Lakeshore Records: "PHYSICAL" Season 1 music by Isabella Summers

Lakeshore Records is set to release the soundtrack for the first season of “Physical,” the Apple Original Series created by Annie Weisman and starring Rose Byrne.  The series is awash in a glorious synth score by Emmy-nominated Isabella Summers (the “Machine” in Florence and the Machine) whose past work includes “Little Fires Everywhere,” Panic” as well as the forthcoming ‘Sex/Life.”  The music provides both a high energy as well as a menacing backdrop to the dark comedy.  Physical Season 1—Apple TV+ Original Series Soundtrack is available digitally today, June 18, and the series is now streaming globally on Apple TV+.

Set in the idyllic but fragile beach paradise of sunny 1980s San Diego, “Physical” is a half-hour dark comedy following Sheila Rubin, a quietly tortured, seemingly dutiful housewife supporting her smart but controversial husband’s bid for state assembly. But behind closed doors, Sheila has her own darkly funny take on life she rarely lets the world see. She’s also battling a complex set of personal demons relating to her self-image… that is, until she finds release through the unlikeliest source: the world of aerobics.

At first hooked on the exercise itself, Sheila’s real road to empowerment comes when she discovers a way to merge this newfound passion with the burgeoning technology of videotape to start a revolutionary business. The series tracks her epic journey from a stifled, overlooked enabler to a powerful, confident economic force, as Sheila transforms into someone we take for granted today (but was entirely radical at the time) — the female lifestyle guru.

Says Summers: “What a ride scoring Sheila’s headspace. Out of control and spinning her inner monologue was just so delicious to compose -- a mixture of 70s pots and pans and a journey of rock and roll and screeching synths. I channeled Vangelis as much as possible towards the end.”

Isabella (the Machine) Summers, is best known as the architect behind the sound of Florence and the Machine.

Isabella spent 14 years writing, producing, touring, composing and refining her anthemic cinematic sound before taking the successful leap from pop music and transitioning into an incredibly talented and exciting composer for film and television.

After successfully contributing to the score of Sam Levinson's ‘Assassination Nation’ Isabella then went on to score Little Fires Everywhere for Hulu, earning her an Emmy nomination in 2020.

Whilst creating the main theme for Sky's Riviera, Isabella teamed up with Brian Kim to score Panic!

Isabella is currently composing her fourth and fifth series for Apple TV & Netflix with her next show scheduled for release on Amazon this spring 2021.

In addition to composing for multiple TV shows & film, Isabella is finishing work on her much anticipated debut solo record. The record is set to be a collection of Isabella’s finest work crossing genres between her signature anthemic pop roots into soaring cinematic orchestral masterpieces destined for the big screen.
