Hollywood Records: "Y: THE LAST MAN" music by Herdís Stefánsdóttir

Hollywood Records digitally releases the lead single "Requiem" by Herdís Stefánsdóttir from Y: THE LAST MAN Original Soundtrack for purchase and streaming. The single acts as the main titles for the series, and was composed as a "Requiem" for the lost men.

Speaking about the single, Icelandic composer Herdís Stefánsdóttir described, "Requiem was the first track I composed for Y: The Last Man. I recorded a cluster of female voices sometimes clashing and sometimes in harmony wanting to create a unanimous scream of despair, the primal scream." She continued, "The Requiem represents the internal feeling, the loss and serves as a remembrance of a fallen world."

A drama based on DC Comics’ acclaimed series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, Y: The Last Man traverses a post-apocalyptic world in which a cataclysmic event decimates every mammal with a Y chromosome but for one cisgender man and his pet monkey. The series follows the survivors in this new world as they struggle with their efforts to restore what was lost and the opportunity to build something better.

The ensemble cast features Diane Lane as “Jennifer Brown,” Ashley Romans as “Agent 355,” Ben Schnetzer as “Yorick Brown,” Olivia Thirlby as “Hero Brown,” Amber Tamblyn as “Kimberly Campbell Cunningham,” Marin Ireland as “Nora Brady,” Diana Bang as “Dr. Allison Mann,” Elliot Fletcher as “Sam Jordan,” Juliana Canfield as “Beth Deville” and Missi Pyle as “Roxanne.” All episodes of the season will be directed by women and the production has a significant number of female department heads, including both DPs, the production designer, costume designer, casting director, editors, stunt coordinator and more.

Developed for television by Eliza Clark, who serves as show-runner and executive producer along with Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, Mari Jo Winkler-Ioffreda, Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra. Coleman Herbert is Co-Executive Producer, with Nellie Reed and Anna Beben as Producers. Y: The Last Man is produced by FX Productions.

Y: The Last Man is a 60-issue science fiction comic book series published beginning in 2002. It received three Eisner Awards, and was nominated for the first Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story for Y: The Last Man, Volume 10.
