MovieScore Media: OUTCAST [2015] - Guillaume Roussel

Following the release of Last Knights earlier this year, MovieScore Media presents another Medieval action/adventure score, courtesy of French composer Guillaume Roussel. Directed by Nick Powell, Outcast tells the story of the heir to the Imperial throne who becomes the target of an assassination by his despised older brother. The young prince finds protection with war-weary crusader named Jacob (Hayden Christensen),and the mythical outlaw known only as The White Ghost (Nicholas Cage). The unlikely trio must fight together in an epic battle to return the prince to his rightful place on the throne.

French composer Guillaume Roussel is becoming one of the most promising composers in France. He wrote music for his first French feature film in 2012 with Les seigneurs for director Olivier Dahan (after a previous collaboration on La vie en rose as an orchestrator); they collaborated two years later on Grace of Monaco starring Nicole Gidman and Tim Roth. His other important credits include McG’s Three Days to Kill and Cedric Jimenez’s La French starring Jean Dujardin. Working as a composer in Hans Zimmer’s Remote Control Productions team, Guillaume‘s contributions can be heard in the scores for James L. Brooks’ How Do You Know?, Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides and the 2012 Academy Award Ceremony.

Fans of of Hans Zimmer early epic scores will have a smile on their faces listening to Roussel’s score for Outcast, which has thematic similarities to popular Zimmer scores such as The Last Samurai and King Arthur. "The challenge was to find a strong theme that would lead the journey of the characters: the kid, the young warrior and the white ghost an allegory of a men's life path and the intent of the music is to bound all three together. Some of the main inspirations are Medieval music through the use of viola da gamba and that contralto singing in Latin, but there is also Chinese music with the use of Guzheng for the romantic theme. I'm hoping that the music on the album will be able to showcase the whole journey through this very eclectic world: Crusaders fighting Moors, an Indian salt caravan cruising in the Chinese desert, a little kid becoming an Emperor and finally a man finding redemption." The music also features countertenor solos by MovieScore Media’s very own producer Mikael Carlsson ("Crusades"), who recorded his voice especially for this album release.

Lakeshore Records: PAY THE GHOST [2015] - Joseph LoDuca

Lakeshore Records will release the PAY THE GHOST – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on September 18th and on later this year. The album features the film’s original score by Joseph LoDuca (SPARTACUS, ASH VS. THE EVIL DEAD).

“There are three aspects to my music for PAY THE GHOST that made the experience memorable,” said LoDuca. “I am pleased with the result of my close collaboration with Uli Edel (director) on a horror/thriller score that relied primarily on electronic sound. Over several sessions together, creating dark atmospheres with a gnawing sense of tension was our primary objective.”

A supernatural thriller based on a short story by Tim Lebbon. PAY THE GHOST kicks off on Halloween night, when a couple's young son is mysteriously abducted. A year later, they begin to sense his presence in frightening ways. A string of terrifying clues draws them to search for the boy throughout New York, where they uncover ancient secrets and discover a vicious, vengeful spirit.

“The first piece I wrote was ‘The Portal Song’, which is sung in Gaelic by a children’s chorus,” described LoDuca. “Their chant sets the third act in motion. The film needed a song that felt pagan, yet plausible for the setting of a neighborhood park in New York City on Halloween. We also recorded wild screams from the children, which Uli brilliantly juxtaposed to score the rescue of Nicholas Cage’s character, Michael Cole, from the Crone.”

Joseph LoDuca’s life-long love affair with music began with deep rock and jazz roots coming up through the rich music scene in the Motor City; to university studies of composition and guitar in New York; expanding further to absorb the musical languages of the Middle East, India, and Asia, finding fresh contexts for ancient sounds. “I understand the language of music and how to apply it to storytelling. What excites me is being able to inject who I am and what I discover every time I work closely with a filmmaker.”

He began his film career scoring director Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead Trilogy, and has continued that relationship through the top-rated television series Spartacus, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, and Emmy winners The Legend of the Seeker and Xena: Warrior Princess.

A Two-time EMMY® Award winner and eleven-time nominee, composer Joseph LoDuca is no stranger to large orchestra action/adventure, fantasy, and thriller music. His latest projects are the Horror/Comedy BURYING THE EX and the highly anticipated television series Ash vs Evil Dead.

“The third element was the street band source music for the Halloween fair that occurs at two points in the film,” said LoDuca. “Craig Flores, our producer, came up with the idea of an additional ‘creepy fun house’ piece. That immediately triggered in me images of Federico Fellini and Nino Rota, and added a surreal edge to those scenes. A word of caution: Don’t expect to be soothed here. But if you were thrilled and terrified by the emotional ride of PAY THE GHOST, you’ll relive it now in sound.”

Voltage Pictures and RLJ Entertainment present PAY THE GHOST in theaters and VOD on September 23, 2015. Lakeshore Records will release the PAY THE GHOST – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on September 18th, and on CD later this year.

WEDNESDAY Soundtrack and Score for Upcoming COMIC BOOK!

Lakeshore Records will release the WEDNESDAY companion soundtrack and score albums digitally on September 18, 2015.  Both albums feature contributions from various bands and guest performers. The soundtrack album contains original music from Daniel Davies (Year Long Disaster) and Geno Lenardo (Filter, Device), including the lead single ‘K So by Daniel Davies released earlier this year.  WEDNESDAY is written and illustrated by John Bergin (FROM INSIDE).

“I love the concept of comic book soundtracks. Every comic book I’ve written or illustrated also included a suggested soundtrack in the index,” said Bergin.  “I can even say I may be the first person to score a comic! In the early 1990’s I wrote and recorded a score for The Crow graphic novel.”

John Bergin’s life has been spent creating art as both a writer/illustrator of comics and a musician, most notably in the band Trust Obey. After writing/illustrating the comic ASHES, Bergin went to Tundra (the publishing company founded by Kevin Eastman, creator of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) who published Bergin’s graphic novel FROM INSIDE in 1994.  At the same time, Trust Obey was signed to Trent Reznor’s Nothing Records. Towing both artistic lines, Bergin created numerous graphic novels, while simultaneously working on musical projects including a WARHAMMER 40K score, Tertium Non Data (featuring Pam Bricker of Thievery Corp), Lolo, and Blackmouth (with Jarboe of Swans).

In 2008 Bergin adapted FROM INSIDE to screen.  The animated feature played the festival circuit from 2008-2010 – earning numerous awards including Best Animated Film at SITGES. In 2014 From Inside was released with an original score by legendary electronic music pioneer, Gary Numan.

WEDNESDAY marks a stylistic change for Bergin, who is usually associated with dark and gloomy work. The story is told from the perspective of a sixteen-year-old girl living in a post-apocalyptic world. The book features larger-than-life characters, vibrant colors, pulse-pounding action, and humor. Bergin has coined the phrase “Pop-apocalypse” to describe the comic.

Bergin turned to Daniel Davies and Geno Lenardo to compose the soundtrack for Wednesday.  “Daniel and Geno are incredibly versatile musicians,” said Bergin. “Their work that you may be familiar with sounds heavy and dark. The I, Frankenstein soundtrack, John Carpenter’s new album, Filter, and Device for example… but I heard a playfulness and sensitivity in their music that I thought would be a great fit for Wednesday.”  A musician himself, Bergin also contributed to the WEDNESDAY score album.

MovieScore Media: Je te survivrai - Stephen Warbeck

The latest release of MovieScore Media arrives from France and is provided by Academy Award winning composer Stephen Warbeck. Co-written and directed by Sylvestre Sbille, Je te survivrai (I’ll Bury You) is about forty-something property broker Joe (Jonathan Zaccaï) who is at the top of his game when it comes to his job, but is a failure in all other aspects of life. Still, the most despicable thing he does is his plan to expropriate and old lady, an idea which leads him down a pit where he could stop his victim’s water supply - the only problem is he can’t get back on the surface. What follows is a time of introspection dashed with dark humor as Joe finds himself at the low point of his life - quite literally.

Stephen Warbeck’s score for Je te survivrai is an eclectic mixture of Western-flavored twang, laid back jazz and contemporary Euro-thriller scoring for moments of great suspense. One of the strongest characters of the score is the desolate landscape represented by the guitar-based themes introduced in "The Angry Neighbour" and further shown in "In the Well", showing us Joe’s hopeless situation of finding any help. "Water" presents the most extended version of the action-thriller music as Joe’s life is jeopardized by the elements; finally Bicycle Ride” and ”The Farm” highlight the jazzier aspect’s of the composer’s colorful contributions to this most unexpected thrill-ride.

Born in 1953 in Southampton, British composer Stephen Warbeck has worked on over 100 different feature films and television projects. His best-known score was arguably written for John Madden’s Shakespeare in Love (1998) for which he won one of the film’s seven Academy Awards in the category of Best Music, Original Musical or Comedy Score. Some of his other credits include the underscore for the musical hit Billy Elliot (2000), the De Sade biopic Quills (2000) and the math mystery drama Proof (2005). The composer’s previous release with MovieScore Media was Princess Ka’iulani (2009), a historical drama about a Hawaiian princess' attempt to maintain the independence of the islands against colonization.

Lakeshore Records: ZIPPER [2015] - H. Scott Salinas

Lakeshore Records will release ZIPPER – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on August 28, 2015.  The film features original score by H. Scott Salinas (THE SQUARE, CARTEL LAND).

“Scott and I have been long time collaborators – he composed the score for my first feature Conventioneers – and I started talking to him about Zipper when it was still a script,” said director Mora Stephens. “He got sucked into the obsession early on (bless him!) and was watching dailies, and experimenting with music while we were early in the cut. I wanted the music to be dark, brooding, emotional, sexy, intense, psychological, visceral, bold – to heighten the thriller elements of the story, but most importantly, pull us further into our hero’s emotional subjective experience.”

“I was involved in the project very early at the script stage, and was following production closely even watching dailies. So we had a great creative dialogue established very early,” described Salinas. “We sort of stumbled on the idea together of making the soul of Sam (our protagonist) be a cello.  And then we pushed further and asked, what if we used a cello choir? So we wound up recording eight celli arranged in a semi-circle as a choir. So we constantly shift from the choir to solo cello processed electronically in ways to disguise its nature.”

Zipper is about Sam, a federal prosecutor on the fast track to political success who risks his promising career and family life to indulge the ever-obsessive impulses of his secret addiction to escorts.

“The cello concept got us very far into the film then we realized we needed to balance the dark romantic quality of the cello with something more noble, Sam's noble side that he ultimately abandons,” described Salinas. “For that we choose a very small violin ensemble playing very delicately and that was just the contrast we needed to represent Sam’s honorable side. Also, there is a reoccurring theme played in distant electronic bells. This theme represents the subconscious tingling of addiction.  It seems harmless enough but its subtle persistence mirrors the desire bubbling up inside of Sam, a sirens call from inside that void that can't be filled.”

Award-winning composer, H. Scott Salinas has contributed towards an impressive variety of notable projects including the Academy Award nominated documentary film The Square, HBO and Aaron Sorkin’s smash hit The Newsroom, World of Coca-Cola’s 4-D ride In Search of the Secret Formula, and the wildly popular Spider-Man 3: The Video Game.

After graduating from Princeton University, where he studied classical and jazz music, Salinas continued his training at Berklee College of Music with a concentration in scoring for picture. In 2002, he became the youngest Grand Prize recipient of the Turner Classic Movies Young Film Composers Competition, and has since composed songs and original scores for dozens of feature films, video games, commercials, and high-profile television shows. Along with accolades such as the prestigious Cannes Lion and Clio awards, Salinas’ accomplishments have earned him esteem and recognition as a highly versatile yet specialized talent. ?From composing the brooding hybrid orchestral score to the Darren Aronofsky-produced ZIPPER, to his original song “Jamie Smiles” written for the cult comedy classic Just Friends, to acting as the instrumental mouthpiece behind the Old Spice whistle, his ability to create a meaningful impact for a wide spectrum is showcased through his work. Salinas is currently working on TNT's hit thriller, Murder in the First, returning for a second season this summer.

“I can’t help but geek out at the unique worlds H. Scott Salinas creates with his music, each film score completely different and original,” Stephens said.  “At our premiere at the Sundance Film Festival this year, Richard Dreyfuss repeatedly urged: ‘I recommend everyone listening to the score.’ And I second that.”

Alchemy presents ZIPPER premiering in theaters and VOD August 28, 2015.  Lakeshore Records will release ZIPPER – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally in North America on August 28, 2015.

MovieScore Media: The Creep Behind the Camera - John Schuermann

MovieScore Media continues its exploration of fascinating documentaries with the docudrama The Creep Behind the Camera, a shocking exposé written and directed by Pete Schuermann about notorious cult filmmaker Art J. Nelson. Nelson wrote, produced, edited and starred in The Creeping Terror, a low-budget 1964 horror about a monster consuming teenagers. The worst horror of all times was plagued by dozens of production problems, most notoriously Art’s dishonest methods of obtaining financing that lead to the director’s disappearance from filmmaking. Schuermann’s film not only unearths what happened to the gonzo filmmaker, but presents his psychological issues that earned him the nickname "Creep."

Pete and John Schuermann have been active in the Colorado filmmaking community for over 30 years. Originally from Long Island, NY, when the Schuermann family moved to Colorado in 1977 the experience had a profound effect on the budding filmmakers. Their first film Hick Trek was a project for a group of Star Trek fans whom the brothers had met in Colorado Springs. Since then, Pete had directed / co-directed several films (Alice in Wasteland, the documentary Disneyland: Secrets, Stories, & Magic) while John also composed the music and created sound design for over half a dozen feature films and shorts. His most recent work is the underwater thriller Halcyon. John is also a writer and director himself, hard at work on his own film The Gospel According to Stephenson, currently in pre-production.

"My main goal in writing the music was to establish the era in which the events took place -  the late ‘50s through the mid ‘60s - and to musically represent Art J. Nelson, the titular Creep" explains John about the music. "As he was a psychopath who conned his way into making The Creeping Terror, I tried to convey the idea that the real monster was “behind" the camera using two primary musical concepts. The first was to employ familiar "monster movie" tropes whenever the Art would commit particularly monstrous acts in the film, and then juxtapose this with music I refer to as "sleaze jazz" to represent the "con man" element of his character. I thought this approach would fit the darkly comic nature of the film as a whole and painted a portrait of a character who was a creep in every sense of the word.”

CBS: THE GOOD WIFE: THE SIXTH SEASON

In the 6th season of The Good Wife, Alicia is presented with several interesting options: run for State's Attorney, or lure Diane to her new firm and continue to fight cases in the cutthroat world of Chicago law.

Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) stood by her husband (Chris Noth) on his tumultuous path to the governor's office, but now she's entering the world of politics on her own terms by running for state's attorney. As Election Day approaches, Alicia must balance the demands of her firm and campaign as she supports her partner Cary (Matt Czuchry) during shocking developments that could end his career...and life as he knows it. Julianna Margulies returns in the role that earned her two Primetime Emmy Awards(R) and stars with Archie Panjabi, Christine Baranki, Alan Cumming and a roster of stellar guests in Season Six of the gripping series that critics call "...TV's best drama" (Slate).

Show is H...O...T... HOT! Six seasons of strong, nail biting episodes and we the viewers tuning in for every flip of Alicia's hair! I really don't care for the cover art, kind of weakens the character's power with a wisp of lipstick.

CBS: ELEMENTARY: THE THIRD SEASON

In the 3rd season of Elementary, Watson has moved out of the brownstone and Holmes has accepted a job offer in London from MI6, the British intelligence agency. Now, the biggest puzzle these detectives must solve is how to move forward separately in the wake of their professional partnership's demise.

Perfect Crimes Meet the Perfect Match. In the City That Never Sleeps, one mind never rests. The eccentric detective Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) possesses an unquenchable thirst for intellectual puzzles and a ruthless instinct for justice. As a consulting detective to the NYPD, he takes on bizarre cases that baffle the most seasoned cops. But he can't do it alone. Holmes relies on Joan Watson (Lucy Liu), a former physician who's the one person who can keep up with his racing mind. Their partnership may be challenging, but it's nowhere near as difficult as the impossible mysteries that lead them on breathtaking chases through New York City's maddening maze. Join the hunt in the 24 episodes of the third season, collected in this six-disc set.

Another grand season, leaving some unfinished business... Can you dig it? Yes, yes... you can!

Olive Films: ALICIA SILVERSTONE, TIMOTHY HUTTON, KATHRYN HARROLD... FIRST TIME ON BLU-RAY!

THE BABYSITTER [1995]: Alicia Silverstone, winner of the National Board of Review’s Best Breakthrough Performer Award for her performance in Clueless, is Jennifer, the object of lust and desire in THE BABYSITTER.  Harry and Dolly Tucker (J.T. Walsh and Lee Carlington), out for an evening at a party hosted by Bill and Bernice Holston (George Segal and Lois Chiles), hire high school student Jennifer (Silverstone) to babysit their two children. Jennifer will find herself the recipient of unwanted advances from her estranged boyfriend Jack (Jeremy London), a manipulative and threatening acquaintance, Mark (Nicky Katt) and -- in the case of a very drunken Harry -- the object of erotic fantasies. What begins as a quiet evening of babysitting escalates into a series of emotional confrontations, physical altercations and a life-shattering event in the tension-filled The Babysitter.

The Babysitter, directed by Guy Ferland (Telling Lies In America) from a screenplay by Robert Coover (TV’s Alexandria), features compelling performances by Alicia Silverstone (Clueless), Jeremy London (Mallrats), Nicky Katt (Sin City), George Segal (A Touch of Class), Lois Chiles (The Way We Were), J.T. Walsh (A Few Good Men) and Lee Carlington (One Hour Photo). MORE INFORMATION [CLICK HERE]

DANIEL [1983]: Academy Award-winner Timothy Hutton (Best Supporting Actor, Ordinary People) stars as the title character in Sidney Lumet’s (the 2005 Honorary Academy Award-winner) dramatic tale Daniel, based on E.L. Doctorow’s The Book of Daniel.  Adapted for the screen by E.L. Doctorow (from his novel The Book of Daniel), Daniel, a fictionalized account of the Julius and Ethel Rosenberg case, stars Timothy Hutton as Daniel Isaacson, an anti-war activist whose parents, branded as spies, were put to death by the U.S. government. Believing that his parents were wrongly convicted and executed, Daniel sets out to clear their name in this taught, dramatic film directed by master filmmaker Sidney Lumet.

Mandy Patinkin and Lindsay Crouse give heart-wrenching performances as Daniel’s parents, with supporting turns by Edward Asner , Ellen Barkin and Amanda Plummer.

THE SENDER [1982]: Two-time Academy Award-nominee Shirley Knight (Best Supporting Actress for Dark At The Top Of The Stairs and Sweet Bird Of Youth) stars as the malevolent mother of the mysterious psychiatric patient known as John Doe #83 in the chiller The Sender. In this psychological horror film, Zeljko Ivanek (TV’s Damages, Argo) stars as John Doe #83, a patient admitted to a psychiatric hospital after a suicide attempt. When Dr. Gail Farmer (Kathryn Harrold, TV’s The Rockford Files, The Hunter), the psychiatrist assigned to his case, begins experiencing vivid hallucinations, she suspects that she may be telepathically connected to her new patient, envisioning what he is experiencing in real time.

As terrifying, dream-like episodes escalate, the audience is drawn into a realm that lies between the waking and sleeping world.

Rounding out the cast in the Roger Christian (Bandido, Prisoners Of The Sun) directed film are Paul Freeman (Raiders of the Lost Ark) as Dr. Denman, Dr. Farmer's skeptical colleague, and Shirley Knight (As Good As It Gets) as Jerolyn, a woman who holds the clue to the identity of The Sender.

Olive Films: STUDENT BODIES [1981]

Mickey Rose, famed comedy writer responsible for the early Woody Allen films Banana's and Take The Money And Run, directs Student Bodies, a tongue-in-cheek spoof of the slasher film genre.

The thin line between comedy and horror is hilariously explored in Student Bodies, a spoof of contemporary slasher films such as Halloween, When A Stranger Calls, Friday the 13th. The body count is rising at Lamab High School where a goulashes-wearing, eggplant/chalkboard eraser/paperclip-wielding serial killer is taking out promiscuous teens at breakneck speed. When intrepid high school student, Toby (Kristen Riter) goes in search of clues that will reveal the killer’s identity, no one is safe from the comic hijinks. Teachers, fellow students, parents and the quadruple jointed janitor are all likely suspects in a film directed by Mickey Rose (co-writer on Woody Allen’s Take The Money And Run and Bananas).

KRISTEN RITER (Pure '80s DVD: Video Idols)
MATTHEW GOLDSBY (Frances)
JERRY BELSON (The Couch Trip, Modern Romance)
JOE FLOOD (A View To A Kill, Switch)

Directed by:
MICKEY ROSE (Banana's screenwriter; Take The Money And Run co-screenwriter)

Interview with Composer... Frederik Wiedmann

Jeremy [The Wolf]: Tell us about how you became involved in "Justice League: Gods and Monsters" and how does it feel to be one of the top "go to" people for DC Universe Animated... which is awesome by the way?

Frederik Wiedmann: I feel incredibly honored to be trusted by Warner Brothers Animation for so many of their projects. I really love working on them, it’s been such a wonderful couple of years filled with superheroes in my studio.

In terms of Justice League GAM, I am not entirely sure how it all went down, but I did get a call at some point from WB offering me the job. I knew Bruce was involved in this one, and I get extremely excited. Working with him and Giancarlo Volpe on Green Lantern TAS was such an inspiring year and half for me, and I was thrilled to work for Bruce again.

Jeremy [The Wolf]: How do you find your inspiration from project to project and is there another artist/composer you listen too currently that moves you?

Frederik Wiedmann: I get mostly inspired by the visuals that I am looking at, combined with what I hear during my conversations with my film makers. Often the people that I work with (Producers, Directors) have a very clear idea about what they want in the music, how they want to audience to feel, and how they want to movie to feel. Based on all these things my head usually starts spinning and I go! I am a big film music nut, so I do listen to a lot of it myself, when I am driving my kids to school (My 4-year old loves Pirate of the Caribbean music!) and on my own time. I think my favorite composers are John Powell (how to Train Your Dragon, Bourne), Henry Jackman (Captian America, Big Hero 6), Christophe Beck (Ant-Man, Frozen). These three continue to inspire me with each score they bring out. I love it.

Jeremy [The Wolf]: Share your recent involvement in "Spectrum" and your opportunity to get the message out for this cause?

Frederik Wiedmann: Spectrum was a very special project. I know Jill Jones (Director) and Brent Yontz (Producer) very well now, and they are so incredibly talented. Spectrum is a very unique look at Autism, a very optimistic look. I really wanted to convey the message of the doc with the music as well. When you see the film (available on vimeo), you will see that it is a very fresh way to look at Autism, and it is a really incredible experience to see through the eyes of the people in the movie. We wanted the audiecne to see that there is a certain beauty in the perception of an autistic person, which sometimes can be inspiring (like for the Poet or the Painter). The music really had to support the message of the doc, to look at Autism not as a disease, but as a different way to see the world.

Jeremy [The Wolf]: What is next?

Frederik Wiedmann: I have a great thriller coming out soon (not sure when the release date will be at this point), it’s called ‘Shut In”, starring Beth Riesgraf. It’s a really great story with lots of great twists, so keep a look out for that one. Also more DC work in the pipeline, The titles of these will be revealed in time.

Also, if you have Netflix, you can always tune in for more ‘All Hail King Julien” (a Madagascar spin-off), or my new show “Miles form Tomorrowland” on Disney Junior.

Lakeshore Records: STATEN ISLAND SUMMER [SCORE/SOUNDTRACK]

Lakeshore Records will release the STATEN ISLAND SUMMER – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on August 14th and the STATEN ISLAND SUMMER – Original Motion Picture Score digitally on August 21, 2015.  The score album features original music by John Swihart (NAPOLEON DYNAMITE, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER). The soundtrack, compiled by music supervisor Mark Wike (Netflix’s BLOODLINE, NCIS: LOS ANGELES, HUNG), features songs by artists including King Khan & The Shrines, Rjd2, Ugly Duckling, Lowell, Zeus, and Chuck & Mac.

“Rhys Thomas [director] was very good at expressing himself when it came to score,” said Swihart. “He had the idea of this place being something out of the past or ‘stuck in time’ as well as just being a little off in general. It was very tempting to punctuate funny comedy with music, but Rhys wanted to stay away from that as much as possible. We ended up letting all the ‘funny comedy’ play and all the ‘threatening comedy’ or ‘high stakes comedy’ we did punctuate with music.”

John Swihart was raised in Bloomington, Indiana, the son of a physicist based at Indiana University. He spent a portion of his formative years in Europe and Asia, where his father would sabbatical. John studied Classical Piano under Nola Heiden (wife of Bernhard Heiden) at age 5 at Indiana University, he then played Sax from 8-12 and then guitar. Swihart would leave Indiana to attend the renowned Berklee College of Music, in Boston, where he majored in composition and production and engineering.

After years of performing in numerous bands, experimental performances, studio session work as a guitar player, and remixer with local DJ's. John put his own studio together and moved into writing and producing music for picture. When Swihart got to Los Angeles, he scored a few Independent films before his breakout project NAPOLEON DYNAMITE premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2004. John has been busy ever sense scoring almost 50 films and half as many TV shows, including the hit CBS sitcom HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER.

From producer Lorne Michaels, creator of “Saturday Night Live,” and written by SNL’s Colin Jost, STATEN ISLAND SUMMER from Paramount Insurge is an outrageous coming-of-age comedy about a hilarious group of misfit lifeguards on a mission to throw the wildest party of the summer. Featuring an all-star cast of SNL favorites including Cecily Strong, Fred Armisen, Bobby Moynihan and Will Forte, along with Jim Gaffigan, Kate Walsh and Ashley Greene, Staten Island Summer is the must-see comedy that celebrates good times, great friends and having no regrets.

“All the emotional spots were scored traditionally with strings and piano but not without the help of a lot of electronic elements,” Swihart explained. “The 70's style funk stuff was a lot of hand percussion in particular some bongo lines that were played by a great percussionist from Santo Domingo named Reynold Roque. He also played all the Taiko drums for the suspense montage.”

STATEN ISLAND SUMMER is currently available for digital download.  Lakeshore Records will release the STATEN ISLAND SUMMER – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on August 14th and the STATEN ISLAND SUMMER – Original Motion Picture Score digitally on August 21, 2015.
