MUCK Scares Off Heavyweight Competition!!

Paramount Pictures isn't going to compete with MUCK for horror fans bucks this Friday the 13th, March 2015. The studio just announced that they are moving the release of Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension back some several months.

The gods of horror smiled upon the MUCK franchise when the perfect release date of Friday the 13th, March 2015 was set. The date is significant not only because MUCK stars Kane Hodder, known for his iconic role as Jason Voorhees in the Friday the 13th film franchise, but also because the horrific events of MUCK take place entirely on St. Patrick's Day, yielding the perfect storm in the month of March for MUCK.

MUCK director Steve Wolsh "wasn't afraid" when Paramount announced that the 6th entry of the Paranormal series would open against his film. Now, many months later, we find out that it won't. Why does the Paranormal franchise suddenly have cold feet? MUCK may have simply scared them off. With a successful MUCK: Kickstarter campaign having recently funded the MUCK prequel, MUCK pre-orders piling up, and an upcoming premiere at the Playboy Mansion, one can't deny all the positive buzz surrounding MUCK. Has David spooked Goliath?

I am thrilled it's almost here and here wiping out the competitors...

Composer duo Brian Trifon and Brian Lee White, aka music producers Finishing Move, have created a unique, modern fantasy score for Massive Chalice, the single player tactical strategy game from the creators of Psychonauts, Brütal Legend, and Iron Brigade. The Massive Chalice Original Soundtrack is now available for streaming on Soundcloud and will be released on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Google Play and Xbox Music on February 2.

The game's development team at Double Fine Productions approached Brian Trifon and Brian Lee White, best known in the recording industry as purveyors of melodic acoustic manipulation and heavy electronic synths, to create an original sound for their game that would transcend a traditional orchestral palette for a more unconventional and experimental soundtrack specific to the individual artistic vision for Massive Chalice.

"The game doesn't rely on standard fantasy tropes like elves, dwarves, or dragons and I knew that I wanted a unique soundtrack that would match the originality of the game," explains Brad Muir, Project Lead for Massive Chalice. "We relied on the music to carry a lot of the emotional weight of the game, and Finishing Move really understood what we were going for. The score quickly became the core of the game's emotional content for us as we developed the game."

Developed by Double Fine Productions, the award-winning, independent game studio founded by Tim Schafer, Massive Chalice is currently in beta for Windows, Mac, and Linux. For more information visit

La-La Land Records: The Scorpion King 4: Quest for Power - Geoff Zanelli

La-La Land Records and Backlot Music present the cd soundtrack album for The Scorpion King 4: Quest for Power, Universal Picture’s action/adventure feature starring Victor Webster and Lou Ferrigno. This massive orchestral soundtrack features 20 new score cues by Emmy Award-winning composer Geoff Zanelli (“Into the West” miniseries).

Zanelli has become a standout in the film and television scoring industry, garnering accolades and recognition for his work since going solo after numerous collaborations with Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer.

Zanelli had a fond experience working with director Mike Elliot, saying, “What gives this movie its identity and sets it apart is the way it uses humor to challenge the clichés and gender stereotypes that can keep a fantasy film from feeling fresh, or fun, or original.” With respect to the score, he goes on to say, “I tried to imbue the score with gravitas and play to the epic nature of the story. But whenever I’d start to get pretentious or too self-important, my director [Elliot] would say something like, ‘Geoff, please don’t forget that there are two grown women in tattered clothes having a cage fight in this movie.’ There’s a dragon, too.”

Join an exciting new chapter in the action-packed series from the Producers of The Mummy! After the king of Norvania is assassinated, the legendary Scorpion King Mathayus is framed for the crime and must fight off an entire kingdom of soldiers. Now Mathayus (Victor Webster) and his only remaining allies, a mysterious woman and her unconventional father, are the last hope to stop the evil heir to the throne on his quest for an ancient and almighty mystical power. Featuring Lou Ferrigno (The Incredible Hulk) and an all-star cast of fighters, including Roy “Big Country” Nelson (Winner of The Ultimate Fighter), Royce Gracie (UFC Hall of Fame) and Don Wilson (Three-time World Kickboxing Champion).

The first 150 or so customers who purchase the cd directly through the La-La Land website will receive a signed booklet autographed by the composer. As always, this is based on a first come first served basis and you are not guaranteed a signed copy.

Lakeshore Records: Words and Pictures and Playing It Cool [2015]

WORDS AND PICTURES – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack available digitally on January 17th and on CD March 10, 2015.  The album features original score by Paul Grabowsky (THE EYE OF THE STORM, HBO’s EMPIRE FALLS).

“One of the central plot points of WORDS AND PICTURES hinges around a poem supposedly penned by Jack (Clive Owen) that elicits a series of pictorial responses from Dina (Juliette Binoche). This poem, written in reality by the screenwriter Gerald DiPego, is a beautiful evocation of the creative impulse, the idea driving the film. The elephant in the room, especially from a composer’s point of view, is the place of music in this binary universe,” said Grabowsky.

PLAYING IT COOL – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on February 10, 2014, and on CD March 10, 2015.  The album features original music by Jake Monaco (OUT TO KILL, KILIMANJARO) with additional music by Andrew Feltenstein & John Nau (ANCHORMAN 2: THE LEGEND CONTINUES, TV's THE SPOILS OF BABYLON).

“The score is centered around a small rhythm section for a smaller, intimate feel, but there are always a few elements that have been manipulated to make it feel a little more contemporary,” Monaco said. “The vignettes throughout the film each have their own idea, from the Korean Soap opera to the story about the Serf finding love. Writing music that was not only appropriate for the time and place where the story was set, but also keeping it somewhat connected to the rest of the score was a new challenge that we had a lot of fun going back and forth on.”

Looks like to loving films... let's share them together... ahhhh!

Silva Screen Records: GRANTCHESTER [2015] - John Lunn

Silva Screen Records will release the GRANTCHESTER –Soundtrack to the Television Series, digitally on January 20th.  The album features original music composed by John Lunn (DOWNTON ABBEY, THE WHITE QUEEN).

“It was a joy to work on,” Lunn comments. “I like to think of the music as a kind of ethereal impressionism where the music comes down from Heaven in order to help Sidney crack these crimes of passion, confront his demons and assist with his love life, though I think in series one God was more successful with the first two than the latter!”

Grantchester is a detective drama set in a 1950s Cambridgeshire village of Grantchester near Cambridge, where local Anglican vicar Sidney Chambers (James Norton) develops a sideline in sleuthing - with the initially reluctant help of grumpy Detective Inspector Geordie Keating (Robson Green). The series is based on The Grantchester Mysteries books written by James Runcie.

Lunn continues, “I was thinking of fifties and sixties Italian movies to begin with but gradually moved towards a more modern score using electronics, solo piano, clarinet and string orchestra. Nevertheless the original inspiration is still buried in there somewhere.”

The GRANTCHESTER – Original Television Soundtrack will be available digitally on January 20th.

Varèse Sarabande: THE LOFT [2015] - John Frizzell

Varèse Sarabande Records will release THE LOFT – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and on CD January 20, 2015.  John Frizzell (GODS AND GENERALS, TV’s THE FOLLOWING) composed the original music for the film.

“Erik Van Looy [director] and I worked very closely together to create a score for his film that augmented the intricate structure of the story,” said Frizzell.  “Told through a series of flashbacks, this thriller slowly reveals more and more, all the time asking more questions.  My goal was to have the score use themes to have this precise web of story lines reach maximum impact for the audience.”

In 2014, John Frizzell began Season 3 of Kevin Williamson’s FOX series THE FOLLOWING, and season 1 of Williamson’s new CBS series STALKER.  Frizzell’s work includes scores for films as varied as ALIEN: RESURRECTION, the cult hit OFFICE SPACE, GODS AND GENERALS and THE PRIZE WINNER OF DEFIANCE, OHIO.  He collaborated with rap star DMX’s producing team on the score for the crime drama CRADLE 2 THE GRAVE and composed the score for the Looney Tunes characters in the short THE WHIZZARD OF OW.  His additional film credits include LEGION, TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D and BEAVIS AND BUTTHEAD DO AMERICA.  For television, he created the score for the award-winning biopic JAMES DEAN and the acclaimed telefilm CRIME OF THE CENTURY, to name a few.

Karl Urban (STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS) and James Marsden (2 GUNS) star in the tense psychological thriller THE LOFT, the story of five guys who conspire to secretly share a penthouse loft in the city--a place where they can indulge in their deepest fantasies. But the fantasy becomes a nightmare when they discover the dead body of an unknown woman in the loft, and they realize one of the group must be involved. Paranoia seizes them as everyone begins to suspect one another. Friendships are tested, loyalties are questioned and marriages crumble as the group is consumed by fear, suspicion and murder in this relentless thriller.

Open Road Films presents THE LOFT, in theaters on January 30, 2015. THE LOFT - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack from Varèse Sarabande Records will be available digitally and on CD January 20, 2015.
Seen the trailer, looks like  great film... the score adds to the level of suspense... it keeps you interested as each track plays. Keeping youe eyes open, the loft might be a good thing until someone gets killed and someone does.

Lakeshore Records: CHICAGO FIRE: SEASON ONE - Atli Örvarsson

Lakeshore Records will release the CHICAGO FIRE: SEASON ONE – Original Television Soundtrack and the CHICAGO FIRE: SEASON TWO – Original Television Soundtrack digitally on January 6th and on CD March 10, 2015. The album features original music by Atli Örvarsson (“The Eagle,” “Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.”)

“The best information I got was talking to the creators of the show about their conversations with real firefighters so their research for the series as a whole helped me with the music,” explained Örvarsson. “The show found its soul in the heroism of these civil servants, their togetherness and the drama of their daily lives. It is the latter that’s the focus of these soundtrack releases.”

From renowned Emmy®-winning executive producer Dick Wolf and creators Derek Haas and Michael Brandt, the writing team behind “3:10 To Yuma,” “Chicago Fire” is an edge-of-your-seat view into the lives of everyday heroes committed to one of America’s noblest professions. No job is more stressful, dangerous or exhilarating than those of the firefighters, rescue squad and paramedics of Chicago Firehouse 51. These courageous men and women are among the elite who forge headfirst into danger when everyone else is running the other way. The enormous responsibilities of the job also take a personal toll, but despite any differences this is an extended family and when it is “go time,” everyone inside Firehouse 51 knows no other way than to lay it all on the line for each other.

“Chicago Fire” returns with an original episode on Tuesday January 6, 2015 (10 p.m. ET) on NBC.  The CHICAGO FIRE: SEASON ONE – Original Television Soundtrack and the CHICAGO FIRE: SEASON TWO – Original Television Soundtrack are being released digitally on January 6th and on CD March 10, 2015.

I enjoyed this score [Seasons 1 and 2] as it builds to the episodes it hides within, you can totally listen to this on it's own as the talent of Atli Örvarsson seems to ring throughout. Here is the post for the second season [Click Here]...

Nettwerk: Still Alice [2015] - Ilan Eshkeri

Still Alice is a 2014 American drama film written and directed by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland[4][5] and based on Lisa Genova's 2007 bestselling novel of the same name. The film stars Julianne Moore in the role of Alice, a Columbia linguistics professor diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's disease. Alec Baldwin plays her husband John. Kristen Stewart, Kate Bosworth, and Hunter Parrish play her children Lydia, Anna, and Tom.

Nettwerk is proud to release the Still Alice: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack on January 13, just a few days before the wide opening of the film on January 16. Composed by acclaimed British composer Ilan Eshkeri (The Young Victoria, Stardust), the score has already received critical praise for its beautiful accentuation of the film’s highly emotional journey, which follows Alice Howland (portrayed by 2015 Golden Globe-nominee Julianne Moore) as she struggles with Early-Onset Alzheimer’s Disease. The album will also feature a cover of Lyle Lovett’s “If I Had A Boat” by British musician Karen Elson, which plays during the credits at the end of the film.

Feeling like you are losing yourself, is a tough capture for anyone... now having to find a place musical where do you go? Ilan Eshkeri takes us to places we in a subtle scenic scope that sometimes feels uplifting that can turn into a sweet sadness.

History Channel: SWAMP PEOPLE (Season 5) [DVD]

Alligator season in Louisiana begins on the first Wednesday in September and lasts for 30 days. In this time, many of the alligator hunters, following a tradition dating back 300 years, earn most of their yearly income in a high risk vocation dependent on experience and the whims of weather within strict regulation by wildlife laws. Hunters are each issued a certain number of tags that must be attached to their kills; once they "tag out" (run out of tags), their season is over, and they may no longer kill any more alligators for the rest of the season.

During this 30 day window, some of these hunters earn most of their annual income culling alligators; therefore, the ultimate goal for the alligator hunters is to tag out before the season ends. Most of the hunters spend the rest of the year harvesting other species (fish, crawfish, shrimp, crabs, raccoons, turtles, etc.) to augment their yearly incomes and/or holding down full-time jobs in other industries.

Magnolia Home Entertainment: LIFE’S A BREEZE [DVD]

LIFE’S A BREEZE is a charming dramedy that follows a family struggling to stay afloat and together through hard times in Ireland. When the family makes a well-intentioned attempt to clean out their mother’s house, and accidentally trashes a mattress she has been stashing her life savings in, Nan (Fionnula Flanagan), her unemployed slacker son Colm (Pat Shortt), and his niece Emma (Kelly Thornton) must overcome their many differences to lead their family in a race against time to find a lost fortune.

I know sometimes families are dysfunctional... well this family is no different . They can make a difference and they do, though it takes them a little while to figure it all out. Would I watch it again, I would say most definitely "yes"...

Lionsgate: The Lost Legion [DVD]

After years of decline, the Roman Empire is desperate to recapture its past. Amidst war and political confusion, Urbina Prima schemes to make her son, Cassius, the next emperor. The only thing standing in their way is Maximus, a once great Roman commander with his own dreams of nobility. Can Rome reclaim its glory, or will the chaos lead to civil war?

So this film wants to be a whole bunch of films, sadly it never reaches any sort of level than leaving the royal sleeping chambers. Sure if you want of nudity and talk of war and fighting well then this is for you... though I am proud to say I did watch the whole film from start to finish. All the parents of all the people in this film... should be proud, very proud!

Granted near-unfettered access to the notoriously insular Studio Ghibli, director Mami Sunada follows the three men who are the lifeblood of Ghibli – the eminent director Hayao Miyazaki, the producer Toshio Suzuki, and the elusive and influential “other director” Isao Takahata – over the course of a year as the studio rushes to complete two films, Miyazaki’s The Wind Rises and Takahata’s The Tale of The Princess Kaguya. The result is a rare “fly on the wall” glimpse of the inner workings of one of the world’s most celebrated animation studios – creators of successful films including Princess Mononoke and the Oscar® winning Spirited Away, the highest-grossing Japanese film of all time – and an insight into the dreams, passion and singular dedication of these remarkable creators.

It was a treat, something to step inside and see a whole other world and the inspiration for so many characters and creatures.

“Manson and I became friends through CALIFORNICATION, when he played himself on the show, and then performed together at the Greek Theater for the season finale episode a couple years ago. We got together for a casual creative session, which led to making the new album,” said Bates.
