Invada Records and Lakeshore Records: "La Panthère Des Neiges" music by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis

Invada Records and Lakeshore Records are set to release the original score by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis to the forthcoming film La Panthère Des Neiges (AKA The Velvet Queen), digitally December 17. The soundtrack is one of Ellis and Cave’s most heartfelt and haunting film projects.  A second track, “Les Cerfs”, the follow up to “We Are Not Alone,” is now available.

High up on the Tibetan plateau. Amongst unexplored and inaccessible valleys lies one of the last sanctuaries of the wild world, where rare and undiscovered fauna lives. Vincent Munier, one of the world’s most renowned wildlife photographers takes the adventurer and novelist Sylvain Tesson (In the Forest of Siberia) with him on his latest mission. For several weeks, they’ll explore these valleys searching for unique animals and try to spot the snow leopard, one of the rarest and most difficult big cats to approach.  The film by Marie Amiguet and Vincent Munier will be released in the U.S. on December 22.

Ellis says in the press notes to the film: “There is something about the heart of this film that draws you in. I realized after a day, that I wanted to do whatever it took to compose an entire original score. The film deserved to have its own musical voice.  I booked five days and asked Nick if he could come in for a day to write a theme song and play some piano.  He saw the film and stayed for four days.

In the end we made what I think is one of the most beautiful films we have ever worked on. One of my favorite experiences ever working on a project. The stars are the animals in all their wild glory, as we have never seen them before, and man in reverence and wonder.”

Sony Masterworks: "SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME" music by Michael Giacchino

Sony Music Masterworks today releases SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK), an album of score music written by composer MICHAEL GIACCHINO for the latest installment in the Spider-Man franchise. Available everywhere now, the album returns the Oscar®, GRAMMY® and Emmy® Award-winning composer to the franchise, following his previous work on 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming and 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home. For the soundtrack, Giacchino continues to build on the sonic landscape he established with the first two films while encompassing new themes, resulting in an expansive score befitting the film’s Multiverse setting. Based on the MARVEL comic book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: No Way Home is now playing exclusively in movie theaters.

Of the soundtrack, composer MICHAEL GIACCHINO says, “It really has been special to take this three movie ride with Peter Parker and our talented director, Jon Watts. Over the course of the films, Peter grows from a typical teenager with everyday angst and awkwardness that so many of us had at that age, to a more confident young adult who understands his great responsibility. The added bonus of being able to travel and play with the multiverse brought me back several years reminding us all why we all love this character in the first place. It was an honor to add to the legacy of your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.”

For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero's identity is revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk. When he enlists Doctor Strange’s help to restore his secret, the spell tears a hole in their world, releasing the most powerful villains who’ve ever fought a Spider-Man in any universe. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse.

The film is directed by Jon Watts, written by Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers, based on the MARVEL Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal are producers and Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, JoAnn Perritano, Rachel O’Connor, Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are executive producers. The film stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jacob Batalon, Jon Favreau with Marisa Tomei.

Composer Michael Giacchino has credits that feature some of the most popular and acclaimed film projects in recent history, including The Incredibles, Coco, Jojo Rabbit, Ratatouille, Star Trek, Jurassic World, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Spider Man: Homecoming and War for the Planet of the Apes. Giacchino’s 2009 score for the Pixar hit Up earned him an Oscar®, a Golden Globe®, the BAFTA, the Broadcast Film Critics' Choice Award and two GRAMMY® Awards.

Giacchino studied film-making at the School of Visual Arts in NYC. After college, he landed a marketing job at Disney and began studies in music composition, first at Juilliard, and then at UCLA. He moved from marketing to producing in the newly formed Disney Interactive Division where he had the opportunity to write music for video games.

After moving to DreamWorks Interactive, he was asked to score the temp track for the video game adaptation of The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Subsequently, Steven Spielberg hired him as the composer and it became the first PlayStation game to have a live orchestral score, recorded with members of the Seattle Symphony. Giacchino went on to score numerous video games including Spielberg’s Medal of Honor series.

Giacchino’s work in video games sparked the interest of J.J. Abrams, and thus began their long-standing relationship that would lead to scores for the hit television series! Alias and Lost, and the feature films Mission Impossible III, Star Trek, Super 8 and Star Trek Into Darkness.

Additional projects include collaborations with Disney Imagineering on music for Space Mountain, Star Tours (with John Williams), the Ratatouille ride in Disneyland Paris, and the Incredicoaster on Pixar Pier at California Adventure. Giacchino was the musical director of the 81st Annual Academy Awards®. His music can be heard in concert halls internationally with all three Star Trek films, Ratatouille, Jurassic World, Up and Coco being performed live-to-picture with a full orchestra. In June 2018, Giacchino premiered his first work for symphony orchestra, Voyage. Commissioned by the National Symphony Orchestra and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, the piece celebrates the 60th anniversary of the founding of NASA. In July 2019, a third movement, Advent, was added for the 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing.

In 2019, Giacchino’s first LP of original music, Travelogue Vol 1, featuring his Nouvelle Modernica orchestra, described as a story in song, was released on Mondo Records. The holiday song Christmas Number One, written with Elyssa Samsel and Kate Anderson was recorded and performed by UK based band Itchy Teeth, and released as a specialty single with Death Waltz Records.

Narrated by Emmy Award winner Jeff Daniels (“The Looming Tower,” “The Comey Rule”), “9/11: Inside the President's War Room” recounts the 12 hours after the strike on that momentous day, offering rare and unique insight into the dilemmas of decision-making against the clock, as those involved provide intimate, revealing and heartfelt details for the first time.

Segun Akinola is a composer for film and television who has strengthened many projects with his musical acumen. He is most known for his music in the latest series of Doctor Who, starring the first female Doctor, Jodie Whittaker. He also scored the critically acclaimed Doctor Who VR experience, Doctor Who: The Runaway.

Segun scored Sundance 2019 favourite The Last Tree, which was also recorded at Abbey Road Studios. This is Segun’s second feature film collaboration with director Shola Amoo after A Moving Image, and it earned him a Discovery of the Year award nomination at the World Soundtrack Awards.

A BAFTA Breakthrough Brit 2017, Segun’s other work includes scoring BBC Two’s landmark four-part series Black and British: A Forgotten History, written and presented by Historian David Olusoga OBE. Milan Records: "THE WHEEL OF TIME: SEASON 1, VOL. 3" music by LORNE BALFE

Milan Records today releases THE WHEEL OF TIME: SEASON 1, VOL. 3 (AMAZON ORIGINAL SERIES SOUNDTRACK), an album of music composed by LORNE BALFE for the hit world-building fantasy series. Available everywhere now, the album features original vocal and score music written by Balfe for the remaining episodes in the show’s first season, which debut each Friday on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. Today’s release marks the third and final volume of music from the first season, following the release of The First Turn themes album and Volume 1 and Volume 2 soundtracks.

The series’ vast musical universe was initially introduced with the release of The Wheel of Time: The First Turn (Amazon Original Series Soundtrack), a conceptual album of key themes written by Balfe for the characters, settings and ideas central to the show. Available everywhere now, the 14-track collection provides a foundation for the fantasy series’ rich soundscape, with many of Balfe’s final score cues developing as variations of these initial themes. In addition to the album’s digital release, The First Turn soundtrack is also set to arrive in spatial audio, giving listeners a completely immersive listening experience with enhanced clarity, as well as in vinyl format, sometime in 2022.

As introduced with The First Turn album, The Wheel of Time soundscape includes a number of vocal contributions performed in Old Tongue, a language specific to the series. Balfe has enlisted a group of talented vocalists to perform on the soundtracks, including singer-songwriter and frontman of chart-topping Britpop group Go West Peter Cox, pop/folk singer-songwriter Abby Lyons, folk-Americana quartet Our Native Daughters and more.

The Wheel of Time is one of the most popular and enduring fantasy series of all time, with more than 90 million books sold. Set in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists and only certain women are allowed to access it, the story follows Moiraine (Rosamund Pike), a member of the incredibly powerful all-female organization called the Aes Sedai, as she arrives in the small town of Two Rivers. There, she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women, one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity.

Based on Robert Jordan’s best-selling fantasy novels, The Wheel of Time was adapted for television by executive producer/show-runner Rafe Judkins. Larry Mondragon and Rick Selvage of iwot productions, Mike Weber and Ted Field of Radar Pictures, Darren Lemke, Marigo Kehoe, and Uta Briesewitz will also serve as executive producers, with Briesewitz set to direct the first two episodes. Rosamund Pike will serve as producer, with Harriet McDougal and Brandon Sanderson as consulting producers. The Wheel of Time is co-produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television.

GRAMMY®-winning, and EMMY® & BAFTA®-nominated composer Lorne Balfe has created music in virtually all genres and for all visual media with projects ranging from major studio to independent films, tent pole video game franchises, beloved animated feature films, critically acclaimed television series, and documentary features.

Originally from Inverness, Scotland, Lorne’s love of music and writing music was evident from an early age. His childhood home had a residential recording studio where the likes of Ozzy Osbourne and Inner Circle would record – the latter of which he serendipitously worked with for his score to Bad Boys for Life.

As early as eight years-old, Lorne began writing and selling his composed “jingles” for advertisements, and at the age of thirteen he auditioned to be a percussionist with the Edinburgh Symphony Orchestra, becoming their youngest member, and traveled around Scotland with them professionally. It became clear to Lorne that he wanted to become a film composer and in his late teens he started writing letters to other composers in the hope of an opportunity. It was then he decided to move to the U.S., and soon his exceptional career took off.

Consistently receiving accolades for his musical compositions, he received critical acclaim for his score in the most successful film of the Mission Impossible franchise, Writer/Director Christopher McQuarrie’s Mission Impossible: Fallout (Paramount Pictures) and has been announced as the composer of Mission: Impossible 7 & 8.

Other notable credits include Black Widow (Disney/Marvel), Jungleland (Paramount), The Lego Batman Movie (Warner Bros), and the Oscar®-nominated film The Florida Project (A24).

In addition to his work with Christopher McQuarrie, Lorne has worked with many of the most prestigious directors in the industry including Christopher Nolan, Ron Howard, Michael Bay, Cate Shortland, Ang Lee, Christophe Waltz, Jerry Bruckheimer, Sean Baker, and Chris McKay.

Milan Records: "YOUNG ROYALS" music by Matti Bye

Prince Wilhelm adjusts to life at his prestigious new boarding school, Hillerska, but following his heart proves more challenging than anticipated.

Matti Bye became infatuated with the piano at an early age. His foray into music started with the violin, the clarinet and the contrabass. However, none of these instruments matched his melancholic and romantic musical temperament. It wasn’t until he began to study the piano with an old Russian teacher that he found his true means of expression. Amazed by the sonic richness of the piano, it became his musical weapon of choice. Matti sense of structure and harmonics was derived from playing and listening to Schubert, Chopin and Beethoven. Experimental styles like musique concrète helped expand his view of music and made him understand that the piano creates an environment of its own. Today, he is an avid researcher of musical genres like exotica, library music and forgotten soundtracks. The purpose is not to replicate a sound but to find jumping-off points for new compositions and expressions, recently manifested on the debut album by Mambo Noir Trio. For years Matti performed live to screenings of silent masterpieces by directors like Fritz Lang, Victor Sjöström and Jean Vigo at the Cinematheque in Stockholm. The importance of this period for his musical education can probably not be overstated. His time at the Cinematheque enabled him to hone his ear and intuition, helping him to learn to trust his spontaneity in the process. Matti’s piano playing has catapulted him onto the international stage for contemporary piano music and won him numerous accolades.   Solo works like ”Drömt” from 2010 and 2013’s ”Bethanien” - the result of a two-year sojourn in Kreuzberg’s cultural centre in Berlin - have earned him fans all over the world. He composed new music for Victor Sjöström’s silent horror masterpiece ”The Phantom Carriage” (1921) and ”The Saga of Gosta Berling” (1924), both released as standalone works on Rotor Records. In addition to his solo works, Matti is one of Sweden’s most sought-after film composers. His scores to Felix Herngren’s "Hundraåringen som klev ut genom fönstret och försvann” (2016), and Fredrik Edfelt’s ”Faro” (2013) won him composer awards at Sweden’s prestigious film awards ceremony Guldbaggen.

Sony Music Masterworks: "A JOURNAL FOR JORDAN" music by MARCELO ZARVOS

Sony Music Masterworks today releases A JOURNAL FOR JORDAN (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) by acclaimed composer MARCELO ZARVOS. Available everywhere now, the album features score music written by Zarvos for the romantic drama directed by Denzel Washington and with a screenplay by Virgil Williams. The soundtrack marks Zarvos’ second collaboration with Washington as a director, the duo having worked together previously on 2016’s acclaimed film Fences. Based on the book by Dana Canady of the same name, A Journal for Jordan debuts exclusively in movie theaters December 25 from Sony Pictures.

Of the soundtrack, composer MARCELO ZARVOS says, “A Journal for Jordan is a story about love, sacrifice and family that spans 20 years and is the most emotional and challenging score I’ve ever done. The music ranges from intimate to soaring, devastating and even humorous at times but always through the lenses of love in all its forms. Working with Denzel Washington again, having previously done Fences together, was amazing. He really knows how to empower a composer while also giving very clear directions. It felt like a really safe space to try out ideas, and I really couldn’t ask more from any collaborator.”

Directed by Denzel Washington and starring Michael B. Jordan with a screenplay by Virgil Williams, A Journal for Jordan is based on the true story of First Sergeant Charles Monroe King (Jordan), a soldier deployed to Iraq who begins to keep a journal of love and advice for his infant son. Back at home, senior New York Times editor Dana Canedy (Chanté Adams) revisits the story of her unlikely, life-altering relationship with King and his enduring devotion to her and their child. A sweeping account of a once-in-a-lifetime love, the film is a powerful reminder of the importance of family.

Based on the book by Dana Canedy. Produced by Todd Black, Denzel Washington, Michael B. Jordan, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch. Executive Producers are Molly Allen, David Bloomfield, Aaron L. Gilbert, Jason Cloth and Richard McConnell. The film also stars Jalon Christian.

Acclaimed composer Marcelo Zarvos has scored a diverse variety of high profile film and television projects throughout his career.  He is recognized for his trademark sound – a seamless blend of classical, orchestral, rock, electronic and various ethnic elements, that together create uniquely affecting and emotionally charged music for film, TV, modern dance and the concert stage. The Brazilian-born Zarvos began by studying classical music  and later began delving into jazz, rock and world music.

Zarvos has scored more than 50 films and has an expert skill with layered stories and emotive undertones.  He most recently scored A Journal for Jordan, directed by Denzel Washington with a screenplay by Virgil Williams, which is being released by Sony Pictures on December 25, 2021. He previously collaborated with Denzel Washington on the award-winning Fences which Washington directed and starred with Viola Davis.

Throughout his career, Zarvos has also collaborated with many other celebrated filmmakers including Nicole Holofcener (Enough Said, Please Give,  Amazon series One Mississippi, The Land of Steady Habits), Barry Levinson (The Humbling, You Don’t Know Jack, Rock The Kasbah) and Antoine Fuqua (Brooklyn’s Finest, the two-part HBO Sports documentary What’s My Name | Muhammad Ali  which premiered on HBO in May 2019, the documentary The Day Sports Stood Still which premiered on HBO in March 2021 and  The Guilty starring Jake Gyllenhaal which was released in select theatres by Netflix on September 24, 2021).

A classically trained pianist and composer, Zarvos earned his BFA from Cal Arts.  He burst onto the film landscape in the early 2000s with his score for Kissing Jessica Stein and with the film adaptation of the John Irving novel, The Door in the Floor.  Some of Zarvos’ credits include The Good Shepherd, The Words, Sin Nombre, Hollywoodland and American Ultra.

Twice nominated for Primetime Emmy® Awards (for You Don’t Know Jack and Taking Chance), Zarvos’ television work includes Too Big To Fail, The Big C, Extant the HBO movie Phil Spector, the Amazon series One Mississippi and Z:  The Beginning of Everything, the limited series The Romanoffs for Amazon and the SHOWTIME series The Affair which aired for five seasons and Ray Donovan which aired for seven seasons.

Varèse Sarabande: "The Matrix: The Complete Edition" [VINYL] music by Don Davis

The Matrix: The Complete Edition. Landing in stores on June 3 and available for pre-order today, this handsome, 3-LP collection includes all of the music from the legendary 1999 film, plus an exclusive interview with composer Don Davis, who scored the blockbuster release. The 44-track album is housed in a tri-fold jacket, with stunning new artwork and original film stills.

Also available on CD and SACD exclusively on VareseSarabande.com as well as digital platforms, The Matrix: The Complete Edition delivers Davis’ score (originally released as a 10-track album) in its entirety—from brief, eerie cues like “Follow the Rabbit” and “Through the Surveillance Monitor” to epic, sweeping themes like “Trinity Infinity,” “Nascent Nauseous Neo” and “He’s the One Alright.” Newly remastered audio, meanwhile, allows listeners to fully appreciate the scope and nuance of Davis’ remarkable work.

Long considered to be one of the most influential films of all time, The Matrix ushered in a new era of cinema when it was released in 1999. Directed by the then relatively unknown Wachowski siblings, the Academy Award-winning film depicts a futuristic dystopian society, in which humans live, unknowingly, in a simulated reality. Starring Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne and Carrie-Anne Moss, The Matrix blends philosophical principles, cyberpunk warfare and slick martial arts moves with groundbreaking special effects. Tying together the film’s dazzling visuals and mind-bending plot is Davis’ deftly composed score.

As film music journalist Kaya Savas notes in his 2020 interview with Davis, the score “was unlike anything anyone had heard in an action or science-fiction film to date. Today, that still rings true. Other than its sequels, you won’t find a style and approach to sci-fi/action scoring like The Matrix.” Davis would go on to score the next two films in The Matrix franchise: The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, both of which were released in 2003. But, of course, it was his initial compositions for The Matrix that started it all—music which AllMusic declared as “the rare score that is nearly as effective as a stand-alone work as it is in the film.”

Davis, who scored the Wachowskis’ first feature film, Bound, spoke to Savas about reading The Matrix’s script for the first time. “I could see … that it was something extraordinary,” he recalled. “Part of the reason I think The Matrix was a success is because [the Wachowskis] were able to hold onto their idea of what it needed to be. And there were things about The Matrix that couldn’t be read in the script, which I would say involved their unique visual sense.”

The Wachowskis’ distinctive vision also applied to the film’s music. “One thing the Wachowskis did want was something new and different. … I took that to heart, and it was clear that a unique approach really was right for that film.” Davis added that the siblings “generally wanted more integration between the music and the film than a lot of other directors do. … [They] wanted the music to outline the action pretty closely at times.”

Drawing inspiration from postmodern composers like Philip Glass, Steve Reich, John Adams, Aaron Kernis and David Lang, Davis quickly realized that the film’s music would need to be a stylistic departure from the grand themes that sci-fi audiences had become accustomed to. “I tried to go in that direction, but I just couldn’t make it work; it just wasn’t right for the picture,” he told Savas. “There was something about the cyberpunk thing, the William Gibson tableau, and the anime stuff that didn’t lend itself at all to a majestic ‘John Williams–esque’ theme.”

As history shows, fans embraced The Matrix—and all of its unprecedented aspects wholeheartedly. Not only would the film rank as one of the highest-grossing theatrical releases ever, but it would also earn numerous accolades, including four Academy Awards, two BAFTAs and two Saturn Awards. Considered to be one of the best science-fiction movies of all time, The Matrix was added to the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry in 2012.

While Davis is not involved in the latest installment of the franchise (2021’s The Matrix Resurrections), he is deeply proud of his work on the film that started it all. “It’s amazing to have been involved in something that hits a zeitgeist like that,” Davis reflects. “It’s really a joy.”

Hollywood Records: "WELCOME TO EARTH" music by Daniel Pemberton

Disney+ original series from National Geographic, Hollywood Records announced that the Original Series Soundtrack with music by Academy Award®-nominated and Emmy Award®-winning composer Daniel Pemberton (The Trial of The Chicago 7, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) will release Friday, December 10. Known for his innovative and exciting scores, Pemberton recently won a Critics Choice Award® for Best Original Score for The Rescue and was named Film Composer of the Year in 2021 by both the World Soundtrack Awards and the international film music critics association IFMCA. Pemberton, who has composed music for some of today’s top film luminaries including Ridley Scott, Aaron Sorkin, and Danny Boyle, reteamed with Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Darren Aronofsky for Welcome to Earth, and had this to say about the project:

“In the same way that in Welcome to Earth Will Smith explored some of the most unexpected parts of our planet, I wanted the music to explore some of the most unexpected worlds of sound. The soundtrack had to feel different and unexpected so, like the series itself, you could experience the world in a way you have never seen or heard before. I tried to fuse a vast range for different sounds from all over the globe together - from pulsing electronics to sampled recordings of water, ancient flutes to unusual vocals, the sounds of wildlife with the rhythms of nature - to create a unique sonic palette as rich, visceral and absorbing as the environments Will Smith encounters. I hope that, without even leaving the house, this album can take the listener on their own adventure to some of the most amazing places on this planet. After One Strange Rock it’s been fantastic to re-team with Darren Aronofsky and the team at Nutopia to go on another adventure together with Welcome to Earth.”  - Daniel Pemberton

About Welcome to Earth: It might seem humans have mapped every inch of our planet’s surface, but look closer and you’ll discover that there is still so much more to uncover — the age of exploration is far from over! Welcome to Earth, a Disney+ original series from National Geographic, follows two-time Academy Award® nominee Will Smith on an extraordinary, once-in-a-lifetime adventure around the world to explore Earth’s greatest wonders and reveal its most hidden secrets. Throughout the six-part limited series produced by visionary Academy Award®-nominated filmmaker Darren Aronofsky, Protozoa Pictures, Jane Root’s Nutopia and Westbrook Studios, Will is guided by elite explorers on an awe-inspiring journey, getting up close and personal with some of the most thrilling spectacles on the planet — from volcanoes that roar in silence to deserts that move beyond our perception to animal swarms with minds of their own. Combining breathtaking cinematography with Will's boundless curiosity and enthusiasm, the blockbuster series is an exciting, multisensory ride through Earth’s most mind-bending portals.

Daniel Pemberton is an Academy Award-nominated and Emmy winning composer who was named Film Composer of the Year in 2021 by both the World Soundtrack Awards and the international film music critics association IFMCA. He received Golden Globe nominations for his neo-noir score to Motherless Brooklyn and his mix of opera and electronics for Danny Boyle’s Steve Jobs, as well as nods for Best Original Song for “Hear My Voice” (performed and co-written by Celeste) from Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7 and “Gold” (performed and cowritten by Iggy Pop) from the Stephen Gaghan film of the same name. MovieScore Media: "The Salvation of the World as We Know It" (Martin Todsharow)

A 17-year-old is diagnosed as bipolar and sent to a psychiatric center by his father after he tries to kill himself. He finds other youths there who have similar mental-health issues.

“Working together since over a decade we’re close together as any director and composer can be. Til Schweiger really developed his own musical world for his movies over the years. Full of well selected songs and emotional scores, mostly arranged in a song structure too, we’re going this way further and further and finding always new playgrounds to dig deep into the emotions. So as well in The Salvation of the World as We Know It. Minimalistic piano and delayed guitars are always a topic in our scores but this time we went into orchestral atmospheres also to catch the unexplained emotions of our protagonist.” – Martin Todsharow

Martin Todsharow earned his composition degree at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music. He has been working as a film composer since 1997 and since 2004, he’s been a professor at the Konrad Wolf Film University of Babelsberg. In 2013 he won the Preis der Deutschen Filmkritik Best Music Award for Sources of Life (Quellen des Lebens). More recently Todsharow entered the international film scene with movies like the psychological horror Friend Request (2016), the Norwegian disaster thriller The Tunnel (2019) and the G.I. Joe origin movie Snake Eyes (2021), starring Henry Golding and directed by Robert Schwentke. [https://moviescoremedia.com/newsite/]

Sony Classical: "NATIONAL CHAMPIONS" music by Jonathan Sanford

NATIONAL CHAMPIONS (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) by composer Jonathan Sanford. Available now for purchase and streaming, the soundtrack album features music from STXfilm’s new sports drama – now playing only in theaters, directed by Ric Roman Waugh (Greenland, Angel Has Fallen).

In speaking about the message behind the music, composer Jonathan Sanford stated, “There are so many people around the world without a voice, at least not a voice big enough to have a real say in any given matter. We set out to amplify those voices, the voices of the unheard… and made it into a score.”

Three days before the college football national championship game, star quarterback LeMarcus James (Stephan James) and teammate Emmett Sunday (Alexander Ludwig) ignite a player’s strike declaring they won’t compete until all student-athletes are fairly compensated. With billions of dollars at risk and legacies on the line, the stakes could not be higher. Now, with only hours until kickoff, the head coach (J.K. Simmons) and various power brokers (Lil Rel Howery, Tim Blake Nelson, Andrew Bachelor, Jeffrey Donovan, David Koechner, Kristin Chenoweth, Timothy Olyphant, Uzo Aduba) must race against the clock to protect or destroy the prevailing collegiate athletics system.

Jonathan Sanford is a Los Angeles-based composer, music producer, and saxophonist scoring music for films, television, and stage. He is known for bringing unique sounds and unexpected ideas through an analog exploration process.

Sanford recently completed the score for the Universal / Netflix comedy feature Good On Paper, starring Iliza Schlesinger and Margaret Cho and directed by Kimmy Gatewood, Teenage Bounty Hunters, a Netflix series from Tilted Productions (GLOW, Orange Is The New Black, Weeds), the Netflix series Social Distance, and the comedy drama feature Welcome Matt. He is also the composer for USA’s noir television drama Dare Me, based on the novel by Megan Abbott. Upcoming for Jonathan is the drama romance feature On Our Way, the NBC / Amazon TV series As We See It from executive producer Jason Katims, and the drama feature National Champions for STX Entertainment directed by Ric Waugh and starring J.K. Simmons, Stephan James, and Uzo Aduba.

Sanford’s previous work includes That Moment When for PBSNews Hour/Facebook Watch, original songs for YouTube’s Weird City, score for the EKO interactive series Timeline, and Off-Broadway stage play Tomorrow In The Battle (Stripped Scripts). Sanford has also scored documentaries for Syracuse professor Richard Breyer, tracks for Run and Jump directed by Oscar-nominated Steph Green, and short films with premieres at Tribeca and Cannes Film Festivals.

Sanford was born in Baltimore, Maryland, studying piano and violin before deciding on the saxophone at age nine. Jonathan went on to study classical saxophone, under the tutelage of Dr. Frederick Hemke at Northwestern University, where he was also a member of the 1996 Big Ten Championship Football Team. As a saxophonist and vocalist, Jonathan has shared the stage with legendary artists including Max Roach, Eddie Palmieri, Danilo Perez, and Bobby McFerrin.

Milan Records: "BACK TO THE OUTBACK" music by Rupert Gregson-Williams

Milan Records announces the release of BACK TO THE OUTBACK (SOUNDTRACK FROM THE NETFLIX FILM), an album of music from Netflix’s latest animated adventure in the Australian Outback. Available everywhere now, the album features score music by composer Rupert Gregson-Williams as well as original vocal tracks from Australian singer-songwriters Alex the Astronaut, G Flip and Evie Irie. Rounding out the 26-track collection are two original songs written by musician, comedian, actor, and writer Tim Minchin, who also voices the character of Pretty Boy in the film. Evie Irie once again lends her vocals in a duet with Minchin for “Beautiful Ugly,” while “Maddie’s Lullaby” is performed by Indigenous Australian singer-songwriter Thelma Plum. The resulting soundtrack is a showcase of Australian musicianship and the perfect companion to the film, which debuts on Netflix today, Friday, December 10.

Tired of being locked in a reptile house where humans gawk at them like they’re monsters, a ragtag group of Australia’s deadliest creatures plot a daring escape from their zoo to the Outback, a place where they’ll fit in without being judged for their scales and fangs. Leading the group is Maddie (Isla Fisher), a poisonous snake with a heart of gold, who bands together with a self-assured Thorny Devil lizard Zoe (Miranda Tapsell), a lovelorn hairy spider Frank (Guy Pearce), and a sensitive scorpion Nigel (Angus Imrie). But when their nemesis — Pretty Boy (Tim Minchin), a cute but obnoxious koala — unexpectedly joins their escape, Maddie and the gang have no choice but to take him with them. So begins a hair-raising and hilarious road trip across Australia, as they are pursued by a zookeeper Chaz (Eric Bana) and his adventure-seeking mini-me (Diesel Cash La Torraca). Directed by Clare Knight and Harry Cripps, and also featuring the voices of Rachel House, Keith Urban, Celeste Barber, Wayne Knight, Lachlan Ross Power, and Jacki Weaver, Back to the Outback is an animated adventure that proves just because something’s different, doesn’t mean it isn’t beautiful.

Rupert Gregson-Williams was born in England and educated at St. John’s College Choir School, Cambridge. The multi-award-winning composer works from his studios in both London and Los Angeles.

Gregson-Williams has scored in all genres of film and television – Credits include animations Over The Hedge, Bee Movie and Abominable; blockbusters Wonder Woman and Aquaman, the Oscar®-nominated Hotel Rwanda and Hacksaw Ridge, comedies with Adam Sandler, Kevin Hart and Kevin James, and award-winning television including The Crown and Veep are among dozens of other movie and television credits. Lakeshore Records: "SWAN SONG" music by JAY WADLEY

Lakeshore Records is set to release Swan Song—Soundtrack from the Apple Original Film featuring music by Jay Wadley (I’m Thinking of Ending Things), digitally December 17. The transcendent score evokes deeply felt emotions while maintaining a striking sense of space and minimalism.  Nine out of the 25 tracks will be available as an instant grat with every preorder beginning December 10. The Apple Original Film will premiere in theaters and globally on Apple TV+ on December 17.  Deadline premiered two instant grat tracks, “Main Theme” and “Jack Goes Home”:

Set in the near future, "Swan Song" is a powerful, emotional journey told through the eyes of Cameron (Mahershala Ali), a loving husband and father diagnosed with a terminal illness who is presented with an alternative solution by his doctor (Glenn Close) to shield his family from grief. As Cam grapples with whether or not to alter his family's fate, he learns more about life and love than he ever imagined. "Swan Song" explores how far we will go, and how much we're willing to sacrifice, to make a happier life for the people we love.

The emotionally compelling and thought-provoking film is helmed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Benjamin Cleary ("Stutterer"), from an original screenplay written by Cleary and produced by Anonymous Content and Concordia Studio. Producers are Adam Shulman ("Defending Jacob") and Jacob Perlin ("The Amazing Johnathan Documentary") on behalf of Anonymous Content; Jonathan King ("Stillwater," "Dark Waters") on behalf of Concordia Studio; Rebecca Bourke ("Wave"); Mahershala Ali and Mimi Valdés ("Hidden Figures") through Know Wonder.

Says Wadley: “My inspiration for the score for Swan Song was drawn from connecting with Cam’s profound love for his family and tapping into his internal struggle, sense of loss, and urgency of his monumental dilemma. The score takes a deliberate and restrained approach to communicate giant feelings, playing off of Ben Cleary (Director) and Masanobu Takayenagi’s (Cinematographer) discussions of the Japanese minimalist concept of ‘Ma.’ There’s a sense of openness and space in the composition, production, and instrumentation of the score that allows moments to breathe while still providing the emotional undercurrent of tension, love and sense of urgency to the unfolding story.”

Jay Wadley is a NY-based composer and music producer, a two-time winner of the Charles Ives Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and has been featured in IndieWire's 2020 and 2016 “10 Best Scores of the Year.” He recently scored Charlie Kaufman’s psychological drama/thriller I’m Thinking of Ending Things for which he composed an original ballet, an original song co-written with Kaufman in the form of a hallucinatory 1950s ice-cream jingle, and produced two songs from the musical “Oklahoma!”. Other recent projects include Oscar-winning director Ben Cleary’s Swan Song (Apple/Anonymous), Heidi Ewing's 2020 Sundance NEXT award-winning narrative debut  I Carry You with Me (Sony Pictures Classics), a commissioned modern dance piece from CoLab Ensemble for a 2022 premiere at The Guggenheim, Emma Tammi’s Blood Moon (Blumhouse/Hulu), Season 2 of Amazon’s Emmy Nominated Modern Love, and additional music and percussion on M. Night Shyamalan’s OLD.

He is co-founder of Found Objects with Trevor Gureckis, composer for M. Night Shyamalan's Servant (AppleTV+) and OLD.  Found Objects is an award-winning music and audio production company providing original music production, music supervision, and sound for Film, TV, Advertising, and Interactive Media, and was named one of Inc. 5000s fastest-growing privately held companies of 2020. Their studio in DUMBO, Brooklyn, features a state of the art live room and 5.1 mix room, where they recently hosted the score mix for Lin Manuel Miranda and John Chu's film adaptation of In The Heights and the score recording/mix of Tamar-Kali’s score for Fisher Steven’s Palmer (AppleTV+).

Lakeshore Records: "SILENT NIGHT" music by LORNE BALFE

From producers Matthew Vaughn (Kingsman franchise), Trudie Styler (Moon) and Celine Rattray (The Kids Are Alright), Silent Night follows parents Nell (Knightley) and Simon (Goode) who have invited their closest friends to join their family for Christmas dinner at their idyllic home in the English countryside.  As the group comes together, it feels like old times – but behind all of the laughter and merriment, something is not quite right.  The world outside is facing impending doom, and no amount of gifts, games or Prosecco can make mankind’s imminent destruction go away.  Surviving the holidays just got a lot more complicated.

Says Balfe: “The film's subtle complexity is woven by deep, well thought out characters, played by some of Britain’s best performers, and director Camille and editorial's meticulous attention to detail. We committed to and joyfully explored these subtleties closely with production in what became one of our most collaborative scores.

Musically, we sought to think big.  We filled the silence with a full orchestra, Bulgarian and Viennese choirs, incredible soloists, and the Christmas powerhouse that is Michael Buble’, who helps sell the film's dystopian reality by bridging our worlds with easily recognizable nostalgia. We are overjoyed at how our performers engaged with the compositions to bring the score, and film, beyond our expectations.”

GRAMMY-winning, and EMMY & BAFTA-nominated composer Lorne Balfe has created music in virtually all genres and for all visual media with projects ranging from major studio to independent films, tent pole video game franchises, beloved animated feature films, critically acclaimed television series, and documentary features.

WaterTower Music: "THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS" music by Johnny Klimek and Tom Tykwer

The Matrix Resurrections, the next chapter in the groundbreaking franchise that redefined a genre. The new film reunites original stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss in the iconic roles they made famous, Neo and Trinity. The Matrix Resurrections (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) features the music of Johnny Klimek & Tom Tykwer and also includes 11 remixes by Johnny Klimek & Tom Tykwer, Marcel Dettmann, Moderna, Thomas Fehlmann, System 01, Esther Silex & Kotelett, Gudrun Gut, Almost Falling, Psychic Health, Eclectic Youth, and Alessandro Adriani.

The soundtrack is scheduled to be released on December 17, and the film will be in theaters nationwide and on HBO Max via the Ad-Free plan on December 22, 2021; it will be available on HBO Max for 31 days from theatrical release.

Neo and Trinity Theme (Johnny Klimek & Tom Tykwer Exomorph Remix) sees composers Johnny Klimek (Cloud Atlas, Deadwood, Run Lola Run)  & Tom Tykwer (Director - Cloud Atlas, Run Lola Run, Babylon Berlin),  who have worked closely together and co-composed since 1996, reunite with close friend, collaborator, and The Matrix Resurrections Director/Co-Writer/Producer Lana Wachowski. Their 2012 collaboration on Cloud Atlas garnered a Golden Globe Nomination for Klimek and Twyker’s work on the film’s music.

Tom Tykwer discussed the composers’ work on The Matrix Resurrections. “There’s a powerful and distinct musical legacy here. In my opinion, The Matrix Trilogy is one of the great scores of all time. And what’s particularly fantastic about it is that it was also, to my knowledge, one of the first film scores that so implemented electronic music and connected it with progressive late-modern orchestral music. It started a movement, which we are paying tribute to with this music. And yet, this film is playful and emotional with complex development, open in every direction. Johnny and I felt our challenge for the music was to pay tribute to The Matrix lineage and also support this cinematic endeavor of expanding that legacy to explore new direction. That needs to be represented in the music and that is what we are trying to investigate musically.”

Johnny Klimek elaborated, “We spent several months working on material for The Matrix Resurrections, building the main themes, crafting alternative arrangements and electronic variants. We had a lot of fun mixing electronics with classical orchestra. The technology has come so far since I started scoring film.”

The infusion of electronic music into the score ultimately expanded into the inclusion of 11 remixes on the album, and it was an amalgam of inspirations which brought that idea to fruition. Both composers have worked extensively with electronic music, including their work on the celebrated, techno-infused Run Lola Run soundtrack. Further, Lana Wachowski lives in Berlin and is connected to many DJs, remixers, producers and personalities deeply involved with associated with the underground electronic music scene - some of them for more than 30 years -  and the well-known Berlin nightclub Berghain. These connections and inspirations organically evolved from a remix idea into the larger inclusion of remixes on the album.

From visionary filmmaker Lana Wachowski comes The Matrix Resurrections, the long-awaited next chapter in the groundbreaking franchise that redefined a genre. The new film reunites original stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss in the iconic roles they made famous, Neo and Trinity.

In The Matrix Resurrections, return to a world of two realities: one, everyday life; the other, what lies behind it. To find out if his reality is a physical or mental construct, to truly know himself, Mr. Anderson will have to choose to follow the white rabbit once more. And if Thomas…Neo…has learned anything, it’s that choice, while an illusion, is still the only way out of—or into—the Matrix. Of course, Neo already knows what he has to do. But what he doesn’t yet know is the Matrix is stronger, more secure and more dangerous than ever before.  Déjà vu.

TOM TYKWER (born 1965 in Wuppertal) is one of the most influential and renowned contemporary German filmmakers. Since 1990, he writes, directs, produces and composes the scores for his own films and TV shows. In 1985, he moved to Berlin, began studying philosophy at the Free University Berlin and worked as a projectionist in repertory theaters. In 1988, he took over programming of the Berlin arthouse cinema Moviemento and kept his head above waters a script reader for distributors and producing portraits of a variety of film directors for German television. His application attempts at several European film schools were fruitless, so he started writing scripts for short films which he then shot on the lowest budget possible, financing out of his own pocket. Tykwers screenplay for Deadly Maria (1993) then finally collected a minimum financing to actually produce his first feature length film. In 1994 Tykwer co-founded the production company X Filme Creative Pool with producer Stefan Arndt and filmmaking partners Wolfgang Becker and Dani Levy. The company has maintained his producing home until today.

After writing the screenplay for Life Is All You Get (1996) with Wolfgang Becker, Tykwer went on to direct his own second feature, Winter Sleepers (1997). Run Lola Run followed in 1998, scoring X Filme its first great success in Germany and abroad. Despite – or perhaps even because of – its unusual narrative structure, Run Lola Run was the most profitable German film of that year, and has since conquered the hearts of film enthusiasts around the globe. Following the success of Run Lola Run, Tykwer went on to direct The Princess and the Warrior (2000) and the adaptation of a script by Krzysztof Kieslowski, Heaven (2002), which marked Tykwer’s English-language debut. Meanwhile, his company X Filme Creative Pool also embarked on several larger-scale European adventures, among them Wolfgang Becker’s Good bye, Lenin! (2003) and Michael Haneke’s The White Ribbon (2009) and Amour (2012). For his adaptation of Patrick Suskind’s Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (2006), Tykwer joined forces with producer Bernd Eichinger who had been relentlessly hunting down the rights to the book for over a decade.

In 2009 followed Tykwer’s first studio picture, The International, a conspiracy thriller which was a Columbia / Sony Pictures production.  When his comedy-drama THREE (2010) premiered at the Venice Film Festival, it marked the return of Tykwer to filming in German language and on a smaller scale budget. In 2012 Tykwer then collaborated with close friends Lana und Andy Wachowski to create Cloud Atlas, one of the biggest independently financed films ever made, with an all-star cast, among others Tom Hanks.
Tykwer won over Tom Hanks again to star in his adaptation of Dave Egger’s novel A Hologram For The King (2016).

Since 2015, Tykwer has developed the TV show Babylon Berlin, which currently stands at Season 4 and is one of the most successful TV show ever coming out of Germany. It has been sold to more than a hundred territories and was one of the first German TV shows which developed a narrative in the long form concept of an ongoing tale with dozens of chapters. With writing and directing partners Achim von Borries and Henk Handloegten, Tykwer intends to write one more season to finish the saga circling around police detective’s Gereon Rath’s investigations in Weimar Germany of the late 20s. He also directed three episodes of the Wachowski’s TV show Sense 8 (2016-2019) and, with Johnny Klimek, created the score for the 25 episodes which were produced. In 2008, Tykwer and his wife Marie Steinmann co-founded the non-profit organization One Fine Day, which fosters art education and development for young people in Kenya, East Africa. This work has led to the founding of the production company One Fine Day Films, which has been developing feature-length films in workshops since 2009. Among the projects have been Soul Boy (2010, directed by Hawa Essuman), Nairobi Half Life (2012, by David Tosh Gitonga), Something Necessary (2013, Judy Kibinge), Veve (2014, Simon Mukali), Katikati (2015, Mbithi Masya) and Supa Modo (2019, Likarion Wainaina). As a producer, Tykwer has helped realize such films as Absolute Giganten (1999, directed by Sebastian Schipper), Soundless (2004, directed by Mennan Yapo), A Friend of Mine (2006, Sebastian Schipper), and The Heart is a Dark Forest (2007, Nicolette Krebitz). As a composer, Tykwer has written music for all his films . He closely works together with his co-composer Johnny Klimek since 1996. Reinhold Heil was part of the composing team from 1996-2012.

JOHNNY KLIMEK is a fourth generation film composer, equally comfortable in the electronic studio and on the recording stage with Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic, as he was for Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. This dual-identity asserted itself again in the adaptation of Cloud Atlas (2012), on which Johnny teamed up with the Wachowski’s and his sturdiest collaborator, German auteur Tom Tykwer . His style is a genuine hybrid of the ambient soundscapes and propulsive grooves he mastered during his formative years in the Berlin underground and the classic film scoring tradition so much associated with Hollywood. Both worlds are in evidence in his career-defining work for Tykwer, beginning with the breakthrough hit, Run, Lola, Run, and continuing through Perfume, The International, and Cloud Atlas. These scores, along with much of his output over the last decade, were created in collaboration with his longtime partner, Reinhold Heil. But as of Fall 2011, Johnny, allied with WME composer agent Amos Newman, is breaking out on his own. Currently scoring, MATRIX 4 BABYLON, BERLIN Season 4, KLEO, and LEOPARD SKIN.

Born in Australia, Johnny paid his dues down-under with a series of gritty pub bands, but the genesis of his knife-edged electronics and lush, dreamy sound pictures was his baptism in the Berlin electronica under-ground. Initially migrating to Berlin to form the Eighties pop ensemble, The Other Ones with his siblings, he segued into the club music scene on his own in the Nineties, and out of the latter emerged his creative marriages to both Heil and Tykwer. The consummation of this three-way relationship was Run, Lola, Run, a game-changing exercise in both non-linear storytelling and the use of electronica as underscore. The worldwide success of the Lola score put Johnny on the map and catalyzed his move to Los Angeles and the establishment of his Echo Park studio. Since then, he has seen a steady stream of cinematically striking projects and has become something of a go-to composer for film and television involving parallel realities and slipping time frames. His hybrid style suits this zeitgeist genre well. In addition to his stylistic range, Johnny is a truly international composer at a time when cutting-edge entertainment is going increasingly global. With an Australian background and a musical pedigree earned in Europe, he brings something exciting to the expanding world of Hollywood.
