Lakeshore Records: "SWAN SONG" music by JAY WADLEY

Lakeshore Records is set to release Swan Song—Soundtrack from the Apple Original Film featuring music by Jay Wadley (I’m Thinking of Ending Things), digitally December 17. The transcendent score evokes deeply felt emotions while maintaining a striking sense of space and minimalism.  Nine out of the 25 tracks will be available as an instant grat with every preorder beginning December 10. The Apple Original Film will premiere in theaters and globally on Apple TV+ on December 17.  Deadline premiered two instant grat tracks, “Main Theme” and “Jack Goes Home”:

Set in the near future, "Swan Song" is a powerful, emotional journey told through the eyes of Cameron (Mahershala Ali), a loving husband and father diagnosed with a terminal illness who is presented with an alternative solution by his doctor (Glenn Close) to shield his family from grief. As Cam grapples with whether or not to alter his family's fate, he learns more about life and love than he ever imagined. "Swan Song" explores how far we will go, and how much we're willing to sacrifice, to make a happier life for the people we love.

The emotionally compelling and thought-provoking film is helmed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Benjamin Cleary ("Stutterer"), from an original screenplay written by Cleary and produced by Anonymous Content and Concordia Studio. Producers are Adam Shulman ("Defending Jacob") and Jacob Perlin ("The Amazing Johnathan Documentary") on behalf of Anonymous Content; Jonathan King ("Stillwater," "Dark Waters") on behalf of Concordia Studio; Rebecca Bourke ("Wave"); Mahershala Ali and Mimi Valdés ("Hidden Figures") through Know Wonder.

Says Wadley: “My inspiration for the score for Swan Song was drawn from connecting with Cam’s profound love for his family and tapping into his internal struggle, sense of loss, and urgency of his monumental dilemma. The score takes a deliberate and restrained approach to communicate giant feelings, playing off of Ben Cleary (Director) and Masanobu Takayenagi’s (Cinematographer) discussions of the Japanese minimalist concept of ‘Ma.’ There’s a sense of openness and space in the composition, production, and instrumentation of the score that allows moments to breathe while still providing the emotional undercurrent of tension, love and sense of urgency to the unfolding story.”

Jay Wadley is a NY-based composer and music producer, a two-time winner of the Charles Ives Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and has been featured in IndieWire's 2020 and 2016 “10 Best Scores of the Year.” He recently scored Charlie Kaufman’s psychological drama/thriller I’m Thinking of Ending Things for which he composed an original ballet, an original song co-written with Kaufman in the form of a hallucinatory 1950s ice-cream jingle, and produced two songs from the musical “Oklahoma!”. Other recent projects include Oscar-winning director Ben Cleary’s Swan Song (Apple/Anonymous), Heidi Ewing's 2020 Sundance NEXT award-winning narrative debut  I Carry You with Me (Sony Pictures Classics), a commissioned modern dance piece from CoLab Ensemble for a 2022 premiere at The Guggenheim, Emma Tammi’s Blood Moon (Blumhouse/Hulu), Season 2 of Amazon’s Emmy Nominated Modern Love, and additional music and percussion on M. Night Shyamalan’s OLD.

He is co-founder of Found Objects with Trevor Gureckis, composer for M. Night Shyamalan's Servant (AppleTV+) and OLD.  Found Objects is an award-winning music and audio production company providing original music production, music supervision, and sound for Film, TV, Advertising, and Interactive Media, and was named one of Inc. 5000s fastest-growing privately held companies of 2020.
