COMPOSER FREDERIK WIEDMANN TACKLES AN ALTERNATE JUSTICE LEAGUE UNIVERSE!

La-La Land Records will be releasing the JUSTICE LEAGUE: GODS AND MONSTERS soundtrack CD (limited edition 1000 units) exclusively at www.lalalandrecords.com on August 11, 2015.  Composer Frederik Wiedmann (FIELD OF LOST SHOES, JUSTICE LEAGUE: THRONE OF ATLANTIS) composed the music for the DC Universe Animated Original Movie available on DVD and BluRay also on July 28, 2015.

“I was super excited to get to work on Justice League: Gods and Monsters with Bruce Timm, our second project together (after Green Lantern - The Animated Series),” said Wiedmann.  “When I first saw the footage, I was blown away by how different everything was. Nothing was like I expected. It was a very unique, new take on our favorite superheroes, an invitation for me to reinvent myself a little bit from a musical perspective, which is a very exciting place to start a new project.”

Witness a divergent reality where the Justice League protects the planet – but answers to no one but themselves. Employing methods of intimidation and fear, this Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman deal brute force in the name of justice. From the creative genius of executive producer Bruce Timm and co-producer Alan Burnett comes an original story where the world’s greatest triumvirate of super heroes has distinctly different origins. Superman was not raised by the Kents in Smallville, the Caped Crusader is not Bruce Wayne, and Wonder Woman is not an Amazon warrior of Themyscira. They are as likely the world’s saviors as Earth’s despotic rulers. When a group of famed scientists experience untimely “accidents,” a government task force follows the trail of clues to the Justice League – but is there a more powerful player operating from the shadows?  It’s a high stakes game of intrigue, mystery and action that asks the question: How do you serve justice to those above the law?

“Our three main heroes all have a very dark past, and as we get to learn about their backstory the music follows the tragic events of their journey beat by beat,” Wiedmann described.  “We recorded a wonderful group of 30 strings at East West Studios in Los Angeles (conducted by Hyesu Yang), giving the emotional aspects of the score the depth and warmth it deserves. You will also hear an array of dulcimers and guitars, as well as ethnic woodwinds (performed by Chris Bleth), mostly complimenting Wonder Woman’s backstory and giving it a slightly ethnic flavor (“In Another Life”).”

Born in Stuttgart, Germany, Frederik Wiedmann came to Los Angeles in 2004 to pursue his childhood dream of becoming a film composer. After a couple assistant positions, Wiedmann scored his first feature RETURN TO HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL for Dark Castle Entertainment, Warner Premier in 2007. Since then, he has written music for a wide variety of feature films such as COMPANY OF HEROS, HOSTEL PART III, THE DAMNED, THE HILLS RUN RED, JARHEAD II, FIELD OF LOST SHOES and many others.

After adding 2 Annie Award Music nominations to his resume for the critically acclaimed TV series GREEN LANTERN: THE ANIMATED SERIES, he moved onto scoring the brand new Warner Bros. Animation show BEWARE THE BATMAN (Cartoon Network), as well as numerous animated feature films based on DC Comics, such as SON OF BATMAN, JUSTICE LEAGUE: FLASHPOINT PARADOX, JUSTICE LEAGUE: THRONE OF ATLANTIS, the successful Disney Junior feature LUCKY DUCK and series MILES FROM TOMORROWLAND, and the Netflix series KING JULIEN.

Warner Bros. Home Video presents JUSTICE LEAGUE: GODS AND MONSTERS, available on DVD and BluRay on July 28, 2015. The JUSTICE LEAGUE: GODS AND MONSTERS - Original Soundtrack will be available on CD (limited edition 1000 units) from www.lalalandrecords.com on August 11, 2015.

Interview with Author/Editor... Joseph Nassise [MIDIAN UNMADE: Anthology for Clive Barker's Nightbreed]

If you know me and some of you do, if you ever ask me what my favorite horror film is... my response is always "NIGHTBREED" from the book by Clive Barker called "CABAL". Now it's my great pleasure to see I am not alone, there are more of us who felt the stories needed to be told and that includes Joseph Nassise Author/Editor one of new authorized book by "TOR BOOKS". So step beyond the gates, find yourself below in the hidden caverns and share in the monsters' world behind Midian. Thank you to Joseph for his time and Desirae for making it all happen... enjoy!

Jeremy [The Wolf]: Being a continuation of the original "Nightbreed" tale, what do you think fans should take away after reading this book "Midian Unmade"?

Joseph Nassise: Cabal (the original Nightbreed tale) played with our perceptions of what is truly monstrous, making the monsters more humane than the humans and the humans more monstrous than the monsters.  The writers of the stories that make up Midian Unmade strove to mirror that approach, to play with the way we look at beauty and horror in equal measures.

Jeremy [The Wolf]: Which of the characters within the book "Midian Unmade" do you feel had the strongest story to tell and why?

Joseph Nassise: To be honest, I don’t think any one story is more relevant or stronger than any of the others.  My co-editor, Del Howison, and I, tried to select stories that remained true to Clive’s original vision for the Nightbreed, focusing in on the theme noted above, and so no one particular character exemplifies that more than any of the others.  I have my favorite stories, as I suspect anyone who reads the anthology will, but that doesn’t make a particular tale stronger or more important than any of the others.

Jeremy [The Wolf]: With the recent release of the long awaited "Nightbreed: Director's Cut" on BLU-RAY/DVD, was this book in development before or after this release?

Joseph Nassise: The concept for Midian Unmade: Tales of Clive Barker’s Nightbreed was first conceived nearly four years ago, in late 2011, so it was definitely in development long before the release of the Director’s Cut.

Jeremy [The Wolf]: I had always felt the film was a middle that needed a beginning and an end, do the writers give us that... or is there more we can take away for future tales?

Joseph Nassise: I always felt that the film itself was Boone’s tale.  Given that, I don’t think Midian Unmade could be considered a beginning or an end for Nightbreed.  It’s more like a branching of the tree than anything else; the major plot-line has suddenly expanded and given readers the opportunity to follow all these additional stories that split off from the primary one.  And I’d definitely consider doing another volume or two if the public response to this one is as good as I hope!

Jeremy [The Wolf]: Before being involved with this project, what were some of your favorite horror characters, stories or films?

Joseph Nassise: Clearly Cabal is one of them. :)  I’m a fan of Clive’s work in general  with Damnation Game, Weaveworld, The Great and Secret Show, Everville, and Coldheart Canyon being particular favorites.  Dan Simmons, Robert McCammon, John Connolly, and Charlie Huston are also other personal favorites.

MIDIAN UNMADE: Anthology for Clive Barker's Nightbreed [TOR BOOKS]

An authorized, all-original horror anthology set in the world of
Clive Barker's cult film masterpiece,
Nightbreed MIDIAN UNMADE: Tales of Clive Barker’s Nightbreed

Clive Barker's Nightbreed has been controversial since the moment it was released in a version edited by the studio and roundly condemned by Barker, who wrote and directed the movie. A virtually instant cult film based on Barker's novella Cabal, it was nominated for three Saturn Awards and won several prizes at European film festivals. Now the story continues in MIDIAN UNMADE (CLICK HERE), a collection Dark Discoveries calls a “landmark contribution to a core horror mythology.”

Horror experts and writers Joseph Nassisse and Del Howison have collected outstanding original horror short stories in a dazzling variety of styles for MIDIAN UNMADE. Publishers Weekly recommends the stories, and praises, “the juxtapositions of monstrous humans and humanized monsters will register with fans of thought-provoking horror.” With an introduction by Clive Barker himself, MIDIAN UNMADE is a collection for any horror fan to enjoy.

Contributors include: Karl Alexander, author of the classic novel Time After Time; actor, writer, and director Amber Benson (Tara Maclay on Buffy the Vampire Slayer); New York Times bestselling author Nancy Holder; Hugo and John W. Campbell Award winner Seanan McGuire; Bram Stoker Award winner Weston Ochse; David J. Schow, winner of the World Fantasy Award and writer of the screenplay for The Crow; New York Times bestselling writer Stephen Woodworth; and many more—the collection contains 23 stories in all.

MIDIAN UNMADE tells the stories of the Nightbreed after the fall of their city, Midian. Driven from their homes, their friends and family members slain before their eyes, the monsters become a mostly-hidden diaspora. Some are hunted; others, hunters. Some seek refuge. Others want revenge. MIDIAN UNMADE is the horror collection of the summer – essential reading for anyone who enjoys outstanding, heartfelt horror.

Caldera Records: Maria di Nazaret [2015] - Guy Farley

Caldera Records is proud to present the original score for the television movie Maria di Nazaret from 2012, directed by Giacomo Campiotti. The two part movie was a huge success in Italy as it recounts the story of Jesus' mother Maria and accompanies her throughout the life of the son of God until his death on the cross. Maria was played by internationally acclaimed actress Paz Vega who rose to fame after her role in the Adam Sandler movie Spanglish. The music for Maria di Nazaret was written by British composer and conductor Guy Farley (Secret Sharer, Modigliani) who delivers probably his most diverse score to date, featuring lush orchestral melodies for orchestra and choir as well as female vocals and solos for ethnic instruments, played by Tony Hinnigan (Braveheart).

Additionally, we included another score by Farley on the CD: L'uomo che sognava con l'aquile was written for an extensive Italian television production with Terence Hill which gathered raving reviews after its premiere in 2006. Also, we present a bonus cue with the much beloved track Reunited from the Jean Claude van Damme movie Wake of Death which receives its premiere release here. The tenth CD-release of Caldera Records features a detailed booklet-text by Stephan Eicke and elegant artwork by Luis Miguel Rojas. The CD was produced by Stephan Eicke and John Elborg.

MR. HOLMES [2015] - Carter Burwell

Lakeshore Records will release the MR. HOLMES – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on July 24 and on CD August 28, 2015. The album features the film’s original score by Carter Burwell (TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAK DAWN PART 1 & 2, THE BIG LEBOWSKI).

“I don't always do this, but in this case I started with the opening titles of the film,” Burwell stated. “It painted the picture of the aging Holmes and also set the film in motion.”

Mr. Holmes is a new twist on the world’s most famous detective. 1947, an aging Sherlock Holmes (Ian McKellen) returns from a journey to Japan, where, in search of a rare plant with powerful restorative qualities, he has witnessed the devastation of nuclear warfare. Now, in his remote seaside farmhouse, Holmes faces the end of his days tending to his bees, with only the company of his housekeeper and her young son, Roger. Grappling with the diminishing powers of his mind, Holmes comes to rely upon the boy as he revisits the circumstances of the unsolved case that forced him into retirement, and searches for answers to the mysteries of life and love – before it's too late.

In keeping with the theme of losing grip on reality, Burwell used various instruments to further that point. “The glass armonica is a story element. It's a fascinating instrument, made of glass, rumored to drive those who play it mad” and this theme carried throughout.

Listeners will also notice the emotional themes that follow throughout the score. Burwell said himself the recurring themes “Intertwine, as though getting tangled in Holmes' mind. One is about a case and love that haunts him. Another is about the tension between the fictional Holmes and the real one.”

Carter Burwell graduated from Harvard College. While at Harvard, he studied animation with Mary Beams and George Griffin, electronic music with Ivan Tcherepnin and pursued a course of independent study at the MIT Media Lab (then known as the Architecture Machine Group).  In the early 80s, he worked at the New York Institute of Technology where he began as a computer modeler and animator, but ended up as Director of Digital Sound Research. During this time, he worked on many computer-animated television spots and films, ultimately contributing models and animation to the Japanese anime Lensman.

At the same time, Burwell pursued a parallel career in music, playing with a number of bands in New York City, particularly The Same, Thick Pigeon, and Radiante. He was also writing music for dance, theatre and film.  His first film works included the Coen Brothers first feature, BLOOD SIMPLE. This lead to a twenty year collaboration on such films as FARGO, THE BIG LEBOWSKI, THE HUDSUCKER PROXY, O BROTHER WHERE ARE THOU? and NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN.  Burwell’s credits also include BEING JOHN MALKOVICH, BEFORE NIGHT FALLS, VELVET GOLDMINE, THE SPANISH PRISONER, THREE KINGS, THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT, TRUE GRIT, the HBO mini-series MILDRED PIERCE, and several films in the Twilight series including TWILIGHT, THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN PART 1 and PART 2.  His upcoming films include CAROL, starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, LEGEND, starring Tom Hardy and Emily Browning, the animated film ANOMALISA, and the Coen Brothers newest production, HAIL CAESAR!

Miramax and Roadside Attractions present MR. HOLMES in theaters July 17, 2015. Lakeshore Records will release the MR. HOLMES – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on July 24th and on CD August 28, 2015.

Richness and fullness to be that score to a film that isn't a film. As we are whisked from track to next, we are swept to the darkness of space only to find yourself moving along the side of an invisible ship in it's travels. I have had the great pleasure of working with Penka on a few projects and every new release from her always amazes me to think "things do get better", not that was any problem with prior releases... she just shines here. Penka finds huge support from her family, friends and composer pals she has encounter over the years... with love and tons of respect I give you all "THE WOMAN ASTRONAUT" by composer Penka Kouneva.

SPECTRUM [2015] - Frederik Wiedmann (A Good Cause, That Takes Notice!)

Composer Frederik Wiedmann (FIELD OF LOST SHOES, JUSTICE LEAGUE: GODS AND MONSTERS) is proud to announce the release of SPECTRUM - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on July 7, 2015, with all proceeds going to Autism Women's Network.  The album was orchestrated by Hyesu Yang and mastered by Damon Tedesco.

“When Jill Jones (Director) and Brent Yontz (Producer/Cinematographer) asked me to compose the music to SPECTRUM, I was beyond excited,” Wiedmann said. “Their beautiful film captured such unique and interesting aspects of autism, from the perspective of children and adults, from a different point of view, than previously illustrated in other documentaries.”

Spectrum combines live action and animation to explore the inner sensory experience of autism. While autism is largely regarded as a social disorder, Spectrum reveals the underlying sensory differences that create an autistic perspective. Sensory issues create a world where vision, sound, touch and smell can be intense. The story is a series of character driven portraits beginning with Temple Grandin, the most well-known autistic adult in the world. Other characters include poet Tito Mukhopadhyay, artist Judy Endow, martial artist Nick Walker, and a group of young, energetic children. Rather than fearing autism, Spectrum seeks to understand it.

“Freddie’s score of Spectrum invites a fresh understanding of autism,” said producers Jones and Yontz.  “The main theme suggests an unexpected but optimistic journey. As we meet the subjects of the film, the music fosters an atmosphere of compassion. Keep listening, and the score builds to something more meditative, circling the ideas of sensory perception, suggesting the intelligence and complexity of our autistic characters. Freddie completes the score with a dramatic call to action to see autism differently. The beauty of the score commands our attention, and these voices deserve to be heard.”

“Our characters in this doc all describe their senses, things they feel and hear everyday, things no one else around them can experience the same way,” Wiedmann explained. “Jill and Brent created some stunning animation to visualize those experiences, and I had the daunting task to do the same with the score.”

The SPECTRUM - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack will be available digitally on July 7, 2015, with all proceeds going to Autism Women's Network. The film is now viewable at https://vimeo.com/ondemand/spectrumthefilm.

THE MUSIC OF PATRICK DOYLE: SOLO PIANO [2015]

Varèse Sarabande announces the July 24th release of THE MUSIC OF PATRICK DOYLE: SOLO PIANO featuring original performances and arrangements by Oscar®-nominated composer Patrick Doyle. The collection features some of Patrick’s most revered compositions performed on piano by Doyle himself.  The eighteen tracks include music from SENSE AND SENSIBILITY, GREAT EXPECTATIONS, NANNY McPHEE, GOSFORD PARK and CINDERELLA.  Doyle’s career will also be celebrated later this year when he is presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 15th World Soundtrack Awards in Ghent.

“I have been recording the piano album over the last three years in between many other projects and I hope you enjoy listening to the melodies as much as I did reliving the lovely memories,” said Doyle. “This album is one of two planned volumes of the many film themes that I have composed over the last 25 years.  The tracks on the album are not in chronological order, for as our memories are jumbled up and flit from one particular moment to the other, so does the album.”

Patrick Doyle has scored over 50 international feature films, including Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, BRAVE, Gosford Park, Sense and Sensibility (for which Doyle earned his first Oscar-nomination), Indochine, Carlito’s Way and A Little Princess. His work has led to collaborations with some of the most acclaimed directors in the world, including Regis Wargnier, Brian De Palma, Alfonso Cuarón, Ang Lee, Chen Kaige, Mike Newell and Robert Altman.

Perhaps Doyle is best known for his long-time creative collaboration on film with Kenneth Branagh, which began in the theatre and moved into film in 1989 with Henry V.  The song ‘Non Nobis Domine’ was awarded the 1989 Ivor Novello Award for Best Film Theme.  In 1991, they re-teamed for Dead Again, which earned Doyle a Golden Globe®-nomination. Subsequent collaborations include Frankenstein, Much Ado About Nothing, Love’s Labour’s Lost, As You Like It, Hamlet (for which Doyle received his second Oscar nomination), Sleuth, THOR, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, and 2015’s CINDERELLA.

“I have had the great fortune of collaborating with some of the most notable and influential directors in the history of film who cross over the last two centuries,” Doyle explained.  “Each of their films is the only reason these melodies exist.”

La-La Land Records presents acclaimed composer Richard Band’s (RE-ANIMATOR, FROM BEYOND, PUPPETMASTER) original motion picture score to the beloved 1982 horror/thriller THE HOUSE ON SORORITY ROW, starring Kate McNeil, Eileen Davidson and Harley Jane Kozak, and directed by Mark Rosman. Considered by fans as one of the most beautiful indie horror music of its era, Mr. Band’s orchestral score is thematically rich and absolutely teaming with drama and suspense. Produced by Richard Band, this re-issue has been remastered by James Nelson and expanded with previously unreleased bonus tracks (this bonus material is sourced from mono elements). All-new and exclusive liner notes from Daniel Schweiger (featuring new comments from the composer and director), and classy-creepy art direction from David C. Fein compliment this exciting release. Joanna Lumley’s Trans-Siberian Adventure [2015] - Miguel d'Oliveira

MovieScore Media presents another exciting documentary score score for ITV’s latest travelogue, Joanna Lumley’s  Trans-Siberian Adventure with music by Miguel d’Oliveira. The 3-part series follows British actress Joanna Lumley (of Absolutely Fabulous fame) on a trip from Hong Kong to Moscow through China, Mongolia and Russia. During her trip, Joanna revisits her childhood home where her father was stationed, then she travels thousands of miles, visits the obligatory tourist sites (such as the Great Wall of China) and also makes a few unusual stops (such as meeting a shaman in Mongolia). The soundtrack release coincides with the program’s debut on ITV on July 12, 2015.

“Early on this project, director Michael Waldman and I decided that, instead of emulating all the musical idiosyncrasies of the vastly different countries and territories Joanna travels through, the score should seem as if we were hearing everything through her“ explains the composer about the score. "This is why the music has a very British / Western hemisphere flavour, as opposed to a collection of rough guide tracks." The unique ensemble consists of the composer playing nine different instruments (guitars, piano, viola, cello, clarinet, dulcimer) accompanied by soloists for piccolo, cor anglais, violin and cello. Several tracks also have a hint of Eastern sounds (particularly Tuvan throat singing) plus Russian and Chinese instruments complimenting the exotic stops of the Trans-Siberian Adventure.

Following his graduation from medical school, composer Miguel d'Oliveira taught himself music and became a multi-instrumentalist playing in several ethnic and jazz bands as well as symphonic orchestras. After scoring his first short for a film school graduate,  he completed an MA in Composition for Film at the National Film and Television School. The composer’s credits include the horror film The Toybox (2005) and documentaries on numerous interesting subjects such as The Bible: A History (2010), The Viking Sagas (2011), The Ground Zero Mosque (2011) and The American Road Trip: Obama's Story (2012). Like Trans-Siberian Adventure, each of these scores highlight the composer’s unique ability in melding exciting ethnic elements with a symphonic sound.

“Except for a few cues where a synthetic drone is used, the score is entirely acoustic, full orchestra and chamber set ups,” the composers described. “Ben Charest even had a go at playing accordion while Ben Groulx was preparing a piano with sound engineer Mathieu Dulong for wild sound effects.”

JONATHAN STRANGE & MR. NORRELL is currently airing on BBC America. JONATHAN STRANGE & MR. NORRELL – Original Score on Varèse Sarabande, will be available digitally on July 17 and on CD on July 24, 2015.

Syfy's 12 MONKEYS [2015] - Trevor Rabin/Paul Linford

Varèse Sarabande will release the 12 MONKEYS – Original Television Soundtrack both digitally and on CD July 31, 2015.  The album features the original music co-composed by Trevor Rabin (REMEMBER THE TITANS, ARMAGEDDON) and Paul Linford (BLOOD AND OIL, video game NEED FOR SPEED: MOST WANTED).

“The 12 MONKEYS score, which I'm doing with my long time assistant and collaborator Paul Linford, is a hybrid score of ethnic sounds, orchestra, and electronic, with a strong theme base,” said Rabin.

12 MONKEYS explores the provocative story of Cole, a time traveler from a decimated future in a high-stakes race against the clock. Utilizing a dangerous and untested method of time travel, he journeys from 2043 to the present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will all but annihilate the human race.

Trevor Rabin has earned a worldwide reputation for his innovative work as a musician and composer. Accepting an invitation from industry heavyweight John Kalodner, he moved to Los Angeles and his demos came to the attention of former Yes bass player Chris Squire. Squire was looking for a guitarist for a new band he was putting together, and Trevor's demos became the basis for the new group Cinema. The Yes "comeback" album 90125 became by far the biggest-selling of the group's career, launching the group's only #1 single, Rabin's "Owner Of A Lonely Heart" and only Grammy, "Cinema". When Trevor parted ways with Yes he was offered a film score, the outcome of which proved prolific. Since then he has composed the soundtracks for mega-budget Hollywood movies, enhancing the performances of stars like Will Smith, Nicholas Cage, Denzel Washington and Samuel L Jackson.

La-La Land Records: MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE ROGUE NATION [2015] - Joe Kraemer

La-La Land Records is proud to announce the release of the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE ROGUE NATION soundtrack CD being released exclusively on www.lalalandrecords.com on July 28th and other retail outlets August 4, 2015. The album features the original music by composer Joe Kraemer (JACK REACHER, DAWN PATROL).

Kraemer composed a motif for Ethan Hunt that is “a sort of upside-down answer” to Lalo Schifrin’s original theme for the TV show. “In keeping with the goal of paying homage to original show, while still sounding relevant to today’s audiences, I decided I would only use instruments that were available in 1966, when the TV show began,” Kraemer stated. “That meant no synthesizers, no techno loops, essentially no electronic instruments at all. As a result, the score has been performed entirely with acoustic instruments in a symphonic orchestral setting.”

Joe Kraemer has been scoring films since the age of 15, when he composed the soundtrack for high school classmate Scott Storm’s THE CHIMING HOUR, a feature-length indie shot on Super 8 in 1986.  It was during this time that he first met a young writer named Christopher McQuarrie, a meeting that would lead to three career-defining projects for Kraemer, THE WAY OF THE GUN, JACK REACHER, and the upcoming MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE ROGUE NATION. Kraemer attended the renowned Berklee School of Music in Boston to study Film Composing.  Kraemer’s first real ‘industry’ gig was scoring the NBC/Warner Brothers pilot THE UNDERWORLD, written and produced by Christopher McQuarrie, shortly following McQuarrie’s Oscar win for THE USUAL SUSPECTS.  Though the series was not picked up, the pilot was ultimately repurposed as a TV movie, where it has gained a cult following.

Paramount Pictures presents MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE ROGUE NATION in theatres July 31st. La-La Land Records presents MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE ROGUE NATION - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack CD available exclusively at www.lalalandrecords.com on July 28th and other major music retail outlets on August 4, 2015.

Lakeshore Records: WILD HORSES [ROBERT DUVALL]

Lakeshore Records will release the WILD HORSES – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on July 24th and on CD October 16, 2015. The album features songs by artists including Caitlin Eadie, Roy Gaines and his Tuxedo Blues Orchestra, Billy Joe Shaver, with score by Timothy Williams (WALKING WITH THE ENEMY, DEBUG) and a special performance of Cheyenne by the film’s writer/director/co-star Robert Duvall.

Starring James Franco and Josh Hartnett, Wild Horses is the story of Texas Ranger Samantha Payne (Luciana Duvall) who reopens a 15-year-old missing person case, and uncovers evidence that suggests that the boy was likely murdered on a ranch belonging to wealthy family man, Scott Briggs (Robert Duvall). When Scott’s estranged son (James Franco) unexpectedly returns home during the investigation, Samantha becomes even more convinced that the Briggs family was involved, and will stop at nothing to discover the truth about the boy’s death - even putting her own life in jeopardy.

Michael Hodges, Music Producer for the Wild Horses film and Co-Producer of the Motion Picture Soundtrack, said, “Recording Cheyenne with Bobby was a lot of fun.  A portion of the song appears in the film repeatedly, but Bobby didn’t know how the song finished or any other words from it. He had heard his uncle sing it when he was a kid.”

Lakeshore Records: THE END OF THE TOUR - Danny Elfman (and Songs from Various Artists)

Lakeshore Records will release THE END OF THE TOUR – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on July 24th and on CD August 28, 2015. The film, which is set in the mid 90s, features songs by artists including R.E.M, Felt, Tracey Ullman, Fun Boy Three, Brian Eno, Tindersticks, with score by Danny Elfman (FIFTY SHADES OF GREY, ALICE IN WONDERLAND, MILK, GOOD WILL HUNTING).

THE END OF THE TOUR tells the story of the five-day interview between Rolling Stone reporter and novelist David Lipsky (Jesse Eisenberg) and acclaimed novelist David Foster Wallace (Jason Segel), which took place right after the 1996 publication of Wallace’s groundbreaking epic novel, “Infinite Jest.”  As the days go on, a tenuous yet intense relationship seems to develop between journalist and subject. The two men bob and weave around each other, sharing laughs and also possibly revealing hidden frailties – but it’s never clear how truthful they are being with each other. Ironically, the interview was never published, and five days of audiotapes were packed away in Lipsky’s closet. The two men did not meet again.

Elfman has scored a broad range of films, including: Milk (Oscar nominated), Good Will Hunting (Oscar nominated), Big Fish (Oscar nominated), Men in Black (Oscar nominated), Edward Scissorhands, Wanted, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Mission: Impossible, Planet of the Apes, A Simple Plan, To Die For, Spider-Man (1 & 2), Batman, Dolores Claiborne, Sommersby, Chicago, Dick Tracy, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Alice in Wonderland.

Good Neighbors Media: ADVANTAGEOUS - Timo Chen

Good Neighbors Media will release the ADVANTAGEOUS – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally via iTunes on July 24th with a CD to be released later in August.  The album, which is currently available at the film’s website (http://advantageous.me/) features the film’s original score by Timo Chen, who is an avid creator of instruments, including the “Jimbow” which was invented for the score.

“This was a science fiction tale but also it was a story of a mother and daughter. It was a story about women and human struggle,” Chen explained. “I wanted the score to have a very humanist element to it.”

Varèse Sarabande: PIXELS [2015] - Henry Jackman

Varèse Sarabande will release the PIXELS – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and on CD July 24, 2015.  The album features the original music composed by Henry Jackman (BIG HERO 6, CAPTAIN AMERICA: WINTER SOLDIER).

“I think everyone involved with this movie has a great love for the great summer action-comedies of the 1980s,” said Executive Producer Michael Barnathan.  “We definitely wanted a movie for today’s audiences, but our goal was also to capture something of the feel that made those movies so special – that mix of action and comedy that the movies of that era did so well.”

“It feels like it could have been made in the 80s,” said Jackman, who chose not to score Pixels comedically because, “the comedy in the film speaks for itself.”  Henry Jackman worked with a 40-voice choir, live percussion with five players, and a full orchestra of 75 members to create the Pixels score.

The film’s composer Henry Jackman grew up in the southeast of England, where he began composing his first symphony at the age of six. He studied classical music at Oxford and sang in the St. Paul’s Cathedral Choir.  Henry quickly got involved in the underground rave scene and began producing popular electronica music and dance remixes, eventually working with artists such as Seal and The Art of Noise. Jackman has established himself as one of today’s top composers by fusing his classical training and his experience as successful record producer and creator of electronic music. His musical versatility ratcheted up the tension in Paul Greengrass’ Captain Phillips (earning him a BAFTA nomination). Henry super-powered comic book hits such as X-Men: First Class and Captain America: Winter Soldier and breathed life into legendary animated characters like Winnie the Pooh, Puss in Boots and new classics like Wreck-It Ralph and Oscar®-winner Big Hero 6. Other Henry Jackman films include Kingsman: The Secret Service and Kick-Ass.

Sony Pictures presents PIXELS, in theatres on July 24, 2015.  Varèse Sarabande will release the PIXELS – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally and on CD July 24, 2015.

Intrada: CAT'S EYE [1985-2015] - ALAN SILVESTRI

Alan Silvestri's 1985 score for Cat's Eye comes between two of his more famous works: the 1984 hit Romancing the Stone and 1985 classic Back to the Future. It is perhaps his last work before he became well-known, hurtled into the public eye with Back to the Future just a few months later. Performed entirely electronically, Silvestri opens the score with a pulsating heartbeat motif and eerie strains that accompany a close-up of a feline eye peeling open. This leads to a madcap sequence where Silvestri introduces two primary ideas: a buoyant chase theme that conveys the cat’s relentless need to keep moving and a gleaming melody for the cat’s heroics that plays like a trial run of his Back to the Future theme.

Highlights from the score were previously available on LP. The contents were sequenced with maximum listening pleasure in mind rather than adhering to strict film chronology. As such, some sequences were edited together when musically appropriate and other sequences were simply dropped altogether. Track titles were created expressly for the album. For this expanded CD premiere, Intrada obtained from the composer his own two-track stereo session mixes and went back to the studio paperwork to determine the original cue titles and adhered to the overall film sequence more or less.

Based on Stephen King's short stories, Cat's Eye begins with a cat having a vision of a little girl (Drew Barrymore) calling to him, and he sets out to find her. The cat's journey takes him through three different tales--the first to "Quitter's Inc.", a mysterious company offering to help people quit nicotine addiction, the second to "The Ledge", the penthouse of a gambler, and the third, "General", where he finally meets the little girl who was unconsciously summoning him to save her from a pint-sized, yet deadly troll.

Intrada: CAPRICORN ONE [1978-2015] - JERRY GOLDSMITH

Jerry Goldsmith's score for the 1978 film Capricorn One unknowingly created a template for the next quarter-century of action scores.  The cat-and-mouse chase and escape sequences afforded Goldsmith the opportunity to compose some of the most unique suspense and exciting action set-pieces of his lengthy career, not to mention the appearance of a subtly melancholy romantic theme that speaks to love tragically lost.

Ten years ago Intrada premiered the original film recordings on a limited edition CD that quickly sold out.  The justifiably famous LP released at the time of the movie's debut was a re-recording made by Goldsmith, containing edited highlights, arranged and reorchestrated by Goldsmith. Performances on the Intrada are crisper and cues have significant complex detail, including much of the electronics, that were deleted from the LP arrangement.  Rather than simply re-use the master from the 2005 release, Intrada has rebuilt, reassembled and remastered the music to improve the sound, including an additional alternate not previously released.

The conspiracy-thriller tells the story of a voyage to Mars.  But did the astronauts ever reach their destination?  In Capricorn One, a misguided attempt to save a failing space program results in a faked landing on Mars. They almost get away with it, too, until the real unmanned space capsule burns up during re-entry and the three "astronauts" find themselves facing certain execution. Directed by Peter Hyams, the film stars Elliot Gould, James Brolin, Sam Waterston, Brenda Vaccaro, Hal Holbrook, Karen Black, O.J. Simpson, and Telly Savalas.
