Intrada: "THE VALLEY OF GWANGI" Music by Jerome Moross

At long last, Intrada presents Jerome Moross' original soundtrack to the Ray Harryhausen fantasy The Valley of Gwangi, thanks to the generous participation of Warner Bros. Pictures.   Moross’ opening main title features confident western rhythms that harken back to Moross’ score to The Big Country, and yet its  powerful solo trumpet speaks both to the film’s western nature and to Gwangi himself. Jerome Moross’ distinctive Americana musical style was most befitting for a “western” film packed with cowboy heroics.

To release Jerome Moross’ entire score for The Valley of Gwangi on CD, Intrada had to do a considerable amount of work to find suitable elements. Intrada ultimately located material from several mono sources, all fortunately free of any dialog or effects. These included: two brief reels provided by Tom O’Steen of the Starlog label some time ago; numerous surviving cues from the sessions kept by Jerome Moross and generously provided by his daughter, Susanna Moross-Tarjan; and the entire score on music-only stems from the film’s D/M/E tracks vaulted by Warner Bros. After performing audio restoration with the expert assistance of Chris Malone, everything was matched as closely as possible in terms of levels and EQ and sequenced in film order—with the exception that the wild west circus band music was placed in its own suite.

In the film, James Franciscus plays the slippery Tuck Kirby, who reunites with former girlfriend T.J. Breckenridge (Gila Golan), owner of a traveling circus who has stumbled across an amazing miniature horse—a prehistoric eohippus—that she plans to exhibit at her show. When Kirby and paleontologist Professor Bromley (Lawrence Naismith) lay eyes on the miniature horse, they each have their own ideas about how the creature should be exploited, while a group of seemingly superstitious gypsies see the mini-horse as the property of Gwangi—a godlike monster thought to dwell in a place called the Forbidden Valley. When the gypsies steal back the eohippus, Kirby, Bromley, T.J. and some of her men pursue them to the Forbidden Valley — and the group finds themselves trapped within this strange environment with dinosaurs, including a Pteranodon, an Ornithomimus, a Styracosaurus, and Gwangi—a predatory therapod somewhere between a Tyrannosaurus-rex and an Allosaurus.

Lakeshore Records: "LEGION SEASON TWO" Music by Jeff Russo

Lakeshore Records will release the LEGION SEASON TWO - Original Television Soundtrack digitally on May 25th, featuring original music by Emmy® Award winning composer Jeff Russo (Fargo, The Night Of). Legion is the story of “David Haller” (Dan Stevens), a man who believed himself to be schizophrenic only to discover that he may actually be the most powerful mutant the world has ever seen.  Russo goes deeper and pushes more boundaries with the second season score.  Legion currently airs Tuesdays at 10pm ET/PT on FX.

Says Russo: “There wasn’t a directive this season except to write some new themes for our new characters and locations.  Vermillion! Farouk! Future Syd! It’s a roller coaster ride or maybe a fast carousel.  Always keeping the viewer and listener off balanced and engaged in the emotional through line of the narrative is the most important part. I’m always asking myself how can I stay in the heart of the story and color outside the lines.”

La-La Land Records: "COBRA KAI: THE KARATE KID SAGA CONTINUES"

La-La Land Records is proud to announce the release of the COBRA KAI CD soundtrack on May 22, 2018 at www.lalalandrecords.com, followed by a general retail release June 1, 2018 and on LP later this year. The hit YouTube Red series, produced by Overbrook Entertainment in association with Sony Pictures Television, debuted on May 2 and stars Ralph Macchio and William Zabka reprising their roles from the original 1984 feature film “The Karate Kid.” As a special exclusive, 300 units of the CD will be available packaged in a 1980's-style replica longbox, via the label’s website (www.lalalandrecords.com), as a tribute to The Karate Kid Saga’s origins. The album features the original score by composers Leo Birenberg and Zach Robinson (SING IT!, SON OF ZORN), with the CD release featuring several exclusive, CD-only tracks.

“For COBRA KAI, we created three unique score worlds that each support a different story being told on the show,” said Birenberg. “We like to say Johnny's music is the representation of how he hears himself: as the ultimate badass, scored with face-melting guitar riffs and bruising arena drums. Daniel La Russo’s theme is supported by more orchestral, Japanese-influenced sounds and his tonal palette our through line that connects us to the earlier films and Bill Conti's legendary score.”

Varese Sarabande: "SIRENS" A Musical Composition Inspired by The Odyssey, Original Music Composed by Craig Safan

Varèse Sarabande is honored to announce the release of Sirens digitally and on CD on June 1, 2018. The album features original music by composer Craig Safan (THE LAST STARFIGHTER, the album Rough Magic). Sirens is an original composition based on the tales of the classic Greek myth The Odyssey and the amazing locations where the tales took place.

“Sirens is inspired partly by my love of The Odyssey and partly by my lifelong love of myths.  I've been enchanted by both since I was a child,” said Safan.  “These tales and their magic have resonated throughout my life. With Sirens I'm not portraying the literal tales in The Odyssey, but rather the innermost feelings and memories they convey. The inward experience and journey, the wanderings of our lives, our relationship to family and home, and the deeper sororities of existence.”

Travels to historic regions are always an inspiration to Safan.  His 2015 album Rough Magic, was inspired by the ancient caves of Southern France and Northern Spain.  Similarly, Safan traveled to Europe to soak in the atmosphere where events in The Odyssey took place. “In preparing to compose Sirens, I wanted to visit some of the actual locations that appear in The Odyssey,” continued Safan. “I found that while they are mostly unknown and imaginary, many scholars put them in and around Sicily. There I found many places that are named after the sirens, the Cyclops, the wind god, Aeolus, and Odysseus, as well as the straits where Scylla and Charybdis lurked. I traveled along the coast and visited the Aeolian Islands, exploring caves and ancient quarries, recording the natural sounds and the unique echoes and reverberations of each.”

MovieScore Media: "DEAD MEN" Music by Gerrit Wunder

MovieScore Media takes a hard ride with Dead Men, reuniting with composer Gerrit Wunder who had already proven his experience in genre scoring with Kiss the Devil in the Dark and Creatures of Whitechapel. His music for Dead Men takes the viewers down to the Arizona territories, where writer/director Royston Innes and writer/actor Ric Maddox follow the path of a young man forced on a journey to avenge the death of his father, protect the Apache tribe he has grown to love and reclaim the land and gold that is rightfully theirs.

“The challenge when composing the score for Dead Men was keeping a modernized Sergio Leone-esque root and pair it with a Native American tone while frequently bending off into intense action thriller-like chases and suspense music.“ explains the composer about creating the unique sound palette for the film. “Growing up with Italian western movies in my home country, Austria (which was actually not very different from the Old West back in its 1800s), I quickly started feeling comfortable with this style.“ The music alternates between action-packed set pieces and desert ambience using country music, Native American sounds and the best traditions of spaghetti westerns in the vein of Ennio Morricone.

Austrian-born composer Gerrit Wunder studied film music at the University of Music in Vienna. He is one of the few composers who consecutively won both the ASCAP Competition and BMI Award for Aspiring Film Composers. His list of documentary credits include The Sound of Hollywood (about Max Steiner) and Na-Naia: Legend of the Dolphins featuring Kate Winslet, Daryl Hannah and Megan Fox. More recently Gerrit worked alongside composer Rupert Gregson-Williams on “Postman Pat - The Movie”, he also scored the TV Pilot DAWN for MGM, directed by Robert Stromberg (Maleficent) as well as nature- and sports documentaries for “Red Bull Media”. Gerrit Wunder resides in Los Angeles. His scores for Kiss the Devil in the Dark and Creatures of Whitechapel are released by ScreamWorks Records. [http://moviescoremedia.com/]

Olive Films: "A BUCKET OF BLOOD" [1959] (DVD)

A career highlight, director Roger Corman’s A Bucket of Blood has much in common with his black-humor horror flick The Little Shop of Horrors and the post-apocalyptic Sci-Fi gem Gas-s-s-s.

In the immortal words of Hippocrates, “Life is short, art long, opportunity fleeting ...” Hippocrates was onto something.

A Bucket of Blood, directed by Roger Corman (The Trip), is the best of the genre hyphenates, a black-comedy-beatnik-culture-horror film. The masterful Corman (recipient of an honorary Academy Award® in 2010 for “his rich engendering of films and filmmakers”), often referred to as the Pope of Pop Culture, delivers on every level in a film packed with notable character actors including cult-favorite Dick Miller (The Trip, The Wild Angels) in the lead role of Walter, a busboy who dreams of creating the perfect work of art. Also featured are Barboura Morris (The Trip, The Haunted Palace) as Carla, the woman of Walter’s dreams, and Bert Convy (Semi-Tough) as undercover cop Lou Raby.

Influenced by the artists that circle his orbit at The Yellow Door Café, busboy Walter ventures into the world of sculpting where he can nurture the Rodin that lives inside of him. The downside is that his subjects are dead – by his hand. His beginnings, both humble and accidental, start with a small statue called “Dead Cat.” Unfortunately, “Dead Cat” is followed by “Murdered Man.” By the time we reach Walter’s interest in the female form …. well, you get the picture.

A Bucket of Blood is written by Charles B. Griffith (Death Race 2000), photographed by Jacques R. Marquette (Burnt Offerings), edited by Anthony Carras (The Comedy of Terrors), with music by Fred Katz (The Little Shop of Horrors) and art direction by Dan Haller (Pit and the Pendulum).

Varèse Sarabande: "Killer Klowns From Outer Space: Reimagined" Music by John Massari

Varèse Sarabande Records will release Killer Klowns From Outer Space: Re-Imagined, a new recording of the soundtrack digitally on May 18th and on CD May 25, 2018.  The album features the film’s original synth score re-imagined by composer John Massari, performed by the 30-piece Hollywood Chamber Orchestra, with a special guest appearance by composer Bear McCreary playing the accordion and hurdy gurdy. As a special treat, The Dickies recorded a BRAND NEW version of the film’s theme song, featuring an extra creepy intro followed by their signature pure punk energized sound.

“Clowns can be frightening, bizarre and terrifying. We took that primordial fear and put it in a Sci-Fi movie,” explained composer John Massari.  “You have something that should make you happy and laugh, but now it will kill and eat you and… it’s from outer space! Who would have dreamed of this? That’s the craziest idea in the world.”

America’s fascination with Killer Klowns From Outer Space began on screen in 1988, as a group of clown-like aliens land their trans-dimensional space ship and terrorize a small American town. The film has achieved cult status with its clever blend of horror, science fiction and comedy.

“I was first assigned the task of writing a theme song for the movie Killer Klowns From Outer Space around 1987,” said The Dickies frontman Leonard Graves Phillips in a post on the band’s Facebook page.  “After attending a rough screening to get a flavor of the film, I quickly got the concept for what sound-scaping the piece would require as well as a blueprint for its composition. I decided to follow a traditional circus motif reminiscent of pop songs borrowing from Julius Fucik's ‘Entry of the Gladiators.’ For Klowns, I simply put that same circus march melody over a dark, heavy metal chord pattern for a foreboding horror show effect.”

“For 30 years, love and loyalty from fans the world over made this extraordinary movie a beloved cult classic,” said Massari.  “This release is our way to celebrate Killer Klowns From Outer Space directly with these fans.”

Celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Killer Klowns From Outer Space with a Bacchanalian Circus Celebration and Fan Tribute on May 19, 2018 at The Montalban Theater in Los Angeles, CA. Varèse Sarabande Records will release Killer Klowns From Outer Space: ReimagineD, a new recording of the soundtrack digitally on May 18th and on CD May 25, 2018.

One of those scores, that needs no introductions... one of my favorite films, scores and now we have this... it's fun for sure.

Meliam Music: "THE MIRACLE SEASON" Music by Roque Baños

THE MIRACLE SEASON, which premiered in theaters last month, features original music by Spanish composer Roque Baños (THE COMMUTER, IN THE HEART OF THE SEA).  The soundtrack will be released digitally by Meliam Music.

THE MIRACLE SEASON is based on the inspiring true story of West High School girl's volleyball team. After the tragic death of the school's star player Caroline "Line" Found, the remaining team players must band together under the guidance of their tough-love coach in hope of winning the state championship.  The film was directed by Sean McNamara and stars Helen Hunt, William Hurt, Danika Yarosh, and Erin Moriariy.

A volleyball fan himself, Baños was familiar with the West High School’s story.  “I heard from the story a couple of years before I scored the movie and was very touched by it. I remembered thinking at the time that this amazing story would make a great movie.”

Baños was able to work closely with McNamara and producer Pete Shilaimon to set the correct tone for the story.  “They wanted a very emotional and epic Americana score that encourages everyone to overcome any dramatic situation. I used a traditional orchestral sound with the addition of a marching band percussion section,” he described.

In addition Baños was able to meet Caroline Found’s father, Ernie and show him some of the score.  “He is an extraordinary man, a French horn player, that had lived through the most terrible time a father could have. But he always smiles, and he expressed how much he was touched by the theme, that he immediately thought about his daughter and every moment he spent with her. This was one of the most special moments in my life.”

Sony Masterworks: "DEADPOOL 2" Music by Tyler Bates

The official Deadpool 2 (Original Motion Picture Score) is now available everywhere digitally to stream / download. Fans can now hear the first-ever “parental guidance” tagged score album from award-winning composer, Tyler Bates (John Wick, Guardians of the Galaxy, Watchmen) and look forward to explicit numbers such as “Holy S*** Balls” and “Make the Whole World our B****”.  Stream or download the album now ahead of the film’s release on May 18, 2018.

“We’re thrilled to receive a ‘parental guidance’ tag on the score album!” says Tyler Bates. The film is directed by David Leitch and written by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick & Ryan Reynolds. The movie stars Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Morena Baccarin, Julian Dennison, Zazie Beetz, T.J. Miller, Brianna Hildebrand and Jack Kesy.

ABOUT TYLER BATES: With an innate understanding of an environment’s power, perhaps it’s no coincidence that Tyler Bates has become not only an artisan at architecting music for film, television, and video games, but an in-demand multi-instrumentalist, writer, and producer. Through the nineties, he logged 1,200-plus live shows in his bands, including Pet, released on Igloo/Atlantic Records, under the guidance of Tori Amos, before segueing into the world of film score. He started to make waves by creating the audio backdrop for the popular Zack Snyder Dawn of the Dead reboot in 2004 followed by his soundtrack for the filmmaker’s 300.

By 2017, he worked on the most successful franchises in recent memory: Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and John Wick. In addition to composing for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 & Vol. 2 and winning a BMI Film Music Award for the first, he co-wrote and produced a fan favorite “disco version” of “Guardians Inferno” [feat. David Hasselhoff], performed the second installment’s score at the 2017 MOSMA Festival in Spain, and crafted the music for the Disney California Adventure attraction Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission Breakout!

Meanwhile, John Wick: Chapter 2 represents the nexus of his work as a composer, performer, and songwriter. He penned the closing credits tune “A Job To Do” alongside legendary Alice In Chains guitarist and vocalist Jerry Cantrell and performed on-screen during the climactic “Rock Opera” sequence, rocking a guitar-viol on stage with Le Castle Vania and Nostalghia. Samurai Jack offered a similar experience. After overseeing score production for Samurai Jack with composers, Joanne Higginbottom and Dieter Hartmann, he took the stage to perform a suite of the score at a sold-out Ace Theatre concert.

Samurai Jack just one of his many TV credits. His sonic presence can also be felt throughout Netflix’s The Punisher, Showtime’s Californication, Audience Network’s Kingdom, WGN America’s Salem, and more as well as video games such as Killzone: Shadow Fall, God of War: Ascension, Army of Two: The 40th Day, and most recently Crossfire.

2014 saw the birth of a powerful partnership with Marilyn Manson, touring the world. After meeting on a Californication performance, Bates went on to co-write and produce the 2015 epic, The Pale Emperor and the follow up in 2017, Heaven Upside Down. A runaway worldwide success, it achieved the Top 10 of the Billboard Top 200 at #6 and earned widespread critical acclaim with Rolling Stone hailing it as the “#1 Metal Album of 2015.” Bates handled music for the blockbuster Atomic Blonde starring Academy Award® winner Charlize Theron. For the project, he also produced Health’s cover of “Blue Monday” and re-invigorated and revitalized Ministry’s “Stigmata” with Manson for key sequences in the film. On the big screen, he can be heard in the critically acclaimed The Belko Experiment as well as Public and 24 Hours to Live, while his voice permeates NETFLIX’s The Punisher and Season 2 of The Exorcist.

Intrada: "BABY: SECRET OF THE LOST LEGEND" Music by Jerry Goldsmith

Intrada presents an updated release of Jerry Goldsmith's 1985 score to Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend. Intrada mastered the earlier release from a DAT transfer of Jerry Goldsmith’s personal 2-track stereo mix of the print takes on ¼” stereo tape, made by mixer Shawn Murphy in the early 1990s when Goldsmith was dubbing much of his analog library over to the relatively new digital tape format. For this 2018 remastering of the complete score, Intrada was provided access to everything from the September 1984 sessions, maintained in pristine condition in the vast Disney vaults. These included the original 32-track scoring session masters as well as the multi-track digital mixes made by Murphy from the 32-track elements. One anomaly from the previous release has now been corrected — Goldsmith’s copy of the mixes included a couple of tracks, in particular the lengthy finale of the score, “Baby’s Alive,” playing back at a slightly slower speed than what should have been the case. Finally, in addition to remastering everything, this release includes five previously unreleased “extras”— source cues that include three pieces by the composer’s son, Joel Goldsmith, working with lyricist Sidney Barnes on two and Debrah Neal on the third and two traditional source tracks. These are heard in the film in truncated versions but appear here for the first time in their entirety.

Baby was the first of many impressive scores delivered by Goldsmith that year, a year that included Rambo: First Blood Part 2, Explorers, and King Solomon's Mines. Interestingly the break-loose, thundering action music in Baby most resembles the action music in Rambo, where Goldsmith chose to focus on his aggressive action style for the relentless chase sequences. Baby was a particularly challenging assignment for Goldsmith. Coming eight years before the CGI revolution and Jurassic Park, Goldsmith needed to come up not only with an exciting dinosaur theme, but be the emotion and character of the somewhat inexpressive rubber baby dinosaur character and endear it to the audience. He also had to express the familial instincts of the two adult dinosaurs, their anger and anguish as they confront the dinosaur hunters, and the baby dinosaur's developing bond with the human couple (played by William Katt and Sean Young). Goldsmith also had to characterize the Sunufu tribesmen, flesh out the atmosphere of the African location photography, and provide the driving rhythms that would propel a number of elaborate action scenes in the film. The result: Goldsmith delivers a score that compares favorably to masterpieces like Legend and Rambo 2, in a way creating a satisfying synthesis between the fanciful, exotic fantasy of the former and the hard-charging, relentless action of the latter.

The film follows the story of a young paleontologist (Sean Young) on an expedition to Central Africa, where she eventually runs afoul of the expedition's leader (Patrick McGoohan), who is on the trail of living dinosaurs rumored to be roaming deep in the African jungle. When the paleontologist and her husband chase a dinosaur clue, they do discover a family of sauropods. A band of rogue military men is not far behind, however, and soon the father is killed, the mother is captured, and the baby escapes with the paleontologist and her husband and begins an exciting race to freedom.

MVD Entertainment Group: "Death Smiles On A Murderer" [1973] [Blu-ray]

A haunting and dreamlike gothic horror/giallo hybrid, Death Smiles on a Murderer is a compelling early work from the legendary sleaze and horror film director Joe D'Amato (Anthropophagus, Emanuelle in America), here billed under his real name Aristide Massaccesi. Set in Austria in the early 1900s, Death Smiles on a Murderer stars Ewa Aulin, (Candy, Death Laid an Egg) as Greta, a beautiful young woman abused by her brother Franz (Luciano Rossi, Death Walks in High Heels, The Conformist) and left to die in childbirth by her illicit lover, the aristocrat Dr. von Ravensbrück (Giacomo Rossi Stuart, Kill, Baby... Kill!).

Bereft with grief, Franz reanimates his dead sister using a formula engraved on an ancient Incan medallion. Greta then returns as an undead avenging angel, reaping revenge on the Ravensbrück family and her manically possessive brother. Presented here in a stunning 2K restoration, D'Amato's film is a stately and surreal supernatural mystery which benefits from an achingly mournful score by Berto Pisano, several shocking scenes of gore, and a typically sinister performance from Klaus Kinski as a morbid doctor.

Breaking Glass Pictures has acquired US rights to the retro, haunted house horror feature HOUSE OF EVIL. Breaking Glass acquired rights to the film in October in a deal negotiated between Breaking Glass CEO Rich Wolff and Frederic Demy of The Story Forge, LTD.

Described as a film that brings “a perfect blend of old school and modern horror” (Horrorscreams Videovault) which “builds to a satisfying climax that wraps itself contentedly in its Italian roots.” (The Schlock Pit), HOUSE OF EVIL was an official selection at the Ferrara Film Festival and the Italian New Horror Film Festival. The film stars Andrew Harwood Mills (Retribution, Zombie Massacre 2: Reich of the Dead), Lucy Drive (Dead End, Cassette, Outside Bet), and Désirée Giorgetti (Alaska).

Based on true events, HOUSE OF EVIL follows a young couple who, in the 1970s, move into a large, remote house in the countryside with hopes of starting a family. However, it's not long before they are menaced by ghosts and a darker demonic presence.

“House of Evil is a true homage to classic Italian horror cinema”, said Wolff. “The film is a welcome addition to our genre library.”

HOUSE OF EVIL will arrive on May 8 on DVD and VOD platforms including iTunes, Amazon Instant, Google Play, Xbox, PlayStation, Vudu, Fandango, and through local cable/satellite providers.

Kino Classics: "THE HALF-BREED/THE GOOD BAD MAN" (1916) [BLU-RAY or DVD]

Kino Classics is proud to announce that two long-unseen early Douglas Fairbanks silent films, The Half-Breed and The Good Bad Man, are coming to Blu-ray and DVD on May 1.

Released in 1916, The Half-Breed represents Fairbanks' first effort at a serious acting role, a departure from the kind of light comedy that had made him a star on the stage and in his earliest film appearances. Also from 1916, The Good Bad Man is Fairbanks' first Western, and gives him one of his best roles of this early period of his career. Both films were directed by early Hollywood pioneer Allan Dwan, who later directed Fairbanks in such classics of the silent era as Robin Hood (1922) and The Iron Mask (1929).

Set to become available on Blu-ray and DVD May 1, this edition from Kino Classics contains special features including Amazing Tales From the Archives: Restoring The Half-Breed, audio commentaries on both films by film historian Tracey Goessel (author of The First King of Hollywood: The Life of Douglas Fairbanks) and film restorer Robert Byrne; and a photo gallery. Music scores for both films are composed and performed by Donald Sosin.

In an attempt to brand himself as a serious actor, the smiling swashbuckler Douglas Fairbanks starred in The Half-Breed (1916), a Western melodrama written by Anita Loos and directed with flair by Allan Dwan. Fairbanks stars as Lo Dorman, who has been ostracized from society because of his mixed ethnicity - his Native American mother was abandoned by his white father. When Lo catches the eye of the rich white debutante Nellie (Jewel Carmen), he becomes a target for the racist Sheriff Dunn (Sam De Grasse), who wants to break them up and take Nellie for his own. This love triangle becomes a quadrangle with the arrival of Teresa (Alma Rubens), who is on the run from the law. Through fire and fury Lo must decide who and what he truly loves.

What's important about this films, the year released and the release on a new digital format... this is film's history not lost.

The first video from Gleams, "The Camera's On," debuted exclusively via Facebook on April 27, and now has over 100k FB views. Famed artist Paul Whitehead (Genesis) painted the Gleams album cover.

MovieScore Media: "KAUFMAN'S GAME" Music by Philippe Jakko

MovieScore Media reunites with Allies composer Philippe Jakko for another tense thriller score using an unusual orchestral ensemble. Written and directed by Helier Bissell-Thomas, Kaufman’s Game tells the story of  Stanley (Jye Frasca), a young man who dream of becoming a champion boxer despite the fact his physical build makes him unsuitable for such heavy workload. When a stranger approaches him outside the gym with the offer of a specially produced steroid, Stanley gets drawn into the increasingly more violent operations of a powerful organization, while unwittingly entering into a series of tests designed to prove his mettle.

"The music had to be eerie, ominous, mysterious, with tension as a modern film noir," explains Philippe Jakko about the project. "In order to keep an anxiogenic ambiance,  I used unusual harmonies, atonal moments, glissandi, quarter tones; harmonics. But I didn’t want it to sound like an horror soundtrack, the music has to be sometimes cold, other times it needed to be warmer. I also used traditional leitmotif techniques, such as giving Stanley a soft piano arpeggio or a Moog synth for the Mafia guys." The score uses a small ensemble uses strings, horns, electronic synths, cristal baschet, vintage organ, programmings and a few parts for cello, played by soloist Eve Marie Caravassilis.

Composer Philippe Jakko graduated in musical high schools in Paris and Lyon where he studied harmony, counterpoint, composition and conducting with a music degree in musicology (on film scoring). Philippe is also a multi-instrumentalist: he plays the piano, guitars, keyboards, bass and the Arabic oud. His music for Valérie Donzelli Que D'Amour! won the Jerry Goldsmith Award in 2015. In 2017, he won an award for Le coeur en Braille at the Festival du Film en Famille in Quebec. Apart from film scoring, Philippe is also active in the world of ballet, he composed a hip hop opera and wrote several hit songs: "Yakalelo" (1998) and "Parce qu'on sait jamais" (2008) sold over 1,500,000 copies. His score for Allies was released by MovieScore Media in 2014.

Varese Sarabande: "Life of the Party"... Party-Filled Song Compilation Featuring Tracks From Cyndi Lauper, Meghan Trainor, The Sugarhill Gang, and more! With Original Music by Fil Eisler

Varèse  Sarabande is honored to announce the release of the Life of the Party – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and on CD on May 11, 2018. The album is a party-filled compilation of songs by artists including Meghan Trainor, Evie Sands, Cyndi Lauper, The Sugarhill Gang and Chick Norris with original music by Composer Fil Eisler (EMPIRE, THE TITAN).

Composer Fil Eisler and Director/Writer Ben Falcone where in agreement about the direction of the score from the beginning. “The conversations with Ben were always about story and character and about the mother daughter relationship between Melissa McCarthy’s character and Molly Gordon,” Eisler explained. “There is this woman who had been secure in her life for twenty something years suddenly being thrown out into a whole new world that she knew very little about. She feels vulnerable and naive in some ways but strong at the same time. We didn’t approach it from a comedic perspective at all.”

“The main theme, the ‘mother and daughter’ theme was basically the springboard for the whole score,” said Eisler. “It appears a few times but almost always in some new guise depending on the scene. It was really nice because there’s a hint of emotion in it, almost melancholy but a sort of resolve as well. It worked really well in the emotional scenes without pouring it on, and speeding it up turned it into this very upbeat triumphant cue when Melissa’s character is first starting to find her footing in college.”

Fil Eisler is one of today’s busiest and most diverse composers, with projects that range from big studio action pieces and comedies, to gritty independent films and hit television shows. Eisler recently scored Sony’s action thriller Proud Mary starring Taraji P. Henson, AMC’s new comedy series, Dietland, starring Joy Nash and Julianna Margulies, and the Netflix sci-fi thriller The Titan, starring Sam Worthington

Eisler’s inventive scores and signature themes enliven some of TV’s most popular series and notable films. He composes for Fox’s Golden Globe-nominated drama series Empire, where his tension filled orchestral cues provide a powerful contrast to the show’s hip-hop soundtrack, as well as Lifetime’s Peabody-winning series UnReaL, Bravo’s hit comedy drama series Girlfriends’ Guide To Divorce, and Showtime's Emmy-winning Shameless. Eisler was also both the composer and conductor for ABC’s breakout hit drama Revenge.  In addition, In 2017 Eisler completed the scores for Netflix’s drama To The Bone starring Lily Collins and Warner Bros.’ hilarious film reboot of the fan-favorite series, CHIPS, starring Dax Shepard, Michael Peña and Kristen Bell.

Tor Books: "By Fire Above" A Signal Airship (Volume 2) by Robyn Bennis

By Fire Above is the rip-roaring new adventure in Robyn Bennis's Signal Airship military fantasy series that Patricia Briggs hails as “full of sass and terrific characters.”

"All's fair in love and war," according to airship captain Josette Dupre, until her hometown of Durum becomes occupied by the enemy and her mother a prisoner of war. Then it becomes, "Nothing's fair except bombing those Vins to high hell."

Before she can rescue her town, however, Josette must maneuver her way through the nest of overstuffed vipers that make up Garnia's military and royal leaders in order to drum up support. The foppish and mostly tolerated Mistral crew member Lord Bernat steps in to advise her, along with his very attractive older brother.

Between noble scheming, under-trained recruits, and supply shortages, Josette and the crew of the Mistral figure out a way to return to Durum—only to discover that when the homefront turns into the frontlines, things are more dangerous than they seem.

ROBYN BENNIS is a scientist and airship aficionado living in Madison, Wisconsin. By Fire Above is the sequel to her debut novel, The Guns Above.
