Intrada: "STARGATE SG-1 Music from Selected Episodes" Composed by RICHARD BAND

Intrada presents a 2-CD set of Richard Band's scores to four episodes of Stargate SG-1: "Cold Lazurus," "In the Line of Duty," "The Serpent's Lair," and "Singularity."  Band’s genre experience made him well suited to handle Stargate SG-1’s mix of science fiction, action and drama, and he used a combination of small orchestral ensembles and synthesizers to work within the show’s music budget while still maintaining an appropriate science fiction palette.

The first episode scored by Band was “Cold Lazarus,” where he had to characterize the strangeness of the featured alien planet, with some subtle suggestions of material
from David Arnold’s original Stargate score as well as a wavering, atmospheric motive and a variety of percussion effects that create a nervous, unpredictable feeling.

Season two’s “In the Line of Duty” opens with Richard Band’s underscoring a sprawling action scene with a humanoid alien attack on the planet Nasya. Band's score features a keening, slithery variation of Arnold’s B theme, as well as the more romantic version of the B theme.

Stargate SG-1’s second season opened with the action-packed “The Serpent’s Lair,” which has the team infiltrating a warship to head off an attack on Earth. Band composed the Finale, driven by his percussive military material, and wraps up with a warm synthesizer statement of Arnold’s main theme as the crisis is averted.

The last episode featured is “Singularity." Band’s “Teaser” opens with some grand chords for establishing shots of the stargate in operation, while the rest of the score features everything from droll underscoring for a little comic banter, a military motif playing alongside snares and low, staccato keyboard notes as the team enters the stargate, while wailing synthesizer notes, creaking waterphone effects and a touch of choir accentuate the horror and mystery of the plague they discover on the other side.

The TV series followed three years after the theatrical release of Stargate, on the SyFy Channel. In the series, Richard Dean Anderson (MacGyver) took on Kurt Russell’s role of tough-talking military officer Colonel Jack O’Neill, while Michael Shanks played the wet-behind-the-ears Dr. Jackson. Joining Anderson and Shanks were Amanda Tapping as Major Samantha Carter, a pilot and astrophysicist who was an expert on the stargate technology, and Christopher Judge as Teal’c, a warrior from one of the numerous planets enslaved by the Goa’uld, the symbiotic half-human, half-alien race who were the chief antagonists of the original Stargate movie and the subsequent television series. While it extensively employed the iconography and story elements of the movie, Stargate SG-1 quickly established its own characters and themes, growing in popularity and eventually running for an incredible 10 seasons and spawning two spinoffs, Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe.

UPDATE: LA-LA LAND RECORDS RELEASE "TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT" [2Cd] MUSIC BY STEVE JABLONSKY

Paramount Pictures will release TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT- MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE digitally on June 23, 2017, and La-La Land Records will release a limited edition 2-CD SET (of 3000 units) at www.lalalandrecords.com on July 11, 2017. These releases feature the film’s original motion picture score, composed by Steve Jablonsky (TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION, ENDER’S GAME).

Jablonsky and TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT director Michael Bay continue an exciting, longstanding collaboration that has forged numerous cinematic blockbusters, including the previous four TRANSFORMERS films: TRANSFORMERS, TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN, TRANSFORMERS: DARK SIDE OF THE MOON and TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION.

“I met with Michael before he started shooting Transformers: The Last Knight,” recalled Jablonsky. “He showed me some amazing concept art and explained how the story connects the history of Transformers all the way back to the times of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. I loved the idea because it gave me the opportunity to explore new musical ideas… The storyline allowed me to write melodies that are a bit more “classical” than I’ve written for the other Transformers films, which was a lot of fun for me.”

“Another important aspect of the story revolves around massive skyscraper sized ‘horns from hell’ that start emerging from the earth,” describes Jablonsky. “They look like gigantic animal horns, no one knows what they are or why they have appeared. I wanted to create an unsettling sense of mystery and tension with the music.”

Jablonsky has composed the music for many of Hollywood’s most successful films. In addition to the legendary TRANSFORMERS film franchise, he previously created the music for director Bay’s dark comedy, PAIN & GAIN, as well as his 2005 futuristic thriller, THE ISLAND.  In addition, Jablonsky composed the scores for Bay’s Platinum Dunes horror remakes A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, FRIDAY THE 13TH, THE HITCHER, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE and THE AMITYVILLE HORROR.

The composer has also worked on multiple projects with director Peter Berg, including the action drama LONE SURVIVOR, starring Mark Wahlberg and Taylor Kitsch, and the action adventure BATTLESHIP, starring Liam Neeson and Alexander Skarsgård.  He continued his collaboration with Berg on the action-thriller DEEPWATER HORIZON. Jablonsky also recently composed the score for the Keegan-Michael Key-Jordan Peele action-comedy KEANU, and the Michael Bay-produced action-adventure TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS.

The TRANSFORMERS: THE LAST KNIGHT – MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE will be available digitally from Paramount Pictures on June 23rd, 2017 and the limited edition 2-CD set is available from www.lalalandrecords.com on July 11, 2017.

It's time to "ROLL-OUT" and get this score, from a composer who understands who to light up a TRANSFORMER! Also, from a label that pays attention detail from cover to the music!

MVD Entertainment Group: MONSTER HUNT [DVD]

Monster Hunt, China's highest-grossing movie of all time until just recently, is coming to DVD via FilmRise and MVD Entertainment Group on June 13th.

Made for around $50 million, Monster Hunt has grossed over $390 million to set China's all-time box office record. It beat out several foreign titles to get there, including Furious 7, Transformers: Age of Extinction, and Avatar. Directed by Shrek the Third co-director Raman Hui, the live-action / CG fantasy epic centers on a war between monsters and humans. At the center of the story is Wuba, a baby monster born to a human man. Yes, a man.

In a mythical ancient world, monsters rule their land while humans keep to their own kingdom. But when adorable baby monster Wuba is born to a human father and the monster queen, mortals and creatures alike set out to capture the newborn, and Wuba's epic adventure begins. This is the latest film from Raman Hui - whose animated work includes modern-day children's classics "Shrek," "Madagascar" and "Antz." "Monster Hunt" smashed box office records when it became the highest-grossing film in China's history. This family-friendly version is intended for kids of all ages and has been dubbed in English.

Slash Film says, "Maybe the cute little baby monster will attract enough curious American moviegoers to make it a modest success. After all, if there's anything Star Wars' BB-8 taught us, it's that adorable blobs cross all cultural and linguistic barriers."

BACK LOT MUSIC: "CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS: THE FIRST EPIC MOVIE" featuring music by Theodore Shapiro

Based on the worldwide sensation and bestselling book series, and boasting an A-list cast of comedy superstars headed by Kevin Hart and Ed Helms, DreamWorks Animation brings audiences the long-awaited global movie event, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie. This raucously subversive comedy for the entire family tells the story of two overly imaginative pranksters named George and Harold, who hypnotize their principal into thinking he's a ridiculously enthusiastic, incredibly dimwitted superhero named Captain Underpants.

In the first decade of the 21st century, film score composer Theodore Shapiro (aka Teddy Shapiro) became the go-to guy for movie comedies starring the major comic actors of the time, including Ben Stiller, Will Farrell, and Owen Wilson. He was born Theodore Michael Shapiro on September 29, 1971, in Washington, D.C., and earned a B.A. in music from Brown University, then a masters from the Juilliard School of Music. In 1993, he scored episodes of the television series The State. His first film score came with the crime drama Hurricane Streets in 1998; his first comedy was Safe Men later that same year. In 1999, he scored the comedy Six Ways to Sunday and the boxing documentary On the Ropes (along with Ray "Web" Davis). The drama Restaurant was released in early 2000, followed that year by the adventure film Prince of Central Park; another film taking boxing as its subject, Girlfight; and, at the end of the year, the David Mamet comedy State and Main. In 2001, Shapiro scored Wet Hot American Summer, Heist, and Not Another Teen Movie.

His only film of 2002 was Love in the Time of Money, but in 2003 he had two comedy scores, Old School (with Luke Wilson, Will Farrell, and Vince Vaughn) and View from the Top. No less than four comedies followed in 2004: Along Came Polly (Ben Stiller, Jennifer Aniston); Starsky & Hutch (Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn); 13 Going on 30; and Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn). In 2005, Shapiro scored the comedies The Baxter and Fun with Dick and Jane (Jim Carrey), and in 2006 the comedies The Devil Wears Prada; You, Me and Dupree (Owen Wilson); and Idiocracy (Luke Wilson). Bug, released in early 2007, was more of a drama than a comedy, but Blades of Glory (Will Farrell), which followed shortly, was played for laughs; Shapiro also scored Mr. Woodcock and The Girl in the Park that year. His three movies of 2008 were Semi-Pro (Will Farrell), Tropic Thunder (Ben Stiller, Jack Black), and Marley & Me (Owen Wilson, Jennifer Aniston), and in 2009 he had I Love You, Man, The Mysteries of Pittsburgh, and Year One (Jack Black).

LAKESHORE RECORDS: "MR. ROBOT" VOLUMES 3 & 4 Featuring Original Music By Mac Quayle

Lakeshore Records will release the first of two volumes of music from the second season of the EMMY®, Golden Globe®, and Peabody Award-Winning USA Network series MR. ROBOT.   MR. ROBOT V.3 will be digitally released on June 9, while the V.3 CD and the second volume, MR. ROBOT V.4, both digital and CD, are set to release later this summer.  Volumes 3&4 feature the original score by composer Mac Quayle (FEUD: BETTE AND JOAN, AMERICAN HORROR STORY), who won the Emmy for his music in MR. ROBOT Season 1.  Later this year, Invada Records, in partnership with Lakeshore Records, will release a special LP package.

"If the first season of MR. ROBOT took us into Elliot’s mind, the second season drew us deeper into his subconscious.” Said Composer Mac Quayle. “As we learned, it’s pretty dark in there and so naturally the music followed suit. Darker, weirder, more dissonant, more paranoid.”

From Universal Cable Productions, MR. ROBOT follows Elliot (Rami Malek), a young programmer who works as a cyber-security engineer by day and as a vigilante hacker by night.  Elliot finds himself at a crossroads when the mysterious leader (Christian Slater) of an underground hacker group recruits him to destroy the firm he is paid to protect.  Compelled by his personal beliefs, Elliot struggles to resist the chance to take down the multinational CEOs he believes are running (and ruining) the world.  The series also stars Portia Doubleday, Carly Chaikin and Martin Wallström. Season 2 picks up 30 days after the now infamous fsociety 5/9 hack on multi-national company Evil Corp and explored the consequences of that attack as well as the illusion of control.  Season 3 will premiere in October 2017.

MovieScore Media: Miles by Justin Bell and Jonathan Levi Shanes

Coinciding with the film’s theatrical and VOD premiere on June 9, Miles is the latest presentation of MovieScore Media - co-written and directed by Nathan Adloff, the film has already won several awards at festivals such as the California Independent Film Festival or the L.A. Outfest. The film tells the story of a kid from middle America who is desperate to move to Chicago, joins the volleyball team to get a scholarship - the only catch is that his high school only has a girls team. Starring Tim Boardman, Missi Pyle, Paul Reiser and Molly Shannon, Miles  also spans the feature film debut score of composers Justin Bell and Jonathan Levi Shanes.

Working in tandem comes naturally to Bell and Shanes. For years they worked side by side in the trenches of Hollywood’s puissant film scoring arena as composers, arrangers and orchestrators alongside Golden Globe and Emmy Nominated composer Johnny Klimek on films like Tom Tykwer’s A Hologram for the King, Tykwer and Wachowskis joint efforts Cloud Atlas and Netflix Original Series Sense8, Greg McLean thrillers Jungle and The Darkness, and many more. Nathan Adloff’s Miles marks the duo’s feature film debut, at times offering moments of musing melancholy, and at others, “wispy and whimsical music” (Hollywood Reporter) for Adloff’s film with “boundless warmth and humor” (rogerebert.com).

Establishing the 90’s tone needed for this 1999 set period dramedy was paramount, so when Adloff tasked the composers with producing a pop song to open the film, “Stop and Go” was born. Other tracks featuring Shanes on vocals peppers Miles with regular doses of decade reminders, echoing writer Justin D.M. Palmer’s capacious nods to 90’s pop culture. The score’s most prominent instrumentation parallels the film’s intimacy, featuring petite instruments like ukulele and glockenspiel, with emotive cello melodies highlighting Miles’ delicate but steadfast relationship with his mother. Ultimately, the composers sought to create a personal, heartfelt score to reflect the small town atmosphere and the intimate nature of Miles’ family drama.

Set against the backdrop of one of the most explosive times in U.K. history, Guerrilla tells the story of a politically active couple whose relationship and values are tested when they liberate a political prisoner and form a radical underground cell in 1970s London.

SILVA SCREEN RECORDS: "HARLOTS" MUSIC BY: RAEL JONES

Digital album release of Rael Jones’s bold and anachronistic soundtrack to Hulu & ITV’s 8-part series set in the 18th Century brothels of London. The soundtrack mixes electronica and stoner rock genres, underpinning the story and reflecting the experiences and rebellious nature of the women depicted in the programme.

Described by Hollywood Reporter as “intriguingly unique”, this period drama with a contemporary twist was entirely written, directed and produced entirely by women. The show was inspired by a book called Harris’s_ List of Convent Garden Ladies, a Yellow Pages-style directory that featured a list of prostitutes, their ages, price and sexual perversions. Harlots is airing on ITV Encore, the network’s channel dedicated to drama and stars Samantha Morton (_Fantastic Beasts, Rillington Place, The Last Panthers, Minority Report, Cider with Rosie), Lesley Manville (Mum, River, Maleficent) and Jessica Brown Findlay (Victor Frankenstein, The Outcast, Downton Abbey).

Rael Jones is a classically trained composer and Multi-Instrumentalist. His writing stems from improvisation and live performance, and he is a highly accomplished player of many instruments - Piano, Guitars, Drums, Autoharp and Musical Saw. Rael regularly tours as a guitarist with Guillemots front man Fyfe Dangerfield, as well as with his own band Thumpermonkey.

Rael’s film and TV credits include My Cousin Rachel, Suite Française, Supersonic (the feature documentary about the band Oasis), NW (the TV adaptation of Zadie Smith’s NW), the coming-of-age drama Kids In Love and the feature documentary Still The Enemy Within. As orchestrator, music producer, music editor and programmer Rael has worked on film adaptation of Les Misérables, Steve Jobs, The Danish Girl, Alan Partridge, The Inbetweeners Movie.

“There are few filmmakers I admire as much as Oliver Stone,” said Beal.  “His fearless approach in tackling tough subjects is legendary, artistic and provocative.  I am honored to be composing the score for The Putin Interviews for him.  In a time of such political noise and anxiety, this series gives us a timely view into a world we’ve never seen, from the inside-out.”

VARÈSE SARABANDE: "THE BIG SICK" Featuring Original Score by Michael Andrews And The Song “My Love” by The Bird and The Bee

“[Director] Michael Showalter talked mainly about the thematic division in the film – it starts as a traditional romantic comedy and then there is a sharp departure into a drama after Emily’s sickness,” said Andrews. “He wanted a specific marker through a sharp musical departure starting after Kumail becomes aware that Emily has become sick.”

The SXSW Festival award winning film based on the real-life courtship between Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon, THE BIG SICK tells the story of Pakistan-born aspiring comedian Kumail (Nanjiani), who connects with grad student Emily (Zoe Kazan) after one of his standup sets. Varèse Sarabande will release THE HOUSE - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and on CD June 30, 2017. “Two of our favorite songs ‘Love My People’ and ‘We Just Came To Party’ sum up the spirit and the insanity of the film; people doing crazy things, throwing wild parties and having an amazing time!” said Feltenstein.  Crown and the M.O.B., who will be the house artist for the 2017 ESPY Awards, perform these original tracks, which were penned by the composers.

After Scott and Kate Johansen (Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler) lose their daughter Alex’s college fund, they become desperate to earn it back so she can pursue her dream of attending a university. With the help of their neighbor Frank (Jason Mantzoukas), they decide to start an illegal casino in his house.

Varèse Sarabande will release the John Williams: Themes and Transcriptions for piano digitally and on CD July 7. The album features the original music composed by John Williams from classic films like Lincoln, THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, SCHINDLER’s LIST and HARRY POTTER, among others. All pieces were specialty recorded for this release and performed by acclaimed classical pianist Simone Pedroni.

“This recording will take you on a wondrous journey through the music of a composer who, at the age of 85, manages to keep intact within himself a sort of spiritual amazement, disarming innocence and genuine humility, “ said Pedroni. “Williams is the master of the unsaid, or if you prefer, of the unspoken.”

“This is a unique album amongst John Williams’ vast discography,” said Varèse Sarabande Producer Robert Townson. “Simone Pedroni is a brilliant pianist. A classical artist who grew up listing to great film music and the scores of John Williams, alongside his studies of Bach and Rachmaninoff. He represents a new generation of classical artists. In the additional transcriptions Simone created for this album, he used his own considerable artistry in order to most accurately translate these beautifully orchestrated film music classics for solo piano.”

VARÈSE SARABANDE: HOUSE OF CARDS Season 5 – NETFLIX SERIES... Featuring Original Music Composed By Emmy® Award-Winning Composer Jeff Beal

Varèse Sarabande will release the HOUSE OF CARDS Season 5  - Original Netflix Series Soundtrack digitally on June 9 and CD June 30, 2017. “I love secrets in stories, and we have some great ones in season five,” said Beal.  “Tracks like ‘Infamy’, 'A Note From Tom’, ‘Saved My Life, and ‘Don’t Go Their Way’ all explore the territory of secrets in musical terms. These pieces feel a bit like musical riddles or puzzles.”

The fifth season of the critically acclaimed Emmy® -nominated drama House of Cards premiered Tuesday, May 30, 2017. The series’ Golden Globe® winning stars Kevin Spacey (as Francis Underwood) and Robin Wright (as Claire Underwood), whose characters have always been each other's strongest allies, show cracks in their relationship. House of Cards also stars Michael Kelly, Jayne Atkinson, Neve Campbell, Derek Cecil, Paul Sparks and Joel Kinnaman.

VARÈSE SARABANDE: "2:22" Featuring Original Music Composed By Lisa Gerrard and James Orr

Varèse Sarabande will release the 2:22 – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on June 30 and CD later this year. The album features the original music composed by Lisa Gerrard (JANE GOT A GUN, GLADIATOR) and James Orr (additional music JANE GOT A GUN, BALIBO).

“The director was very sensitive to sound and tone,” described Gerrard.  “There was scope in the score for a main theme for the two principal characters, Dylan and Sarah. This is played briefly at the beginning of the film with piano, and then resurfaces throughout in various different guises, culminating in the orchestra in the finale.”

“The theme itself was one element, but the nature of the sound that produced it was very important to him. It needed to fit in with the idea of it being something contemporary and fresh,” Orr added.  “We experimented a lot with recording both organic and synthetic sounds - voice, piano, guitar, strings - but manipulating them in a way that twisted them more to an electronic feel. The voice was key throughout, but it's often used in a way that morphs the sound into something else, and is often a textural component and not a lead.”

Caldera Records: "The Black Prince" Music composed and conducted by George Kallis

Caldera Records is proud to present George Kallis’ original score for the motion picture “The Black Prince” from 2017, directed by Kavi Raz. The films tells the touching and exhilarating story of Maharaja Duleep Singh, the last king of Punjab before its British annexation. After the First Anglo-Sikh War, the king sees himself torn between his own country and England and struggles to regain his own kingdom. The title role of the Maharaja is portrayed by Punjabi poet and singer Satinder Sartaaj who delivers a strong performance in the film that also stars Jason Flemyng and Amanda Root. One of the main stars of the film is the music, composed and conducted by George Kallis who has composed music for over 20 films and Emmy and BAFTA award-winning TV programs. With this colourful and highly entertaining score, highlighting tender moments and fierce action, Kallis delivers one of his strongest efforts to date. The score showcases several memorable themes and leitmotifs, such as a main theme for the Maharaja, a theme for his mother and for his first wife, with several other motifs which portray Punjab and its characteristics. There are delicate elements of ethnic music in the score but with its soaring orchestral concept “The Black Prince” has its own universal language that connects all countries. The music was recorded in Hungary, conducted by the composer himself. The 20th CD-release of Caldera Records features a detailed booklet-text by Gergely Hubai and elegant artwork by Luis Miguel Rojas. The CD was produced by Stephan Eicke and John Elborg.

When you get the chance to discover a new composer’s work only to realize you have been listening to their works for years. I had this experience with composer George Kallis, he is an amazing artist and here “The Black Prince” shows the music can still move you sending you into another world. Strong tones with a harmonious chanting woven within... thank you.

LAKESHORE RECORDS PRESENTS A SECOND SOUNDTRACK FOR THE FIRST SEASON OF FX NETWORKS’ CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED DRAMA SERIES LEGION Featuring Original Music by Jeff Russo

LEGION Season 1 Volume 2 - Original Television Soundtrack digitally on June 9, 2017. The album contains additional original music by Jeff Russo (Fargo, The Night Of) with two sought after pieces – the special Legion “Fauxlero” version of Maurice Ravel’s “Bolero” and Dan Stevens performing The Muppets’ classic "The Rainbow Connection" on banjo.

"So glad to be releasing volume 2 of the season one score. There were a number of cues that we just couldn't let out of the bag until after we aired,” explained Russo. “‘Fauxlero’ was so much fun to put together and when was the last time you heard a harpsichord cue?”

Legion, based on the Marvel Comics by Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz, is the story of David Haller (Dan Stevens) – a troubled young man who may be more than human. Diagnosed as schizophrenic as a child, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. Now in his early 30s and institutionalized once again, David loses himself in the rhythm of the structured regimen of life in the hospital: breakfast, lunch, dinner, therapy, medications, sleep. David spends the rest of his time in companionable silence alongside his chatterbox friend Lenny (Aubrey Plaza), a fellow patient whose life-long drug and alcohol addiction has done nothing to quell her boundless optimism that her luck is about to change. The pleasant numbness of David’s routine is completely upended with the arrival of a beautiful and troubled new patient named Syd (Rachel Keller). Inexplicably drawn to one another, David and Syd share a startling encounter, after which he must confront the shocking possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees are the result of him being a mutant.

MovieScore Media "Past Life" Music by Cyrille Aufort

Coinciding with the movie’s American premiere, MovieScore Media presents Cyrille Aufort’s score for Past Life, a thrilling investigation into the sins of the past. Written and directed by Avi Nesher, Past Life tracks the daring late 1970s odyssey of two sisters - an introverted classical musician and a rambunctious journalist as they unravel a shocking wartime mystery that has cast a dark shadow on their entire lives. Since one of the main characters is also a musician, the score for Past Life includes not only traditional underscore, but also original, deliberately challenging pieces that were commissioned especially for the film, to be performed by the in dramatic moments.

As composer Cyrille Aufort recalls: "When Avi and I talked about Past Life, he told me it was a quest for truth of two sisters haunted by a dark secret. That’s why he the score to play with different moods so I started composing with the idea of going from dramatic, romantic and emotional themes to some kind of action music in the archives scene. The main title was composed with the character of Sefi in mind. On the one hand I wanted it to have a lyrical touch and on the other I wanted to add something else, some kind of dark quality to it. That’s what Past Life’s score is, a blend of several musical components that mirrors the feelings of the characters. I really want to thank Joy Rieger for lending her voice to this music."

RLJ Entertainment "PRISONER X"

RLJ Entertainment (NASDAQ: RLJE) brings you PRISONER X, based on the novella, “Truth,” by Robert Reed and written and directed by Gaurav Seth (A Passage to Ottawa). The film stars Michelle Nolden (The Time Traveler’s Wife), Romano Orzari (“Taken”), Damon Runyan (“Degrassi: The Next Generation”) and Julian Richings (“Orphan Black”). PRISONER X will be available on Digital, VOD and DVD on June 6, 2017.

On a cold February night, a young man is found unconscious at the wheel of a crashed vehicle in Montana not far from the Canadian border and a lump of weapons-grade Uranium is recovered from the trunk. He is immediately thrown into a high-security prison and tortured relentlessly for months. But apart from a few vicious-sounding curses in an unknown language, he utters nothing. Then one day out of the blue, he gives his interrogators a list of numbers and letters, which turn out to be astronomical coordinates of upcoming Supernova explosions. The very next day the first of those celestial events occurs exactly as predicted, sending shock-waves through the security establishment. It’s obvious; the man in custody is no ordinary terrorist. He is a time-traveller from the future.

Fifteen years later, RAMIRO still sits in the same secret prison two kilometres under the ground, but much has changed in the world above. Based on the information he has provided over the years, the US has waged a relentless war on terror in an attempt to neutralize the remaining ninety-eight “temporal jihadists” Ramiro claims arrived with him. Several countries in the Middle-East have been invaded, Pakistan has been wiped off the map and India is next on the list. But the terrorists, led by their enigmatic leader Abraham, remain at large.

Such are the state of affairs the day CIA agent CARMEN REESE arrives at the prison. Her immediate task is to investigate the mysterious death of her predecessor – a talented interrogator, who had successfully secured Ramiro’s cooperation for years. Was it suicide as the evidence suggests? Or was it murder? Carmen knows that the answers to these questions are linked to bigger, more important questions: Is Ramiro who he claims to be? And what is his real agenda?

MVD Entertainment Group "Cops vs Thugs" (2-Disc Special Edition) [Blu-ray + DVD]

Considered by many to be director Kinji Fukasaku's greatest single-film achievement in the yakuza genre, Cops vs Thugs was made at the height of popularity of Toei Studios' jitsuroku boom: realistic, modern crime movies based on true stories taken from contemporary headlines. Returning to the screen after completing their Battles Without Honor and Humanity series together, Fukasaku joined forces once again with screenwriter Kazuo Kasahara, composer Toshiaki Tsushima and star Bunta Sugawara to create one of the crowning achievements of his career, and a hard-boiled classic which is still ranked as one of the best Japanese films of the 1970's.

It's 1963 in the southern Japanese city of Kurashima, and tough-as-nails detective Kuno (Sugawara) oversees a detente between the warring Kawade and Ohara gangs. Best friends with Ohara lieutenant Hirotani (Hiroki Matsukata), he understands that there are no clear lines in the underworld, and that everything is colored a different shade of gray. But when random violence interrupts the peace and an ambitious, by-the-books lieutenant (Tatsuo Umemiya) comes to town, Kuno's fragile alliance begins to crumble. Greedy bosses and politicians alike seize the opportunity to wipe out their enemies, and Kuno faces the painful choice of pledging allegiance to his badge and keeping a promise to his brother.  Echoing the great crime films of Sidney Lumet and Jean-Pierre Melville, in Fukasaku's world, there's no honor among thieves or lawmen alike, and the only thing that matters is personal honor and duty among friends. Kasahara's shattering screenplay and Fukasaku's dynamic direction support an all-star, ensemble cast to create one of the most exciting, and deeply moving films about cops and criminals ever made.
