Coinciding with the September 18th release of Lionsgate’s Antebellum, the motion picture starring Janelle Monáe, on premium on-demand platforms, Milan Records announces the same day release of ANTEBELLUM (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) with music by NATE “ROCKET” WONDER and ROMAN GIANARTHUR featured in the forthcoming Janelle Monáe-starring thriller. Best known for their work alongside Monáe as part of her Wondaland Arts Society, the production duo now bring their talents to the film world with their first-ever score collaboration. Combining darkly dramatic, orchestral strings with contemporary textures and influences, the resulting 14-track collection is the perfect companion to the film’s nightmarish narrative.

“Writing the score for Antebellum has been a rewarding adventure in creating a musical bed that compliments the script while becoming its own unique character and identity within the film. It was really wonderful to work with my brother on this, it was one of the most fulfilling experiences,” says NATE “ROCKET” WONDER of the project, adding, “Working with Janelle Monáe has also been a pleasure as always. We’ve done this a few times before and every time it is a thrilling experience to work on such intriguing ideas. It’s been especially heart-warming to work on this feature, as it is the next step in the evolution of her emotional pictures.”

“We’re thankful for the opportunity for this to be our first feature and to be working with Gerard and Chris on their first feature film as well,” continues ROMAN GIANARTHUR. "After reading the script we started ideating in Atlanta at the Wondaland studio, and began with simple voice memos. From there we brought in a violin, viola and cello to flesh the tone and direction of the score out. The process of shaping these voice memos and growing them to eventually be recorded with a symphony orchestra has been gratifying and an unforgettable experience.”

In Antebellum, successful author Veronica Henley (Janelle Monáe) finds herself trapped in a horrifying reality that forces her to confront the past, present and future – before it’s too late. Visionary filmmakers Gerard Bush + Christopher Renz (Bush | Renz) – best known for their pioneering advertising work engaged in the fight for social justice – write, produce and direct their first feature film, teaming with QC Entertainment, producer of the acclaimed films Get Out and BlacKkKlansman, Zev Foreman, Lezlie Wills, and Lionsgate for the mindbending new thriller Antebellum.

The film stars Janelle Monáe, Eric Lange, Jena Malone, Jack Huston, Kiersey Clemons, Gabourey Sidibe, Marque Richardson, Robert Aramayo, Lily Cowles, and introducing Tongayi Chirisa. La-La Land Records has something "COOL" coming soon!

Varèse Sarabande: "WILD WILD WEST" music by Elmer Bernstein

Varèse Sarabande Records is thrilled to announce its latest CD Club release: Wild Wild West (Deluxe Edition) Original Motion Picture Score with music composed and conducted by the late Academy Award®-winning Elmer Bernstein and performed by the Hollywood Studio Symphony. The original 10-track album has been expanded to 47 tracks and over 75 minutes of music, including alternate takes and cues that were not used in the film.  The Deluxe Edition soundtrack is limited to 2,000 copies, which is now available exclusively on and
Elmer Bernstein was an undisputed master of both westerns and comedies—to the point of being typecast in each genre, and he had essentially left both to spend most of the 1990s rehabilitating his “serious” status with directors like Martin Scorsese (The Age of Innocence) and Francis Ford Coppola (The Rainmaker). Bernstein agreed to score Wild Wild West because he loved director Barry Sonnenfeld’s 1997 action-comedy Men in Black. “When I got a chance to work with Barry Sonnenfeld and Will Smith, I thought, cool, I’d like to do this. And when I met Barry, I really liked him and we had a great relationship,” says Bernstein. The film gave him, who studied with the prototypical western composer Aaron Copland, a chance to write an unabashed, non-ironic throwback western theme—one that sits comfortably in his canon next to The Magnificent Seven (1960) and The Shootist (1976).
In the history of film music, Elmer Bernstein (1922–2004) is among the iconic and the legendary. With a career that spanned an unparalleled five decades, he composed more than 150 original movie scores and nearly 80 for television, creating some of the most recognizable and memorable themes in Hollywood history: the driving jazz of The Man with the Golden Arm, the rousing Western anthem of The Magnificent Seven, the lyrical and quietly moving music of To Kill a Mockingbird, and the jaunty, thumb-nosing march of The Great Escape. Bernstein’s last major film score was for the critically praised, Todd Haynes–directed drama, Far From Heaven, starring Julianne Moore and Dennis Haysbert. It earned him his final Academy Award® nomination in 2002. His impact is still felt, and his presence still missed, by movie-makers and moviegoers alike.

Milan Records: "PETS UNITED" music by David Newman

Milan Records announces the release of PETS UNITED (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) with music by renowned composer, conductor and orchestrator DAVID NEWMAN (Anastasia, Matilda, Ice Age).  Available everywhere August 28, the album features music written by Newman for the animated comedy-adventure film directed by Reinhard Klooss.  From Timeless Films, Pets United will be available to stream on Netflix beginning Friday, September 11.

Of the soundtrack, composer DAVID NEWMAN says, “I found inspiration for the music of Pets United from the film itself.  It is so lush and provocative. I always look to the film, the story, the characters for inspiration.  The theme of different people working together to solve a problem is a wonderful metaphor for our global society.”

When ROGER (a Robin Hood-esque, stray dog) and BELLE (an elegant yet spoilt pet cat) are thrown together amidst the chaos of a robot take-over of their home city, they must push all their preconceptions aside in order to survive, as they embark on a high-stakes, action-packed adventure.

Milan Records announces the August 28 release of ALL TOGETHER NOW (MUSIC FROM THE NETFLIX FILM) by composer and singer-songwriter KEEGAN DEWITT.  Available for preorder now, the album features music written by DeWitt for Netflix’s newest film starring Auli’i Cravalho (Moana).  The project reunites DeWitt with director Brett Haley, having previously worked together on titles including this year’s Netflix film All The Bright Places and 2018 Sundance favorite Hearts Beat Loud.  All Together Now will premiere globally on Netflix Friday, August 28.

Of the soundtrack, composer KEEGAN DEWITT says, “Brett works at such a clip, that it often feels like we are barely wrapping one project before stepping into another. Fresh of the full orchestral score of All The Bright Places, All Together Now offered a really wonderful refresh in terms of its tender simplicity.  This was such a raw and heartfelt project that we made sure to tend to it with a gentle and loving hand, walking that tightrope that is so true of family relationships.  From the drifting synths to the antithetic pounding drums, the score is often taking its lead from an amazing ensemble of actors, some beautifully agile cinematography from Rob, and of course Brett’s deft directing touch.”

Making its debut alongside today’s pre-order is an original track featuring the vocals of All Together Now lead Auli’I Cravalho – listen to “Feels Like Home” here.  Well known as the voice of Disney’s Moana, Auli’I once again brings her emotive vocal stylings to the track, performing the new track live on Entertainment Tonight – watch here.

“It was a rare and special opportunity to sit down and begin writing a song knowing that someone as deep and powerful as Auli’i would be singing,” adds composer KEEGAN DEWITT.  “I tried to embrace the challenge of creating space – simple chords with air between them, allowing space for her beautiful voice, her nuanced performance and her indelible presence as a person.”

Amber Appleton (Auli’i Cravalho) remains an optimist even when her personal life is far less stable than it appears on the surface. A musically gifted high school student with aspirations to attend Carnegie Mellon, Amber balances her beloved high school drama club helmed by Mr. Franks (Fred Armisen) with working long hours at a donut shop to help support herself and her down-on-her-luck single mom (Justina Machado). She also spends time at the local retirement community, giving care and attention to her favorite pessimistic resident (Carol Burnett). When new obstacles present themselves that threaten her dreams, Amber must learn to lean on the strength of her chosen family to move forward.  Directed by Brett Haley (All The Bright Places, Hearts Beat Loud) and based on Matthew Quick’s novel “Sorta Like a Rock Star,” ALL TOGETHER NOW is a story of finding hope in the darkest of times. The film co-stars Rhenzy Feliz, Judy Reyes, Taylor Richardson, C.S. Lee, Anthony Jacques Jr., and Gerald Isaac Waters.

Filmtrax/The Orchard: "THE TAX COLLECTOR" music by Michael Yezerski

Filmtrax (via BFD/The Orchard) has digitally released the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to David Ayer’s indie crime thriller The Tax Collector, which was released on August 7 by RLJE Films. The film topped the box office its opening weekend, claiming the No. 1 spot. The Hollywood Reporter says composer Michael Yezerski’s original score brings a sense of “churning dread.” The Tax Collector is available on digital and On Demand.
Contrary to what is expected for a crime thriller, David Ayer wanted a heartfelt score. Michael came up with an understated score that plays into the emotion, rather than the violence taking place on screen. Michael describes the music as “humanistic,” where he utilized his own vocals, guitars, and strings to accomplish this sound quality. The characters have tough exteriors, but the score hints at the undercurrent of emotional turmoil within them.
“With a blend of acoustic folk, hip hop, and Latin influences, this score sounds like nothing else I've done. I take inspiration from sounds that these characters would listen to in their daily lives. Yes, the music is gritty and dark, but it's also deeply humanistic and even beautiful at times. This is musical world-building to match the epic imagery and frenzied action of David Ayer's vision,” says Michael Yezerski.
ABOUT MICHAEL YEZERSKI... The composer’s musical works are highly evocative, original and diverse. From his Oakland-inspired score to Blindspotting to the avant-garde horror drones of The Devil’s Candy; from the Western-inspired action stylings of Deputy, to the lush period drama A Place To Call Home; Michael is hard to pigeonhole as a composer and yet brings a signature musical intensity and authenticity to every project he takes on.
Recent projects include Elissa Down’s hit Netflix film, Feel The Beat, David Ayer’s The Tax Collector, Deputy for Cedar Park, EOne and Fox and Nash Edgerton’s Mr Inbetween for FX. Keith Thomas’ terrifying The Vigil will be released in 2020.
Earlier career highlights include his first feature film The Black Balloon (winner of 8 AFI/AACTA Awards including Best Picture), PJ Hogan’s Mental, Wolf Creek Series 2, Catching Milat, Peter Allen, the Academy Award winning short, The Lost Thing and his collaboration with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, The Red Tree.

Intrada: "THE DON IS DEAD" Music Composed and Conducted by JERRY GOLDSMITH

Intrada's latest release features Jerry Goldsmith's score to the 1973 Universal Pictures film The Don is Dead. Following Intrada's earlier release this year of Take Her, She's Mine, Don is also a score never before released. Like other Goldsmith's scores of the period such as A Step Out of Line, the composer chose a lean, gritty, percussive approach, focusing on the suspense and tension of the proceedings. On top of the orchestra, Goldsmith introduces a lone, pulsating electronic motif to complete the natural acoustics, performed on stage live with the orchestra. The electronics provide a prominent rhythmic figure used during suspense scenes that build slowly and climax in exciting bursts of orchestral violence. Although a mafia film, sandwiched in between releases of The Godfather and The Godfather: Part II, Goldsmith offers no sweeping traditional Italian melodies like those films, but rather a more subtle theme for guitar and flute introduced later in the film. The film's love theme, "Our Last Night" is first heard in a vocal arrangement, on which Goldsmith collaborated with his wife, Carol.

This Intrada presentation of the complete score was mixed, edited and mastered from the ½” three-channel scoring session masters, stored in pristine condition within the Universal vaults.

Based on a novel by Marvin H. Albert, The Don Is Dead, the complex story had three young mob players—hot-headed Frank Regalbuto (Robert Forster) and brothers Tony (Frederic Forrest) and Vince (Al Lettieri) Fargo—becoming involved in a power struggle when Frank’s father, head of a mafia crime syndicate, dies and Frank is passed over for leadership in favor of elder statesman Don Angelo DiMorra (Anthony Quinn). Scheming capo Luigi Orlando (Charles Cioffi) and his greedy wife, Marie (Jo Anne Meredith), urge Frank’s girlfriend Ruby (Angel Tompkins), a would-be singer, to approach DiMorra for career help—and Ruby understands that seducing the lonely Don is the fast track to getting him in her corner. When a mysterious source leads the jealous Frank to an apartment Ruby shares with DiMorra, Frank goes berserk and beats Ruby brutally enough to put her in the hospital, pitting himself and his partners against the powerful Don DiMorra while Orlando and his wife wait to pick the spoils of the gang war.

Set in the Qing dynasty 230 years ago, this lush, epic drama brings to life the historical origins of Peking opera through the tale of two young opera singers who risk their lives to perform for the emperor at a special celebration for his 80th birthday.

Directed by Mei HU and written by Zou Jingzhi (Zhang Yimou’s “Coming Home,” Wong Kar Wai’s “The Grandmaster”), the film won the Chinese American Film Festival’s top prizes for best director and best feature film earlier this year and will forgo a planned theatrical release and to be released on Bluray, DVD and On Demand by Cinema Libre Studio starting August 18th.

Based entirely on historical events and figures from the Qing Dynasty, the period in which Peking Opera first began to flourish in Imperial China, the film was developed by Hu Mei over a period of six years. Production was significantly delayed due to a fire that burned down the studio the crew was utilizing, taking two years to complete in 2018.

No sets were designed for the film, which is shot entirely on location, although over 200 hand tailored costumes were created in order to replicate Peking Opera clothing from the Qing Dynasty. Hu is well-known in China for several acclaimed television and film works. Her previous film Confucius, which stars Chow Yun Fat, was released in the US in 2010.

To grasp the history behind the movie, Hu and her team traveled to the mountainous areas of China's Anhui province, where opera played a key part in the education of children.

"The role that opera plays here is that it condenses China's thousands of years of music, drama, politics, culture, worldly wisdom and moral principles into various repertoires," says Hu. "The about 1,000 popular opera songs in the area were passed down from parents to children, from generation to generation.”

Made with a budget of about $14.3 million (RMB100 million), it was distributed in China by state-owned Huaxia in theaters.

Yue Jiu, the most famous opera singer in all of Imperial China, is expelled from the capital city for vulgarity. He heads south, where he encounters Wang Runsheng, a promising young opera singer for the Chuntai Troupe. When the Emperor invites all of China’s opera troupes back to the capital city for a celebration, Yue Jiu and Runsheng are forced to choose between their reputations, their safety, and their love of opera.

WaterTower Music: "PERRY MASON" Season 1 music by Terence Blanchard

WaterTower Music is excited to announce the release of Perry Mason: Season 1 (Music From The HBO® Series), the soundtrack to the celebrated HBO series which stars Matthew Rhys. The full first season of Perry Mason is available to stream on HBO Max. The soundtrack album features an original score by six-time Grammy-winner, Oscar® nominated trumpeter/composer Terence Blanchard (Da 5 Bloods, BlacKkKlansman) who is featured on several of the tracks. Blanchard’s prolific musical contributions were woven into the fabric of each Perry Mason episode throughout the show’s acclaimed 1st season. So much so, in fact, that nearly an album’s worth of music was released after each episode aired, culminating in this 72-track Season 1 soundtrack album.
Blanchard reflected on his work on the project, while looking to the future of the series. “Perry Mason is an example of how like-minded people can come together from every aspect of the creative process to make something unique. I look forward to collaborating again with these brilliant minds on Season 2.”
Perry Mason: Season 1 (Music From The HBO® Series) features 72 tracks from the show’s first season and is now available on all digital platforms.
1931, Los Angeles. While the rest of the country struggles through the Great Depression, this city is booming! Oil! Olympic Games! Talking Pictures! Evangelical Fervor! And a child kidnapping gone very, very wrong! Based on characters created by Erle Stanley Gardner, this drama series follows the origins of American Fiction’s most legendary criminal defense lawyer, Perry Mason.  When the case of the decade breaks down his door, Mason’s relentless pursuit of the truth reveals a fractured city and just maybe, a pathway to redemption for himself.
Oscar® nominee, six-time Grammy-winner and 2018 USA Fellow trumpeter/composer Terence Blanchard has been a consistent artistic force for making powerful musical statements concerning painful American tragedies – past and present.
From his expansive work composing the scores for Spike Lee films ranging from the documentary When the Levees Broke, about Blanchard’s hometown of New Orleans during the devastation from Hurricane Katrina to the epic Malcolm X; and the latest Lee film, Da 5 Bloods, Blanchard has interwoven melodies that created strong backdrops to human stories.
Blanchard received an Oscar® nomination for his original score for Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman.  He was also BAFTA nominated for his original music for the film.  He won a Grammy for Best Instrumental Composition for writing “Blut Und Boden (Blood and Soil)” a track from BlacKkKlansman.
More recently, Blanchard has composed his second opera, Fire Shut Up in My Bones, based on the memoir of celebrated writer and The New York Times columnist Charles Blow.  The libretto was written by Kasi Lemmons and commissioned by Opera Theatre of Saint Louis where it premiered in June 2019.  The New York Times has called Blanchard’s opera “inspiring,” “subtly powerful” and “a bold affecting adaptation of Charles Blow’s work.”  The Metropolitan Opera of New York will premiere Fire in 2022-23, making it the first opera composed by an African American composer to premiere at the MET.  Blanchard’s first opera, Champion also premiered to critical acclaim in 2013 at OTSL and starred Denyce Graves with a libretto from Pulitzer Prize Winner, Michael Cristofer.
With his current quintet E-Collective, featured on the score to BlacKkKlansman with a 96-piece orchestra, Blanchard delivered “a soaring, seething, luxuriant score,” the New York Times. In Vice Magazine, Blanchard elaborates, “In BlacKkKlansman it all became real to me. You feel the level of intolerance that exists for people who ignore other people’s pain. Musically, I can’t ignore that. I can’t add to that intolerance. Instead I have to help people heal from it. “
Some of Blanchard’s other film credits include the Kasi Lemmons’ films, Eve’s Bayou; Talk to Me; and Harriet; George Lucas’ Red Tails; and Tim Story’s Barbershop.  Blanchard also wrote the original score for the powerful documentary On the Record which was directed and produced by Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering and premiered on HBO Max on May 27.
Regarding his consistent attachment to artistic works of conscience, Blanchard confesses, “You get to a certain age when you ask, ‘Who’s going to stand up and speak out for us?’ Then you look around and realize that the James Baldwins, Muhammad Alis and Dr. Kings are no longer here...and begin to understand that it falls on you. I’m not trying to say I’m here to try to correct the whole thing, I’m just trying to speak the truth.” In that regard, he cites unimpeachable inspirations. “Max Roach with his ‘Freedom Now Suite,’ John Coltrane playing ‘Alabama,’ even Louis Armstrong talking about what was going on with his people any time he was interviewed. Herbie Hancock & Wayne Shorter who live by their Buddhist philosophy and try to expand the conscience of their communities. I’m standing on all of their shoulders. How dare I come through this life having had the blessing of meeting those men and not take away any of that? Like anybody else, I’d like to play feel good party music but sometimes my music is about the reality of where we are.”
WaterTower Music, the in-house label for the WarnerMedia companies, releases recorded music as rich and diverse as the companies themselves. It has been the soundtrack home to many of the world’s most iconic films, television shows and games since 2001.

Quiver: "SKIN: A HISTORY OF NUDITY IN THE MOVIES" - Available On Demand August 18th

A definitive documentary on the history of nudity in the movies, beginning with the silent movie era through present day, examining the changes in morality that led to the use of nudity in films while emphasizing the political, sociological and artistic changes that shaped this rich history.

Skin delves  into the gender bias concerning nudity in motion pictures and will follow the revolution that has pushed for gender equality in feature films today. A deep discussion of pre-code Hollywood and its amoral roots, the censorship that “cleaned up” Hollywood and how the MPAA was formed leads into a discussion of how nudity changed cinematic culture through the decades. It culminates in a discussion of “what are nude scenes like in the age of the #METOO movement?”

Peter Bogdanovich (The Last Picture Show, Paper Moon, Targets, Saint Jack)
Shannon Elizabeth (American Pie, Scary Movie, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back)
Diane Franklin (The Last American Virgin, Better Off Dead, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure)
Pam Grier (The Big Doll House, Jackie Brown, Foxy Brown, Above the Law)
Amy Heckerling (Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Look Who’s Talking, Clueless)
Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange, Caligula, Startrek: Generations, Halloween)
Eric Roberts (Runaway Train, Inherent Vice, Star 80)
Kevin Smith (Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Clerks, Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back)
Sean Young (Blade Runner, Dune, No Way Out, Wall Street)
Jim McBride (creator of Mr. Skin)

It was a great documentary and not to sound too puny "it was pretty revealing", I learned so much as they covered the history. From the views of people jumping into nudity with out a care or second thought and then I forgot about Mary Poppins.

Of the soundtrack, composers MONDO BOYS say, “We knew the score had to be able to handle the depth of a true existential crisis, yet not take away from the subtle comedy that is all around the story. We realized with Amy the way to score it, was to just go for a fully indulgent dark opera.”

“Mondo Boys were integral to the development of She Dies Tomorrow,” adds director AMY SEIMETZ.  “I sent them footage early on and they immediately sent me back a track that became one of the inspirations for filming the rest of the movie.  I am so wildly thrilled by every piece of music they send to me. They have the ability to tastefully interpret scenes and make minor adjustments to score at such a rapid pace.  I am endlessly lucky to work with artists who have great instincts and who trust me.”

After waking up convinced that she is going to die tomorrow, Amy’s carefully mended life begins to unravel. As her delusions of certain death become contagious to those around her, Amy and her friends’ lives spiral out of control in a tantalizing descent into madness.
