With the launch of the fifth and final season of the Syfy original series Van Helsing, MovieScore Media releases over an hour’s worth of music from the show’s history, composed by Rich Walters (Olympus). The fantasy horror series stars Kelly Overton as Vanessa Helsing, a distant relative of famous vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing, who gets resurrected only to find that vampires have taken over the world. With the unique ability of turning vampires into humans, Vanessa must fight through an apocalyptic wasteland in order to fight the Elders, the group of vampires in charge.
"Van Helsing spanned 65 episodes which has given me the musical opportunity to explore many traditional and contemporary musical foundations," recalls Rich Walters about the 5-season trip with the show. "From the quiet beginnings in the isolated hospital to traveling back in time into Transylvania, the musical palate like the vast character and location storylines evolved alongside all of these. At the core of it all is the journey through evil & good. The music reflected all of these situations from very simple, quite and delicate emotional scenes of loss, love and successes to massive set battle sequences between Humans, Vampires and Other Worldly entities. Where in one moment a solo cello might be all the story required to switching gears abruptly as brass, strings and percussive instrumentation were called upon to help solidify the foundations for war."
Based in Los Angeles and Vancouver, composer Rich Walters gained his musical education at Capilano University, majoring in music theory, composition and arranging. He started out his career as a music editor, working on dozens of projects, including television series (Just Cause, Continuum), TV movies (Nick Willing’s Alice) and feature films (Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium). As a composer, his work ranges from television shows (Riese, Dussault Inc.) and movies (Ring of Fire) to providing additional music to this year’s sci-fi extravaganza Chappie. His list of accolades include a Leo Award, 2 Emmy nominations and 2 Canadian Screen Award nominations. Rich’s music for Olympus has been released by MovieScore Media.
