Milan Records today announces the latest in an ongoing partnership with GRAMMY® Award-winning saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and composer COLIN STETSON, releasing three new titles from the acclaimed artist’s catalogue of film and television scores. Available for the first time today are COLOR OUT OF SPACE (MORE MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE), THE WAR SHOW (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) and DELIVER US (ORIGINAL SERIES SOUNDTRACK). The new titles follow Milan Records’ previous releases for Stetson’s scores for 2018 horror film Hereditary, this year’s Nicolas Cage-starrer Color Out of Space and the National Geographic series Barkskins.
COLOR OUT OF SPACE (MORE MUSIC FROM THE MOTION PICTURE) follows the January release of Color Out Of Space (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) and features never-before-released score music written by Stetson for the sci-fi thriller based on the short story by H.P. Lovecraft and starring Nicolas Cage. Color Out Of Space tells the story of Nathan Gardner (Nicolas Cage) and his family, who after a meteorite lands in the front yard of their farmstead, find themselves battling a mutant extraterrestrial organism as it infects their minds and bodies, transforming their quiet rural life into a technicolor nightmare.
THE WAR SHOW (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) is an album of music written by Stetson for the 2016 documentary film, which was selected as an Official Selection of the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival. The War Show follows Syrian radio host Obaidah Zytoon and captures the fate of Syria through the intimate lens of a small circle of friends and journalists. Beginning with peaceful Arab Spring protests in 2011, The War Show offers a four-year, ground-level look at how the country spiraled into bloody civil war.
DELIVER US (ORIGINAL SERIES SOUNDTRACK) is an album of music written by Stetson for the Danish series, an edgy psychological drama created by Christian Torpe and Marie Østerbye. Deliver Us follows five people in a small Danish town who join forces and plan the perfect murder of the local town psycho who is terrorizing the community, only to realize that once you start playing God, it’s easy to end up as the Devil.
ABOUT COLIN STETSON... Colin Stetson, born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan, spent a decade in San Francisco and Brooklyn honing his formidable talents as a horn player before eventually settling in Montreal in 2007. Over the years he has worked extensively with a wide range of bands and musicians, including Tom Waits, Lou Reed, Arcade Fire, Bon Iver and The National.
Stetson has developed an utterly unique voice as a soloist, principally on saxophone and clarinet. His astounding physical engagement with his instruments (chiefly bass and alto saxophones) produces emotionally rich and polyphonic compositions that transcend expectations of what solo horn playing can sound like. He is at home in the avant-jazz tradition of pushing the boundaries through circular breathing and embouchure, and his noise/drone/minimalist sound encompasses genres like dark metal, post-rock and contemporary electronics.
More recently, Stetson has focused on scoring a number of original soundtracks, including Lavender (2016), which he co-scored with Sarah Neufeld, A24 production Hereditary (2018) and Hulu series The First (2018). He also contributed to the score for award-winning game Red Dead Redemption II (2018) and is set to score the new Adult Swim anime miniseries Uzumaki, an adaptation of Junji Ito’s renowned horror manga, which arrives in 2020.
