A Fellow of the Sundance Institute Composer’s Lab, Zoë boasts songwriting and scoring credits for major motion pictures (STARSHIP TROOPERS, SHADOW OF DOUBT) and multiple festival favorites (WHITE OF WINTER). She is the eldest daughter of late film composer Basil Poledouris.

Each night, when Ben falls asleep, his Crayons jump into their magical Crayon Box, which transports them to their home in COLOR CITY, a world of dazzling hues, soaring fantasy and the whimsy of childhood. This land is fed by an enchanted rainbow and waterfall that provides the City and its citizens with color.

When YELLOW, our timid heroine, is accidentally left behind in Ben's room, she inadvertently awakens two Unfinished Drawings: KING SCRAWL, a huge, powerful, mute monster -- and GNAT, Scrawl's motor-mouthed, overactive sidekick. In search of color for themselves, they follow Yellow to Color City, causing panic and concern. If Scrawl and Gnat can claim the waterfall for themselves, Color City will fade, and along with it, our lovable crayon characters will disappear.

It's up to Yellow and a motley crew of Crayons, bodacious and brave, BLUE, meticulous, fussy GREEN, satirical RED, pessimistic BLACK and overanxious WHITE to save the day. Meeting with fantastical creatures and fun adventures along the way, Yellow discovers she has more courage and strength than she knew and learns to believe in herself and to count on the support of her friends.

Lakeshore Records: FROM INSIDE [GARY NUMAN SPECIAL EDITION]

Lakeshore Records will release the FROM INSIDE – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and on CD on October 7th, and will release the FROM INSIDE: GARY NUMAN SPECIAL EDITION on DVD on October 21, 2014.  The album features original music by Gary Numan & Ade Fenton.

FROM INSIDE was Numan’s first solo foray into writing for film.  He explained, “With an album of rock songs you work in a verse / chorus type of format, with film you have no such limits. Although I'm very new to film composing to me it was a very welcome change, it was surprisingly liberating as a writer to not be tied to the 'song' approach to making music.”

The British-born Numan first reached prominence as a member of Tubeway Army and later as a solo artist during the British New Wave movement of the 1980s.  Widely credited as one of the founding fathers of ‘synth-pop’, Numan has been a lasting hero of electronic musicians for several decades, releasing over 35 albums and constantly touring since first breaking onto the scene.

Based on the epic graphic novel by John Bergin, FROM INSIDE is the story of Cee, a young pregnant woman who finds herself on a damaged train slowly transcribing its way across a bleak post-apocalyptic landscape.  Flood, war, starvation and a plague of death threaten the train’s passengers.  Cee struggles through these dangers while coping with the memory of her lost husband and the imminent birth of her child.

“FROM INSIDE is reserved and dark. If the story itself had a sound it would be a quiet one-note drone,” said Bergin. “Gary’s music brought life and dynamics to the film that it was sorely missing. The film is a much better experience with his music. I couldn’t be more happy with the score.”

Lakeshore Records presents FROM INSIDE: GARY NUMAN SPECIAL EDITION available digitally and on DVD October 21, 2014.  The FROM INSIDE – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack will be available digitally and on CD October 7, 2014.

I am a huge fan of this score, now the special edition with the always talented Gary Newman... I am loving this score, adventure into your head.

Cinedigm: Sharknado 2: The Second One [BLU-RAY/DVD]

Syfy’s ratings record-breaker turned pop culture phenomenon continues with the epic adventure, Sharknado 2: The Second One, hitting shores as a never-before-aired extended version on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD October 7 from Cinedigm (NASDAQ: CIDM) and The Asylum.

In this new Shark-tastic adventure, stars Ian Ziering (“Beverly Hills, 90210”) and Tara Reid (American Pie) reprise their roles from the original, now iconic disaster film Sharknado. Joining the cast is Vivica A. Fox (Kill Bill, Volume 1), platinum recording artist Mark McGrath, comedian Judah Friedlander (“30 Rock”) and a huge collection of celebrities making must-see cameo appearances, including Kelly Osbourne, Perez Hilton, Billy Ray Cyrus, Al Roker, Matt Lauer, Andy Dick and more!

Directed by Anthony C. Ferrante (Sharknado), the terrifying and hilarious sequel to Syfy’s smash hit film once again matches heroes against sharks who are swept up into deadly storms to form lethal “Sharknadoes.” This time, terror hits the Big Apple and no one is safe!

When a Category 7 hurricane pummels New York, the surging floodwaters bring thousands of sharks. To make matters worse, tornadoes soon dot the horizon. As Sharknadoes tear through the city, no vehicle, building, or national monument is safe.

Films can be silly without even trying and then there are films... you say LET'S HAVE SOME FUN, AGAIN" that is Sharknado 2: The Second One. I was like the millions who tuned into this film not because we wanted to see an Oscar performance, nope we wanted to see sharks eat everything up. They did, it was a great fun film... I await the third!

Lakeshore Records: KITE [2014] - Paul Hepker

Lakeshore Records will release the KITE – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on September 30, 2014, and on CD October 21, 2014. The album features original music by Paul Hepker (TSOTSI, RENDITION).

Based on the groundbreaking, cult classic anime, KITE tells the story of Sawa (India Eisley), a young woman living in a corrupt society where crime and gangs terrorize the streets. When Sawa's mother and policeman father are found victims of a grisly double homicide, she begins a ruthless pursuit for the man who murdered them. With the help of her father's ex-partner, Karl Aker (Samuel L. Jackson), and a mysterious friend from her past (Callan McAuliffe), she becomes a merciless teen assassin, blasting her way through the dark world of human trafficking only to uncover a devastating truth.

“The challenge was to create an electronic score that still had heart. Capturing the aggression and edginess of an amped-up assassin is relatively simple when playing with twitchy machines – but the film demanded a musical layer that reflected our heroine’s pain, her vulnerability, her numbness,” explained Hepker. For inspiration Hepker looked to one of his own favorite scores, BLADE RUNNER. “Vangelis’ brilliant soundtrack from Ridley Scott’s masterpiece is proof-positive that machines can have souls, that monsters can be beautiful. I hope that some of BLADE RUNNER’s DNA found is way into the score for KITE.”

Videovision Entertainment, Distant Horizon, and Detalle Films presents KITE currently available on DIRECTV and in theater and VOD on October 10, 2014. The KITE – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack will be available digitally September 30, 2014 and on CD October 21, 2014.

Lakeshore Records: WHITE BIRD IN A BLIZZARD [2014]

Lakeshore Records will release the WHITE BIRD IN A BLIZZARD – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on September 16, 2014.  The album features original music by Robin Guthrie (KABOOM, MYSTERIOUS SKIN, the band Cocteau Twins) and Harold Budd (MYSTERIOUS SKIN, Brian Eno, David Sylvian).

“Gregg Araki [WHITE BIRD IN A BLIZZARD director] has always been a big fan,” said Guthrie, “having used our music in many of his earlier films. He first approached us to fully score a movie in 2004 with MYSTERIOUS SKIN – just his way of getting a few of his favorite artists together.”

In WHITE BIRD IN A BLIZZARD, Kat Connors (Shailene Woodley) is 17 years old when her perfect homemaker mother, Eve (Eva Green), a beautiful, enigmatic, and haunted woman, disappears - just as Kat is discovering and relishing her newfound sexuality. Having lived for so long in a stifled, emotionally repressed household, she barely registers her mother's absence and certainly doesn't blame her doormat of a father, Brock, (Christopher Meloni) for the loss. In fact, it's almost a relief. But as time passes, Kat begins to come to grips with how deeply Eve's disappearance has affected her. Returning home on a break from college, she finds herself confronted with the truth about her mother's departure, and her own denial about the events surrounding it...

Magnolia Pictures presents WHITE BIRD IN A BLIZZARD available on demand and on iTunes September 25th and in theaters October 24, 2014.  The WHITE BIRD IN A BLIZZARD – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack will be available digitally September 16, 2014.

Back Lot Music: The Boxtrolls [2014] - Dario Marianelli

Back Lot Music will release The Boxtrolls – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and on CD September 23, 2014. The album features an original score for the Focus Features and LAIKA family event movie by Academy Award®-winning composer Dario Marianelli (Atonement) and an original song by Eric Idle (of Monty Python fame), plus classic songs performed by the group Loch Lomond.

The Boxtrolls is the first animated feature that Oscar® winner Dario Marianelli has scored, and he began his work notably early in the production process.

“That was a huge benefit for us,” said The Boxtrolls co-director Graham Annable. “Dario started work when most of the movie was still in the storyboard phase, and he was able to ask for a few more seconds here and there to let his score breathe – and truly support key moments in the movie. Later, he would also adapt the waltz that he wrote to fit finished shots.”

Focus Features will release The Boxtrolls, the new movie from animation studio LAIKA, the creators of the Academy Award®-nominated Coraline and ParaNorman, in theaters nationwide on September 26, 2014. The Boxtrolls – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack will be available digitally and on CD September 23, 2014. A vinyl version of the soundtrack will be released at the end of 2014.

Varèse Sarabande: WHIPLASH [2014]

Varèse Sarabande Records will release WHIPLASH – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and on CD, October 7, 2014. The soundtrack features original score and big band songs by Justin Hurwitz (GUY AND MADELINE ON A PARK BENCH) and original big band competition pieces by Tim Simonec (DUNE).
“The director Damien [Chazelle] and I started talking about this score a year before the cameras rolled,” said Hurwitz.  “While the original jazz would be somewhat straightforward, the movie's dramatic underscore was more of a conundrum.  How do you score a movie that already has so much music in it?” To navigate these waters, Hurwitz would use the techniques of electronic scoring, but with all real instruments, in a way that would haunt him much in the same way that WHIPLASH’s lead character was haunted….

Capitol Records: THE SONG [2014]

COMPOSER AND MUSIC PRODUCER VINCENT EMMETT TACKLES THE SONG
Soundtrack Album Features 10 Original Songs
With New Version of the Classic Track “Turn! Turn! Turn!”  Performed by Ricky Skaggs, Emmylou Harris, and Roger McGuinn

Composer, Songwriter and Music Producer Vincent Emmett is proud to announce the release of THE SONG soundtrack by Capitol Records on September 16, 2014.

The original album includes original songs penned and produced by Emmett, featuring “The Song-Awaken Love”, performed by the film’s Alan Powell (of Anthem Lights), “Prayer in Open D”, performed by Emmylou Harris and a new version of The Byrds classic “Turn! Turn! Turn!” performed by Ricky Skaggs, Emmylou Harris and Roger McGuinn.  In addition to co-writing several of the songs, Emmett wrote the original score for the film.

"I wanted to bring in the best of the best, but more than anything I wanted this music to be authentic and believable,” said Emmett. “I took every chance I could to bring in award-winning roots songwriters who could capture the story of THE SONG and translate it into passionate lyrics and memorable melodies.”

Vince Emmett's musical career arcs from the bluegrass of his Kentucky home to the mountain ranges of Ethiopia.  His eclectic music education began at the age of 10 when he performed weekly on a televised country music show alongside Allison Krauss.  From his study of the classics at the University of Illinois, he acquired an appreciation for the discipline of all the old masters. When the road beckoned, Vince toured playing gospel music. This led him to a small Kentucky recording studio where he honed his craft under the mentorship of bluegrass legends including JD Crowe, Doyle Lawson, Ricky Skaggs and Tony Rice, which quickly led him to a major label recording contract with Elektra Entertainment, and a publishing contract as a writer with EMI Music Publishing.

Emmett later met Kris Kristofferson and was humbled to be asked to score what would be his first feature film, PHAROAH’S ARMY, which also starred Chris Cooper and Patricia Clarkson. Vince composes and produces the scores of episodic and feature length films with his company, Picture Sonics, in his private Nashville studio. His film and TV credits include NOT A FAN, AHA, and the upcoming series GOD FOR THE REST OF US.

THE SONG follows aspiring singer-songwriter Jed King (Alan Powell of Anthem Lights) as he struggles to catch a break and escape the long shadow of his father, a country music legend. After reluctantly accepting a gig at a local vineyard harvest festival, Jed is love-struck by the vineyard owner’s daughter, Rose (Ali Faulkner, TWILIGHT: BREAKING DAWN), and a romance quickly blooms. Soon after their wedding, Jed writes Rose “The Song,” which becomes a breakout hit. Thrust into a life of stardom and a world of temptation in the form of fellow performer Shelby Bale (Caitlin Nicol-Thomas, NASHVILLE), Jed’s life and marriage begin to fall apart, proving even the wisest of men is a fool for love.

Samuel Goldwyn Films and City On a Hill Studio present THE SONG in theaters on September 26, 2014.  THE SONG Original Soundtrack will be available September 16, 2014.

Lakeshore Records: William H. Macy’s Soundtrack to "RUDDERLESS"

Lakeshore Records will release the RUDDERLESS – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on September 30th and on CD October 28, 2014.  The album features songs performed by the film’s Billy Crudup, Selena Gomez, and the ‘band’ Rudderless (featuring Billy Crudup, Anton Yelchin, and Ben Kweller).  Original score is by Eef Barzelay (the band Clem Snide).

In William H. Macy’s moving directorial debut RUDDERLESS, Billy Crudup plays Sam, a former high-profile advertising executive whose life is torn apart by the sudden death of his son. Living off the grid on a docked sailboat, he wastes away his days while drowning his pain in alcohol. When Sam discovers a box filled with his son's demo tapes and lyrics, his own child’s musical talent is a revelation for him, a grieving father yearning to reconnect with his son. He begins to explore his son’s unknown talent, obsessively learning his songs, until one day he decides to play one of them at a local bar. The song captivates Quentin, a young musician (Anton Yelchin) in the audience, and the two unlikely friends decide to form a rock 'n' roll band called Rudderless that becomes surprisingly popular and revitalizes both of their lives.

Paramount Home Media Distribution and Samuel Goldwyn Films present RUDDERLESS available in theaters, on Digital HD and On Demand on October 17, 2014.  The RUDDERLESS – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack will be available digitally September 30th and on CD October 28, 2014.

Underrated Treasures Blogfest: The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.!

The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr., often referred to as just Brisco or Brisco County, is an American Western/science fiction television series created by Jeffrey Boam and Carlton Cuse. It ran for 27 episodes on the Fox network starting in the 1993–94 season. Set in the American West of 1893, the series follows its title character, a Harvard-educated lawyer-turned-bounty hunter hired by a group of wealthy industrialists to track and capture outlaw John Bly and his gang. Bruce Campbell plays Brisco, who is joined by a colorful group of supporting characters, including Julius Carry as fellow bounty hunter Lord Bowler and Christian Clemenson as stick-in-the-mud lawyer Socrates Poole.

It's set in a fictional American Old West of 1893. Robber barons control the financial and industrial interests of the West from the boardrooms of San Francisco's Westerfield Club. The famous U.S. Marshal Brisco County, Sr. (R. Lee Ermey) has apprehended a gang of outlaws and its leader, the notorious John Bly. While transporting them to stand trial, County is murdered and the gang escapes. Elsewhere in a mine, a group of shackled Chinese workers unearths the Orb, a large golden globe studded with rods. After pulling the rods out of the Orb, they receive superhuman strength and use it to set themselves free. The murder of Brisco County, Sr., and the discovery of the Orb set into motion the major plots of the series.

Interview with Composer... Craig Safan

First and foremost, it's an honor to talk with legend and composer for some of my favorites scores and music of all time... please welcome "Craig Safan"! Craig Safan has recently won the "Basil Poledouris Award For A Film Music Legend" and he stops over to chat with us and once again THANK YOU!
Jeremy [Howlin' Wolf]

Howlin' Wolf: First thank you for you time and congratulations on your recent win "the Basil Poledouris Award For A Film Music Legend", how does that make you feel and did you know Basil Poledouris?

Craig Safan: Receiving the Poledouris Award is a great honor… although I’m not sure I’m ready to be a legend!  I did know Basil… we came up as young film composers at the same time and our paths crossed often.

Howlin' Wolf: Coming up on the 30th year for the great film and score for "The Last Starfighter", out of all your work this might the one people most remember... now you have had a great body of work in your career. So what do you like the most from your library of scores/soundtrack, do you think we might get a compilation that spans your work?

Craig Safan: I put together a compilation of some of my favorites a while back with the help of Doug Fake from Intrada Records.  It was entitled “Craig Safan Film Music”.  My favorite scores still include “Stand and Deliver”, “Son of the Morning Star”, “Remo Williams”, “Mr. Wrong”, “Major Payne”, and of course “Starfighter”.  I also like “The Legend of Billie Jean”, “Burden of Proof”, and “Mission of the Shark”.  Also, right now, I’m enjoying listening to “Warning Sign”.

Howlin' Wolf: Who do you listen to from composers, to group/bands or artists...why?

Craig Safan: I listen to almost every type of music except country-western.  I love the old bands from the 1920’s and 1930’s, Local Natives, and Flaco Jimenez.  I’ve also been listening to Vaughn Williams and Arvo Part.

Howlin' Wolf: From vinyl to mp3's where do you see music heading and do think it's easier for composers/artist to have more control of their musical creation? This kind of going to back to the compilation of your work, maybe being available on your personal website.

Craig Safan: I think composers/artists who are releasing their own music have way more control of their musical creations.  However for composers working in film music, I believe they have less control than ever.  This is because so much can be done by editors and directors with programs like Pro Tools.  This extensive use of “temp tracks” usurps the traditional input of the film composer.

I’m just beginning to totally redesign my website and, yes, I will post a compilation of my favorites.

------------------------------------------------------
BIO: Craig Safan has composed the music for over thirty feature films including MR. WRONG, STAND AND DELIVER, MAJOR PAYNE, NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET IV, REMO WILLIAMS, and THE LAST STARFIGHTER. For the small screen, Craig is best known for his work as the composer for the series CHEERS for which he was awarded eight ASCAP Top TV awards, as well as for his music for LIFE GOES ON, which earned Safan an EMMY® nomination.

Craig is a graduate of Brandeis University and was the recipient of both the Senior Prize in Drama and the Senior Prize in Music. He was also the recipient of the Thomas J. Watson Fellowship, which allowed him to independently pursue his music in London after graduation. Craig has given seminars or spoken at The American Film Institute, USC Film School, ASCAP Film Music Workshop, Berklee College of Music, and UC Santa Barbara.

Safan is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, where he sits on the Music Executive Committee of the Academy. For many years he was part of the President's Art Council at Brandeis University. Craig also serves on the Selection Committee for the Thomas J. Watson Foundation Fellowship in New York City. Craig and his wife, Linda Safan, are actively involved in Disability Rights issues and were recently awarded a Certificate of Commendation by mayor Anthony Vallaraigosa of Los Angeles as well as by County Supervisor Mark Ridley Thomas for their work in founding the Circle Of Friends, a nonprofit organization that pairs disabled and non-disabled students throughout California and other states.

Screamworks Records: Dead Within [2014] - Joshua Bradford and Clayton Worbeck

Screamworks Records presents the chilling ambient horror soundtrack to the Canadian survival horror Dead Within, composed by Joshua Bradford and Clayton Worbeck (Stayte, Revolting Cocks, Ministry). Directed by Ben Wagner, the film is set six months after a devastating outbreak that has all but ended the human race. A man named Mike (Dean Chekvala, True Blood) and a woman named Kin (Amy Cale Peterson, Southbounders) have survived for such a long time only by isolating themselves in a remote cabin and never opening the door. Now that they are finally starved for resources, they have no choice but to confront the horrors awaiting inside and outside.

The soundtrack for Dead Within is courtesy of Joshua Bradford and Clayton Worbeck, two veteran heavyweights of the Canadian industrial music scene. Bradford and Worbeck first played together in the industrial rock band Stayte, then later joined Revolting Cocks as a singer and keyboardist respectively. Worbeck also frequently worked together with Ministry, his remix of the band's "Death and Destruction" was featured on the Saw V Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. Their collaboration on Dead Within marks the duo’s first, but hopefully not last venture into feature film scoring.

"It was a pleasure to work on this score because of the clear intent to blur the lines between the score and the sound design" explains co-composer Clayton Worbeck. "This approach gave us the freedom to create some incredibly dark, tense compositions that creep and claw into each other as the two characters make their way through hell on Earth. Embedded in all this darkness and insanity is a strong bond of love and trust slowly eroding away. This decay of faith influenced much of my work on the score."

The soundtrack has a digital release date of  September 9, 2014.

The 1971 Columbia thriller See No Evil pits a blind woman against a savage killer. The film is spotted very sparingly, allowing many tense scenes to play out unscored. Even within composer Elmer Bernstein’s cues the music is often made more powerful by being silent. Chamber music textures abound throughout the orchestration. Bernstein’s use of strings, alto flute, piano, electric guitar, forceful trombone octaves, bass clarinet, glittering glockenspiel, brittle xylophone, clarinet doubled two octaves higher by piccolo are colors carefully calculated to make the most impact but often with the least “noise.” Everything in this
concise-but-superb score has its point.

For this premiere release of Elmer Bernstein’s complete soundtrack (the third and final score commissioned for the film), Intrada fortunately was able to locate the two-track stereo session masters, recorded and mixed by Richard Lewzey at Cine-Tele Sound Studios (CTS) in London in July 1971. For decades these tapes appeared to have been lost but, in fact, they survived in full stereo and in beautiful condition, with every cue present—including Bernstein’s three brief original source music cues.

In the film, Sarah (Mia Farrow), a young woman recently blinded in a horse-riding accident, is adjusting to her new circumstances under the loving care of her aunt, uncle and cousin. One morning she wakes and, thinking everyone else is still asleep, goes to the kitchen to make coffee. She has no idea that her cousin lies dead in the next bed, that her uncle’s bloody corpse lies in the bathtub and that her aunt’s dead eyes are staring at her from the living room. Nor does she realize that the murderer’s safety will soon hinge on one more death: hers.

Intrada: SWITCHBACK (REISSUE) - Basil Poledouris

Back by popular demand, Intrada presents a straight reissue of the first Special Collection release from 2000.  Composer Basil Poledouris chose to anchor his score around a brief 3-note motif, heard at the very beginning of the score on solo flute.  Extremely flexible, this motif worked alone, sometimes expanded into longer ideas, blended with more abstract material and played as a muscular line for the action music. No matter what direction the music takes, the motif is close at hand, opening the score, following characters in and out, boarding the “218” and finishing it all. As the emotional centerpiece to his music, Poledouris chose the Rockies, letting the motif act as a signature for the snowcovered peaks.

For outdoor settings Poledouris used a full symphony orchestra and a rich harmonic palette. For suspenseful segments he utilized electronic timbres and more abstract sounds. The violent scenes received some of the composer’s fiercest orchestral writing. But it was the speeding “218” that inspired a scoring highlight: energetic rhythms for low brass and percussion under fortissimo quotes of the primary motif.    His work for the Conan series, Red Dawn, and Under Siege 2 are forerunners to this large, exciting orchestral work recorded with the Seattle Symphony.

Switchback tells the story of obsessed FBI Special Agent Frank LaCrosse who's been playing cat and mouse for what seems an eternity, tracking a serial killer. His cross-country search takes a startling turn when this same killer kidnaps his son. The resulting conflict of interest pulls him from the case, but LaCrosse becomes more determined than ever to locate his quarry.

Intrada: THEMES FROM THE GENERAL ELECTRIC THEATER - Elmer Bernstein

THEMES FROM THE GENERAL ELECTRIC THEATER
Composed and Conducted by ELMER BERNSTEIN
INTRADA Special Collection Vol. 292
The General Electric Theater presented adaptations of popular plays, short stories, novels and films in a half-hour anthology series starring top Hollywood and Broadway talent. The format accommodated live telecasts originating from both coasts and telefilms, with Ronald Reagan hosting the show from its third season to its last and provided a voice for General Electricâ?'s public relations campaign.

Starting in 1958, the show made the switch from library music to original scores, with composer Elmer Bernstein spearheading the changeover. Each week Bernstein came up with an entirely new score (save for the main theme), usually using an orchestra of 25 players.  To Bernstein, the challenge and fun came from the different kinds of stories and the musical challenges each presented.

General Electric Theater left behind a dramatic legacy of 200 half-hour programs representing some of the best that Golden Age television had to offer. Fortunately for music lovers, Columbia Records in a rare move for 1959 issued this album of score highlights recorded by Bernstein with an orchestra of 45-50 players (nearly double the size used on the series itself), never before available on CD and presented from the original master tapes preserved in the Sony vaults.
