Walt Disney Records: "JUNGLE CRUISE" music by James Newton Howard

Walt Disney Records, the Jungle Cruise Original Motion Picture Soundtrack features score by Oscar®-nominated, Emmy® and Grammy®-winning composer James Newton Howard (“Raya and the Last Dragon,” “News of the World,” “A Hidden Life”).   Disney’s “Jungle Cruise” releases in theaters today and on Disney+ with Premier Access.

Howard is one of the film industry’s most versatile and honored composers, with a career spanning over 30 years and encompassing more than 140 film and television projects. An eight-time Oscar® nominee, Howard has also been honored with ASCAP’s prestigious Henry Mancini Award for Lifetime Achievement and the BMI ICON Award.

Howard describes his collaboration with director Jaume Collet-Serra as “seamless.” “Jaume is very mellow, relaxed and confident. He is very consistent in his approach as a director, which is what every composer hopes for.”

He continues, “It was very clear what I needed to do. It wanted to be big orchestral writing, big on adventure, with a touch of the mystical. The score is also quite emotional in places, so there needed to be themes that could work in lots of different styles.”

Howard used a traditional 100-piece orchestra to record the music, with electronics hidden within the orchestra to provide textures for some of the darker elements in the film. Howard comments, “We bang on brake drums, we blow through conches, and make lots of exotic sounds, but ultimately, it’s all about the storytelling and what instruments do that the best. The orchestra gives the movie scale, excitement and all the emotional resonance it wants to have.”

The digital soundtrack also includes the song “Nothing Else Matters,” which was especially reimagined for “Jungle Cruise” by Metallica and Howard.  The track, which

was written by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, includes featured performances by Hetfield, Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo.

Commenting on working on the song with Metallica, Howard says, “Metallica’s huge hit 'Nothing Else Matters' is really quite a beautiful song. It’s moody, with a memorable melody, and I tried to orchestrate it in a way that would be consistent with the sensibilities of the song."

Join fan favorites Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt for the adventure of a lifetime on Disney’s “Jungle Cruise,” a rollicking thrill-ride down the Amazon with wisecracking skipper Frank Wolff and intrepid researcher Dr. Lily Houghton. Lily travels from London, England to the Amazon jungle and enlists Frank’s questionable services to guide her downriver on La Quila—his ramshackle-but-charming boat. Lily is determined to uncover an ancient tree with unparalleled healing abilities—possessing the power to change the future of medicine. Thrust on this epic quest together, the unlikely duo encounters innumerable dangers and supernatural forces, all lurking in the deceptive beauty of the lush rainforest. But as the secrets of the lost tree unfold, the stakes reach even higher for Lily and Frank and their fate—and mankind’s—hangs in the balance.

Jaume Collet-Serra directs the film, which stars Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Edgar Ramírez and Jack Whitehall, with Jesse Plemons, and Paul Giamatti. John Davis, John Fox, Dwayne Johnson, Hiram Garcia, Dany Garcia and Beau Flynn are the producers, with Scott Sheldon and Doug Merrifield serving as executive producers. The story is by John Norville & Josh Goldstein and Glenn Ficarra & John Requa, and the screenplay is by Michael Green and Glenn Ficarra & John Requa.

The music for Still Life is a beautiful, sober and very moving composition in true Portmanesque fashion. Kronos Records: "PRIVATE PEACEFUL" music by RACHEL PORTMAN

Kronos Records is thrilled to work once again with Oscar-winning composer RACHEL PORTMAN (Emma, Legend Of Bagger Vance, Chocolat, Oliver Twist, The Cider House Rules and Still Life)  this time for the Pat O'Connor's 2012 war-drama "Private Peaceful", based on a novel by Michael Morpurgo (author of War Horse).

Rachel Portman's music for PRIVATE PEACEFUL has all the Portman characteristics; the elegance and finesse we love about her work, a composition that verges on the spiritual that yet finds its way to a very sad, menacing and grim musical pathos that underscores the horrors of war, perfectly underscoring what is going on on the screen and in the minds and hearts of brothers Tommo and Charlie, whose bond could never be severed. A truly beautiful soundtrack by one of the most distinguished of contemporary composers. The Music was recorded by The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra at Barrandov Studios - Smecky Music Studio, Prague.

This release is limited to 500 copies.

Lakeshore Records: "ELDEST SOULS" music by Sergio Ronchetti

Lakeshore Records releases Eldest Souls—Original Game Soundtrack featuring the score debut by London-based, Spanish & Italian composer and sound designer Sergio Ronchetti. The darkly melancholic orchestrated score is redolent of both Ronchetti’s classical training as well as his love of all things metal from his days touring as a heavy metal bassist.  It’s a dramatic, combative musical backdrop to the envelope-pushing pixel art, boss rush, “Souls-like” video game. Developed by Fallen Flag Studio, Eldest Souls was released via publishers, United Label, on July 29.

Explaining his approach to scoring the game, Ronchetti said, “Eldest Souls has two very distinct messages that needed conveying: the brutal, fast-paced combat and the ideas of loneliness and hope. The former was represented by each boss fight’s theme, matching personality and attitude. But since the game-play music is limited to these combat encounters, I wanted to write a piece of music to tie the soundtrack together and give the perspective of mankind and our protagonist.”

Ronchetti created the Eldest Souls “Main Theme” track to counterbalance his more aggressive boss encounter tracks: “The ‘Main Theme’ stands out from all the rest. I love post-minimalism ideals in music and I was very happy to be able to achieve this with live vocals and cello, which made all the difference. The repeating vocal melody serves as mankind’s unfaltering, yet desperate pursuit of victory, in the face of destruction.”

Following centuries of servitude, Man finally rebelled against the Old Gods, imprisoning these colossal calamities within the sacred walls of the Citadel. But an evil stirred within… In a final act of vengeance, the Old Gods have unleashed a great Desolation upon the world. Mankind is fading, with but a glimmer of hope remaining. Heavy is the burden that lies on one lone Warrior. Armed with a great sword… of the purest Obsydian.

London-based, Spanish & Italian composer and sound designer Sergio Ronchetti boldly crafts scores dwelling within realms of dusky depth, mercurial mood, and aggressive execution, drawing upon his background in heavy metal and combining his lyrical tastes with more traditional, orchestral compositional techniques for a truly singular signature style.

Sergio’s debut score for the 2021 pixel-art, boss-rush, “Souls-like” video game Eldest Souls captures the lonely and desolate melancholy of the game world while also providing vigorous, combative battle music matching the intensity of the challenging gameplay and capturing the personality and essence of each iconic boss fight. He cites artists like Trivium, Machine Head, and Gojira as direct references to his Eldest Souls score - even if his instrumentation's are far removed from theirs.

The up-and-coming creative’s music path began in high school where he spent his lunch breaks jamming Metallica songs with friends and trying to recreate Cliff Burton solos with cheap distortion pedals and cheesy power stances.

With no formal musical education, Sergio decided he wanted to become a rock star instead of going to university and joined a metal band at 18 years old as a bassist, eventually touring overseas, writing albums, getting endorsements, playing festivals, and going through countless terrible haircuts. After about four years, having had enough of traveling, sleepless nights, and living his rockstar fantasies, he finally applied for a music degree in London.

Whilst studying, he met collaborators and Eldest Souls game creators Jonathan Costantini and Francesco Barsotti at a free workshop where they were showcasing a very early beta of the game. Sergio was the only one to defeat their ridiculously imbalanced demo boss (which he’s pretty sure is how he got the gig in the first place) and from then on started writing music and designing the sounds for the video game.

Since that day, Sergio began completely immersing himself in game audio and what it took to work in video games, having no idea that a publisher was going to pick up the title and fund their debut IP. Education then took less priority with Jonathan and Francesco dropping out to focus on development full time. Roughly 3 years later, after countless conventions, demos, interviews, and hours of eyestrain behind a computer screen, they got their release date.

Although Sergio’s degree took him down a more classical music path, he still references metal music and guitar as his main influence, still pouring all his teenage angst and pent-up anger into every piece of music he writes. Whether it be orchestral or electronic, his bass guitar is always in some way still involved in his writing or recording.

Sergio’s ambition is to keep leaning into his heavier influences and see how far he can push the modern, aggressive, orchestral sound.

Caldera Records: "BEYOND THE NIGHT/THE PRINTING" music by Dwight Gustafson

Caldera Records is proud to present Dwight Gustafson’s scores for the motion pictures “The Printing” and “Beyond the Night”, directed by Tim Rogers and Katherine Stenholm respectively.

“Beyond the Night”, from 1983, tells the story of John and Bettie Dreisbach, passionate missionaries who first worked in Nigeria tending to leprosy patients and spreading the word of Christ in an area that was nearly exclusively Muslim. For close to ten years, the Dreisbachs served as ministers in the Sahara, before the government forced them to leave. “Beyond the Night” describes the couple’s time in the Sahara Desert. Dwight Gustafson’s themes are infused with discreet elements from African music such as the rhythmic drumming in the “Titles”, specific tone sequences particularly popular in Northern African music (“Trip to the Village”) and a heavy use of grace notes in the woodwinds (“Clinic Day”). What binds the score together is Gustafson’s strong main theme, first heard in the “Titles” and later through diverse variations heard in the course of the movie/score. In its sweeping nature, the theme has a folkloric Americana quality that echoes the works of Aaron Copland and even the spiritual compositions of Alan Hovhaness.

“The Printing” tells the story of hardship experienced by Christians in the cause of their faith. This time, the story is set in the Soviet Union and celebrates Christian believes who, despite being threatened by the communist government which had made it its mission to stifle Christian belief, dared to openly worship the Lord. Not only do the heroes of this film refuse to abandon Christ, but they continue to secretly print Bibles, convinced that God will protect them from the evil schemes of the communists. Gustafson’s music here is as moody and gray as the architecture of communist-era Russia – where incidentally, the composer can also be seen in the film, playing a pastor. Unusually for him, he utilizes a synthesizer and subtle suspensions to introduce his main theme, a downbeat yet still lyrical melody in a minor key that later blossoms through variations that the composer develops during the course of the score. His delicate, sophisticated orchestration remains evident throughout. [http://caldera-records.com/]

The album will be released digitally August 12.  The Siege of Paris will be available across all available platforms*. Ubisoft will announce Economou as the composer and premiere a single, Hásæti,” on Ubisoft News.

Says Economou: “I wanted to root the ‘Siege of Paris’ score in the sounds of ancient instruments. Because there isn’t extensive documented history on what music sounded like in Paris in the year 845, I took some liberties by incorporating instruments from later periods, like viola da gamba, vielle, hurdy gurdy, lyre, kantele, dulcimer, cello, bass, didgeridoo, woodwinds, and frame drums. Vocals also became a large part of the tapestry of the score, with layers of siren calls and chanting in Old Norse, Latin, and French (performed by vocalist Ari Mason). Though the score is entrenched in this acoustic world, I wanted to frame the music in a less traditional way, so you’ll often hear these instruments detuned, liberally sliding between notes, and unconventionally scraped or hit percussively. They are also treated with modern production, giving the raw, primitive sound palette a processed, distorted edge.”

Stephanie Economou is a composer and violinist based in Los Angeles, CA. Her early successes have emerged from her exploration and study of widely varying musical styles, including classical, experimental, folk and rock. Stephanie’s experience in film scoring extends from drama to action to comedy, which has demanded the synthesis of an electronic and acoustic musical palette. It is her uniquely hybridized compositional voice which has proven a valuable asset across a wide spectrum of visual media.

Stephanie is the composer of Netflix’s TV series Jupiter’s Legacy, based on the comic series by Mark Millar. She has written the music for the Lionsgate/Starz series Step Up: High Water, as well as the second season of Manhunt: Deadly Games. Stephanie also scored two episodes of the Disney+ documentary series Marvel’s 616, directed by Gillian Jacobs and Alison Brie. Most recently, she has completed the score for the Assassin’s Creed DLC “Siege of Paris.”

Stephanie is a long-time collaborator of Golden Globe-nominated composer, Harry Gregson-Williams, composing additional music on scores such as Disney’s live-action re-make Mulan, directed by Niki Caro, Jon Turtletaub’s The Meg, Antoine Fuqua’s The Equalizer 2, Disneynature’s Penguins, and Ridley Scott's Oscar-winning film The Martian. Her music can also be heard in Niki Caro’s The Zookeeper’s Wife, Ben Affleck’s Live By Night, and Simon Baker’s Breath. She has also aided in crafting the scores for Hulu’s mini-series Catch-22 directed by George Clooney and Grant Heslov, as well as the ABC/Warner Bros. TV series Whiskey Cavalier.

Originally from Long Island, New York, Stephanie received her Bachelor’s degree in Composition from the New England Conservatory of Music and Master’s in Composition for Visual Media from University of California Los Angeles. In 2015, she was chosen as one of six fellows for the Sundance Institute Composers Lab at Skywalker Ranch. It was through this experience with the Sundance Institute that she felt her diversity as a woman in the film industry to be deeply fostered and celebrated. As a resident board member for The Alliance for Women Film Composers, Stephanie considers the empowerment of women in film an exceedingly necessary platform, and strives to make her voice, as well as other female voices in the industry, heard.

Intrada: "SLEEPY HOLLOW" (4CD) music by Danny Elfman

Intrada brings a taste of Halloween to the world a few months early with this new, 4-CD set of Danny Elfman's dark, serious work for Tim Burton's 1999 adaptation of Washington Irving's Sleepy Hollow. Sleepy Hollow was familiar territory for Elfman: gothic, mythical, creepy, action-packed and romantic. The score features a prominent main theme for the horseman himself. Or is it for Ichabod Crane? Perhaps it's a theme that unifies Crane's childhood and the headless horseman. While the melody is as lyrical as anything Eflman has ever written, it resonates very differently in its various guises throughout the score, whether sung by a boy's choir or by the orchestra playing powerfully over a blasting pipe organ. It's a score that churns and moves in dark powerful currents, a storm of danger and dread.

The score in the film runs 95 minutes, from which Hollywood Records culled 68 minutes for its original album presentation. With the support of both Hollywood Records and Paramount Pictures, Intrada presents a 4-CD set of the score, including some rare finds. The first disc presents the original Hollywood Records program. Discs 2–3 cover the complete score as heard in the film, with the fourth disc featuring over 66 minutes of original and alternate versions, often markedly different from the versions ultimately used in the film.

In Burton’s version of the story, Johnny Depp stars as Ichabod Crane, a New York City homicide detective in 1799, working at the threshold of scientific advances and advocating the use of new forensics technology in a world full of skeptics. Crane is sent to Sleepy Hollow, just up the Hudson River, to solve a string of mysterious be-headings. There he finds a town full of silence and secrets, the heart of which is the Van Tassel family. Crane untangles a complex web of family history and conspiracy involving a dead pregnant widow, a rewritten will, and a possessed Tree of the Dead. Around every turn is the ghost of a Hessian soldier, riding through town and lopping off heads. In digging up the town’s violent past, Crane ends up exhuming his own—a childhood traumatized by the murder of his witchcraft-practicing mother by his hyper-religious father.

For track listing and sound samples, please visit the Sleepy Hollow soundtrack page.

DAMN! This one of the strongest score that needed a upgrade and 20 years later, here it is. BRAVO "INTRADA", this is just amazing!

With his third original music album, veteran film composer Craig Safan (TV's CHEERS, THE LAST STARFIGHTER, SON OF THE MORNING STAR, STAND AND DELIVER) explores his memories of growing up in Los Angeles with a musical celebration of life in the City of Angels.

"I call this album L.A. Ex, which obviously is a play on the airport, but also because a lot of what I wrote are things that now exist only in my memory," Safan explains.  Through a mix of digital samples and live musicians playing real instruments, Safan creates sonic expressions of sounds, feelings, and images of people, places, and things in Los Angeles and its environs that have resonated in remembrance for a lifetime.

Emmy-nominated and eight-time ASCAP award-winning composer Craig Safan has scored feature films, television, and documentaries as well as having three electroacoustic albums of his own music released. For television Safan composed the music for the multi Emmy-winning series “Cheers” plus “Amazing Stories”, “The New Twilight Zone”, and “Tales from the Crypt” as well as the Emmy-winning mini-series “Son of the Morning Star” and “Mission of the Shark”.   Safan also scored the top-selling National Geographic documentary “Secrets of the Titanic” and the Oscar-nominated documentary “The California Reich”. Milan Records: "MINAMATA" music by RYUICHI SAKAMOTO

Milan Records announces the July 30 release of MINAMATA (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) with music by Academy Award®-, Golden Globe®- and GRAMMY®-Award winning composer and musician RYUICHI SAKAMOTO. Available for preorder now, the album features music written by Sakamoto for the Andrew Levitas-directed film based on true events, which follows an American photographer as he documents the effects of mercury poisoning on a coastal town in Japan. Making its debut alongside album pre-order is the score’s main theme, a sweepingly atmospheric and somber piano number that serves as a poignant accompaniment to the film’s story of industrial disaster – listen to “Minamata Piano Theme” here. Also included within the 22-track album is the film’s end credit song “One Single Voice,” which is performed by Welsh mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins. Milan Records will also release a vinyl edition of the soundtrack on July 30 pressed on a pair of 180-gram black vinyl discs and housed in gate-fold packaging with a 12” photo insert, credits and liner notes from director Andrew Levitas – pre-order now.

Of the score and working with Sakamoto, Minamata director Andrew Levitas says, “Ryuichi was my dream collaborator – he would be on any film – but on this mission in particular, there could be no one else…The music quite literally needed to represent both the absolute best of humanity as well as the worst…In my opinion, Ryuichi was able to elegantly ride this razor’s edge and deliver on this concept entirely.”

“It was an honor to be a part of Ryuichi’s beautiful Minamata score,” adds Katherine Jenkins of her inclusion on the soundtrack. “Collaborating with this master with the goal to bring voice to the Minamata patients and the countless others affected by industrial pollution was an inspiring experience which I will always cherish."

Based on the book by the same name, Minamata tells the story of reclusive war photographer Eugene Smith as he travels Japan to document the devastating effect of mercury poisoning among coastal communities. Armed with only his trusted camera, Smith’s images from the toxic village give the disaster a heartbreaking human dimension, and his initial assignment turns into a life-changing experience.

Milan Records: "THE LAST LETTER FROM YOUR LOVER" music by DANIEL HART

Milan Records today releases THE LAST LETTER FROM YOUR LOVER (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) with music by composer and performer DANIEL HART. Available everywhere now, the album features score music written by Hart for director Augustine Frizzell’s upcoming film adaptation of the best-selling romance novel by Jojo Moyes. Grounded by bright, orchestral strings, Hart’s compositions speak to the nuances of the dual-narrative film, at times sweepingly romantic and others gently probing and intimate to chronicle the intertwining love stories. The Last Letter From Your Lover debuts on Netflix today.

Directed by Augustine Frizzell (Euphoria; Never Goin' Back), The Last Letter From Your Lover stars Felicity Jones (The Theory Of Everything, Rogue One, On The Basis Of Sex), Callum Turner (War & Peace, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald, The Capture), Joe Alwyn (The Favourite, Boy Erased, Mary Queen Of Scots), Nabhaan Rizwan (Informer, 1917) and Shailene Woodley (The Fault In Our Stars, Adrift, Big Little Lies).

Of the soundtrack, composer DANIEL HART says, “The film is a true romance, so I wanted to make very romantic music for it. My first attempts felt too sweet to Augustine [Frizzell], who reminded me that the film has plenty of bitter as well. I consider myself a romantic at heart, so making sweeping musical gestures came naturally. Refining them to the nuances of this story was a little more difficult, and in many scenes, we discovered that simpler music worked better. The score is very string heavy, as all my scores are. But we chose clarinet as a frequent musical voice of our heroine. It’s so expressive, and it can move easily from mournful solace to bubbling joy. That’s what we needed for this story.”

Adapted from Jojo Moyes’ best-selling novel, The Last Letter From Your Lover is a passionate, dual-narrative love story set in the French Riviera and London during the 1960s and present day. It tells the tale of elegant Jennifer Stirling (Shailene Woodley) and how her life becomes inextricably interwoven with that of Ellie Haworth (Felicity Jones) in life changing events which connect them across almost half a century.

Jennifer lives a luxurious life with her wealthy and powerful husband Laurence (Joe Alwyn).  When an unfortunate event wipes her memory, she struggles to find her identity until she stumbles upon wistful love letters hidden in her home. The passionate notes unravel a star-crossed love affair she had with foreign correspondent Anthony O’Hare (Callum Turner) and ultimately lead her to discover her true self.

Jennifer’s story becomes intertwined with that of Ellie, a whip-smart journalist in contemporary London, who discovers and becomes enthralled by these love letters from a bygone era. As she begins to piece them together with the help of archivist Rory (Nabhaan Rizwan), she sets off on a journey that will entangle the two women’s lives forever.

The film is produced by Pete Czernin and Graham Broadbent of Blueprint Pictures (Emma, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) alongside Simone Urdl and Jennifer Weiss of The Film Farm (The Captive, Away from Her).  The Last Letter From Your Lover was co-produced and fully financed by STUDIOCANAL and will be released on Netflix in the United States.

Daniel Hart is a composer and performer based in Los Angeles. Hart made his feature film debut in 2013 with the critically acclaimed Ain't Them Bodies Saints, which began his collaboration with filmmaker David Lowery. Hart has composed the music for all of Lowery's films, including Pete's Dragon, A Ghost Story, Old Man and The Gun, and now The Green Knight. Over the past decade, he has also scored multiple TV shows, from Fox's The Exorcist, to SMILF, to The Society. Hart has written music for This American Life, and composed the score for S Town, one of the most popular podcasts of all time.

Hart's musical career started on the road, as a hired gun for bands such as St. Vincent, Broken Social Scene, Other Lives, and The Polyphonic Spree. He continues to work in this field, having recorded strings for St. Vincent's 2021 album Daddy's Home, re-arranging songs for Anjimile's latest release Reunion, and writing new music for his own band Dark Rooms, which has released two albums, and toured extensively throughout the US and Europe over the past eight years.

Perhaps the one man who might be able to help him and be his ally is Elliot Finch (Dìrísù), who up until now, has been one of life’s losers, a lowlife chancer with a mysterious interest in the Wallace family.  But as the wind of fate blows, Elliot finds himself transported to the inner workings of the largest criminal organization in London. It doesn’t end with the Wallace's though, there are shadowy higher powers at play.
