Intrada: TROLL (180 GRAM VINYL) - Richard Band

Intrada inaugurates its new line of 180-gram vinyl releases with Richard Band's colorful fantasy/horror score to the 1986 film Troll.  Featuring custom artwork by Paul Shipper on UV coated stock and a brand new mastering for vinyl, this resurrected format allows for generous showcasing of the artwork the world gave up when it moved away from vinyl some 30 years ago.  But it's back!

In the score proper, Band fashioned a pair of musical ideas that range from a serene, major-key melody infused with harp arpeggios, triangle, electronics and other bell effects to a diabolical, rhythmic ostinato for chorus and strings identifying the troll terrorizing the building.  As with the earlier CD release, Intrada has retained the original LP program fashioned carefully by the composer.  His original 1985 soundtrack album, featured large, cohesive "movements" -- a film music symphony, of sorts.  As the score progresses through its movements, Band merely suggests at the "troll" motif in "Cantos I", explores it further in "Cantos II", then lets it finally emerge in force as the dynamic "Cantos Profanae" for full chorus and orchestra.

In the film, an unassuming San Francisco apartment complex is home to a hidden gateway to the troll universe. When an unsuspecting family moves into the building, a troll abducts the family's youngest daughter and assumes her likeness. Free of its ugly appearance, the troll moves from apartment to apartment, transforming tenants into mythical creatures and the rooms within to the enchanted woodlands of the troll world.  Only the older brother and the building's resident witch can save the world at large from the Troll universe.  The film Stars Michael Moriarty, Noah Hathaway, June Lockhart, Anne Lockhart, Sony Bono, Shelley Hack, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Jenny Beck. John Carl Buechler masterminded the creature effects, penned the story, and directed, as well.

In the Wild West, two brothers embark on a journey to collect a bounty in a desperate attempt to save their home: but what they find along the way is more than they bargained for. Bonus materials on THE TIMBER include two featurettes exploring the creation of the “Gunfight” and “Nightmare” sequences, interviews with actors Josh Peck, Elisa Lasowski and Julian Glover, as well as commentary with Director Anthony O’Brien.

1898.  Alaskan frontier. Two brothers, balanced on the knife’s edge between foreclosure and salvation, head deep into the wilderness in an attempt to execute a warrant in hopes of saving their home. Torn from their family, they face harsh elements, crazed men, and death at every corner in pursuit of the outlaw, a twisted man who has turned the Yukon Territory into his own personal hell. THE TIMBER captures the mania, starvation, swindles, hardships, and dangers that were part of the late 19th century’s historic rush for gold. This is a story of greed, betrayal, and redemption in a place where bloodshed was common and graves were carved in ice.

Wild Eye Releasing: QUEEN CRAB [DVD]

Wild Eye Releasing has announced the September 29th DVD and VOD release of Queen Crab.  The latest film from cult auteur Brett Piper (They Bite, The Screaming Dead, Raiders of the Living Dead) Queen Crab is a loving, action-packed tribute to the classic days of practical stop-motion animation, evoking the days of Ray Harryhausen creature features.

With recent successes such as Sharknado and some type of Super-Octopus vs. Something, well here is a film that is a little more simple.... Simple in the sense of the budget, not that in this film that is a bad thing. Here we get a giant crab and it's world gets rocked when and only when it's privacy becomes public knowledge. I am not saying you are going to be mislead here, the acting is okay, the story is okay... you really are here for the Queen Crab.  I would watch this again, just fun and doesn't take itself too serious.

KeepMoving Records: The Snow Walker - Mychael Danna

Written and directed by Charles Martin Smith, The Snow Walker is based on the fiction of Canadian author and environmental activist Farley Mowat (of Never Cry Wolf fame). The story follows the trials of veteran bush pilot Charlie Halliday (Barry Pepper) and Kanaalaq (Annabella Piugattuk), a sick Inuit girl who needs medical attention. When they crash land in the middle of the wild, the tables turn and Kanaalaq becomes the one who provides help and gives survival tips to her companion, going as far as sacrificing herself in the process...

The score is a collaboration between Oscar-winning composer Mychael Danna and Paul Intson who assisted Danna in dozens of scores in various capacities. As Danna is best-known for incorporating elements of ethnic music into his scores from his gamelan-inspired work on The Ice Storm to Armenian music in Ararat or Indian influences in his Academy Award winning Life of Pi, it was only natural that the two composers would try to place elements of Inuit music into this score, including throat singing, percussion and the sonoran (a Native American flute).

It's a masterful pieces of music!

Lakeshore Records: TRUMBO - Theodore Shapiro

Lakeshore Records will release the TRUMBO – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and on CD November 6, 2015. The album features the film’s original score by Theodore Shapiro (THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY, ST. VINCENT) and classic tracks from Big Jay McNeely and Billie Holiday.  TRUMBO received its world premiere at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival and Bleecker Street will release the film in theaters on November 6.

“I had a strong sense of what I wanted the score to sound like but I didn’t know of any other scores that were similar,” said Shapiro, who initially received select scenes from the film before it had been ‘temped’ with anyone else’s music.

The successful career of 1940s screenwriter Dalton Trumbo (Bryan Cranston) comes to a crushing end when he and other Hollywood figures are blacklisted for their political beliefs. TRUMBO (directed by Jay Roach) tells the story of his fight against the U.S. government and studio bosses in a war over words and freedom, which entangled everyone in Hollywood from Hedda Hopper (Helen Mirren) and John Wayne to Kirk Douglas and Otto Preminger.

“Throughout the score I used dense clusters of harmony, useful both for their tonal complexity and subtle evocation of jazz harmonies,” Shapiro explained.  “The main theme of TRUMBO is a simple and haunting theme played on the piano, with dark block chords in the bass and a droning texture of low saxes and electronically manipulated cello.  It speaks both to Trumbo’s character and also to the toll exacted by the blacklist— the lives ruined, and the principles of the country compromised.”

Lakeshore Records will release the TRUMBO – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on and on CD November 6, 2015.

Varèse Sarabande: AMERICAN ULTRA [2015] - Marcelo Zarvos with additional original music by Orbital’s Paul Hartnoll

Varèse Sarabande will release the AMERICAN ULTRA – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on September 25, 2015. The album features original music by composer Marcelo Zarvos (ROCK THE KASBAH, THE AFFAIR) with additional original music by Orbital’s Paul Hartnoll (TORMENTED, PEAKY BLINDERS)

Brazilian-born Marcelo Zarvos (THE AFFAIR, RAY DONOVAN) burst onto the indie film landscape in 2001 with his score for KISSING JESSICA STEIN and in 2004 with the film adaptation of the John Irving novel, THE DOOR IN THE FLOOR. Though Zarvos’ training began by studying classical music in his teens he later began delving into jazz and world music.  This expansion of influence helped to create Zarvos’ trademark sound - a seamless blend of classical, orchestral, rock, electronic and various ethnic and folk elements, together create uniquely affecting and emotionally charged music.

Zarvos, who earned his BFA from Cal Arts, was named one of the 25 New Faces of Indie Film in 2004 by FilmMaker Magazine.  His film credits include THE DOOR IN THE FLOOR, ENOUGH SAID, THE GOOD SHEPHERD, THE WORDS, BROOKLYN’S FINEST, THE FACE OF LOVE, REACHING FOR THE MOON (FLORES RARAS), SIN NOMBRE and HOLLYWOODLAND.  Zarvos has been nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards (for YOU DON’T KNOW JACK and TAKING CHANCE) and two HMMA Awards for BROOKLYN’S FINEST and ENOUGH SAID.  His television work includes the hit Showtime series THE AFFAIR, RAY DONOVAN, THE BIG C and the HBO movie PHIL SPECTOR.  Zarvos’ upcoming projects include an adaptation of the John le Carré novel OUR KIND OF TRAITOR, ROCK THE KASBAH, and the sci-fi thriller CELL.

“Paul comes from the pop world and I obviously come from film,” said Zarvos. “I think the idea was to blend those two worlds into a cohesive whole.”

“I’d had chat with Nima, the director.  We spoke about the various themes and styles that would be needed for the film,” Hartnoll explained. “Nima’s main directions were ‘make it more organic with the drums’, he wanted them to have a primal feel.  Another one was ‘do something that would kick off at the Glastonbury Festival’, and ‘more wrapped, more twisted!’ All words as a composer, you want to hear!”

Paul Hartnoll is a British writer, producer and composer of music, widely recognized for his pioneering work with the band Orbital. Known for their innovations in electronic music, Orbital were equally famed for their blend of visual presentation and live performance - an approach born of the same audio-visual sensibility that informs Paul's work to this day. Over the span of their 25-year career, Orbital toured extensively and released eight albums, culminating in a performance at the 2012 London Paralympics Opening Ceremony with Professor Stephen Hawking.

Whilst Orbital's music has been licensed to feature films including Hackers, Mortal Kombat, and Mean Girls, the band also scored and composed new material for movies and television including Event Horizon, The Saint, The Beach", xXx, and Pusher. As a composer Paul has written music for many commercial campaigns, with clients including Volkswagen, Range Rover, Rolex, Ralph Lauren, and the NSPCC. Though primarily associated with electronic music, Paul's stated and audible influences have always leant towards to the cinematic, with frequent nods to John Barry and Ennio Morricone via the machine led sensibilities of Kraftwerk and the upstart instincts of do-it-yourself punk. His movie and television work has included music for the film TORMENTED and scoring the second season of the BBC Series PEAKY BLINDERS.

Lionsgate Film presents AMERICAN ULTRA currently in theaters. Varèse Sarabande will release the AMERICAN ULTRA – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on September 25, 2015.

SUMTHING ELSE MUSIC WORKS TO RELEASE UBISOFT VIDEO GAME SOUNDTRACKS ON CD AND VINYL

Assassin's Creed® soundtracks to be issued on physical formats from September 25; Publisher-label deal also includes Far Cry®, Prince of Persia®, Rayman®, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell®
Original Game Soundtracks.

Sumthing Else Music Works, the premier record label dedicated to releasing video game soundtracks, today announced that it has entered into a multiple-title licensing agreement with Ubisoft, to release physical editions of the original soundtracks from blockbuster video game franchises Assassin's Creed®, Far Cry®, Prince of Persia®, Rayman® and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell®.

"We're excited to be working with Ubisoft in bringing their physical product and lineup of artists and titles to the worldwide marketplace," said Andy Uterano, President of Sumthing Else Music Works.

Under terms of the agreement Sumthing Else will issue Ubisoft's music catalog on CD and select titles on vinyl, commencing with the original soundtracks from its historical action-adventure series Assassin's Creed® on September 25. Featuring the music of BAFTA award-winning, Billboard and MTV Video Music Awards nominated composer Jesper Kyd and Grammy award-winning, Emmy and BAFTA nominated composer Lorne Balfe, the first physical soundtracks to be released include:

* Assassin's Creed Original Game Soundtrack - Music by Jesper Kyd

BAFTA winning composer Jesper Kyd's immersive soundtrack evokes the medieval Middle-Eastern setting. Set in 1191 AD, when the Third Crusade was tearing the Holy Land apart, Assassin's Creed enables players to become truly immersed into the mindset of Altaïr, the game's main character, and the rich environments of the game through Jesper Kyd's thematic original score. The combination of cinematic compositions with Middle-Eastern acoustic instruments and vocal performances, featuring full choir and soloists, delivers a deeply meditative and spiritual aesthetic.

* Assassin's Creed II Original Game Soundtrack (2-CD) - Music by Jesper Kyd

Assassin's Creed II features a new hero, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, a young Italian noble, and a new era, the Renaissance. To reflect the change in character, story and setting for Assassin's Creed II, Jesper Kyd took the music in an adventurous and dramatic new direction, crafting a melodic, acoustic and progressive musical palette. The music propels the action, captures the allure and mystery of the story and immerses players in the breathtakingly detailed settings. Kyd's multi-award winning Renaissance-inspired score features the series' iconic theme, "Ezio's Family".

* Assassin's Creed Brotherhood Original Game Soundtrack - Music by Jesper Kyd

The third iteration in the critically acclaimed series, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood was inspired by historical events during the occupation of Rome by The Borgias in 1503. "Researching the history of the Borgia Family it became clear early on that Assassin's Creed Brotherhood would require a very dark score in order to match the Borgias' aspirations to become the rulers of Italy. The music follows the compelling story of Ezio as a Master Assassin going up against The Borgias." - Jesper Kyd

* Assassin's Creed Revelations The Complete Recordings (3-CD) - Music by Jesper Kyd and Lorne Balfe

In Assassin's Creed Revelations, Master Assassin Ezio Auditore walks in the footsteps of the legendary mentor Altaïr, on a journey of discovery and revelation. Introducing the "Assassin's Creed Theme", cut-scenes and multiplayer music by Grammy winning composer/producer Lorne Balfe, recorded with a full live orchestra, and featuring a rich, evocative hybrid in-game music score by Jesper Kyd drawing on Greek, Renaissance and Middle-Eastern instrumentation, combining his emotional melodic writing and acoustic/electronic styles associated with the series.

* Assassin's Creed III Original Soundtrack - Music by Lorne Balfe

Assassin's Creed III invited players to experience the untold story of the American Revolution through the eyes of a new Assassin, Connor. Designed from the ground up, Assassin's Creed III takes one of gaming's most beloved franchises to new heights with Lorne Balfe returning to helm the original score. "I wanted to create an epic feeling that would complement the grandeur of the visuals. This was the beginning of America as we know it today - filled with cultures from across the world. With such diversity available, I was able to bring Celtic and other musical influences into the game to further accentuate the complexities of the game itself." - Lorne Balfe

The remaining Assassin's Creed original soundtracks will be released on CD in October and select titles on vinyl in 2016:

* Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag Original Game Soundtrack - Music by Brian Tyler
* Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag Game Soundtrack Sea Shanty Edition - Various Artists
* Assassin's Creed Unity Original Game Soundtrack Volumes 1 & 2 - Music by Chris Tilton and Sarah Schachner

The licensing deal announced today also includes physical releases for the Far Cry®, Prince of Persia®, Rayman® and Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell® soundtracks - release dates to be announced.

Caldera Records: REBECCA [1997-2015] - Christopher Gunning

Caldera Records is proud to present the original score for the television movie Rebecca from 1997, directed by Jim O'Brien and starring Emilia Fox, Charles Dance, Faye Dunaway and Diana Rigg. The movie is based on the famous novel of the same name by Daphne du Maurier which had already been made into a successful movie by Alfred Hitchcock in 1940. It tells the tragic love story between a rich gentleman and his second wife who not only has to cope with an obsessive and evil housekeeper but also with the shadow of the first wife who obviously died under strange circumstances... Christopher Gunning wrote one of his most beautiful and rich scores for this adaption, capturing every aspect of the story in his music. While there is a dark and melancholic main theme, the romance between the (happy) couple is described in a lush melody for the full orchestra which receives its variations throughout the whole score.

The tense moments in the movie are accompanied by aggressive outbursts from the orchestra, often featuring prominent, difficult and expressive solos from the cello. Christopher Gunning himself thinks of Rebecca as one of his very best scores and we are glad that you can finally see for yourself that it is indeed – but even more than that: it is one of the most diverse and inspired scores ever written for television. As a bonus, we included an exclusive audio commentary by the composer where he talks about his work. The eleventh CD-release of Caldera Records features a detailed booklet-text by Gergely Hubai and elegant artwork by Luis Miguel Rojas. The CD was produced by Stephan Eicke and John Elborg.

Varèse Sarabande: EVEREST - Dario Marianelli

Varèse Sarabande will release the EVEREST – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and on CD September 18, 2015.  The album features the original music composed by Dario Marianelli (ATONEMENT, THE BOXTROLLS).

“My initial instinctive approach to the score, which our director, Baltasar Kormákur, liked and encouraged me to follow, was to have a calling voice, a distant siren call,” explained Marianelli.  “It is at the same time a voice that represents the ancient goddess-like mountain, but also a luring and irresistible calling to one’s own destiny.”

Inspired by the incredible events surrounding an attempt to reach the summit of the world’s highest mountain, EVEREST documents the awe-inspiring journey of two different expeditions challenged beyond their limits by one of the fiercest snowstorms ever encountered by mankind.  Their mettle tested by the harshest elements found on the planet, the climbers will face impossible obstacles as a lifelong obsession becomes a breathtaking struggle for survival.  The epic adventure stars Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Sam Worthington, Keira Knightley, Emily Watson and Jake Gyllenhaal.

“The opposite point of the musical compass is the ‘conquering’ attitude of the mountaineers, a kind of macho, go-getting approach to nature,” Marianelli continued, “which is reflected in a much more propulsive, percussive and energetic musical idiom.”

Universal Pictures’ EVEREST may now be experienced exclusively on IMAX 3D and premium-large format 3D screens on September 18. It will be released wide—including standard 2D and 3D—on September 25. Varèse Sarabande will release the EVEREST – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and on CD September 18, 2015.

Brainier than his peers, Ed figures playing high school football might be good way to make more friends, but his only new friend Eloise (Emma Roberts) thinks it's odd. When Ed gets an assignment to write an essay about someone from an older generation, he introduces himself to his neighbor Ashby Holt (Mickey Rourke) and the two embark on an unlikely, immediate friendship. Ashby’s style of tough love takes some getting used to but, over time, Ed learns a lot from Ashby, including how to be courageous… which is very much needed when he learns his new best friend is a former CIA assassin.

Interview with Composer... Pedro Bromfman

Jeremy [The Wolf]:  How did you get involved on the show "NARCOS" and where do you see the opportunities for composers to more involved in shows like this that are featured only on the internet?

Pedro Bromfman: Initially through my longtime friend and collaborator José Padilha, one of the creators of the show. I’m happy to be involved with anything José works on, I think he has true vision and an amazing talent as a filmmaker. Apart from that I was very excited about this project for a couple of reasons. Being from Brazil, I’m fascinated about South American history. I clearly remember hearing about the Colombian situation and the stranglehold the Cartels had on the country and its people. It’s amazing to watch it all on TV and to think that, even though names were changed and some characters were made up, most of what you see on screen actually happened. Last but not least the opportunity to work with a company like Netflix, producing such amazing content and truly disrupting the way we watch TV and consume entertainment. Netflix in my opinion is transcending the boundaries of the internet, it is a main stream source of entertainment present in smart TVs, tablets, phones, etc.

Jeremy [The Wolf]:  Robocop that you scored, that was a big huge step in your career... being a remake/retelling how much support or flack did you take, from the fans of the original film? Was there a level of hostility from people on the main theme by Basil Poledouris being part of the score you did, paying homage to the original?

Pedro Bromfman: I’m very proud of RoboCop and the music I created for it. I think if the project had a different name and was not released as a reboot, hardcore fans might have watched it and judged it for what it is. We ultimately made the film we set out to make, with José fighting for his vision all the way through. It was a bit upsetting that the film and score were attacked and dismissed by fans from the very beginning, most times by people who didn’t even watch it. I think some of the hostility towards the score was not directed at my modest use of the main original theme but for not using the entire score. I think people actually wanted Mr. Poledouris’ score throughout the film. Critics and hardcore fans don’t necessarily understand the process of making a blockbuster film nowadays, the hurdles and pressures involved. They also don’t understand that a score like Basil’s, unfortunately would not be approved in a modern Hollywood film. I’m certainly a huge fan and I fought to find a place for his theme in our movie but this was a very different RoboCop and it needed a very different score. I did my job and managed to please my director and both studios behind the film and that’s what I set out to do.

Jeremy [The Wolf]:  You have acted in a full roles, what is it like to be in front of the camera instead of seeing it as you prepare for the score?

Pedro Bromfman: I only acted in a couple of friend’s movies, purely for the fun of it. I don’t consider myself an actor or have any ambition to pursue it further but some of my filmmaker friends seem to want to take me out of my comfort zone and out of my studio :) I think acting on a film gives me the advantage of being involved early on and really understanding our story and its characters. I try to get that same advantage even when I’m just wearing my composer hat on a project. I feel that the earlier a composer is involved, the better he’ll understand that project’s musical needs. On Narcos for example, I was involved before a single frame was shot and some of the initial pieces I wrote after reading a few scripts are actually some of the main themes in Narcos.

Jeremy [The Wolf]:  Congratulations for becoming a recent father, how do you feel that might influence future projects... have you written a theme for your child, yet?

Pedro Bromfman: Thank you! This has been the single most amazing thing that's ever happened in my life. It certainly puts things into perspective and makes me see everything through a different lens. My baby girl was born as I finished the last episode of the show and I wrote all of the show’s music as she grew and developed in my wife’s belly, two gestational periods at once. I have written a song for my daughter and my wife has written the lyrics it’s called Siena, our baby’s name. I do believe her arrival has already made me a more mature composer. As for the influence on future projects, I’d love to be involved with more projects that she could possibly watch before she’s an adult and can handle such complicated and violent characters like Pablo Escobar. Having said that I’m passionate about Narcos and hope to start working on a second season in a not so distant future.

Wanted to thank composer Pedro Bromfman for giving us some time and wish him a world of future success!
Jeremy [The Wolf]

IFMCA nominated composer Matthew Llewellyn scores The Murder Pact for Lifetime® Television

Los Angeles, CA (September 16, 2015) - IFMCA nominated composer Matthew Llewellyn (Wishin' And Hopin', Deep In The Darkness) has created the analog synth score for The Murder Pact, airing on Lifetime, Sunday, September 20. Inspired by the Edgar Allan Poe classic "The Tell-Tale Heart", writer John Doolan and director Colin Theys (Deep In The Darkness, Wishin' and Hopin') give a new spin to Poe's story which now revolves around four friends whose promising future at a prestigious university is jeopardized when they witness the accidental death of their classmate. As another student reveals she knows about their involvement, the friends panic and start to plot her murder. The Murder Pact stars Alexa PenaVega, Beau Mirchoff, Renee Olstead, John Heard and Sean Patrick Thomas.

"Colin and I agreed that this score needed a contemporary edge, something completely different than anything else we've done before" explains the composer. "Despite being entirely electronic, I approached this film as if I were scoring it with an orchestra using distinct electronic 'sections', colorful effects/textures, and character themes. Since the film is based on The Tell-Tale Heart, we incorporated a heartbeat-like sound into the score which is now a part of Lisa's theme. It appears in various forms and instruments throughout the film and really helps create the drive that we were looking for."

The official soundtrack album, now available on MovieScore Media, also includes the original pop theme song "Deadly Romance", co-written with singer Kathryn Baar (aka SPELLES).

Listen to the song here: [YOUTUBE].

Matthew Llewellyn has been an integral member of Brian Tyler's team working on high profile projects such as Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Now You See Me, The Expendables 2 & 3, and Final Destination 5. As a composer, Llewellyn wrote additional music for Far Cry 3 and John Dies At The End; he also provided musical arrangements for the video games Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. Branching out with his own composing career, Llewellyn has scored several feature films for the Chiller Network, including Dead Souls, and Deep in the Darkness - both of which have been issued by ScreamWorks Records; his yuletide comedy Wishin' and Hopin' is released by MovieScore Media.

Billy Sherwood's CITIZEN on November 6

Frontiers Music Srl will release Billy Sherwood's latest, a concept album called CITIZEN. The album can be pre-ordered at Amazon: radi.al/BillySherwoodAmazon and iTunes: radi.al/BillySherwoodiTunes

Billy Sherwood created this concept album based on a lost soul that is reincarnated into various periods of history. "I was inspired by the notion that General Patton believed he was reincarnated on various battlefields through time; I wanted to take that concept even further." As the songwriter/producer, Billy placed the citizen character into significant moments of history.

The lead off track is called “The Citizen" which sets the stage for what's to come on the recording. “The Citizen” features Billy's longtime friends and members of the legendary Progressive Rock band Yes: bassist Chris Squire and former Yes keyboardist Tony Kaye.

Each song places the Citizen into a unique set of circumstances where decisions are made that have serious personal and global consequences. In the song “No Man's Land" (featuring Deep Purple/Dixie Dregs/Kansas guitarist Steve Morse) the Citizen appears as a World War I trench runner who passes the message along to the troops that it's time to attack; the Citizen remains behind and is, ultimately, the only survivor. “Empire" (with lead vocals by Alan Parsons & violin from Jerry Goodman of the Flock, Dixie Dregs, Mahavishnu Orchestra) finds the Citizen as a conscript legionnaire in the final days of the Roman Empire. “Just Galileo and Me" (sung by Colin Moulding singer/bassist of XTC) shows the Citizen as a protective friend to Galileo, trying to tell the astronomer that he should not tell people that the earth is not flat or he will be labeled as a heretic.

Known as a multi-instrumentalist, Billy performs drums, bass, guitar, keys and sings several of the songs, including “A Theory of its Own” in which the Citizen appears as companion to Charles Darwin on the evolutionist’s maiden voyage. He sings of Native Americans affected by the Indian Removal Act of 1830 in the song, “Trail of Tears,” which features Patrick Moraz on keyboards. Former Genesis guitar player Steve Hackett adds his chops to “Man And The Machine,” which is about an assembly line worker and activist in the late 1890s. "Age Of The Atom” is about the creation of the Atomic Bomb and the questions of morality as a result of it; this features Geoff Downes on keyboards. Dream Theater keyboardist Jordan Rudess appears on “Escape Velocity,” a song that speaks to the political implications of the space race in the 1960s.

In “The Great Depression,” Billy's songwriter’s pen draws pain from the heart of a distraught Wall Street investor, who has lost everything in the stock market, and steps out to make a final step off the ledge. Rick Wakeman plays grand piano and other keyboards on this one. Finally, in CITIZEN’s 11th song, “Written In The Centuries,” performed by current Yes singer Jon Davison, Nostradamus is the Citizen busily composing his many predictions.

Billy Sherwood was recently handpicked by Chris Squire to fill in for him on bass and vocals in Yes, before he left for cancer treatment and ultimately, his untimely death. Billy started his career in the band Lodgic and then as a member of World Trade, who have two critically-acclaimed albums. He has produced and engineered for many artists including John Wetton, Motorhead, Queensryche, Paul Rodgers, and Yes. He joined Yes first as touring member on the “Talk” tour in 1994, and was a full time member from 1997 to 1999. He recorded two albums with Chris Squire as the “Conspiracy” project and released six albums with Circa, the band he formed with Tony Kaye.

CITIZEN is Billy’s eighth album of new material, though he sees this as a group effort, "While I've created a lot of this record myself I couldn't have done it without the amazing talents brought to bear by all the great artists who participated. So I feel it's much more of a collective effort than a solo album. It's my desire to take this production onto the stage and some of these amazing artists can help bring this concept to life.”
