Cheezy Flicks Never Lets Us Down!

Black Sabbath [1963]
The most gruesome day in the calendar!

Not since "Frankenstein" have you seen such horror! This trio of atmospheric horror tales start with: II Telefono (The Telephone). A woman terrorized in her apartment by phone calls from an escaped prisoner from her past. I Wurdulak - Vladimire d'Urfe (The Wurdulak) starring Boris Karloff who plays a Russian count in the early 1800's who stumbles upon a family in the countryside trying to destroy a particularly vicious line of vampires. And a 1900-era nurse who makes a fateful decision while preparing the corpse of one of her patients. La Goccia d'Acqua (The Drop of Water) an elderly medium who died during a seance.

A story that goes beyond the boundaries of the supernatural to the half-world of the living dead. Where a woman's soul inhabits a fly's body, where vengeance is only a voice, and vampires suck only the blood of those they love the dearest.

Evil Spirits [1990]
Scary, Disturbing, Frightening, Bloody Fun!

A dark comedy thriller that manages to skillfully blend humor and mystery into one incredible entertainment film from its thrilling beginning to the shocking climax! The superb all-star cast is a unique collection of characters who find themselves with one very special thing in common, they are all boarders of Mrs. Ella Purdy and totally dependent upon he gracious nature. The suspense mounts as, one by one, they fall sacrifice to ominous secrets enshrined within the walls of her foreboding house! Murder and mayhem prevail throughout the tense but often humorous situations encountered by the inhabitants as each victim draws nearer to his fate.

Cheezy Flicks Entertainment Presents Evil Spirits - Starring KAREN BLACK, ARTE JOHNSON, MICHAEL BERRYMAN, VIRGINA MAYO, MARTINE BESWICKE and BERT REMSEN Written by MIKEL ANGLE, Produced by SIDNEY NIEKERK AND Directed by GARY GRAVER

Sony Music: Carrie [2013] - Marco Beltrami

Carrie White is a shy outcast at high school and has been sheltered by her deeply religious mother. When Carrie is pushed too far at her senior prom, she unleashes telekinetic terror on the entire town.

A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz), a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Julianne Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom. Based on the best-selling novel by Stephen King, Carrie is directed by Kimberly Peirce with a screenplay by Lawrence D. Cohen and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

The official soundtrack for Carrie is now available on iTunes and Amazon!

One of the best horror scores this Halloween and composed by no stranger to horror composer Beltrami who has scarred us for years with his works. Want to be scared? Want a great score? Look no further than Sony Music's score composed by Marco Beltrami "CARRIE", she will rip your heart out... figuratively speaking of course.

Salem Witch Trials / Salvage / Mortuary

SALEM WITCH TRIALS
Salem, Massachusetts. A small town—with no clear governing body—became embroiled in a scandal that forever stands as one of the darkest chapters in American history. For those accused of witchcraft by their neighbors and friends, there was little chance of clearing their names; the mass paranoia that ravaged through the community took the lives of 19 innocent men and women. With an all-star cast of Kirstie Alley, Rebecca De Mornay, Kristin Booth, Shirley MacLaine, Peter Ustinov and Alan Bates, Salem Witch Trials dramatically revisits 1692 colonial America and the haunting legacy it holds.

SALVAGE
Claire Parker is going to die. At the hands of a sadistic and depraved killer, she will endure a terrifying, unimaginably brutal death—and it will all happen again. After being beaten, dragged, sliced, and stabbed, Claire awakens at work—where it all began—untouched and unharmed. But the hellish ordeal is far from over. The madman is back and he's ready for more blood…

MORTUARY
In the small town of Santa Loraina, California, the decrepit, long-abandoned Fowler Funeral Home has become a local legend. As the story has it, Zeb Fowler bought the land to start up a ranching business, but something killed off all the cattle. To make ends meet, Zeb became the town mortician, and the Fowler house was turned into a funeral home—complete with a cemetery for a yard. But the strangest part of the story is the Fowler's son Bobby, whose face was so hideously disfigured it was hidden beneath a burial shroud. At age eight, Bobby mysteriously vanished, and ten years later his parents were found murdered—their faces smashed in. Locals believe that Bobby is still alive.

Today, the Fowler Funeral Home is the stuff nightmares are made of—backed-up sewage pooling in the yard, a house of filth, decay, coffins, embalming equipment, and a strange black fungus growing on everything—and now the Doyle family is moving in.

Having recently lost her husband, Leslie Doyle (Denise Crosby) is relocating her two children, Jonathan (Dan Byrd) and Jamie (Stephanie Patton), to Santa Loraina so she can become the town's new mortician. But the Doyles have no idea of the horror that they're in for. Soon they'll uncover what happened to the Fowlers—what evil inhabits the grounds of their estate and what happens to anyone who steps foot there…

La-La Land Records: NBC'S GRIMM [SEASONS I and II] - Richard Marvin

LA-LA LAND RECORDS PRESENTS:
NBC'S GRIMM [SEASONS I and II]

La-La Land Records will release the GRIMM Music From Season One and Two – Original Television Soundtrack on Tuesday, October 22, 2013. The album features original music from the first two seasons of the series, composed by Richard Marvin (In Treatment, Six Feet Under).

GRIMM is a drama series inspired by the classic Grimm Brothers’ Fairy Tales. After Portland Homicide Detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli) discovers he’s descended from an elite line of criminal profilers known as ”Grimms,” he increasingly finds his responsibilities as a detective at odds with his new responsibilities as a ”Grimm.”

The show is part fairy tale, part police procedural and requires a good amount of original music for each weekly episode.  “I’m really trying to score the show in a cinematic way like a movie,” he described.  “I’ve always thought that the success of any good show if the long story arc that runs from episode to episode, and that should be the principal part of the score.”

He explained, “Every episode contains themes that I have written for a lot of the show’s characters.  There is also usually a theme for the creature that is featured in the episode. Then there is an Aunt Marie theme, a search in the woods theme, an Adalind theme, a five families/Renard theme and several Nick and Juliette themes.  Most of the instrumentation is based on solo strings, mostly solo cello.”

GRIMM airs on NBC, returning on October 25th for its third season.  The GRIMM Music From Season One and Two – Original Television Soundtrack on La-La Land Records will be available at www.lalalandrecords.com and other retailers on October 22, 2013.

I went to my mailbox and there it was, Grimm-grinning at me... I was thrilled and shocked to see it, I am loving it... just in time for the Halloween Madness. Thank you, yeah... I know you are jealous!

Perseverance Records: Thief (Deluxe Edition) - Tangerine Dream

Perseverance Records is proud to announce the reissue of the soundtrack to the Michael Mann thriller, Thief.

The first 50 CDs will signed by Chris Franke and Craig Safan!!

Thief was Michael Mann’s directorial debut. The film featured James Caan as a professional safecracker who agrees to do a job for the mafia. Many consider this film to be James Caan’s best role to date. Also starring Tuesday Weld, James Belushi, Willie Nelson, Dennis Farina and a number of professional thieves as well as police in supporting roles, the film is now a classic of the 1980s.

Scored by Tangerine Dream, it has become one of their signature film scores. Multiple versions of the score have been released over the years. Our release contains both Confrontation and Beach Scene, depending on what previous version of the LP or CD was sold, either of which were left off of previous reissues. In our opinion, this is one of the best electronic scores of the 1980s, and we are happy to bring it back with a limited edition run of 4,000 units. Many missed out on the last reissue, so we are happy to be offering this with the proper track list.

Sparks & Shadows: DA VINCI’S DEMONS [2CD] COLLECTOR’S EDITION - Bear McCreary

SPARKS and SHADOWS TO RELEASE
DA VINCI’S DEMONS SOUNDTRACK in a 2-CD COLLECTOR’S EDITION

Featuring Bear McCreary’s Emmy® Award-Winning Main Title Theme
And Over 30 Minutes of Unreleased Music

(October 15, 2013 – Culver City, CA) Sparks & Shadows is proud to announce the release of the DA VINCI’S DEMONS SOUNDTRACK (COLLECTOR’S EDITION) on October 22, 2013.  The 2-CD set features Bear McCreary’s Emmy® Award-winning theme along with over 30 minutes of bonus music from the hit STARZ series, not included on the digital soundtrack album, released in May.

“When it came time to find a composer for DA VINCI’S DEMONS, Bear was an obvious choice,” says series creator David S. Goyer.  “I wanted anti-period music for Da Vinci. Meaning, I didn’t want something that sounded like Richard Lester’s Three Musketeers. I wanted Bear to change things up – to use contemporary sounds and instruments as well as period ones.  Bear didn’t disappoint. When Bear played me his demo for the main title theme, I was blown away.”

McCreary earned his first Emmy Award for the DA VINCI’S DEMONS Main Title.   “When I first played [Goyer] my mock-up, he gave me the greatest feedback a producer can bestow upon a composer: ‘That’s it? It’s too short.  It stops right when it gets good!’”  To accommodate this, Goyer did something that a director hardly ever does.  “He re-cut the pilot episode to extend the Main Title Theme long enough for me to make a satisfying, musical statement.”

“For me, the score is one of the most – if not the most – important element of a film’s final cut. Done right, it is the ultimate representation of a piece’s ambitions, whilst still remaining ambiguous enough to not overwhelm the listener with its message; both invisible when attached to the scenes it’s scoring, yet beautifully all-consuming when released from the images it originally accompanied; instantly evoking emotions in viewers that may be buried layers-deep within a scene, whilst at the same time managing to highlight and refine the elements at its surface,” said series star Tom Riley.  “Bear McCreary’s season one score for DA VINCI’S DEMONS not only meets all those expectations, but surpasses them, flips them on their head, and at times pulls their pants down and runs away laughing.”

McCreary’s sweeping orchestral score for DA VINCI’S DEMONS was meticulously researched to accurately represent the time period, without being bound to it.  His score combines full orchestra, Renaissance instrumentation, choir and ethnic soloists with the renowned Calder Quartet and surging contemporary synthesis.

“In a weird way, even though I’m doing stuff that is done with Renaissance instruments, this is the most stylized show I’ve ever worked on,” said McCreary.

Bear McCreary’s unique combination of atypical instrumental background (he is a professional accordionist) with rigorous classical training prepared him to compose for disparate genres.  By the age of 24, McCreary was launched into pop culture history with his groundbreaking score to Syfy’s hit series Battlestar Galactica, for which he composed “the most innovative music on TV today” (Variety). It “fits the action so perfectly, it’s almost devastating: a sci-fi score like no other” (NPR).  Io9.com declared Bear McCreary one of the Ten Best Science Fiction Composers of all time, listing him alongside legends John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith and Bernard Herrmann, and WIRED Magazine called McCreary a “Secret Weapon.”

This fall McCreary’s music can be heard on the new series Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. McCreary continues to write for the television show The Walking Dead.  Recently he lent his talents to Syfy and Trion World’s groundbreaking entertainment experience, Defiance, a combined launch of a MMO videogame. His film projects include Europa Report and Knights of Badassdom.  His other credits include critically acclaimed scores for series such as Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Eureka, Human Target, and The Cape. His videogame credits include SOCOM 4 and Dark Void.

Sparks & Shadows presents the DA VINCI’S DEMONS 2-CD collection available on October 22, 2013.  The first 360 people who purchase the set through www.lalalandrecords.com on October 22nd will receive their set autographed by McCreary.

Also available from Sparks & Shadows are the soundtracks of The Europa Report and Defiance (video game) and Defiance (TV series).

This is one his best works, though everything Bear creates is a masterpiece and act fast for a autographed edition.

Intrada: SALEM'S LOT [2CD] - Harry Sukman

SALEM'S LOT
Music Composed and Conducted by HARRY SUKMAN
INTRADA Special Collection Vol. 256

World premiere 2-CD release of powerhouse soundtrack by Harry Sukman for sensational TV mini-series from Stephen King vampire novel, directed by Tobe Hooper, starring David Soul, Bonnie Bedelia, James Mason, Lance Kerwin. Sukman writes large orchestra score in equal parts gothic action, dramatic melody, over-the-top horror. Main theme begins in declamatory fashion with powerful fortissimo chords in full orchestra, then launches into dynamic bass trombone ostinato suggesting "Dies Irae" with minor-key French horns in game of tag with trombone. Idea appears sparingly, allowing for abundance of other dramatic ideas, beautiful love theme, frightening action cues. Clever use of pizzicato strings introduces numerous vampire sequences. When score comes to final "Conclusion", Sukman returns with fortissimo chords as producer credit appears on screen, then launches into closing statement of "Dies Irae" ostinato for "End Credits". Composer actually prepared three versions of conclusion, all three appear here. Entire score mixed, presented from pristine condition multi-channel stereo masters vaulted at Warner Bros. Two-disc set also has cues Sukman subsequently re-fashioned for edited feature version of picture. Standing out here is dramatic coda climaxing in powerful fortissimo unison for entire orchestra. Stunning finish to lengthy 99-minute ride! One of the great seventies scores! Harry Sukman conducts. Intrada Special Collection available while quantities and interest remain!

Intrada: BUCK ROGERS IN THE 25TH CENTURY - SEASON ONE (3CD)

BUCK ROGERS IN THE 25TH CENTURY - SEASON ONE
Music Composed and Conducted by
LES BAXTER, JOHNNY HARRIS, STU PHILLIPS, RICHARD LaSALLE
INTRADA Special Collection Vol. 255

Intrada follows its series of Battlestar Galactica albums with the release of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, featuring music from a selection of season one episodes. Unlike Galactica which featured music composed exclusively by Stu Phillips, Rogers relied on a stable of different composers.  While each composer has his own distinctive voice, they all shared a basic understanding that Buck is an old-fashioned hero. He is brave, generous and honorable; always quick to do what is right. He is also suave, funny and fiercely competitive. The series’ humanity and good humor needed to come through in every episode, however intense the action, however cornball the sentiment, and however outlandish the alien trappings. Music played a major role in striking that balance. The scores of Buck Rogers are exciting, funky, tender and strange— but they are never less than fun, and they never lose sight of the hero at the heart of it all.

For this volume, Intrada presents suites from the following episodes on this 3-CD set:

Planet of the Slave Girls (Johnny Harris)
The Plot to Kill a City (Stu Phillips)
Return of the Fighting 69th (Johnny Harris)
    Vegas in Space (Les Baxter)
    Aradala Returns (Johnny Harris)
    Space Rockers (Johnny Harris)
    Unchained Woman (Richard LaSalle)

The album also includes the added bonus of "Jelly Belly," a source dance cue from the pilot The Awakening that fans have been seeking for years.
The scoring sessions were recorded directly onto three-channel stereo tape at the Universal Studios The format music (bumper, main titles and end credits) were more elaborately recorded on full 24-track formats, however. All of these elements, both ½″ and 2″, were housed in the Universal vaults in pristine condition—with the sole exception of the second part of “The Plot to Kill a City,” which was fortuitously preserved by the composer on ¼″ full-track (mono) tape.

Buck Rogers in the 25th Century stars Gil Gerard as Captain William “Buck” Rogers, an astronaut who is frozen in space for more than 500 years before being discovered and revived. He quickly becomes embroiled in a conflict between the Draconian Empire, led by Princess Ardala (Pamela Hensley) and her aide, Kane (Henry Silva in the pilot, Michael Ansara thereafter), and the embattled residents of Earth, represented by Colonel Wilma Deering (Erin Gray) and Dr. Elias Huer (Tim O’Connor). Buck soon finds new purpose as a galactic “wild card,” bringing his unique perspective to dangerous missions on behalf of the Earth Defense Directorate.

“In Buffy, Season 10 is going to be about bringing friendships back together, while in Angel & Faith, relationships are shattered. Magic is starting to come back into the world, but in some surprising ways, like that vampire we saw standing in the sunlight at the end of Season 9,” says Editor in Chief Scott Allie.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 10 is slated for 30 issues, written by Christos Gage and illustrated by Rebekah Issacs, with covers by long time series artist, Steve Morris.

“The Buffyverse community has been wonderfully welcoming to Rebekah and me. It's a tremendous honor for Joss and Dark Horse to trust us with their flagship book, and we are going to do all we can to be worthy of that trust. It's a new season, with new rules...but hopefully the same blend of love, action, horror, humor and creativity that's made Buffy and her Scoobies part of all our families. We hope you'll join us for the ride,” states Christos Gage

Angel & Faith is also slated for a 30 issue run, written by Victor Gischler and illustrated by Will Conrad, with covers by Scott Fischer.

"I was proud and privileged to have a small part in season nine, and I can't express how grateful I am to have an expanded role in season ten.  Buffy the Vampire Slayer remains an iconic television show, and the Dark Horse comics continue that great tradition.  I plan on having a lot of fun." Says Angel & Faith series writer Victor Gischler

“I'm very happy that our Angel & Faith artist has hopped over to Buffy, allowing our Buffy artist to jump over to Serenity. And to make the game of musical chairs complete, the guy who draw the first two Serenity miniseries is back in the loop, taking over Angel & Faith. These are all artists Joss and the writers and I are comfortable working with, and who are cozy with these characters, so it's nice to shake things up a bit while having a lot of confidence in what these artists can do. And I'm so happy to have Will back,” adds Scott Allie.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 10 #1 hits stands March 19th and Angel & Faith Season 10 #1 is on sale April 2nd in comic shops everywhere!

Varese Sarabande: ENDER'S GAME [2013] - Steve Jablonsky

ENDER'S GAME [2013]
Music by: Steve Jablonsky
Released by: Varese Sarabande

Release Date: 10/22/13

In the near future, a hostile alien race called the Formics have attacked Earth. If not for the legendary heroics of International Fleet Commander Mazer Rackham (Ben Kingsley), all would have been lost. In preparation for the next attack, the highly esteemed Colonel Hyrum Graff (Harrison Ford) and the International Military are training only the best young minds to find the future Mazer. Ender Wiggin (Asa Butterfield), a shy but strategically brilliant boy, is recruited to join the elite. Arriving at Battle School, Ender quickly and easily masters increasingly difficult challenges and simulations, distinguishing himself and winning respect amongst his peers. Ender is soon ordained by Graff as the military's next great hope, resulting in his promotion to Command School. Once there, he's trained by Mazer Rackham himself to lead his fellow soldiers into an epic battle that will determine the future of Earth and save the human race.

Composer Steve Jablonsky, veteran of the Transformers franchise, creates the all-new musical world of Ender’s Game. Summit Entertainment will open Ender’s Game nationwide on November 1.

You cannot go wrong with this score as Jablonsky does what he does, bringing an epic feel to a hopefully epic film. There is a action filled score with a tender inside space that will take you on the musical journey you know should be.

LOS ANGELES, CA  -- October 9, 2013 – Back Lot Records will release the soundtrack for Dead in Tombstone, Universal Pictures’ upcoming action/horror feature starring Mickey Rourke on October 15, 2013, it was announced today. The Dead in Tombstone Original Motion Picture Soundtrack features new music by Hybrid, a UK-based electronic music group.

“From the outset, Dead in Tombstone was perhaps a genre of film we hadn't been associated with before,” Hybrid comments. “Director Roel Reine wanted us to deliver a contemporary score for a traditional film with a unique twist and we reveled in the challenge. This film has possibly been the most enjoyable project we have worked on to date which pushed us to re-invent a western score which would hopefully withstand the test of time."

Danny Trejo (Machete), Anthony Michael Hall (The Dark Knight) and Oscar® nominee Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler) star in this fiery, action-packed battle for vengeance. As a ruthless gang overruns a small mining town, they murder their own leader, Guerrero Hernandez (Trejo), in a cold-blooded power grab. Sentenced to eternity in hell, Guerrero finds himself confronted by Satan himself (Rourke), offering a daring proposition: deliver the six souls of his former gang and he will escape damnation. With time running out, he sets out on a brutal rampage to avenge his own death.  Dead in Tombstone will be available early on Digital October 8th as well as Blu-ray™ and DVD October 22nd from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

Interview with Author J. Tonzelli - The End of Summer: Thirteen Tales of Halloween

Interview with Author J. Tonzelli
The End of Summer: Thirteen Tales of Halloween
----------------------------------------------

-What was your inspiration for your new release "The End of Summer: Thirteen Tales of Halloween" and do you listen to music or a score to help flesh out that your ideas?

J. Tonzelli: I've loved Halloween since I was young, and that love has never really gone away - it's just changed forms. As I got older I began to devour any kind of book having to do with Halloween, especially anthologies, but I found so many of them to be a cheat. Not that they were bad - just that they were filled with vampires or aliens and other random scary things, and none of them had anything to do with Halloween. I felt that was a shame, because the origins of Halloween, and all the myths and stories that go along with it, are so interesting and many of them were begging to be explored. I'm not saying my book is the first to do so, but we're a minority in that sea of those other books exploiting the Halloween name. That was the idea behind it.

As for the process, I've never written a single word without listening to music. I can't write in dead silence; it makes me nervous. I have a well-stocked library and something is constantly playing while I write - usually a film score. My go-to composers are usually Clint Mansell and Wojciech Kilar if I'm writing something moody. Hans Zimmer or Atli Örvarsson if I'm writing something big. Definitely Thomas Newman if I'm working on something small or intimate. There are several more straightforward bands I like, too. God is An Astronaut comes to mind. It has to be instrumental. Lyrics get in the way.

-In your life, what is one of the most terrifying thing you have seen, dreamed or experienced... that when someone says something related you get that image in your head?

J. Tonzelli: Not really terrifying, but a while back I went on a random drive with a friend to this area where stories about a ghost boy wandering the road were pretty prevalent (because every town needs a ghost boy story). She said there was a certain remote area in the middle of nowhere that had this really strange energy. I have no idea how she even found out about it, but I love a good late-night drive, so I went along for the hell of it. We turned off this main two-lane highway and went down this dirt road for a long while, and we were surrounded by the woods on both sides. We just kept making turns onto these other dirt roads - it's a miracle we didn't get lost - and the roads not narrower and narrower. There were deer everywhere in the trees and the headlights caught their eyes in the dark, so they glowed. That was already eerie enough. Finally we got to this area where there was this one isolated house out in the middle of nowhere. We weren't terribly close to it - it was still a ways off in this open area - so it's not like we were trespassing or anything. Still, we were miles into the woods. She kills the engine and we get out of the car, and she turns to me and says, "Do you feel it?" I stood there a moment and she was right. I have no idea what I was feeling, but I definitely felt something. It felt like sort of a crushing weight. It just felt bad. If there was such a thing as negative energy, it was all over that place. Now of course, the thrill of being somewhere you weren't supposed to - some place where if something happened there was no help coming for you - is enough to make your heart race and fill you with adrenaline. So maybe that was it. But places like that make your imagination run away. You're out there surrounded by the woods and these massive cornfields. There could be eyes all over you from every direction.

So I think about that a lot if I find myself on the road late at night. Everything seems more dangerous then. It's inspired a lot of my writing, and directly inspired one of the stories in the collection.

-What works best for you when you write; do you start with the idea, title or just start writing?

J. Tonzelli: Any and/or all of the above. Ideas can literally spring from anywhere. While I was working on the book, my eyes sprang open one night at 3 a.m. with this idea. It literally woke me up. I got up right then and there and turned that idea into a story. I wrote until the sun came up, then went back to bed. I'd never done anything like that before - wrote the beginning, middle, and ending - in one sitting. You just never know when that urge will come to put something down on paper. As far as titles are concerned, sometimes a title pops into your head and it gives you the idea. Sometimes it's the opposite. You just never know. Not every idea is going to be gold, but they're usually worth at least trying to see where it leads you. I've got a folder on my computer with the title "Don't Bother" and it's filled with "ideas" that didn't really pan out. But I gave them all a shot. Just never stop writing. Ray Bradbury said that and it's the most valuable thing a writer can know.
