BRANDED 'OLD AND UGLY' BY THE PRESS, VETERAN SINGER COLLETTE MCLAFFERTY RECLAIMS HER VOICE, ONE HEADLINE AT A TIME
(Working Performer Standing Up to Lawsuit Preventing Her from Singing Pink's Music In Concert) WIth over 1000 shows under her belt, a nod from MTV, and a worldwide, if cultish, fan base, Collette McLafferty is truly a music "lifer." In an industry that brings new challenges with every year, the goal of the lifer is always the same: keep working and keep your audience happy. McLafferty, 40, was thrust into the national news when she was unexpectedly served with a $10,000,000 lawsuit for her services as a "hired gun" in a Pink tribute band called Funhouse. She was paid $75 for the show, accrued $3200 in legal bills with 13 allegations (including one that stated she was "unattractive") against her in a 112-page complaint. She never met the Plaintiff (who's name she has no reason to mention), but does confirm that he is a former drummer who became a Personal Injury attorney. When she learned she may be locked into the court system for years, she finally took her own attorney's advice to speak out. The New York Post requested an interview and actually printed the headline: SINGER SUED FOR BEING TOO OLD AND TOO UGLY FOR PINK COVER BAND. McLafferty was quite surprised to read the headline, "The lawsuit never said I was old and angry...only unattractive." McLafferty recalls, "Celebrities deal with this everyday, working class musicians not so much." On the positive, it was "good to see Pink's picture next to mine."

Origin: A penny Dreadful (also called penny horrible, penny awful, penny number, and penny blood) was a type of British fiction publication in the 19th century that usually featured lurid serial stories appearing in parts over a number of weeks, each part costing one (old) penny. The term, however, soon came to encompass a variety of publications that featured cheap sensational fiction, such as story papers and booklet "libraries". The penny dreadfuls were printed on cheap pulp paper and were aimed at young working class males.
Just what you might expect... some scare, some romance and all DREADFUL... Nicely done score by Abel Korzeniowski, still trying to get to watch the series... as for the score it works well on it's own.

“INTO THE STORM was an opportunity to do a completely conceptual score,” said Tyler. “The idea was that an approaching storm is represented by the premise of being stalked in the savanna by a lion or tiger - primal, but patient. African flutes whistle in the far distance over completely still strings holding like a lion stalking, waiting patiently to strike. Then without warning, the power of the storm is upon you before you are even aware. This was a really fun and rewarding concept for me to compose.”

One of several horror films released at the height of the slasher movie craze of the late 1970s and early 1980s, The Boogey Man is an effective mash-up of supernatural cinema’s greatest hits that has developed a strong cult following. Director and co-writer Ulli Lommel was born into a show business family, and began his career as an actor in the German film industry in the 1960s. Striking up a relationship with the celebrated filmmaker Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Lommel went on to collaborate with him on over twenty projects.

The Kell household is far from what you would call an ideal family. Otis is the new head of the household and he makes sure that everyone abides to his rules – when his wife Edith makes a small mistake, Otis severely beats her for her misdemeanor. The violent attack is witnessed by Edith’s young daughter Sissy, who is so accustomed to these attacks that she tends to her mother’s wounds between tea parties. Her guest at these parties is her older brother Jacob, a dimwitted young man who is insanely protective of his sister. When one of Otis’ rage attacks is targeted against the girl, Jacob immediately kills him and lets the decades of regret and humiliation take over his mind. Add in a supernatural twist and with nothing to lose, Jacob turns his wrath against the town that let this tragedy happen.
You know we all have a special friend like Jacob, always looking out for you... well then you should always look over your shoulder. Howlin' Wolf Record releases it's 21st score to the disturbing film "JACOB" composed by Iain Kelso and it's dark piece. BUCK ROGERS IN THE 25th CENTURY - SEASON 2 Composed and Conducted by BRUCE BROUGHTON, JOHN CACAVAS, STU PHILLIPS, HERBERT DON WOODS
Intrada follows its previous release of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, Season One with a four-disc set focusing on Season 2. The music for Buck Rogers’ second outing was similarly a mix of old and new, as the show was considerably different from its first season. Larson’s title theme was retained (albeit with new narration), and the roster of composers included the familiar names of John Cacavas, Herbert Donald Woods and Galactica veteran Stu Phillips, who had scored the pilot film. New to the mix and scoring the majority of episodes was composer Bruce Broughton. Broughton ultimately scored more than half of Buck Rogers’ second season, beginning with the premiere. “I remember talking with John [Mantley -- new producer] about the show, and the direction he intended it to take. His stories didn’t revolve around science fiction as much as around people in interesting situations. As a result, the shows on the second season are probably a little more old-fashioned than the first, but for me they lent themselves to interesting dramatic and musical opportunities," commented Broughton in the album's liner notes. The result is the show incorporated more dramatic scoring and less lightweight material than Season One, resulting in more thematic structure and shape with numerous action sequences and colorful orchestrations to spare.
To premiere the music from Season Two, Intrada had access to Universal’s three-channel stereo scoring session masters for every episode included in this album.
The second season of Buck Rogers is very different from the first season. The retooling of season not only included new writing, but gone was the Earthcentric setting; Buck and crew would now voyage across the galaxy on the starship Searcher, seeking out “lost tribes” of Earth. Gone were the venerable Dr. Huer (Tim O’Connor), the lustful Princess Ardala (Pamela Hensley) and the formidable Kane (Michael Ansara). Buck himself remained, as did Col. Wilma Deering (Erin Gray). Comical android Twiki (Felix Silla) survived in a reduced role, and bereft of his AI counterpart Dr. Theopolis (Eric Server). New characters included Admiral Asimov (Jay Garner), a descendant of author Isaac Asimov; congenial scientist Dr. Goodfellow (Wilfrid Hyde-White); an insufferable robot named Crichton (voiced by Jeff David); and the birdman Hawk (Thom Christopher), an adversary who becomes Buck’s trusted ally.
Prior to scoring Her Alibi, composer Georges Delerue had done his share of romantic comedies with elements of mock suspense (Partners, Maxie, Twins), and romantic music came as naturally to him as breathing. For Her Alibi he wrote a sincere romantic theme for Nina, the heart of the score, as well as a mischievous melody for Blackwood’s detective avatar, some lighthearted danger music for the Romanian bad guys, and several other melodic ideas and set-pieces for a rich work that complements the film’s comedy but also imbues it with a real sense of exoticism and romance. It would be one of five projects Delerue ultimately collaborated on with director Bruce Beresford.
To present all of this music, Intrada was given access to the original session mixes made in December 1988, contained on four rolls of ¼” 15 ips two-track stereo tape and vaulted in pristine condition by Warner Bros. The album contains a complete body of previously unreleased (and in many cases, unheard) Georges Delerue compositions of the finest quality, filling a major gap in his available oeuvre.

“The score for RED SKY moves between the USA, Azerbaijan and Russia,” Williams explained. He used a lot of ethnic drums and instruments including the duduk – an oboe-like instrument common to both Russia and Azerbaijan. “The other instrument I used to evoke the Middle East was a Ney, which a great buzzy wind instrument that instantly evokes the hot desert.”

Mysterious deaths surround an American ambassador. Could the child that
he is raising actually be the anti-christ? The devil's own son? An original score for the film, including the movie's theme song "Ave Satani," was composed by Jerry Goldsmith, for which he received the only Oscar of his long career. The score features a strong choral segment, with a foreboding Latin chant. The refrain to the chant is, "Sanguis bibimus, corpus edimus, tolle corpus Satani" (ungrammatical Latin for, "We drink the blood, we eat the flesh, raise the body of Satan"; note that the correct Latin would be, "Sanguinem bibimus, corpus edimus, tolle corpus Satani"), interspersed with cries of "Ave Satani!" and "Ave Versus Christus" (Latin, "Hail, Satan!" and "Hail, Antichrist!"). Aside from the choral work, the score includes lyrical themes portraying the pleasant home life of the Thorn family, which are contrasted with the more disturbing scenes of the family's confrontation with evil.
