Lakeshore Records: "THE NIGHT HOUSE" music by Ben Lovett

Lakeshore Records is set to release The Night House—Original Motion Picture Soundtrack with music by Ben Lovett (The Ritual, The Wolf of Snow Hollow), digitally August 20.  Lovett and orchestra create a uniquely unsettling backdrop to the chilling horror film utilizing the strength of main character Rebecca Hall’s performance, the evil aspects of the house, the elemental force of the lake and the notion of negative space, as touchstones for the creation of the striking score. The Searchlight Pictures film directed by David Bruckner will be released in theaters August 20.

Reeling from the unexpected death of her husband, Beth (Rebecca Hall) is left alone in the lakeside home he built for her. She tries as best she can to keep it together – but then nightmares come. Disturbing visions of a presence in the house calling to her, beckoning her with a ghostly allure. Against the advice of her friends, she begins digging into her husband’s belongings, yearning for answers. What she finds are secrets both strange and disturbing – a mystery she’s determined to unravel.

Says Lovett: “The Night House was tricky to figure out, because it’s a story not only addressing loss but specifically Nothingness as a concept. That’s very challenging because what is the sound of nothing?? Throughout the process I was always looking for where subtraction might be more additive to the experience than simply putting more in, to reinforce the subject matter at the core of the story.”

Ben Lovett is an American composer and songwriter best known for his original scores to a diverse range of breakthrough films.

Since scoring the Independent Spirit Award-nominated thriller The Signal, which premiered at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival on its way to enduring cult fandom, Lovett has scored over 35 feature films and documentaries including the popular Netflix original The Ritual, Jim Cummings’ werewolf comedy The Wolf of Snow Hollow, and the sci-if noir Synchronicity, which earned Ben a nomination for “Discovery of the Year” at the prestigious World Soundtrack Awards.
