MVD Entertainment Group: The Suspicious Death Of A Minor [Dual Format] (9/26)

In the wake of the success of Dario Argento's ground-breaking giallo The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, numerous other directors stepped forward to try their hand at these lurid murder-mysteries. At the forefront was Sergio Martino (The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh, Torso), whose sensual 70s thrillers starring Edwige Fenech and George Hilton are widely celebrated as some of the best the genre has to offer.

The final of Martino's six gialli, The Suspicious Death of a Minor combines conventional giallo trappings with elements of the then flourishing 'poliziotteschi' crime thrillers. Claudio Cassinelli (What Have They Done to Your Daughters?) stars as undercover cop Paolo Germi, on the trail of a Milanese criminal outfit following the brutal murder of an underage prostitute. But a killer-for-hire is also on the prowl, bumping off witnesses before they have a chance to talk...

Also starring Mel Ferrer (Nightmare City), Barbara Magnolfi (Suspiria) and Jenny Tamburi (The Psychic), and featuring a script by veteran giallo writer Ernesto Gastaldi (All the Colors of the Dark, Death Walks at Midnight), this unique and lesser-known entry in Martino's filmography serves as an essential link between two different movements in Italian popular cinema.

Features:
- Brand new 2K restoration of the film from the original camera negative produced by Arrow Video exclusively for this release
- High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) and Standard Definition DVD presentations
- Original mono Italian and English soundtracks (lossless on the Blu-ray Disc)

- Optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing for the English soundtrack
- New audio commentary by Troy Howarth, author of So Deadly, So Perverse: 50 Years of Italian Giallo Films
- New interviews with director Sergio Martino and cinematographer Giancarlo Ferrando

Lent 200 francs by an anonymous stranger, he is determined to pay back his debt but circumstances - and his alcoholism - forever intervene. Working with professional actors for the first time in more than 20 years, Olmi cast Ruger Hauer as Andreas and was rewarded with an astonishing performance of subtlety and depth. Hauer is joined by a superb supporting cast, including Anthony Quayle (Lawrence of Arabia), Sandrine Dumas (The Double Life of Veronique) and Dominique Pinon (Delicatessen).

MVD Entertainment Group: "Don't Torture A Duckling"

From Lucio Fulci, the godfather of gore (The Psychic, The Beyond), comes one of the most powerful and unsettling giallo thrillers ever produced: his 1972 masterpiece Don't Torture a Duckling.

When the sleepy rural village of Accendura is rocked by a series of murders of young boys, the superstitious locals are quick to apportion blame, with the suspects including the local "witch", Maciara (Florinda Bolkan, A Lizard in a Woman's Skin). With the bodies piling up and the community gripped by panic and a thirst for bloody vengeance, two outsiders - city journalist Andrea (Tomas Milian, The Four of the Apocalypse) and spoilt rich girl Patrizia (Barbara Bouchet, The Red Queen Kills Seven Times) - team up to crack the case. But before the mystery is solved, more blood will have been spilled, and not all of it belonging to innocents...

Deemed shocking at the time for its brutal violence, depiction of the Catholic Church and themes of child murder and paedophilia, Don't Torture a Duckling is widely regarded today as Fulci's greatest film, rivaling the best of his close rival Dario Argento. Arrow Video is proud to present this uniquely chilling film in its North American high definition debut.

Features:
- High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) and Standard Definition DVD presentations
- Original mono Italian and English soundtracks (lossless on the Blu-ray Disc)

INTRADA: Frederic Talgorn's "ROBOT JOX" [1989]

Intrada presents an expanded reissue of Frederic Talgorn's soaring orchestral score to the 1990 sci-fi film Robot Jox. One of the most ambitions projects produced by Charles Band, it featured a large orchestral score by a composer new to the Empire scene.  But he gave the film an epic sheen making the action on screen perhaps more grandiose than the budget would really allow, making it a very prominent and artistic element of the film.  Worth noting is Talgorn's unique orchestra mix.  While the traditional orchestral layout prevails—violins on the left, violas largely centered, cellos and basses to the right with woodwinds and percussion spread throughout— the brass are unusually placed: trumpets and trombones play behind the high strings; French horns are prominent with the low strings. Much of Talgorn’s writing is in higher registers and this unusual mixing allows brass sonorities to meld with the high strings and horns to counter the low strings. The final mix is vivid and punchy throughout and shines on this new restoration of the score.

The film draws inspiration from Homer’s The Iliad, re-imagining the Greek epic as a Cold War allegory, set in a post-apocalyptic world where war has been outlawed. The battle for territory between the free Market and totalitarian Confederation is reserved for humans piloting towering machines. Market champion Achilles withdraws from competition after a spectator-crushing accident, but when the genetically engineered Athena commandeers his “bot” to take on the Confederation’s crazed Alexander for resource-rich Alaska, he returns to the fray to save his comrade in arms.

Milan Records: "LOVING VINCENT" Music by: Clint Mansell

Loving Vincent is the upcoming biographical animated film from newcomer directors Dorota Kobiela and Hugh Welchman about Vincent van Gogh's final days and the attempt by an acquaintance of his son (played by Douglas Booth) to unravel the mysterious circumstances surrounding his death. A film unlike any other, it is entirely hand painted – each of the movie’s 65,000 frames is an oil painting on a canvas created using the same techniques as Vincent van Gogh. Good Deed Entertainment is releasing the film on September 22nd in New York before expanding to Los Angeles on September 29th and nationally on October 6th.

In addition to being a wonder for the eyes, Loving Vincent is a treat for the ears. The score is composed by acclaimed composer Clint Mansell (Pi, Requiem For A Dream, Black Swan, Moon, High Rise). Somber yet driven, Mansell’s compositions are filled with the swell of mournful strings pocked with delicate, deliberate notes in countermelodies. A perfect companion to the story of dreadful loss and resigned understanding, Mansell captures a thematic match with music that both enriches the viewing experience yet stands on its own as well. Milan Records will be releasing the soundtrack digitally on September 22nd and on CD September 29th. The soundtrack will also include the track "Starry Starry Night" featured in the end credits, produced by Mansell and performed by Lianne La Havas (Warner Bros).

In addition to CD and digital releases, Loving Vincent will also be made available on vinyl with packaging designed by director Dorota Kobiela. The LP is pressed on a single 180g color vinyl featuring the entirety of Clint Mansell’s score housed in a striking dress jacket with interior sleeve featuring liner notes from Clint. With audio mastered specifically for the vinyl format and a presentation that is unparalleled, “Loving Vincent” will be a must-own for music aficionados. The vinyl release date is October 13th, 2017.

VARÈSE SARABANDE RECORDS TO RELEASE THE ULTIMATE POPEYE - "Deluxe Edition" SOUNDTRACK 2Cd

Well blow me down!  Varèse Sarabande will release the most comprehensive version of the Popeye soundtrack ever assembled, featuring the film’s beloved songs by Harry Nilsson, performed by the cast (including Robin Williams, Shelly Duvall, and Ray Walston), never-before released original score composed by Thomas Pierson, and an entire disc of demos performed by Harry Nilsson. The POPEYE – Deluxe Edition Music From the Motion Picture, which also includes newly-discovered images and extensive liner notes, will be released digitally and on CD on September 29, 2017.

Looking for the father (Ray Walston) who deserted him as a baby, a sailor named Popeye (Robin Williams) journeys to the port town of Sweethaven. Popeye befriends an assortment of eccentrics and falls in love with Olive Oyl (Shelley Duvall), who already has a suitor, the bully Bluto (Paul L. Smith). Popeye also discovers an abandoned baby, Swee'Pea, whom he raises as his own. But when the spurned Bluto kidnaps Olive and the child, Popeye takes action, with the help of his magic spinach….

A rare co-production between Paramount Pictures and Walt Disney Productions – the 1980 film POPEYE was a live-action musical version of E.C. Segar’s classic comic strip, directed by Robert Altman and produced by Robert Evans.  The idea was first presented to him by Evans during a party at the producer’s home in mid-1977.  Nilsson’s initial response, “We shared two or three vodkas, and then I told him I didn’t think it was such a good idea to do POPEYE.”

Eventually though he came on board – though the team at Paramount still needed convincing.  In May 1979 Nilsson was given three weeks to write three songs for the film.  He would present home demos for the tracks “He Needs Me,” “I’m Mean,” “Swee’Pea’s Lullaby,” amongst other.

Lakeshore Records: "STRONGER" by Michael Brook

Lakeshore Records will release the STRONGER - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on September 22, 2017. The album features original music by Michael Brook (BROOKLYN, UNDEFEATED).

In STRONGER, inspired by a true story and based on the New York Times bestseller, Jake Gyllenhaal stars as the working-class Boston man [Jeff Bauman] whose iconic photo from the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing captured the hearts of the world. Stronger is the deeply personal account of the heroic journey that came after that photo – defining a man’s inner courage, a community’s pride, a family’s bond and an unexpectedly tenacious love to overcome devastating adversity.

“The film covers a sort of everyman, Jeff Bauman, who goes through this terrible tragedy experiencing anguish, loss and despair, but ultimately discovers his inner strength on the road to recovery,” Brook described.  It became a bit more important than usual for the opening cue to introduce them to Jeff.  “David Gordon Green [director] and Jake Gyllenhaal, [actor/producer] wanted the opening cue to strongly and instantly establish the emotional perspective that Jeff was a sweet, thoughtful kind of guy who has a fantastic sense of humor.  They felt, and I agreed, that a sweet, almost playful cue could initiate a sort of emotional resonance that would bring a kind of balance to the rest of the film.”

SONY CLASSICAL RELEASES TWO SOUNDTRACKS "THE MTV SERIES TEEN WOLF"

Sony Classical proudly announces the release of two albums celebrating the MTV original series Teen Wolf.  The Teen Wolf – Original Television Soundtrack features beloved indie rock and electronica songs used throughout the series from artists including Young the Giant, Mikky Ekko, Fink, and the haunting cover of “Bad Moon Rising” performed by Mourning Ritual feat. Peter Dreimanis. The Teen Wolf – Original Television Score features original music written by composer Dino Meneghin (Taking the Stage, Eye Candy) including “Teen Wolf Main Title.”

Loosely based on the 1985 film of the same name, MTV's Teen Wolf and stars Tyler Posey as a teenager named Scott McCall, who is bitten by a werewolf and must cope with how it affects his life and the lives of those closest to him, and Dylan O'Brien as "Stiles" Stilinski, Scott's best friend. Teen Wolf first premiered in 2011, and is currently airing its sixth and final season Sundays on MTV in the US and on various channels internationally.

“You can hear over time how the show really developed a sound of its own,” said composer Dino Meneghin.

The show became quickly became a fan favorite of the network, and became known for its song choices as well as its original score.  “I always love to share new bands with viewers, especially with the ones that I am a fan of personally,” said series music supervisor Laura Webb in an interview on MTV.com. She pointed out the song, “Who Are You, Really?” describing: ”I was really excited about using Mikky Ekko in episode 10. His music was sent to me by someone that works on his team, and it always stuck with me. The song that we are using worked so unbelievably well that it still gives me goosebumps.”

Working on all six years of the series allowed Meneghin the opportunity to develop his themes. “Some of them became much broader in scope and importance than they were originally intended to be,” he described. “Scott and Allison's love theme is a good example; it started as a love theme for two characters, but we still used it even after Allison's death to call back to something fundamental about the show. It really came to represent some of the heart of the show, and whenever we'd bring it in, it was very powerful.”

The Teen Wolf – Original Television Soundtrack will be available digitally and on CD September 15, 2017. The Teen Wolf – Original Television Score will be available digitally the same day.

MovieScore Media: "MY NAME IS LENNY" Music by: Ian Arber

MovieScore Media is no stranger to movies about famous sportsmen and its latest release  falls in line with this trend. Directed by Ron Scalpello, My Name is Lenny presents an account on the life of Britain's most notorious bare-knuckle fighter Lenny McLean, also known as "The Guv'nor." Played by Josh Helman (Commander Stryker from the new generation of X-Men films, Mad Max: Fury Road) McLean was an institution of the British fighting scene with a self-proclaimed number of 4000 fights - he also had strong ties to the London underworld, a fact he relished when playing the role of 'Barry The Baptist' in Guy Ritchie's gangster comedy Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. My Name is Lenny tells the extraordinary tale behind the man, the myth, the legend.

Ian Arber is an emerging talent in the film music world. With a growing portfolio of work across a variety of genres, In 2016, he scored two feature documentaries about Olympic legends Usain Bolt (I Am Bolt), and Sir Mo Farah (Mo Farah: No Easy Mile). His documentary scores are characterized by strong musical contributions from musicians, such as hip-hop legend Nas appearing in the opening titles to I Am Bolt and the involvement of co-composer Blur drummer Dave Rowntree on Mo Farah: No Easy Mile.  Other recent works in Arber's filmography include assisting Joe Kraemer on the blockbuster Mission: Impossible: Rogue Nation as well providing music for the BBC2 period comedy Quacks.

While making himself well-known through his involvement in sports documentaries, Ian Arber tackles a fictionalized account of a fighter through the same keen insight for human drama. As he explains: “The My Name is Lenny score is a dark, psychological, brutal and epic  journey. The score is made up of distorted tones, experimental percussion and delicate atmospheric guitars and piano. Boxing glove punches were recorded as a percussive element throughout fight scenes. A heavily distorted cello represents Lenny’s abusive stepfather, and Lenny’s girlfriend Val’s influence is accented with a gentle melodic guitar motif in the score’s most delicate moments.”

Ancient Ocean's release: "TITAN'S ISLAND"...

Ambitious, grand and by any measure, beautiful; it’s tempting to simply and sincerely soak in the atmosphere of “Titan’s Island,” the second full-length album from Ancient Ocean, the long running ambient project of NYC-via-Kentucky resident J.R. Bohannon. The album unearths the intense process mending the worlds of modern classical, expansive sound art, minimalism, and the usual micro-guitar and synth exploration we’ve come to expect from Bohannon.

At the very heart of “Titan’s Island” is the album’s concept. Saturn’s moon of Titan has long been considered to be our solar system’s only habitable planet aside from the earth – largely because of its surface lakes and seas, as revealed by the exploratory spacecraft Cassini, as a part of perhaps the most ambitious planetary space exploration in human history. These notions of discovery and exploration immediately find life of their own under Bohannon’s direction, who notes that part of the album was directly influenced by his thinking about how sounds may take shape in space. Space, you’ll recall, is a vacuum. Given such, are the sounds – the literal wavelengths and electromagnetic waves – actually there. And if so, what do they sound like? Such is the depth of exploration engineered by Bohannon on “Titan’s Island.”

BREAKING GLASS PICTURES: "THE BASEMENT" on DVD!

Breaking Glass Pictures has acquired North American rights to the Hungarian occultist horror feature THE BASEMENT. Breaking Glass acquired North American rights to the film in June in a deal negotiated between Breaking Glass CEO Rich Wolff and Galen Christy of High Octane Pictures. The film will be released on DVD/VOD on September 5, 2017.

Chosen as one of the “21 Horror Movies That Will Make You Scream in 2017” (Boom Howdy), THE BASEMENT stars Caroline Boulton (Hercules, ‘Dr. Who’), Richard Rifkin (The Martian, Eragon), and Zalan Takacs (Spy, The Martian).

After a huge house party, a group of international students looking for a thrill decide to investigate an abandoned basement. Officially, the basement has been abandoned for decades. However, they soon discover that it is anything but empty. What starts off as an exploratory séance ends in bloody mayhem when a malicious entity is summoned. Supernatural freaks, mystery, blood, and death lurk around every turn. As the survivors try to escape at all costs, their situation becomes more and more dire.

“Indie horror has always been a staple at Breaking Glass, and we pride ourselves on finding new and exciting titles from promising filmmakers”, said Rich Wolff, CEO of Breaking Glass Pictures. “We are proud to add László Illés’s The Basement to our extensive library of genre films.”

THE BASEMENT will be available to buy/rent on the following platforms: iTunes, Amazon Instant, Google Play, PlayStation, Xbox, Vudu, and On Demand through your local cable/satellite provider.

She was born in Detroit on an automobile assembly line.  But she is no ordinary automobile.  Deep within her chassis lives an unholy presence.  She is Christine, a red and white 1958 Plymouth Fury whose unique standard equipment includes an evil, indestructible vengeance that will destroy anyone in her way.  She seduces 17-year old Arnie Cunningham (Keith Gordon) who becomes consumed with passion for her sleek rounded chrome-laden body.  She demands his complete and unquestioned devotion and when outsiders seek to interfere, they become the victims of Christine’s horrifying wrath.  John Carpenter brings Stephen King’s best-selling novel to life in this chilling thriller.

To complement the remastered audio, Award-winning artist and leading designer in the world of alternative movie posters, Gary Pullin was commissioned to create original artwork for the packaging. "I’ve always loved Stephen King's novel and the cover is a stunner - a stylized hood ornament with a screaming skull, Christine in chrome as it blazes across the hard cover,” he explained. “For the films’ score, I wanted to feature the Plymouth Fury logo front and centre, in a simplistic and new way. The shape of the V reminded me of devil horns - she's the car from hell! The blue glow represents the supernatural force living under the hood and inside her evil grinning grill. I often go for atmospheric designs when creating artwork for movie soundtracks and the art seemed like a perfect fit for the electronic score that Carpenter and Howarth created to drive the film’s suspense and bring the fury of Christine to life.”

Jesper Kyd is renowned for composing the iconic scores for the first four Assassin's Creed games, Borderlands series, Hitman series, State of Decay Series, Darksiders 2, Freedom Fighters and many more. When asked about the making of the soundtrack, Kyd said: "We worked on making the jungle come alive using analog and acoustic instruments as elements of the forest and creatures inhabiting the world of Robinson. The score is more minimal than I am used to writing and it's a music style that lends itself really well to the VR experience in Robinson."

Robinson: The Journey tells the story of a boy named Robin who is left stranded when the Esmeralda crash-lands on Tyson III. He must rely on his wits - and HIGS, one of the ship's AI units - to survive. As he searches for the lost crew and comes face-to-face with dinosaurs, Robin discovers that Tyson III is not the paradise once promised ... it's an alien planet full of pre-historic life and resembles life on earth during the Jurassic period. Robinson: The Journey is out now on Playstation VR and Oculus VR. Find out more about the game here: www.robinsonthegame.com

SUMTHING ELSE MUSIC WORKS: "WARHAMMER : THE END TIMES" - VERMINTIDE OFFICIAL SOUNDTRACK

Today, Sumthing Else Music Works announced that BAFTA award-winning Danish composer Jesper Kyd's dark and twisted acoustic soundtrack for the first person melee/shooter Warhammer: The End Times - Vermintide, based on the popular Games Workshop Warhammer series, will be released via digital and streaming outlets on September 26. The 36-track album compiled by Kyd includes the core game's original soundtrack, new music from the DLC expansions as well as instrumental songs heard in the game's local tavern, Red Moon Inn. Pre-order the official soundtrack now at Amazon, iTunes and Sumthing.com.

"It's a dynamic, raw and violent score that belongs to Vermintide's dark medieval setting," says Jesper Kyd. "We wanted the score to sound like it was performed by a Skaven band on acoustic instruments mangled by some mad Skaven scientist in the dark ages. It's very different from anything I have written in the past."

Kyd also mixed the score's visceral tracks with more traditional folk music, performed by a three-piece band in an old English-style pub, the Red Moon Inn, to give contrast to the intense combat experience and Skaven music, and to further define the historical period of Vermintide's world.

Developed by independent games studio Fatshark in Sweden, Warhammer: The End Times - Vermintide is a co-operative action first person shooter and melee combat adventure set in the End Times of the iconic Warhammer fantasy universe. Vermintide is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.

Lakeshore Records: "REMEMORY" by Gregory Tripi

REMEMORY was written by Michael Vukadinovich and Mark Palansky and produced by Daniel Bekerman and Lee Clay. The film explores the unexplained death of Gordon Dunn (Martin Donovan), a visionary scientific pioneer whose body is found shortly after the unveiling of his newest work: a device able to extract, record and play a person’s memories. Gordon’s wife, Carolyn (Julia Ormond – Mad Men, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Legends of the Fall), retreats into her house and cuts off contact with the outside world when a mysterious man (Peter Dinklage – Game of Thrones, X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Station Agent) shows up. After stealing the machine, he uses it to try and solve the mystery, beginning an investigation of memories that lead him to unexpected and dangerous places.

Directed by Palansky (Penelope, Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events), REMEMORY folds science, superstition and the supernatural into a place where one man finds terror – and the truth. The film will be released by Google Play on August 24th, 2017, and will be in theaters by Lionsgate Premiere on September 8th, 2017.

Lakeshore Records: "BoJack Horseman" (Music From the Netflix Original Series)

Lakeshore Records will release BoJack Horseman (Music From the Netflix Original Series) digitally September 8th, on CD September 29th and vinyl coming this winter.  The soundtrack features the iconic main title track by Patrick Carney, and the infectious closing theme by Grouplove.  Michelle Branch, Oberhofer, Nina Simone and original songs and score by Jesse Novak are also featured.  The album was produced and music supervised by Andy Gowan.

Set in a Los Angeles in which humans and anthropomorphic animal-people coexist, BoJack Horseman is the Critics’ Choice Award-Winning animated show about one man (who is also a horse) who peaked early and is trying to figure out what to do with his life now. An outrageous and dark comedy with a melancholy center, the show asks the question, “What happens when you have the world at your fingertips and you still can’t figure out how to be happy?”

2K: "XCOM® 2: WAR OF THE CHOSEN" by Composer Tim Wynn

2K released the XCOM® 2: War of the Chosen - Original Game Soundtrack digitally on August 29, 2017. The album features original music by Tim Wynn (Disney’s Mech-X4, Darkness II).

“Overall the music for XCOM 2: War of the Chosen has a much darker and grittier tone that of XCOM2,” Wynn described.  Although XCOM 2 is about Earth’s potential alien encounter with Earth, for this score I went old school and went more analog.  It was my first score using the Matrix Brute.  It’s a wicked sounding analog beast.  I guess you could best describe the XCOM 2: War of the Chosen sound as being orchestral analog.”

XCOM 2: War of the Chosen also allowed Wynn to revisit the themes he created for XCOM2 and XCOM2: Shen’s Last Gift.   “Even though the focus of the music for XCOM 2: War of the Chosen is mainly on the new characters, there is still plenty of themes from XCOM 2,” said Wynn.  “The emotional themes for the WOTC soundtrack actually come from the first DLC XCOM 2 Shen’s Last Gift. The theme revolves around a father saying goodbye to his daughter Lily Shen.”

XCOM 2: War of the Chosen adds extensive new content in the fight against ADVENT when additional resistance factions form in order to eliminate the alien threat on Earth. In response, a new enemy, known as the “Chosen,” emerges with one goal: recapture the Commander. The expansion includes new Hero classes to counter the “Chosen”, new enemies, missions, environments and increased depth in strategic gameplay.

COMPOSER BEAR McCREARY CHANNELS PERCUSSIVE SOUNDS OF THE TYPEWRITER TO SCORE J.D. SALINGER BIOPIC - REBEL IN THE RYE

Composer Bear McCreary (10 Cloverfield Lane, TV’s Outlander), known for his infectious use of percussive instruments and out-of-the-box musical approach, channels the sounds of the typewriter for the score for the J.D. Salinger biopic, Rebel in the Rye.  Sparks & Shadows will release the soundtrack on September 8th.

Rebel in the Rye may very well be a score that McCreary was destined to write.  The son of a novelist, the sound of a typewriter has been a companion since he was a child.  “The percussive cadence of typewriter tapping has rattled around my brain since I was born,” he said.  Scoring Rebel in the Rye gave McCreary the chance to channel those sounds, both figuratively and literally, into a rich, orchestral tapestry.

It took some convincing, though, for writer/director Danny Strong to see that McCreary, more known for films such as 10 Cloverfield Lane, and TV shows like The Walking Dead and Battlestar Galactica, was the right man for the job.  The two however shared a connection and musical inspiration – the great Elmer Bernstein.  After learning that McCreary was Elmer’s last protégé, working with him for nearly a decade, Strong was intrigued, and asked for musical demos from the composer.  Any reservations Strong may have had were quickly put to rest, and the two worked closely together during the scoring process.

Varèse Sarabande: "AMERICAN ASSASSIN" by Steven Price

Varèse Sarabande will release the AMERICAN ASSASSIN – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and on CD on September 15, 2017. The album features the original music composed by Steven Price (GRAVITY, SUICIDE SQUAD).

“Everything about [director] Michael Cuesta’s approach to the movie focused on character… the motivations and complex interrelationships between the story’s principle players” said Price. “We talked a lot about how the music could support Michael’s psychological approach to the storytelling.”

AMERICAN ASSASSIN follows the rise of Mitch Rapp (Dylan O'Brien), a CIA black ops recruit under the instruction of Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton). The pair is then enlisted by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan) to investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on both military and civilian targets. Together the three discover a pattern in the violence leading them to a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent (Shiva Negar) to stop a mysterious operative (Taylor Kitsch) intent on starting a world war.

“The very first scene in the film portrays a moment in our lead character’s life that changes everything, and gives him the motivation that drives his life beyond that point,” Price explained. “Within the cue that plays there I needed to capture the intensity and emotion of the events themselves, whilst also introducing themes and devices that would then reveal their importance as the film progresses.”

Price continued, “There are themes of loss, anger and revenge, and a lot of my job was giving the characters clear musical identities that we could develop and combine in various ways as the character’s journeys emerge and as the film builds to it’s climax. Michael was always looking for characters to have recognizable themes and sounds within a score that allowed the tension and mystery of the movie to develop in a very intense way.”

Steven Price is an Academy Award-winning composer. In 2014 his groundbreaking score for Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity won him not only the Academy Award but also the BAFTA, Critics’ Choice Award, the Satellite Award, and ASCAP’s first-ever Film Composer of The Year Award. Subsequent projects have included Fury, the WWII epic starring Brad Pitt, written and directed by David Ayer; Believe, a drama series produced by Alfonso Cuaron and JJ Abrams for NBC; the BBC’s The Hunt, a landmark natural history documentary series for which Price won his second BAFTA, and Warner Brothers’ 2016 hit Suicide Squad.

Price’s debut feature score was for Joe Cornish’s 2011 feature Attack the Block, produced by Edgar Wright. The score earned Price awards for Best Original Soundtrack from both the Austin Film Critics Association and the Sitges Film Festival. Price’s collaboration with Wright continued in 2013, with Price composing the original score for the Universal comedy The World’s End, before the release in 2017 of Baby Driver marked the culmination of a ten-year creative process.

Lakeshore Records "LOOK AND SEE: A PORTRAIT OF WENDELL BERRY"

LOOK & SEE revolves around the divergent stories of several residents of Henry County, Kentucky who each face difficult choices that will dramatically reshape their relationship with the land and their community.

In 1965, Wendell Berry returned home to Henry County, where he bought a small farm house and began a life of farming, writing and teaching.  This lifelong relationship with the land and community would come to form the core of his prolific writings. A half century later Henry County, like many rural communities across America, has become a place of quiet ideological struggle. In the span of a generation, the agrarian virtues of simplicity, land stewardship, sustainable farming, local economies and rootedness to place have been replaced by a capital-intensive model of industrial agriculture characterized by machine labor, chemical fertilizers, soil erosion and debt - all of which have frayed the fabric of rural communities. Writing from a long wooden desk beneath a forty-paned window, Berry has watched this struggle unfold, becoming one of its most passionate and eloquent voices in defense of agrarian life.

Filmed across four seasons in the farming cycle, LOOK & SEE blends observational scenes of farming life, interviews with farmers and community members with evocative, carefully framed shots of the surrounding landscape.  Thus, in the spirit of Berry’s agrarian philosophy, Henry County itself will emerge as a character in the film - a place and a landscape that is deeply interdependent with the people that inhabit it.
