Lakeshore Records is set to release the soundtrack to the upcoming epic saga “Foundation,” based on Isaac Asimov’s timeless trilogy and featuring music by Emmy® and BAFTA award-winning composer Bear McCreary (Masters of the Universe: Revelation, Godzilla: King of the Monsters). Foundation—Apple TV+ Original Series Soundtrack will be available digitally September 24 and the series will premiere globally on Apple TV+ on September 24.
Based on the award-winning novels by Isaac Asimov and brought to the screen for the first time from visionary show-runner and executive producer David S. Goyer, “Foundation” chronicles a band of exiles on their monumental journey to save humanity and rebuild civilization amid the fall of the Galactic Empire. When revolutionary Dr. Hari Seldon predicts the impending fall of the Empire, he and a band of loyal followers venture to the far reaches of the galaxy to establish The Foundation in an attempt to rebuild and preserve the future of civilization. Enraged by Hari's claims, the ruling Cleons — a long line of emperor clones — fear their unrivaled reign may be weakening as they’re forced to reckon with the potential reality of losing their powerful legacy forever.
Says McCreary: "When show-runner David S. Goyer invited me to join him on his adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s seminal science fiction novel ‘Foundation’ for Apple TV+, my imagination immediately went into overdrive. Inspired by the ‘psychohistory’ of the source material, I wanted to incorporate mathematics into the score. Using custom computer software, I crafted an ‘orchestra’ of sampled instruments playing dazzling patterns of algorithmically generated musical notes that would be virtually impossible for human beings to play.
These distinct colors underscore the story’s concept that there is a fundamental mathematical principal guiding the universe, unseen by nearly all. This 'math theme' is layered underneath a live symphonic orchestra and soaring choir I needed to hit the emotional high points of this ambitious series. Scoring Foundation changed the way I think about how computers can affect my creative process. It was a joy putting music on this epic canvas, and I’m grateful to be a small part of the Foundation saga."
Emmy® and BAFTA award-winning composer Bear McCreary was first launched into pop culture with his groundbreaking score to the hit series Battlestar Galactica, lauded by Variety as “the most innovative music on TV today.” Io9.com ranked McCreary one of the Ten Best Science Fiction Composers of All Time, and he has twice been awarded ASCAP Composer of the Year by his peers.
