FILM FEST GENT AND BRUSSELS PHILHARMONIC PRESENT ALAN SILVESTRI

Supported by the Gent’s World Soundtrack Awards, this is the second release from the series and first on Silva Screen Records. Each year a major film music composer is invited to present their work during the annual World Soundtrack Awards Ceremony & Concert closing event. As part of the celebrations Film Fest Gent and partner Brussels Philharmonic record a CD of their music and this year’s guest of honour is Alan Silvestri.

Silvestri comments: “With their magnificent hearts, minds, voices, and hands Maestro Brossé, The Flemish Radio Choir, and The Brussels Philharmonic have given me the thrill of a lifetime. Simply wonderful!!!”

Alan Silvestri made his name as house composer for director Bob Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Forrest Gump). Versatile and “old-school”, Silvestri has maintained a high level of invention in his scores and has proved capable of moving effortlessly between genres - action, thriller, fantasy, comedy and horror. From Jazz and silent movie pastiche to delicate piano themes and brassy orchestrations with driving percussion and blasting brass, Silvestri regards his ongoing duty to “help realize the director’s vision”. Up to present, Silvestri has written over a hundred of varied film scores including Predator, The Mummy Returns, Cast Away, the Avengers, The Quick and The Dead and has worked with top film directors Sam Raimi, James Cameron, Joss Whedon.

Award winning composer and conductor Dirk Brossé, is currently Music Director of The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, Music Director of the Film Festival Ghent and Music Director and principal conductor of the Star Wars in Concert World Tour.

The Brussels Philharmonic was founded in 1935 by the Belgian public broadcaster (NIR/INR). The orchestra enjoys an excellent reputation for performing premieres of new works and has collaborated with world renowned composers such as Bartók, Stravinsky, Messiaen and Francesconi. It also gained an international reputation in film music and for the performance and recording of soundtracks it regularly partners with Galaxy Studios and Film Fest Gent. International recognition has come, among others, in the form of the Oscar-winning score for The Artist (music by Ludovic Bource).
