Howlin' Wolf Records: OUR 42 RELEASE... "GHOST HOUSE" music by Rich Ragsdale

Howlin' Wolf Records is very proud to present GHOST HOUSE, a richly textured, haunting, and beautiful score by director and composer Rich Ragsdale. For GHOST HOUSE the composer used a three-tiered approach, anchored by a classical symphonic horror score recorded using the Budapest Scoring Orchestra conducted by Péter Pejtsik. This is augmented by 80's synth elements, paying homage to scores by Goblin and John Carpenter. Finally, ambient ethnic sounds were incorporated to honor Thailand where the film is set, featuring monks recorded live in a Thai temple. The album concludes with a melodically lovely, yet eerie vocal track gorgeously performed by Sherri Chung.

It's available... it's awesome, truly a masterpiece. "GHOST HOUSE" Music Composed by Rich Ragsdale, Performed by the Budapest Scoring Orchestra and Conducted by Péter Pejtsik! [http://howlinwolfrecords.com/]

Fourteen Kings Music: "TRAUMA THERAPY" music by award winning composer Scott Glasgow

Fourteen Kings Music will release soundtrack to TRAUMA THERAPY featuring music by award winning composer Scott Glasgow.  LA group of broken souls attend a self-help seminar at a remote wooded retreat with a famous guru. In search of better lives, they must confront their deepest demons in the midst of their fellow wayward strangers. As they get pushed further and further by the program, they begin to confront their personal problems. But as their group therapy sessions become increasingly volatile - including lie detectors, fire arms, and experimental drugs - they begin to question the methods in spite of the results. What is their guru's real goal, and will his reckless pursuit of life change moments end up saving them...or destroying them?

A note from the composer: The score to TRAUMA THERAPY is an unapologetic synthesizer based score with some light use of strings, harp and percussion. The main impetus when starting this project was the fact that a new hardware synth (Korg Minilogue) was purchased for my studio many months before but had not found a project to be used on. When the producer, Tom Malloy, approached me about scoring the film my one comment to him was “as long as I get to use this synthesizer” (which I believe I sent a few examples of the sound to him). That was the only thing I started with before the picture showed up. then came the development of a few musical ideas mostly for the piano heard in the score. There is one main set of “ introspective” chords that shift from minor to major depending on the scene. There is a secondary “ optimistic set of chords” and a synth “motive” that returns often. The use of cello in the opening title was more of an after thought and in fact I had two other ideas, one with erhu however in the end the cello version was selected by the producers as the best choice. For much of the score, there is a lot of layering of synths — pulsing, bubbling and churning through as drama unfolds and the story intensifies. One of the stand out cues, Target Practice, incorporated the well known musical phenomenon called a “shepard tone” which has this constant rising tension that never feels like it resolves. By the end of the score a more orchestral thriller sound takes over with these plucked strings played into a “WW II Bunker” (thanks to Bunker Samples) for a unique ambience also merging with the synths. Many of these synth textures were created using software and some were created using hardware like the Korg Minilogue also the Moog Minotaur (the squishy bass lines). If you hear something a little out of tune or a little less consistent flow that is usually the hardware synths which for anyone who has been around these instruments knows they change every day with their knob turns and organic way of tuning. I decided that I liked inconsistencies with the hardware synths because it resembled more of a performance like a ensemble of musicians— never really playing the same way twice so if you hear a synth sweep that doesn’t sound the same each time— it’s not, because it is me twisting the filter sweep knob by hand not automated or perfected by a computer. I embrace these unique instruments in the score to TRAUMA THERAPY.

Fox Music/Hollywood Records: "JOJO RABBIT" Score and Soundtrack

Fox Music/Hollywood Records releases the digital original motion picture soundtrack to Jojo Rabbit, which was directed, written, produced by and stars Taika Waititi.  Michael Giacchino composed, produced and conducted the music for Jojo Rabbit, which was recorded in London.  The soundtrack includes three score cues alongside classic tracks performed in German from The Beatles, Roy Orbison and David Bowie, as well as songs from Ella Fitzgerald, Tom Waits, Love and more.  The Jojo Rabbit soundtrack and score album are available today at streaming and download services, as the film opens in U.S. theatres.

Waititi (Thor: Ragnarock, Hunt for the Wilderpeople), brings his signature style of humor and pathos to his latest film, Jojo Rabbit, a World War II satire that follows a lonely German boy (Roman Griffin Davis as JoJo) whose world view is turned upside down when he discovers his single mother (Scarlett Johansson) is hiding a young Jewish girl (Thomasin McKenzie) in their attic. Aided only by his idiotic imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler (Waititi), Jojo must confront his blind nationalism.

Jojo Rabbit is based upon the book Caging Skies by Christine Leunens.  Michael Giacchino’s score provides a beautiful accompaniment to the film which stars Roman Griffin Davis, Thomasin McKenzie, Waititi, Rebel Wilson, Stephen Merchant, Alfie Allen, with Sam Rockwell and Scarlett Johansson.  The producers are Carthew Neal, Waititi and Chelsea Winstanley.  Jojo Rabbit was recently awarded the top People’s Choice honor at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it premiered.

“Working with Michael Giacchino on Jojo Rabbit was a very collaborative and instinctive process,” said Waititi. “His music elevated the film to a new level, hitting those emotional, key points throughout. We were thrilled to have him on board and are excited for audiences to experience and enjoy the score as much as we do.”

Giacchino’s foundation for the score lay in classical influences from 1939 Germany including Chopin, Liszt and Satie.  The composer said, “But most of all what inspired me is constantly thinking, ‘what is the film asking for?’  You just have to try to take on those really hard emotions and feel them in your gut.  That’s the challenge of a film like this.”

Those emotions led to the choice of a pared-down ensemble:  a 22-piece orchestra with a string quartet at its center, as well as piano, a couple of guitars, some brass and percussion. “For me, it’s a really nice change to work with a small, intimate group like that,” Giacchino says.  “I’m used to working with a 100-piece orchestra, but I personally feel the smaller the orchestra, the more emotional the sound.”

Composer Michael Giacchino has credits that feature some of the most popular and acclaimed film projects in recent history, including The Incredibles, War for the Planet of the Apes, Ratatouille, Star Trek, Jurassic World, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Coco. Giacchino’s 2009 score for the Disney and Pixar hit Up earned him an Oscar®, a Golden Globe®, the BAFTA, the Broadcast Film Critics' Choice Award and two GRAMMY® Awards.

Walt Disney Records: "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil" music by Geoff Zanelli

Walt Disney Records releases Maleficent: Mistress of Evil digital soundtrack featuring score by Emmy® Award-winning composer  Geoff Zanelli. The soundtrack also features the end-credit song, “You Can’t Stop the Girl,” performed by Warner Records recording artist Bebe Rexha.   The soundtrack is available today from Walt Disney Records as the film opens in U.S. theaters nationwide.

Composer Geoff Zanelli is a standout in the film and television scoring industry, garnering accolades and recognition for his diverse musical voice.  Zanelli frequently collaborates with Disney, his films with them include “The Odd Life of Timothy Green,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” and “Christopher Robin.”  Some of his other most notable titles include Steven Spielberg’s “Into the West,” for which he won an Emmy Award, DreamWorks and Paramount Pictures’ “Disturbia,” Lionsgate’s “Mortdecai,” HBO’s “The Pacific” and Screen Gem’s “The Intruder.”

Director Joachim Rønning brought Geoff Zanelli on board to write the music. The composer sees his music score as the element in a film that bridges the space between the screen and the audience. “That is true in any movie, really, but especially with fantasy movies where the film relies on the audience being able to suspend their disbelief,” Zanelli says.

Having previously worked together on “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,” Zanelli knew what Rønning was looking for and since this was a sequel, he also knew the score needed to take the reins from where the first story left off and expand on that. “In this movie the score is there to really push the boundaries out further, to tell a more epic story set in the world everyone loved from the first film,” he says.

In Disney’s “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil,” a sequel to the 2014 global box office hit, Maleficent and her goddaughter Aurora begin to question the complex family ties that bind them as they are pulled in different directions by impending nuptials, unexpected allies and dark new forces at play. The years have been kind to Maleficent and Aurora. Their relationship, born of heartbreak, revenge and ultimately love, has flourished. Yet the hatred between man and the fairies still exists. Aurora’s impending marriage to Prince Philip is cause for celebration in the kingdom of Ulstead and the neighboring Moors, as the wedding serves to unite the two worlds. When an unexpected encounter introduces a powerful new alliance, Maleficent and Aurora are pulled apart to opposing sides in a Great War, testing their loyalties and causing them to question whether they can truly be family.

“Maleficent: Mistress of Evil” stars Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sam Riley, Harris Dickinson, Ed Skrein, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, Lesley Manville and Michelle Pfeiffer. The film is directed by Joachim Rønning from a story by Linda Woolverton, written by Linda Woolverton and Noah Harpster & Micah Fitzerman-Blue and produced by Joe Roth, Angelina Jolie and Duncan Henderson. Jeff Kirschenbaum, Matt Smith, Michael Vieira and Linda Woolverton are executive producers.

Intrada: "CRAWL" music by Max Aruj and Steffen Thum

http://store.intrada.com/core/media/media.nl/id.29896/c.ACCT67745/.f?h=c6a4433e9904b9d13adf

Intrada announces the CD release of the soundtrack to Paramount Pictures' 2019 thriller Crawl. The score by Max Aruj and Steffen Thum is low and rarely drifts from the low range of its composition, capturing the dreaded feeling of being trapped in the low space beneath a house, with a storm raging outside and the water level rising. It also captures a sense of the large, menacing creatures that occupy that crawlspace, similar to the low strings in Jaws. In fact, jabbing cellos are prominent in the score, with cello solos by Peter Gregson. It's a contemporary horror score, featuring a mix of synth and acoustics, relying more on an atmospheric soundscape than melody in one of the top thrillers of 2019.

In the beginning of the film, a massive hurricane descends upon a Florida town. Competitive swimmer Haley (Kaya Scodelario) circumvents road blocks enforcing an evacuation order to find her missing father (Barry Pepper). She finds him trapped in his home's crawlspace, held captive by a pack of gigantic alligators – a realization that comes too late as Hayley herself becomes trapped. The pair must fight not only the alligators but also the rising water as the crawlspace slowly fills up. It's human against nature against beast, in what is the perfect storm.

Cleopatra Entertainment: "Nekromantix" 30th Anniversary Concert Deluxe [Blu-ray/DVD/CD]

A brand new 4K concert film for Danish-American Psychobilly band NEKROMANTIX that will be released on October 29th in honor of the band's 30th Anniversary. Filmed in 2019 at the Observatory Theater in Santa Ana, CA and directed by Vicente Cordero (3TEETH, ROOM 37: The Mysterious Death Of Johnny Thunders), the live concert film features band founder/bassist/vocalist Kim Nekroman, guitarist/backing vocalist Francisco Mesa and recently-crowned drummer/backing vocalist Rene D La Muerte ripping thru the band's glorious nine-album catalog, much to the delight of their adoring fans at this sold-out Anniversary show.

Entitled NEKROMANTIX 3 Decades of Darkle, this limited-edition 30th anniversary release will include exclusive interviews with the band and rare photos that will be packaged in a gorgeous eight-panel Digipak with a standard definition DVD and Audio CD companion as an added bonus. A downloadable version will also be available on global digital platforms, coinciding with release of the Home Entertainment version.

NEKROMANTIX were formed in 1989 in Copenhagen by Kim Nekroman after he left the Danish Navy, in which he had been a submarine radio operator for eight years. Deciding to launch a new career in music, he initially played drums in a rockabilly band prior to the foundation of NEKROMANTIX. Learning to play the double bass and to sing, Nekroman set about forming a horror-themed psychobilly band with himself as the frontman. Three decades, multiple line-up changes and 9 studio albums later, Kim continues to carry the NEKROMANTIX flag which still embodies his original vision of monster and horror themes - as well as his signature "Coffinbass" - a self-built double bass with a body in the shape of a coffin and a headstock the shape of a cross.

Says Nekroman: "It took us 30 years to finally make an official full on live video and audio recording...can't think of a more thrilling way to celebrate this 3 decade anniversary, than an immortalized show consisting of songs from our very first album, in 1989, up until today. What an awesome and horrifying joyride. Now you can watch or re-live the show over and over again from the convenience of your couch."

Milan Records: "THE LIGHTHOUSE" music by Mark Korven

From Robert Eggers, the visionary filmmaker behind modern horror masterpiece The Witch, comes The Lighthouse, a hypnotic and hallucinatory tale of two lighthouse keepers on a remote and mysterious New England island in the 1890s.

Milan Records, an imprint of Sony Music Masterworks, announces THE LIGHTHOUSE (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) with music by Gemini and Genie-Award winning composer MARK KORVEN (Cube, The Witch, Into the Tall Grass). Available Friday, October 18, the soundtrack features music from the Robert Eggers-directed horror film and is composer Mark Korven’s second collaboration with the director following his score for Eggers’ directorial debut The Witch. Starring Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson, A24’s The Lighthouse made its world premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and premieres in theaters Friday, October 18 (NY/LA) with expansion to follow.

Sacred Bones Records will be releasing the vinyl edition of The Lighthouse soundtrack. All color vinyl versions of the record will come housed in a deluxe die-cut sleeve, with the light of the lighthouse cut out so the listener can shine a beam through. The inner sleeve comes in two randomly distributed variants: one with a die-cut of Willem Dafoe's character, and one with a die-cut of Robert Pattinson's character. It's available to preorder here.

Of the soundtrack, composer MARK KORVEN says, "Robert [Eggers] and I were rather like the two wickies that went insane in The Lighthouse, musically speaking. We travelled to some very dark harmonic and textural places. We both enjoy not just breaking the rules, but blowing them to smithereens. The spirit of experimentation was always present."

Mark Korven is a Toronto based composer for film and television. He is best known for his work on the 2016 period Horror film The Witch, which won the best director award at the 2015 Sundance festival for director Robert Eggers. Mark also scored Egger’s follow up The Lighthousestarring Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson. It won the Critics Prize at the Cannes Film Festival 2019. His scores have been nominated 14 times for Canadian film and Television awards, winning several. His client list includes AMC, CBS, CTV, CBC, E1, PBS, and BBC. In 1998, director Hideo Nakata (Dark Water) unleashed a chilling tale of technological terror on unsuspecting audiences, which redefined the horror genre, launched the J-horror boom in the West and introduced a generation of moviegoers to a creepy, dark-haired girl called Sadako. The film's success spawned a slew of remakes, reimaginations and imitators, but none could quite boast the power of Nakata's original masterpiece, which melded traditional Japanese folklore with contemporary anxieties about the spread of technology. A group of teenage friends are found dead, their bodies grotesquely contorted, their faces twisted in terror. Reiko (Nanako Matsushima, When Marnie Was There), a journalist and the aunt of one of the victims, sets out to investigate the shocking phenomenon, and in the process uncovers a creepy urban legend about a supposedly cursed videotape, the contents of which causes anyone who views it to die within a week - unless they can persuade someone else to watch it, and, in so doing, pass on the curse... Arrow Video is proud to present Ringu, the film that started it all, restored from the original negative in glorious high definition and supplemented by a wealth of archival and newly created bonus materials.

MVD Entertainment Group: "KILLER NUN" [BlU-RAY]

FROM THE SECRET FILES OF THE VATICAN! Aging blonde-bombshell Anita Ekberg (La Dolce Vita, Pick-up Alley) gives a full-bodied performance as a sex-crazed sister with some seriously bad habits in the lurid cult classic Killer Nun. One of the most notorious 'nunsploitation' films, Killer Nun tells the sordid story of Sister Gertrude, a disturbed woman of the cloth who degenerates into a perverse mire of drug taking, sexual perversion, sadistic torture and murder. Joe Dallesandro (The Climber, Flesh for Frankenstein), Alida Valli (The Possessed, Suspiria) and the ample Paola Morra (Behind Convent Walls) offer spirited performances and able support to Ekberg, in this shocking tale based on real events. Boasting an incongruously classy score by legendary composer Alessandro Alessandroni (Women's Camp 119) and stylishly rendered scenes of sex and murder, Killer Nun takes the viewer on hair-raising journey from the heights of religious ecstasy to the depths of devilish degeneracy. Now Giulio Berruti's sleazy classic is presented in a stunning new 2K restoration, with a liturgy of new extras, ready to be preyed upon.

One screen legend pays homage to another in Man of a Thousand Faces, an enthralling biopic which sees Oscar-winning tough guy James Cagney give a multifaceted portrayal of silent cinema legend Lon Chaney. Yet, despite his talent and success, Chaney led a life plagued by hardship and heartache. What follows is a very long and horrifying aftermath that sends the man down a dark and despicable path. A disquieting tale reminiscent of the works of Lars von Trier and Michael Haneke.

I really only watched this cause I love "Amanda Plummer" came in happy, innocent and left disturbed...

Intrada: "THE AMAZING MR. BLUNDEN" Music Composed and Conducted by ELMER BERNSTEIN

http://store.intrada.com/core/media/media.nl?id=29856&c=ACCT67745&h=61d7619440b54c562e58

Intrada's latest release is the much sought-after Elmer Bernstein score to the 1972 ghost story, The Amazing Mr. Blunden.  Bernstein composed some 40 minutes of score for the film, focusing on the more intimate and sometimes regal aspects of the film's emphasis on the children from different eras and the British setting. The score is a kind of kindred spirit to his score to To Kill A Mockingbird some 10 years earlier. Bernstein wrote a score that supports the story at every turn, contrasting isolated full orchestra moments with passages of almost chamber-music intimacy for scenes involving the children and Mr. Blunden. The lovely melodies he created and the harmonies he used to support them achieve maximum affect—often with a minimum of resources.

The master elements used for this premiere soundtrack release, long considered an elusive treasure waiting for discovery, were finally located and fortunately had been preserved in beautiful condition. The original score itself is complete and was vaulted on two first-generation rolls of ¼″ tape, mixed down by scoring engineer Richard Lewzey at London’s Cine-Tele Sound Studios (CTS) in October 1972.

The film is based on The Ghosts by distinguished British author Antonia Barber. The story of The Amazing Mr. Blunden centers on two pairs of children from different eras brought together by aging solicitor Frederick Percival Blunden. As the film opens, Lucy and Jamie Allen are living with their recently widowed mother. Mr. Blunden asks them to be caretakers of an unoccupied country estate while his firm tracks down the rightful owners. Mysteriously, he asks the children if they would be afraid if they saw ghosts, and they assure him they would not. The reason for his question becomes apparent enough when the Allens arrive at the derelict house and discover that it is haunted by the ghosts of two children, a boy and a girl much like themselves, who had lived there 100 years ago: Sara and Georgie Latimer. Sara and her brother plead with the Allen children to drink a magic potion and come with them back in time to help them escape a terrible fire that will otherwise kill them—a fact Lucy and Jamie confirm by finding their tombstones in a present-day church graveyard. WaterTower Music: "JOKER" music by Hildur Guðnadóttir

WaterTower Music has announced the digital release of the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to Oscar-nominated filmmaker Todd Phillips’ film Joker, which centers around the director/co-writer/producer’s original vision of the infamous villain, indelibly portrayed by three-time Oscar nominee Joaquin Phoenix. The film, which had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival and won the Golden Lion (Best Film) Award, is now playing in theaters.

The Joker soundtrack album features an original score by Emmy Award-winning composer Hildur Guðnadóttir (Chernobyl, Sicario: Day of the Soldado), whose composition features the cello as the centerpiece of the score, leading string-based melodies played by a symphony orchestra of 90 musicians. WaterTower Music will release the picture disc and colored vinyl editions of the soundtrack on December 13th.

To interpret the many themes explored throughout the film, director Todd Phillips very early on turned to the composer. “Hildur was writing music as far back as pre-production. I was sending her script pages and she was writing music before we even shot, and what she did for the film is so unique,” says Phillips.

Guðnadóttir remarks, “Todd asked me to write some music based on my feelings from reading the script, which I was inspired to do because it truly resonated with me.” She sent him a sample and recalls, “The film is a gritty character study, which to me translated to melodies that are very simple and monotonic, because that’s kind of the way Joaquin’s character Arthur is seeing things.  Then I tried to expand within that simplicity the orchestration around Joker’s evolution not with chords or any complicated music, but with texture that I felt resonated with the melancholia of this character.”

The Joker soundtrack is now available digitally. Vinyl configurations include purple vinyl, multicolored splatter vinyl and a picture disc. These versions will be available December 13 and are now available for pre-order.

Let's just say, there is a lot of buzz and eyes on this film.

Varese SarabandeL "BLADE" (VINYL) music by Mark Isham

The Original Motion Picture Score for Blade by award winning composer Mark Isham has been released for the first time on vinyl today and is available on VareseSarabande.com and other retailers. The LP’s jacket, inner sleeve and labels thematically reference the infamous warehouse rave scene of the vampire thriller from 1998.

“The score needed to have an epic super-hero quality but with a very dark side, and it needed to be able to live next to the world of 1990’s electronica - The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Aphex Twin etc. We used a large symphony orchestra supplemented with electronic synthesizers and samplers for a unique musical vocabulary. I did a lot of sampling of weird and strange sounds as well as programming my synth collection. We recorded at the Fox stage which is a wonderful room. The process went smoothly as I had worked tirelessly with Steve Norrington, the director, during the demo process to get what we both wanted. We recorded some sections of the score in smaller segments - to be edited together later - as a lot of the visual effects hadn’t been completed yet. I think my two favorite musical moments are The Death Of Whistler - which is very emotional scene, a bit unexpected in a film of this genre - and the culmination of the Ritual For Summoning La Magra. This is big and bombastic and just plain FUN!” –  Mark Isham, composer.

The movie starring Wesley Snipes in one of his signature roles was a commercial success that spawned two sequels, and the films have enjoyed cult status for many years. At this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego, Marvel Studios got movie-goers amped by announcing a Blade reboot in 2020, with none other than accomplished actor Mahershala Ali to star, who took home Oscars for both Moonlight and Greenbook.

ABOUT MARK ISHAM: He is an electronic music innovator, jazz artist and prolific film composer. Mark Isham’s ability to create unforgettable melodies combined with his willingness to experiment with innovative musical palettes have earned him accolades including: Grammy and Emmy awards, and Oscar and Golden Globe nominations.

Isham’s inimitable musical voice is evident in his memorable scores for award-winning features including the Oscar-winning Crash and A River Runs Through It (Oscar nomination), along with Golden Globe winning Bobby, and The Black Dahlia. For The Black Dahlia, Isham was awarded “Best Score” by the International Film Music Critics Association. Other credits include Men of Honor (Grammy nomination), Eight Below, The Cooler, cult-classic Blade, Nell, The Accountant, ABC’s hit series Once Upon a Time (Emmy nomination), and Oscar-winner John Ridley’s ABC drama American Crime. Recent projects include A Dog's Journey, whilst upcoming for Isham includes Disney’s Togo, and Bill & Ted Face the Music.

Mark Isham’s collective contributions to the film music community was recognized by his peers when he was awarded the highest honor for a composer by The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), the prestigious Henry Mancini Career Achievement Award for musical excellence.

See the DreamWorks Animation film that press are calling "not only visually stunning, but emotionally compelling because it combines the power of story, music, and visuals."
