MSM/Kronos: The Little Wizard by Marc Timón Barce ló and Miguel Cordeiro

The Little Wizard
Music by Marc Timón Barce ló and Miguel Cordeiro

CD EDITION: Kronos Records

DIGITAL: MovieScore Media

Directed by Roque Cameselle, the film tells the story of Bieito Dubidoso, the titular little wizard who uses his powers to save his father's life from the Normans. The evil Bishop Juan feels that the boy has dark powers and does everything to get rid of Bieito and his friend, Destreza. The Little Wizard premiered at the San Sebastian International Film Festival in September and gets its Spanish theatrical release on November 15.

The music for The Little Wizard was written by Spanish composers Marc Timón Barceló and Miguel Cordeiro who provided a John-Williams inspired animated adventure score with many memorable themes and several recurring leitmotives. The score has been nominated for the Jerry Goldsmith Award at the International Film Music Festival as well as the Spanish Film Music Critics Award.

The music for The Little Wizard was written in about two months before the score was recorded in Bulgaria. Composer Marc Timón recalls the recording experience: "Hearing and conducting your own music so well performed is the best gift that you can receive as a composer. More than a year later it’s nice to see that our efforts had a point and all that stress we felt back than has been converted into beautiful music we can all enjoy."

5/5 Sometimes you can say "save the best for last" and this is the case in this score "The Little Wizard" is a big player in great scores for 2013. I think efforts made here to create a magical moving score were a complete success, composers  Marc Timón Barce ló and Miguel Cordeiro created a wonderful piece. Bravo to them and future releases from them, thank you for making it epic!

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug [2013] - Howard Shore

Featuring Original Music by Howard Shore

With An Original Song I See Fire Performed by
GRAMMY Nominated Singer-Songwriter Ed Sheeran
2 CD Special Edition Soundtrack Also Available

(November 5, 2013 – Los Angeles, CA) – WaterTower Music today announced details of the soundtrack to “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug,” a production of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures (MGM), the second in a trilogy of films by Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien. The soundtrack will be released on December 10, 2013, three days before the December 13 release of the film, and will be available both digitally and as a 2 CD set. A Special Edition soundtrack, featuring twelve extended tracks, a bonus track, expanded liner notes and interactive sheet music will also be available. Fans will be able to preorder the album at both iTunes and Amazon on November 5.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Original Motion Picture Soundtrack features the music of Howard Shore, one of film music’s most respected, honored, and active composers and conductors. "I’m looking forward to introducing you to Smaug," exclaimed Shore, who previously worked with director Peter Jackson on The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and on The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

Jackson added, "Howard Shore's music soars and enriches way beyond its connection to our images, a unique sound like no other. He truly has created an epic musical world of his own. "

Shore’s music for The Lord of the Rings Trilogy has been performed in numerous concerts internationally. In 2003 he conducted the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in the world premiere of The Lord of the Rings Symphony in Wellington, New Zealand. Since then, the work has been performed nearly 300 times by the world’s most prestigious orchestras, and has been the subject of a book, The Music of The Lord of the Rings Films: A Comprehensive Account of Howard Shore's Scores.

Howard Shore’s music for The Lord of the Rings Trilogy stands as his most towering achievement to date, garnering three Academy Awards® for his music for those films, two for Best Original Score, and one for Best Original Song. Shore has also won numerous other honors for his film work, including four Grammys and three Golden Globe Awards, the Career Achievement for Music Composition Award from the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures, New York Chapter’s Recording Academy Honors, ASCAP’s Henry Mancini Award, the Frederick Loewe Award and the Max Steiner Award from the city of Vienna. He holds honorary doctorates from Berklee College of Music and York University, and is an Officier de l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres de la France and the recipient of the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award in Canada.
Included on the soundtrack is I See Fire, a new song created for the film by Ed Sheeran, the 22-year old British singer/songwriter and multi-platinum global phenomenon who was nominated in the prestigious “Song of the Year” category at this year’s 55th Annual Grammy Awards. Sheeran is also a two-time BRIT Award winner and recipient of the highly esteemed Ivor Novello award for best song musically and lyrically in the UK." “It was such an honor working with Peter Jackson on this song," Sheeran says. "Not only is he one of my favorite directors of my favorite films, The Hobbit was the first book I ever read as a child, so it means a lot that I get to produce music for the motion picture.”

Elaborating on the collaboration with Jackson, as well as filmmakers Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, Sheeran stated, “I was allowed complete freedom to create what I thought was fitting for the film, which is very rare, and Peter, Fran and Philippa were always on hand to give notes and pointers. The entire team down in New Zealand was out of this world. The film is amazing, I'm still geeking out that I've done a song for a Peter Jackson film set in Middle-earth!”

"Ed Sheeran is a true Tolkien fan, and also happens to be a brilliant singer-songwriter,” offered Peter Jackson. I See Fire is Ed's emotional response to the film. It's perfect."

“It is an honor to once again work with the tremendous Howard Shore, who has created the musical voice of Peter Jackson’s iconic The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings films from the beginning,” stated WaterTower Music head Jason Linn. “And we are thrilled that the stars aligned for this collaboration with Ed Sheeran and his truly inspired original song for our soundtrack. WaterTower anticipates another exciting and successful soundtrack journey with these two exceptional musicians.”

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Original Motion Picture Soundtrack will be released on December 10, 2013.

Sparks & Shadows: WORLD OF STEAM: CLOCKWORK HEART - Bear McCreary

Original Music by Emmy Award®-Winning Composer Bear McCreary for the Steampunk Web Series

(November 18, 2013 – Culver City, CA) Sparks & Shadows, the boutique record label founded by composer Bear McCreary, announces the release of THE WORLD OF STEAM: THE CLOCKWORK HEART a digital EP on November 20th, featuring 12 plus minutes of music composed by McCreary for the pilot episode of the series, “The Clockwork Heart.”  THE WORLD OF STEAM is a set of Twilight Zone-like episodes set in a Steampunk universe.

“With my intense workload this year, I never thought I'd have the time to take on a new web-series.  However, after one look at Matt Yang King's short The Clockwork Heart, I knew immediately I had to be involved,” said McCreary.  “The elegant story and innovative steampunk visual aesthetic alone would have hooked me. It was the film's reliance on musical storytelling that made it especially appealing. Here was a rare opportunity for lyrical scoring where the music would be at the forefront. I was hooked.”

Recent Emmy Award® winner for Da Vinci’s Demons, McCreary’s current workload includes the new series Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – which was the #1 debut of the 2013 fall season with 11.9 million viewers.  Together with the fourth season debut of The Walking Dead, shattering records with 16.1 million viewers for its season debut, that means that McCreary had the #1 new show and the #1 returning show in 2013.  McCreary’s current projects also include the second season of Da Vinci’s Demons, the Syfy series Defiance, and the 2014 debut of Black Sails on STARZ, which will team McCreary once again with Jonathan Steinberg, whom he previously worked with on Human Target.

THE WORLD OF STEAM is a new anthology webseries that has set the record for the highest funded pilot for a webseries ever on Kickstarter.  Featured in Wired, Buzzfeed, Whedonesque and Paste Magazines as well as endorsed by Grant Imahara (Mythbusters), Felicia Day (The Guild) and Maurissa Tancharoen (Dr. Horrible), THE WORLD OF STEAM sets out to explore the deep recesses of a Steampunk world. Drama, Comedy, Horror, Science Fiction and Fantasy are all explored against the backdrop of an alternate Victorian Age.

THE WORLD OF STEAM embraces the dual ambitious goals of bringing complex stories with deep characters to life, as well as creating a new series hearkening back to old anthologies like The Twilight Zone, Amazing Stories, Tales From the Darkside, and Jim Henson's Storyteller Series. The World of Steam peers through the keyhole of our existence into a strange new world on the other side.

Featuring the talents of Matt Yang King (24, David E. Kelley's new show Monday Mornings, and winner of theCAPE/Hollywood Foreign Press Young Screenwriters Award), Lisa Lassek (Editor: The Cabin in the Woods, Avengers), Thomas Surprenant (Emmy: Makeup FX - Star Trek), and Bear McCreary (Composer: The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica).  The first season of THE WORLD OF STEAM will also feature the acting talents of Catherine Taber (Star Wars: Clone Wars), Phil Lamarr (Futurama), Josh Coxx (Thor) and Kevin McKidd (Grey's Anatomy).

Sparks & Shadows presents THE WORLD OF STEAM: THE CLOCKWORK HEART EP,, available digitally on November 20, 2013

Other releases from Sparks & Shadows include McCreary's soundtracks the series Da Vinci’s Demons (featuring the Emmy® Award winning title theme), Europa Report, and the upcoming releases Defiance-Deluxe Edition and the soundtrack for Knights of Badassdom.

The Gipsy Kings' 25th Anniversary U.S. Tour, January 17-25

The Gipsy Kings' 25th Anniversary U.S. Tour
January 17-25, 2014

(Leading World Music Band Returns to the USA to Kick Off 25 Year Celebration and are available for interviews in advance of tour)

The Gipsy Kings will be kicking off their 25th Anniversary in support of the group's new album SAVOR FLAMENCO on Knitting Factory Records, with dates starting on the East Coast in January 2014. SAVOR FLAMENCO is the group's first new release in six years. The project marks The Gipsy Kings' 25th Anniversary of their first U.S. Release, GIPSY KINGS in 1987. It is also the first time in the group's storied career that the Kings have produced themselves and written all of their material.

Please stay tuned to the band's web site for more show dates.

Based on Camargue, the very famous land by the Mediterranean Sea, the Gipsy Kings are made up of two families--the Reyes family from Arles and the Baliardos from Montpellier. The musical adventure of these two families started in the 1960s when Jose Reyes was singing with Manitas de Plata (Ricardo Baliardo) performing all around the world in theaters including Carnegie Hall in New York City. There is music by Manitas de Plata y Jose Reyes on youtube. Their fans included Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, Miles Davis and Charlie Chaplin.

When the duo parted ways, Jose Reyes became even more popular after starting his own band, Los Reyes. His sons backed him up. When the elder Reyes passed away in 1979, Nicolas and Andre began playing with the Baliardo brothers in Les Saintes Maries de la Mer during the The Gypsy's Pilgrimage. They traveled, busking nearby on the streets of Saint-Tropez, performing on beaches during the day and for celebrities such as Brigitte Bardot by night. "Los Reyes" means "The Kings," and the band changed their name to The Gipsy Kings.

The Gipsy Kings' musical style has been called "Rumba Flamenca" which allows The Gipsy Kings to combine traditional flamenco styles with Western Pop and Latin rhythms, Latin and Cuban styles, Arabic, reggae, jazz, and--of course--gypsy styles!

The band speaks French, and performs music in Spanish dialect of Gitane, the native Gipsy language, that is a mixture of Spanish, French, and Catalan. The root of the Gitane culture is in the southern part of Spain that includes Seville and Granada. One of the economically depressed areas of Europe, this region has given the world flamenco music, bullfighting and Moorish-influenced Architecture. The people in that area are known as "Gitanos," Spanish Romani people who fled Catalonia during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). (The term "gitano" comes from "Egiptano," a Spanish term for "Egyptian" as the English word "Gypsy" comes from "Egyptian.")

The Gipsy Kings have sold over 25 million albums worldwide.

The Gipsy Kings' first U.S. album, GIPSY KINGS was released in the United States in 1987, and charted for 40 weeks. This 25 year old album has been certified gold or platinum in at least 15 countries. The group is a multi-GRAMMY-nominated act.

The single from GIPSY KINGS was "Bamboleo," which was used in a Burger King commercial and recently covered on the TV show, GLEE.

The Gipsy Kings' "Hotel California" is in the movie, THE BIG LEBOWSKI and HBO series ENTOURAGE.

The 2010 film TOY STORY 3 featured a Gipsy Kings version of the movie's popular, Randy Newman-penned theme, "You've Got a Friend in Me." The band also performed the song on DANCING WITH THE STARS.

PBS filmed a documentary about The Gipsy Kings called TIERRA GITANA.

Inside Llewyn Davis celebrated John Goodman

Inside Llewyn Davis celebrated John Goodman with a handprint-footprint ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles on Novemeber 14, 2013
The TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX® handprint-footprint ceremony is rich in tradition and provides its four million-plus annual visitors an opportunity to experience the lore of Hollywood up close. Movie exhibitor Sid Grauman, who was one of Hollywood’s best known and most creative showmen, opened The Chinese in 1927 and launched the handprint-footprint ceremony a year later.  The TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX® was declared a historic-cultural landmark in 1968 and in 2013, the main theatre was re-launched as the world’s largest IMAX® theatre.

INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS follows a week in the life of a young folk singer as he navigates the Greenwich Village folk scene of 1961.

LLEWYN DAVIS (OSCAR ISAAC) is at a crossroads.  Guitar in tow, huddled against the unforgiving New York winter, he is struggling to make it as a musician against seemingly insurmountable obstacles—some of them of his own making.  Living at the mercy of both friends and strangers, scaring up what work he can find, Llewyn’s misadventures take him from the baskethouses of the Village to an empty Chicago club—on an odyssey to audition for a music mogul —and back again.

Brimming with music performed by Isaac, Justin Timberlake and Carey Mulligan (as Llewyn’s married Village friends), as well as Marcus Mumford and Punch Brothers, INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS—in the tradition of O Brother, Where Art Thou?—is infused with the transportive sound of another time and place. An epic on an intimate scale, it represents the Coen Brothers’ fourth collaboration with multiple-Grammy® and Academy Award®-winning music producer T Bone Burnett. Marcus Mumford is associate music producer.

Jeremy H.

I give you the talented Jann Klose... enjoy!

From your new release "MOSAIC" what song do you feel represents you and your life, that when you think that is me my song?

Jann Klose: Well, all of them do... even SONG TO THE SIREN which I didn't write... That's a Tim Buckley composition to the brilliant poetry of Larry Beckett who I just started writing with after spending some time with him in Portland, Oregon and performing there together. I'm also very proud of songs like ON AND ON and FOUR LEAF CLOVER because I think they convey my state of mind at the time of writing clearly.

With all the influences you could draw from, where did you find your inspiration for this album and which track do you think you can hear the strongest of that inspiration?

Jann Klose: The inspiration comes from living. Every day my life changes a bit, mainly because I travel a lot and get to absorb the many vignettes life has to offer on a day to day basis. The opening track, MAKE IT BETTER to me is a big part of that because I wrote about politics more than I have ever before. I think I'm allowing myself to be more reflective on external influences on that one. Yael Shulman directed the new music video for MAKE IT BETTER which is available after Sept 18th!

You are part of the film "GREETINGS FROM TIM BUCKLEY." Could you share how you became involved and how was the experience for you personally?

Jann Klose: I got cast as the voice of Tim after Gary Lucas recommended me for the part. It was quite exhilarating to do. Besides being a big fan of both Tim's and Jeff's music the whole thing happened very quickly, within days... i totally immersed myself in Tim's songs for a few days, listening to nothing else.

Do you find that the world shift towards more digital than Compact Disc is easier for you to find a larger audience to you and your music?

Jann Klose: Well, I think it's made it harder and easier... You've got the loss of 50% of all music sales in the last decade on the one hand and the ability to reach anyone, anywhere on the other. I think the new model is starting to take shape but we've got a ways to go before there's anything anyone would consider a "norm" of sorts.

What is the strongest feeling that people will take away from your release "MOSAIC"?

Jann Klose: Hopefully to hit repeat at the end :)

Between your release "MOSAIC" and your place in the film "GREETINGS FROM TIM BUCKLEY," which is more rewarding and would you classify 2013 to be a great year?

Jann Klose: A great year it's been indeed. Seeing both my album and the movie do well and gain traction is amazing. My team and I put in a lot of hours and work very hard. We also have a real love for music and I think it shows.

Intrada: The Thanksgiving Promise [1986] - Bruce Broughton

Music Composed and Conducted by BRUCE BROUGHTON
INTRADA Special Collection Vol. 252

Bruce Broughton’s traditional Americana take for the 1986 Walt Disney television film The Thanksgiving Promise isn’t concerned with an America of spacious skies, amber waves of grain or purple mountain majesties, but one of dusty backwoods roads, clear-water swimming holes and weathered painted barns. It’s the quiet, small-town America of hay rides, costumed fairs and broken-down pickup trucks. Broughton assembled an orchestra consisting of strings, woodwinds, guitars, dulcimer, recorder, keyboards, harmonica, vibraphone and light percussion, displaying the composer's passion for the Americana idiom.

Broughton recorded his music at the Disney Studios scoring stage with his engineer of choice, Armin Steiner. The complete score was recorded and mixed onto three rolls of two-channel stereo tape and vaulted in pristine condition waiting for the day Intrada arrived to assemble it onto an album and present the premiere of this heart-felt Bruce Broughton score.

Beau Bridges directs and stars as Hank Tilby, a simple farmer trying to raise his family, eke out a living and stay out of debt. The story centers on 12-year-old Travis (Jordan Bridges), a loner looking to make his mark. When neighbor Stu Larson (Lloyd Bridges) finds a wounded Canadian gosling, he pays Travis twenty dollars to feed the bird and deliver it six weeks later, slaughtered and dressed, for the Larson’s Thanksgiving meal. Travis becomes attached to the bird and tries to save it from the chopping block, but Hank is determined to teach his son a lesson in keeping his word, even at the expense of the bird’s life.

Intrada: Prancer [1989] - Maurice Jarre

Music Composed and Conducted by MAURICE JARRE
INTRADA Special Collection Vol. 259

When composer Maurice Jarre was hired to score the elements of magic, childhood, and Christmastime in the 1989 MGM film Prancer, he rose to the challenge with panache. Jarre uses colors that capture the tone and almost storybook-like elements of the film, prominently featuring the EWI (electronic wind instrument) which becomes the main solo wind voice—often representing the magical, otherworldly presence of the eponymous reindeer. Another featured color is the Celtic harp, which gives the score rustic warmth -- a sound both ancient and intimate, and Jarre used it to perform the score’s main themes solo or to provide little embellishments. The rest of the palette is comprised of solo piano, strings, and synthesizers, blending together to form a musical character both contemporary and timeless — and thoroughly Jarre.  Almost the entire score plays in major keys and reflects the beauty and warmth of the Christmas spirit. The composer wrote two main themes for the film. One is for Prancer: a gliding, lyrical melody that rises and rises in its first half, then gradually falls, alighting on a series of descending chords. The other central theme is for the loving bond that develops between Jessie and Prancer.

To present this premiere CD release, Intrada was fortunate to locate the original stereo session mixes made onto DAT, and presented here just in time for the Christmas holiday.

With her mother dead and her father (Sam Elliott) in a constant state of anxiety over the future of the family apple farm, Jessie (Rebecca Harrell) looks for hope and miracles in the Christmas season and particularly in Santa’s flying reindeer. Soon after her small town’s decorative Prancer falls off its wire and gets run over by a car, Jessie and her father discover a real wounded reindeer in the woods. Jessie hides what she thinks is the genuine Prancer from her shotgun-wielding father and nurses the animal back to health. The town eventually discovers her yuletide secret—which she hopes to return to Santa on Christmas Eve. Her sunny faith and innocence bring warmth back into the life of a resident crank (Cloris Leachman) and, eventually, her own home.

Movie Score Media/Kronos Records: 4 New CD's - Nov. 2013

Nominated for the Jerry Goldsmith Award at the International Film Music Festival in Cordoba as well as the Spanish Film Music Critics Award, the original orchestral score for the Spanish family animation The Little Wizard is a truly outstanding and impressive achievement by up and coming composers Marc Timón Barceló and Miguel Cordeiro.

Any fan of big, classical and thematic film music will love this score which features a striking main theme in waltz meter, many exciting action scherzos and an abundance of engaging melodic writing. Purely orchestral with additional choral colours in places, this score deservers an international audience although the film itself has only been released in Spain so far. The film premiered at the San Sebastian International Film Festival in September and gets its theatrical release in Spain on November 15.

LAST PASSENGER

Coinciding with the theatrical release of the film in United Kingdom, MovieScore Media and Kronos Records releases Irish composer Liam Bates’ high-octane action score for Last Passenger, an intense genre movie taking place on a speeding London commuter train. Influenced by some of the most stylish and effective of Jerry Goldsmith’s action scores from the 1970s and 1980s, Bates has composed a truly exciting, dark and interesting orchestral score that will attract fans of classic action film scoring. Director Omid Nooshin wanted a score “unrepentantly musical and expressive, a throwback to a bygone era of thrillers which inspired my movie in the first place.” Hence, the orchestrations features an emphasis on brass and percussion with a lot of agitato string writing in the rhythmic writing, juxtaposed by reflective melodic themes.

Film music surprise of the year?

Featuring a highly energetic and exciting action score composed by Canadian composer James Gelfand, Exploding Sun is a sci-fi movie about the catastrophic consequences of a hyperactive sun. This is yet another example of a low budget television score of a quality that both adds production value to the film itself and is an exciting listening experience on its own. Canadian composer James Gelfand, whose other credits include Cyberbully and Swamp Devil, pulls out all the stops to create an intense listening experience with tense harmonies and driving percussion but also uplifting themes and more reflective work.

EXCITING ACTION SCORE FROM THE SCI-FI THRILLER STARRING JULIA ORMOND (Witches of East End, Mad Men, The East) DAVID JAMES ELLIOTT (JAG, GCB, Melrose Place) AND ANTHONY LEMKE (White House Down, Witches of East End, American Psycho)

Directed by newcomer Pierre Monard, Recycling Lily is a romantic comedy about a meticulous  garbage inspector who falls in love with the mother of a notorious litterer - an unusual story which is boosted by a warm and very impressive soundtrack composed by Philipp Schweidler and Mortiz Schneider, beautifully orchestrated by Robin Hoffmann. Imagine Fellini meeting Tarantino and you have the main ingredients of the score where influences of Nino Rota are juxtaposed by surf rock guitars Morricone style. The orchestral music has a lightness, beauty and charm that is reflected in the main theme (a whimsical waltz) but also in the more emotionally charged pieces such as “Emma Falling” and “Fat and Lonely”. The entertaining soundtrack also features the up-beat song “Nobody’s Perfect” featuring William White which sums up the film perfectly.

Decca Records: QUEEN OF CARTHAGE - Brian Byrne

(October 22, 2013– Los Angeles, CA) – Decca Records has released the QUEEN OF CARTHAGE – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack via iTunes.  The soundtrack features the original score composed by Brian Byrne (ALBERT NOBBS), who also composed the music for the worldwide production from the producers of Riverdance HEARTBEAT OF HOME.  In addition to the original score, Byrne wrote the haunting end title track “Waltz With Me Under The Sun,” performed by Kristina Train.  Also featured on the album is “Dido’s Lament,” performed by Danielle DeNiese.

“Kristina Train is probably one of the finest young singers around just now. Although she's has youth on her side she sounds like a classic soul voice that always was,” said Byrne. “The score is mostly based on the melody for the song ‘Waltz With Me Under the Sun’. That was the first thing I wrote for the film and it just seemed to work as a theme throughout.”  Byrne’s wife Kasey wrote the song’s lyrics.

QUEEN OF CARTHAGE stars Shiloh Fernandez (who also co-wrote the screenplay) and Oscar nominated actress Keisha Castle-Hughes. The film follows an American Drifter discovers a New Zealand Singer and develops and obsession for him. The soundtrack features the RTE Concert Orchestra, Kristina Train and Danielle DeNiese.

Silva Screen Records: Luther [2013] - Paul Englishby and More!

Release date: November 5, 2013

Launched in 2010, Luther has fast become one of the BBC's most popular crime series with Idris Elba in the title role as a dedicated but obsessive police officer. With its mysterious theme, Paradise Circus by Massive Attack opening each episode the series also utilises a play-out track that fits the atmosphere of the story. This release features many of these outstanding songs including music from Robert Plant, Suede, Marilyn Manson, and Nina Simone.

Composer Paul Englishby provides the score for the series with music that can range from darkly menacing soundscapes to elegiac dreaminess. His career spans film, TV, theatre, dance and concert hall. He received an Emmy Award for his adroit jazz score to David Hare's TV production Page Eight (also Ivor Novello Award nominated). He also scored the acclaimed John Hurt, Quentin Crisp drama An Englishman In New York. Film highlights include An Education, Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day and Magicians.

As a special bonus, the little-known Kasabian track Black Whistler (previously only available on the single for Empire) makes its album debut here. Always considered to have the 'Luther' vibe, it was never used in the show but is included here at Idris Elba's request.
