn (Slumdog Millionaire), PUZZLE tells the story of Agnes, who, taken for granted as a suburban mother, discovers a passion for solving jigsaw puzzles that unexpectedly draws her into a new world, where her life unfolds in ways she could never have imagined. Written by Oren Moverman (The Messenger), the movie also stars David Denman, Austin Abrams, Bubba Weiler, and Liv Hewson. For updates on the movie, please visit here.

“When I saw the first cut of Puzzle I was moved by how such a simple story could be so affecting. I felt a great connection with director Marc Turtletaub and Kelly Macdonald’s incredible performance instantly drew me. It was that from which I drew my inspiration and which helped me find the sound of her internal world as she slowly discovers herself and begins to see the world in a new light.

I wanted the score to have a minimal sound in order to leave space for the performances of the actors, so I decided on a chamber sound consisting of piano, string quartet, harp and woodwinds.

For the last track [Horizons], I wanted to see if one of the themes I had been working on could be turned into a song and create this feeling of our character Agnes being in full bloom towards the end of the film. I sent the track to my dear friend Ane Brun who created the beautiful melodies and words that perfectly captured this feeling. Her voice always takes me to another world, and it was exactly this transformative quality that the ending of the film asked for.”

Sony Classical: "ADRIFT" Music by Hauschka

Sony Classical proudly announces the release of ADRIFT (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) with original music by German composer, songwriter, pianist, experimental musician and Oscar® nominee, Volker Bertelmann aka Hauschka, available now. STXfilms and Lakeshore Entertainment open ADRIFT in U.S. theaters today.

Hauschka says about the soundtrack: "Collaborating with Balthasar Kormákur was a wonderful experience and he gave me a lot of freedom to find the right sound for the film. Adrift tells a story about love and the fragility of human existence, so I wanted to create some sort of instrumental tension to reflect both the darkness and peril, as well as the lightness and love in this film. We ended up recording a full string orchestra at British Grove in London and added piano and experimental electronics to create a diverse and dynamic score. I'm very happy with the result, and I feel fortunate to have been part of this powerful film."

Hauschka is the artistic moniker of German pianist and composer Volker Bertelmann, who is widely acclaimed for his experimentations with the prepared piano. Bertelmann’s debut as Hauschka came in 2004 with the release of his Substantial album. His relentless work ethic has since spawned over a dozen full-length records and almost as many film scores.

A frequent collaborator, Hauschka paired up with renowned American violinist, Hilary Hahn, on an improvised album in 2012, Silfra, which was released by Deutsche Grammophon. In 2016, he collaborated with Dustin O’Halloran on the score for Garth Davis’ Lion, which was nominated for an Oscar®, a Golden Globe® and a BAFTA for Best Original Score.

His recent soundtrack work, in addition to Lion, includes the films In Dubious Battle (2016), Exodus (2016) and TV mini-series Patrick Melrose (2018) starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

Beyond his work as a recording artist, Hauschka is also prominent in the world of theatre and took up an artistic residency at the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra, where he partnered up on an orchestral piece with experimental pop band Múm.

Hauschka recently signed with Sony Classical in a new long-term recording contract. The first fruits of this collaboration will be an album of melodic solo piano works, to be released in early 2019.

Sony Classical: "MOLLY’S GAME" Music by Daniel Pemberton

Sony Classical proudly announces the release of MOLLY’S GAME (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), featuring music by Daniel Pemberton. The soundtrack to Aaron Sorkin’s directorial debut will be available on January 5, 2018. STXfilms and The Mark Gordon Company’s MOLLY’S GAME was released in select theaters in the U.S. on December 25th, and will expand wide on January 5, 2018.

“It was great working with Aaron - I still can’t believe this is his first time as a director - he was so assured, enthusiastic and supportive it felt like he’d been doing it all his life,” said Pemberton.

“When you’re directing a film for the first time—and I would imagine when you’re directing a film for the hundred and first time—you don’t want the top people involved to be soldiers who’ll carry out your instructions. You want them to be artists who are better than your instructions. At an early meeting with Daniel in Toronto, where much of MOLLY’S GAME was shot, I told the extraordinary composer that I wasn’t hearing electronic music in the score. Instead I wanted strings, reeds and brass—an orchestral sound. Daniel nodded, smiled his thousand-watt smile and said, ‘There will be electronic music,’” Sorkin joked. “Daniel became nothing less than a co-author of the film. And I’ll be forever grateful that he followed his instincts instead of my instructions.”

Sony Classical: "ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD" Music by Daniel Pemberton

Sony Classical proudly announces the release of ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), featuring music by multiple Golden Globe nominee Daniel Pemberton. The soundtrack to the new film by Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner and Gladiator) will be available digitally on December 22 and on CD January 12. The film will be released in the U.S. on December 25, 2017.

Daniel Pemberton says about the soundtrack: “Working with the legend that is Ridley Scott is always an absolute delight. He gives you the space to try something different and loves to be surprised - he doesn’t want the obvious approach. There are not many movies where you can write operatic choral pieces, brand new classical work and modern post-rock all in the same world but within this film we could. You’ve got be able to keep up with him though and he moves FAST! - I think I just about managed on this soundtrack, and couldn’t be happier with the result.”

ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD follows the kidnapping of 16-year-old John Paul Getty III (Charlie Plummer) and the desperate attempt by his devoted mother Gail (Michelle Williams) to convince his billionaire grandfather (Christopher Plummer) to pay the ransom.  When Getty Sr. refuses, Gail attempts to sway him as her son’s captors become increasingly volatile and brutal.  With her son’s life in the balance, Gail and Getty’s advisor (Mark Wahlberg) become unlikely allies in the race against time that ultimately reveals the true and lasting value of love over money. The film is inspired by true events.  Some scenes, characters and dialogue have been fictionalized for dramatic purposes.

As the film is set in the 1980s, Guadagnino chose period Italian pop music (including Giorgio Moroder & Joe Esposito’s “Lady Lady Lady”) for the radio, but particularly spotlights The Psychedelic Furs’ anthem “Love My Way”. “I love The Psychedelic Furs,” says Guadagnino. “It’s kind of autobiographical, because I remember listening to that song when I was seventeen and being completely affected by it. I wanted to pay homage to myself then.”

SUFJAN STEVENS: A singer-songwriter currently living in New York, NY, Sufjan Stevens’ preoccupation with epic concepts has motivated two state records (Michigan and Illinois), a collection of sacred and biblical songs (Seven Swans), an electronic album for the animals of the Chinese zodiac (Enjoy Your Rabbit), an expansive EP in homage to the Apocalypse (All Delighted People), a full length partly inspired by the outsider artist Royal Robertson (The Age of Adz) and two Christmas box sets (Songs for Christmas, vol. 1-5 and Silver & Gold, vol. 6-10). BAM has commissioned two works from Stevens, a programmatic tone poem for the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (The BQE) and an instrumental accompaniment to slow-motion rodeo footage (Round-Up), and he has collaborated extensively with the New York City Ballet choreographer Justin Peck (Year of the Rabbit, Everywhere We Go and The Decalogue). Sevens’ Planetarium, a collaborative album with Nico Muhly, Bryce Dessner and James McAlister imbued with themes of the cosmos, was released this year to widespread critical praise.

His 2015 masterwork Carrie & Lowell explored his relationship with his mother in the wake of her death—a companion collection of outtakes, remixes and demos, The Greatest Gift Mixtape, is set for release November 24.

Patrick Doyle says about the score: “The outstanding performances in the film were inspiring in helping me compose its many motifs and themes. The song Ken and I wrote came much later in the process – it features the harmonies, thematic material and heart of the film – allowing it to grow organically out of the score at the end of the movie.”

Sony Classical: "PROFESSOR MARSTON AND THE WONDER WOMEN" Music by TOM HOWE

Sony Classical proudly announces the release of PROFESSOR MARSTON AND THE WONDER WOMEN (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack).  Featuring composer Tom Howe’s original score, the soundtrack will be available digitally and on CD October 13.

Stage 6 Films’ PROFESSOR MARSTON AND THE WONDER WOMEN premiered to rave reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival. On October 13, the film will be released in U.S. theaters in association with Annapurna Pictures.

“Working with Angela was fantastic,” exclaims Howe. “I was lucky enough to join the project before Angela filmed anything. Early conversations with her about the characters and story arc meant I was able to write a suite which she listened to on set and this formed the main theme and palette for the Marstons. The music takes us on an emotional journey tracking the ups and downs of the Marstons story infusing a subtle twist by using unusual percussion and bondage sounds.”

Sony Classical: "JANE" Music by Philip Glass

Sony Classical proudly announces the release of JANE (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) with a new score of Grammy® and Academy Award ®-nominated composer Philip Glass. The soundtrack will be released digitally on September 29th and on CD on October 6th.

Drawing from over 100 hours of never-before-seen footage that has been tucked away in the National Geographic archives for over 50 years, Academy award nominated director Brett Morgen (Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck) tells the story of JANE, a woman whose chimpanzee research challenged the male-dominated scientific consensus of her time and revolutionized our understanding of the natural world. Set to a rich orchestral score from legendary composer Philip Glass, the film offers an unprecedented, intimate portrait of Jane Goodall — a trailblazer who defied the odds to become one of the world’s most admired conservationists.

The film, which is distributed by National Geographic Documentary Films, is an official selection of the Toronto International Film Festival, New York Film Festival, and London Film Festival, among many others and will be released in select theaters starting October 20 in New York and Los Angeles.

“I wanted JANE to be like a cinematic opera where we start off with a prologue that establishes the musical themes of Gombe, and that idea led me to Philip Glass,” said Morgen. There’s this almost dreamlike element to his score. The way the chimpanzees and all the other animals move in sync with the music. It’s a magical component to Jane’s romantic view of nature.”

The avant-garde composer and three-time Oscar® nominee is renowned for his concert works, operas such as “Einstein on the Beach,” and scores for dozens of films, including “Koyaanisqatsi,” “The Hours” and “Notes on a Scandal.” When Morgen showed him a rough cut of the material, Glass was immediately hooked. "I was really impressed with the quality of filmmaking in terms of the actual cinematography, which was stunning,” Glass says. “It was at such a high level technically; it seemed like it had been filmed yesterday.
