Sony Music Masterworks: "VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE" music by MARCO BELTRAMI

Sony Music Masterworks today announces the October 1 release of VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) with music by award-winning composer MARCO BELTRAMI (Scream, Resident Evil, A Quiet Place). Available to preorder now, the album features score music written by Beltrami for the highly anticipated sequel to the 2018 worldwide box office hit film Venom. Making their debut today alongside album preorder are two lead singles from the soundtrack – listen to “Carnage Unleashed” and “Venom and Blues” here. Sony Pictures film, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, will be released exclusively in movie theaters on Friday, October 1.

Of the soundtrack, composer MARCO BELTRAMI says, “Because of COVID restrictions, we had to change the way we worked on processing acoustical sounds. Where we’d normally work with live musicians to create source material, here we had musicians record at home and then re-amp them at Sony. In addition, we worked with feedback looping to create some of the aggressive tones for Carnage. The film presented a lot of fun musical challenges, from a unique enhanced brass theme for Venom, to the altered woodwind theme for Carnage and Shriek, to a slightly bluesy feel for Eddie. Overall, in spite of those COVID restrictions, I feel very lucky we were able to still record many of the orchestral sessions at Sony and have it come out sounding so good!”

Tom Hardy returns to the big screen as the lethal protector Venom, one of MARVEL’s greatest and most complex characters. Directed by Andy Serkis, the film also stars Michelle Williams, Naomie Harris and Woody Harrelson, in the role of the villain Cletus Kasady/Carnage.

Screenplay by Kelly Marcel. Story by Tom Hardy & Kelly Marcel. Based on the Marvel Comics. Produced by Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, Kelly Marcel, Tom Hardy and Hutch Parker. Executive Producers are Barry Waldman, Jonathan Cavendish and Ruben Fleischer. The film also stars Reid Scott and Stephen Graham.

Marco Beltrami is a two-time Oscar®-nominated composer. He has collaborated with many iconic film directors including Kathryn Bigelow, James Mangold, Bong Joon-ho, Angelina Jolie, Robert Rodriguez, Luc Besson, Guillermo Del Toro, Wes Craven, Alex Proyas, Jonathan Mostow, Roland Joffé, Jodie Foster, David E. Kelley and Tommy Lee Jones.

The composer established an early reputation as a genre innovator with his non-traditional horror scores for the Scream franchise. Beltrami’s musical palette has since expanded to virtually all film genres. Beltrami has received accolades for his music including two Academy Award nominations for Best Score: 3:10 to Yuma, starring Russell Crowe and Christian Bale, and for Best Picture winner The Hurt Locker, starring Jeremy Renner, co-scored with frequent collaborator Buck Sanders. In 2011 Beltrami won a Golden Satellite Award (Best Film Score of the Year) for Soul Surfer. Beltrami won an Emmy® Award for National Geographic’s 2019 Oscar winning documentary Free Solo, (with co-composer Brandon Roberts) for Outstanding Music Composition for a Documentary, Series or Special.

Beltrami co-scored James Mangold’s Ford v. Ferrari (Twentieth Century Studios) with Buck Sanders, for which they were shortlisted for Best Score for the 2020 Oscars, with the film going on to receive four Oscar nominations, including Best Picture.  Other recent projects include Guillermo Del Toro’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, Jordan Peele’s The Twilight Zone for CBS All Access, the Lionsgate comedy Long Shot starring Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen, the Zac Efron-starrer Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Vile, and Evil and the Paramount Pictures adventure comedy Love and Monsters. Upon completing his undergraduate studies at Brown University, Beltrami entered the Yale School of Music on a scholarship. Sony Music Masterworks: "SABLE" music by JAPANESE BREAKFAST

Sony Music Masterworks today releases JAPANESE BREAKFAST’s Original Soundtrack to SABLE, an album of instrumental and vocal music featured in the open-world video game. Drawing from her years of songwriting experience, the 32-track collection finds musician, director and author Michelle Zauner making new explorations into ambient and experimental music, the resulting soundtrack as breathtaking and otherworldly as the game itself. The album was initially introduced with lead single “Glider” in August, garnering critical acclaim from the New York Times, Rolling Stone, Consequence of Sound, NME, American Songwriter, UPROXX and more, with both Pitchfork and Entertainment Weekly naming the soundtrack one of their most anticipated albums of Fall 2021. From indie game developer Shedworks and publisher Raw Fury, Sable is now available to play with Xbox Game Pass on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and PC.

Of the soundtrack, JAPANESE BREAKFAST says, “I was so lucky Daniel Fineberg and Gregorios Kythreotis from Shedworks invited me onto this game so early on. I was immediately captivated by the world they’d built, a desert planet filled with mysterious natural and architectural wonders, and the story they’d imagined, one of a young girl coming of age through exploration. It was important to me that each biome in this world felt unique. I used woodwinds and vocal layering to make monumental ruins feel ancient and unknown, industrial samples and soft synths to make atomic ships feel cold and metallic, classical guitar and bright piano to make encampments feel cozy and familiar. I wanted the main themes to recall iconic works of Joe Hisaishi and Alan Menken, to fill the listener with the childlike wonder of someone on the precipice of a grand discovery."

Also available for pre-order today is the vinyl edition of the soundtrack, which will arrive as a 2-LP disc set in gate-fold packaging. In addition to the standard edition, an artist exclusive edition is also now available to pre-order on Japanese Breakfast’s official merch store and various color variants will be exclusive to retailers including Newbury Comics, Light in the Attic and Vinyl Me Please.

ABOUT SABLE... Embark on a unique and unforgettable journey and guide Sable through her Gliding; a rite of passage that will take her across vast deserts and mesmerizing landscapes, capped by the remains of spaceships and ancient wonders.

Sony Music Masterworks: "ESCAPE ROOM: TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS" music by Brian Tyler and John Carey

Sony Music Masterworks today releases ESCAPE ROOM: TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) with music by composers BRIAN TYLER (F9, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Yellowstone) and JOHN CAREY (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Mummy). Available everywhere now, the album features score music written by Tyler and Carey for the second installment in Columbia Pictures’ psychological thriller series, returning the composing duo to the film franchise after scoring the first Escape Room in 2019. Directed by Adam Robitel, Escape Room: Tournament of Champions is available exclusively in movie theaters now.

Of the soundtrack, composer BRIAN TYLER says, “Composing the score for Escape Room: Tournament of Champions was an incredible experience and a chance to create both an emotional musical experience as well as a dark and sonically rich soundscape. The score is composed from the perspective of classic thematic writing yet is embodied by industrial electronic music. The contrast of tones between emotional motifs and the stark sonic landscape of pure electronic music was one of the most interesting musical combinations I have ever endeavored to create. I was so pleased to work with the incredibly talented director Adam Robitel on this sequel as well as collaborating with the amazing John Carey. The film was a true joy to work on, and I cannot wait for people to see the film and hear the soundtrack!”

Fans of the original Escape Room will hear a familiar yet updated version of the 2019 film’s main theme, which Tyler and Carey have newly reprised for the sequel, of which Tyler says, “it conveys a fatalistic tone, but this time, the story has a whole new set of circumstances, and the score has an expansion of musical themes and sounds. The contrast of the distant, melancholic piano against the wall of powerful analog synthesizer develops throughout the film, and we feel more and more emotion for the main characters who helplessly fight against that invisible force.” Also included within the 21-track album is a special version of the new theme, which has been remixed by Tyler and frequent collaborator, DJ and producer Kill the Noise for the film’s main title sequence. Of the collaboration, Tyler says, “I was also proud to collaborate once again with Kill the Noise to remix the main theme for the main title sequence. This time the theme gets the drum and bass treatment and will hopefully break some speaker cones.”

Sony Music Masterworks: "WRATH OF MAN" music by Chris Benstead

Sony Music Masterworks today releases WRATH OF MAN (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) by composer CHRIS BENSTEAD.  Available everywhere now, the album features score music written by Benstead for director Guy Ritchie’s latest action thriller starring Jason Statham. The score is the latest collaboration between Benstead and Ritchie, the duo having previously worked together on The Gentleman and Aladdin.  Wrath of Man makes its theatrical debut today from MGM.

Of the soundtrack, composer CHRIS BENSTEAD says, “The score for Wrath of Man is centered around the cold and mysterious character ‘H’. Super close-mic’d cellos and double basses were used (and abused) to created awkward and jarring stabs as well as angry and unnervingly dark textures. A stoic main ‘hook' is constantly repeated in different guises to help amplify the sense of impending unease and, ultimately, revenge. Sometimes only percussion was needed to create the brutal and exigent action cues. It was an amazing experience to collaborate with the utterly brilliant Guy Ritchie once again."

A mysterious and wild-eyed new cash truck security guard (Jason Statham) surprises his coworkers during a heist in which he unexpectedly unleashes precision skills. The crew is left wondering who he is and where he came from. Soon, the marksman’s ultimate motive becomes clear as he takes dramatic and irrevocable steps to settle a score.

Chris Benstead is a British film composer, arranger and Academy Award®-winning re-recording mixer. He has worked on several projects with director Guy Ritchie including composing the score for The Gentlemen, starring Matthew McConaughey and Michelle Dockery, and the upcoming action thriller Wrath of Man. He also arranged and composed additional music for Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin alongside legendary songwriter and composer Alan Menken and produced and arranged the songs in the film, working with Will Smith to create re-imagined versions of the classic Disney songs.

Chris composed additional music for Beauty and The Beast, working closely with Alan Menken and director Bill Condon. His arrangements helped contribute to the film’s massive success – becoming the biggest grossing musical of all time.

Chris received Oscar® and BAFTA awards for his work as re-recording mixer on Alfonso Cuaron’s masterpiece Gravity, starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. Chris’ unique skillset allowed him to mix and sculpt the music in an extremely immersive way, pushing the limits of surround sound and exploiting the new ‘Dolby Atmos’ standard.

Chris is a versatile multi-instrumentalist and achieved a First-Class honors in music and sound recording from the University of Surrey. He was also named as Alumni of the Year for his ground-breaking achievement in music mixing on Gravity.

This led to a friendship and collaboration with Donald Glover, who performs under the stage name Childish Gambino, on several studio albums including Because the Internet and Awaken, My Love. Sony Music/Masterworks: "YELLOW ROSE" music by Christopher H. Knight

Sony Music Masterworks today releases YELLOW ROSE (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK), an album of music featured in the upcoming musical drama from director Diane Paragas.  Available everywhere now, the album features a mix of newly-recorded original tracks as performed in the film by Eva Noblezada, Dale Watson and Lea Salonga as well as score tracks by composer Christopher H. Knight.  The result of a collaborative writing process between the director, country singer Dale Watson and Filipino-American singer and actress Thia Megia, the new original tracks are performed in the film by Watson and lead Eva Noblezada, a breakout star of Broadway’s hit smash Hadestown.  Following the story of a young Filipina teen as she fights to pursue her dreams of becoming a country performer, Yellow Rose makes its theatrical debut Friday, October 9 via Sony Pictures’ Stage 6 Films.

“Music is truly the heart and soul of Yellow Rose,” says the film’s director DIANE PARAGAS of the soundtrack.  “Even if you’re not a country fan, I know you will love these songs performed by the extraordinary Eva Noblezada, legendary Lea Salonga and Dale Watson.  Dale also contributed his amazing songwriting talents to the film along with myself and Thia Megia.  In addition, we include the haunting score from our composer Christopher H. Knight.  I think the number one question I get asked at every Q&A is if Yellow Rose will get a soundtrack.  I’m proud to finally say that Sony Music is making this dream a reality!”

“I was thrilled when Diane asked me to write the score for her feature film directorial debut,” adds composer CHRISTOPHER H. KNIGHT.  “We worked closely on the tone and texture of the music. She brought me in very early in the process, which was essential as it allowed us to build an emotional thread throughout the film that would work alongside the wonderful songs she had written with Dale Watson. It was also important for the score to have its own voice. With that in mind, in addition to using traditional instrumentation, I created ambient atmospheres by processing Filipino folk instruments in unconventional ways to provide a rich sonic fabric that would support Rose’s inspirational journey.”

Rose, an undocumented Filipina girl, dreams of one day leaving her small Texas town to pursue her country music dreams. Her world is shattered when her mom suddenly gets picked up by immigration and Customs Enforcement. Rose, facing this new reality, is forced to flee the scene, leaving behind the only life she knows, and embarking on a journey of self-discovery as she searches for a new home in the honky tonk world of Austin, Texas.

Christopher H. Knight attended the University of Texas at Austin. While at UT, he studied Electronic and Computer Music with renowned composer and professor Russell Pinkston. It was at this time when he scored his first short films. He has gone on to score a wide range of TV and film projects. Christopher’s opening themes for Masterpiece Classic and Masterpiece Mystery are heard on PBS and Amazon Prime by millions every week. You can also hear his music during NBC’s Sunday Night Football. In 2017, he re-imagined and updated the classic HBO “Feature Presentation” theme, which IndieWire hailed as, “…honestly more epic than most Marvel Superhero themes.” Knight has written the scores to several films including: A Close Enemy [Sony/Monumental Pictures], Six Degrees Could Change the World [NatGeo], Echo Park [Array Films] and Yellow Rose [Sony/Stage 6 Films]. He has also worked with composer Blake Neely writing music for Blindspot [NBC], Arrow [CW], and the hit Netflix series YOU.

Of the track, Courtney Love says, “I read ‘The Turn of the Screw’ as a kid, so it’s a genuine privilege to have had the opportunity to work with the genius that is Floria Sigismondi and Lawrence Rothman on this soundtrack – especially as I’m alongside so many other fantastic female artists I respect. I’ve long admired her work, particularly The Runaways and the Marilyn Manson videos. Floria and Lawrence had a clear vision on what they wanted to achieve and it was an honor to be invited into their studio and to become a part of it.”

To help create a completely original soundtrack, Lawrence Rothman called in producer Yves Rothman and they went on to approach all their favorite artists and things fell into place. The majority of the soundtrack was written and recorded at Lawrence’s Los Angeles studio, House of Lux.

Lawrence Rothman explains, “We were both inspired by the classic 90’s soundtracks – Romeo and Juliet, Lost Highway, The Crow, the sessions were chaotic and inspired, it was a fever dream for months. Yves and I are beyond ecstatic to have worked with so many of our favorite artists.”  Lawrence too had a strong connection to the short story that inspired the movie, adding, “‘The Turn of the Screw’ was a seminal piece of literature for me when I was a teen, so when Floria Sigismondi approached me to produce all new and original music for her film, curated like the classic 90s soundtracks, it was a dream come true. I had just started my new record label KRO Records with Yves Rothman and Justin Raisen. I already had a compilation project much like the soundtrack in the works with multiple artists, so the timing was serendipitous.

Sony Music Masterworks: "THE IRISHMAN"

Of the soundtrack, director MARTIN SCORSESE says, “For me, music is always essential. When I hear the music, I start seeing the images and the world of the movie starts coming together for me. In the case of this movie, it was “In the Still of the Night” by The Five Satins: as we started developing the script I started to hear the song in my head, and it became a key inspiration.

Because music is so essential for me, Robbie and Randy are each close collaborators. I’ve worked with both of them for many years on many pictures, and there’s only one rule that we follow: there are no rules. At a certain point, I went to a piece of music from a French film of the 50s called Touchez pas au Grisbi, a harmonica theme that felt right. And Robbie built his score from that mood, that instrumentation. He started with the harmonica, and then he added the double bass, percussion, and guitar riffs and that was just the right mood. That was it.

Randy and I discussed so much music for this picture. We always do. It’s never a matter of just finding music from the time period of the story—I always want to go deeper than that. It’s a whole process, an adventure, and Randy’s always up for it.”

Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci star in Martin Scorsese’s THE IRISHMAN, an epic saga of organized crime in post-war America told through the eyes of World War II veteran Frank Sheeran, a hustler and hitman who worked alongside some of the most notorious figures of the 20th century. Spanning decades, the film chronicles one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in American history, the disappearance of legendary union boss Jimmy Hoffa, and offers a monumental journey through the hidden corridors of organized crime: its inner workings, rivalries and connections to mainstream politics.

Sony Music: "CHARLIE’S ANGELS" Music by Brian Tyler

Sony Music announces the November 8 release of CHARLIE’S ANGELS (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SCORE) with music by BRIAN TYLER (The Avengers, Crazy Rich Asians, Iron Man 3).  Available for pre-order now, the album features music from Elizabeth Banks’ Charlie’s Angels. The film makes its theatrical debut on Friday, November 15 via Sony Pictures.  Premiering alongside today’s pre-order is Brian Tyler’s newly-composed theme for the film – listen here.

“It was an absolute pleasure composing the score for Charlie’s Angels for the incredible director Elizabeth Banks,” says composer BRIAN TYLER of the score. “Together we endeavored to create a score that enhanced the mystery, action, fun, and power of the movie while giving a nod to the movie’s 70s roots. I composed new themes for the film that would feel nostalgic yet fresh and also work playing alongside the theme from the original TV series. The sonic elements of the score conjure up a variety of musical styles: symphonic, hip-hop, and 70s groove. I played many instruments on the score myself such as guitar, vintage drums, Rhodes piano, vibes, and electric bass. I then recorded and mixed those elements in a way that would sound like they were sampled off vintage albums, a technique often employed in hip-hop. I also conducted the Hollywood Studio Symphony which provided an epic feel and a deeper emotional context. In addition, I had a blast with two nu-disco songs (‘Euphoria’ and ‘Neon Sky’), produced under my electronic music moniker Madsonik. The movie was an absolute joy thanks to the amazing team lead by our director Elizabeth Banks. I hope everyone enjoys listening to this album as much as we enjoyed making it!”

Director Elizabeth Banks takes the helm as the next generation of fearless Charlie’s Angels take flight. In Banks’ bold vision, Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska are working for the mysterious Charles Townsend, whose security and investigative agency has expanded internationally. With the world’s smartest, bravest, and most highly trained women all over the globe, there are now teams of Angels guided by multiple Bosleys taking on the toughest jobs everywhere. The screenplay is by Elizabeth Banks from a story by Evan Spiliotopoulos and David Auburn.

Sony Music: "THE SUN IS ALSO A STAR" music by Herdís Stefánsdóttir

Sony Music announces the release of THE SUN IS ALSO A STAR (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) with music by Icelandic composer HERDÍS STEFÁNSDÓTTIR.  Available Friday, May 10, the soundtrack features music from the Warner Bros. Pictures and Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures film, which will be released nationwide on Friday, May 17.

“Working with Ry on creating the score for The Sun Is Also A Star was a wonderful and smooth process,” says composer Herdís Stefánsdóttir of the soundtrack. “I immediately felt we had a musical connection, which helped create the themes for the film.  I was 7 months pregnant when I started writing the score and that made the experience very special for me. I was extra emotional and focused because of my situation, which I felt helped me overall in the creative process, and was able to write the music quickly and felt inspired by the story. I needed to write music that would evolve and mature with the characters in the film and the growing feeling of love. I mostly used a mix of ukulele, harp, electronics, flutes, strings and piano. The score was lighter in the beginning of the film, but as the drama progresses I brought in deeper sounds and more emotional instruments like the piano, cello and harp.”

In the film, college-bound romantic Daniel Bae (Charles Melton) and Jamaica-born pragmatist Natasha Kingsley (Yara Shahidi) meet – and fall for each other – over one magical day amidst the fervor and flurry of New York City.  Sparks immediately fly between these two strangers, who might never have met had fate not given them a little push.  But will fate be enough to take these teens from star-crossed to lucky in love?  With just hours left on the clock in what looks to be her last day in the U.S., Natasha is fighting against her family’s deportation as fiercely as she’s fighting her budding feelings for Daniel, who is working just as hard to convince her they are destined to be together.  A modern-day story about finding love against all odds, The Sun Is Also a Star explores whether our lives are determined by fate or the random events of the universe.

ABOUT HERDÍS STEFÁNSDÓTTIR... Herdís Stefánsdóttir is a composer of music for multimedia, a songwriter, and an electronic musician. Her compositional endeavors – installations in museums, dance, theatre, and a successful electronic music duet she is a part of – are establishing her as an expansive artist.

Herdís Stefánsdóttir graduated with a M.A. degree in film scoring from New York University in 2017. Since graduation, she has scored two American feature films and a few short films. Herdís interned for the Oscar-nominated composer Jóhann Jóhannsson in Berlin while he was working on the film Arrival (2016), and she has scored numerous short films that have premiered at top-tier festivals around the world like Berlinale, TIFF, Sundance and Palm Springs International Film Festival.

Sony Music: "BRIGHTBURN" music by Timothy Williams

Sony Music announces the release of BRIGHTBURN (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) with music by multi-award winning composer TIMOTHY WILLIAMS (Wild Horses, Debug, Walking with the Enemy).  Available Friday, May 10, the soundtrack features music from the James Gunn and Kenneth Huang-produced film, which makes its theatrical debut in the United States on Friday, May 24.

Of the soundtrack, composer TIMOTHY WILLIAMS says, “Being able to merge two genres which have never been combined before, superhero and horror, was an amazing experience.  I was thankful for a close collaborative relationship with the director Dave Yarovesky.  We worked on the idea of a main theme at the beginning that would be simple and reflect the emotional investment of hope in the story.  You hear this in a three note piano solo theme.  As Brandon's power increases, we begin to feel the weight and power of a large orchestra which then bends and distorts with Brandon's descent into evil.  The low strings and low brass mutate the theme and processed percussion pumps up the tension.  Because Brandon is this kid from another world, I got to develop some unique sounds using a bespoke library for the ROLI which bends and pitches sound as well.  Overall it was a dream come true to create this sound for a new genre film.”
What if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to humankind, he proved to be something far more sinister? In this horrific take on the classic superhero trope, a couple (Elizabeth Banks and David Denman) adopts a baby who came from the stars. While they attempt to raise the boy (Jackson A. Dunn) to use his powers for good, an evil begins to grow inside that he unleashes.

ABOUT TIMOTHY WILLIAMS... Timothy Williams is a multi-award winning composer, orchestrator and conductor for film and television, whose awards include the MPSE Golden Reel Award and Hollywood Music in Media Award for best score.

Highlights include scoring Robert Duvall's, Wild Horses (Robert Duvall, Josh Hartnett and James Franco), John Moore's I.T. which starred Pierce Brosnan, I'm Not Ashamed, Diablo (starring Scott Eastwood and Walton Goggins), which won the jury award at the San Diego Film Festival and Walking With The Enemy, staring Ben Kingsley. Recent works include Secret of Pirate Island for Sony, Butterfly Circus, Beyond All Boundaries and Get Out!

Tim's scores have been released on multiple soundtrack albums. Varese Sarabande released the score for Get Out!, Lakeshore records released the soundtracks for I'm Not Ashamed, I.T., Wild Horses, Debug, Walking With The Enemy and Red Sky.

Diablo was listed in the best scores of 2016. Red Sky was nominated for "best soundtrack" at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards. Debug was listed among the best of 2015. Walking With The Enemy was listed among the best scores of 2014 and made the Oscars-eligible score list.

Sony Music: "POKÉMON DETECTIVE PIKACHU" music by Henry Jackman

Sony Music announces the release of POKÉMON DETECTIVE PIKACHU (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) with music by award-winning composer HENRY JACKMAN, whose scoring credits include Captain America: Civil War, X-Men: First Class, Monsters vs. Aliens and more.  Available Friday, May 3, the soundtrack features music from the exciting first-ever live-action Pokémon adventure, with Ryan Reynolds leading an all-star cast as the unique crime-solving Detective Pikachu. From Warner Bros. Pictures, Legendary Entertainment, and The Pokémon Company, POKÉMON Detective Pikachu makes its theatrical debut Friday, May 10.

Of the soundtrack, composer HENRY JACKMAN says: “Writing the music for POKÉMON Detective Pikachu was immense fun.  The movie itself was a unique invitation to create a new musical world representing all the wonderful and colorful characters of the Pokémon  universe.  I really enjoyed using many different sonic colors so, if you listen carefully, you can hear everything from the full symphony orchestra to analog vintage synths.  I was also very happy to be working again with Rob Letterman, who even tried to get his beloved 808 Drum Machine into the score, until we found it was fatally damaged.  To have been selected to write music for such a well-loved and precious franchise is a great honor, and I greatly hope my best efforts contribute positively to the Pokémon experience.

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures present, in association with Toho Co., Ltd. POKÉMON Detective Pikachu, a Legendary Pictures production and a Rob Letterman film.  The film will be distributed outside of Japan and China by Warner Bros. Pictures, in Japan by Toho Co., Ltd. and by Legendary East in China.

Sony Music: "THE HUSTLE" music by Anne Dudley

Sony Music announces the release of THE HUSTLE (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) with music by composer ANNE DUDLEY (The Full Monty, American History X, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again).  The soundtrack will be available everywhere both digitally and physically Friday, May 3. Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures will release THE HUSTLE starring Academy Award® winner Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson through the United Artists Releasing banner in theaters nationwide on Friday, May 10.

“THE HUSTLE is based on one of my favorite films Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and, in a nod to this, my score takes as its starting point the music of The Hot Club of France,” says composer ANNE DUDLEY of the soundtrack.  “I’ve always found this sound both irrepressibly happy and somehow a bit louche. The driving energy of the guitar rhythms coupled with some sophisticated harmonies represent the contrasting characters of Penny (Rebel Wilson) and Josephine (Anne Hathaway), without the score having to be overbearingly ‘comic.’

It was a particular delight to work with some of my favorite musicians – especially John Parricelli on guitar, Chris Garrick on violin and Eddie Hession on accordion. It was also a pleasure to work with Chris Addison, the director who was full of good cheer, and musically incredibly literate.”

In the hilarious new comedy THE HUSTLE, Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson star as female scam artists, one low rent and the other high class, who team up to take down the dirty rotten men who have wronged them.

THE HUSTLE is directed by Emmy Award®-winner Chris Addison (Veep) from a screenplay by Jac Schaeffer. Cave 76’s Roger Birnbaum and Rebel Wilson’s CAMP SUGAR produced the film. Ilona Herzberg and Alison Owen serve as executive producers.

Sony Music: "TOLKIEN" music by Thomas Newman

Sony Music announces the release of TOLKIEN (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) with music by GRAMMY®, EMMY® and BAFTA® Award-winning composer THOMAS NEWMAN, whose scoring credits include American Beauty, Six Feet Under, Skyfall, Finding Nemo and more.  Available Friday, May 3, the soundtrack features music from Fox Searchlight’s Tolkien, which makes its theatrical debut Friday, May 10.

Of the soundtrack, composer THOMAS NEWMAN says: “Because J.R.R. Tolkien is embedded in popular culture, and because his work and outlook have been the subjects of much interpretation, I wanted to write music for Tolkien that would honor his ethos, his individualism, without being slavish to it. The musical vocabulary draws from a wide swath of instrumental and vocal colors, from winds with string accompaniment to solo voice in hushed pianissimo. There is Swedish kantélé, mandolin and monochord intersecting bell rhythms and piano-derived ambiences. The object is to give musical identity to the nascent feelings of the young storyteller from Birmingham, only just beginning to stretch his wings. And because much of the story is seen through the prism of his time spent in the trenches of World War I, there is that parallel experience of epic conflict that deepens my feeling for his language and, I hope, lets sound, noise, and melody rise up and sing.”

Directed by Dome Karukoski and written by David Gleeson and Stephen Beresford, Fox Searchlight’s Tolkien explores the formative years of the renowned author’s life as he finds friendship, courage and inspiration among a fellow group of writers and artists at school. Their brotherhood strengthens as they grow up and weather love and loss together, including Tolkien’s tumultuous courtship of his beloved Edith Bratt, until the outbreak of the First World War which threatens to tear their fellowship apart. All of these experiences would later inspire Tolkien to write his famous Middle-earth novels. The film stars Nicholas Hoult as J.R.R. Tolkien with Lily Collins as his future wife and muse Edith. The film also stars Colm Meaney, Anthony Boyle, Patrick Gibson, Tom Glynn-Carney, Craig Roberts, Derek Jacobi, Harry Gilby, Adam Bregman, Albie Marber, Ty Tennant, Laura Donnelly, Genevieve O’Reilly and Pam Ferris. Tolkien is produced by Peter Chernin, p.g.a., Jenno Topping, p.g.a., David Ready, p.g.a., and Kris Thykier
