Varèse Sarabande Records has announced the June 2nd release of a 6-CD box set entitled Back In Time … 1985 At The Movies.  The collection features over six and a half hours of music from iconic 1985 films including Academy Award®-winning and nominated scores, music from all of the top 10 box office hits, and a compilation of smash hit songs all from the year.  The set comes in an exquisite deluxe gatefold LP package design with an originally commissioned cover painting by A Nightmare on Elm Street artist Matthew Joseph Peak.  Housed in the package is a 24-page booklet with extensive liner notes by album producer Robert Townson and exclusive photographs from the premiere Varèse Sarabande Symphony Orchestra recording sessions held on the historic Newman Scoring Stage at 20th Century Fox.  The 6-CD set has a suggested retail price of $99.98.

The 1980s were a fun, exciting time in pop culture... and especially at the movies!  1985 in particular was a cultural lynchpin for a whole generation.  We traveled through time in Back to the Future, hunted for treasure with The Goonies and hung out with friends in St. Elmo’s Fire.  Music was always part of the adventure; the film scores of Jerry Goldsmith, John Barry and Alan Silvestri, and hit songs by Oingo Boingo, Tina Turner and Brian Ferry instantly conjured up the characters we love from their movies.

Now 30 years later, music fans can re-experience music from Back To the Future, Out of Africa, The Goonies, The Color Purple, A View To A Kill, Danny Elfman’s Pee Wee’s Big Adventure, and Elmer Bernstein’s newly remastered The Black Cauldron.  Also featured are selections of original songs by artists including Oingo Boingo, Wang Chung, Lionel Richie, Bryan Ferry, and Tina Turner.

For fans who will be in the Los Angeles-area on June 11, Varèse Sarabande is offering a special package Back In Time... 1985 The Concert Experience, which includes a pair of VIP-seating concert tickets, access to the private concert after party and meet-and-greet with the composers in attendance, and a copy of the 6-CD Back In Time…1985 At The Movies set available at
