Milan Records: "BETTY: SEASON 2" music by Aska Matsumiya

Milan Records and HBO® today release BETTY – SEASON 2 (HBO® ORIGINAL SERIES SOUNDTRACK) with music by composer ASKA MATSUMIYA.  Available everywhere now, the album features score music written by Matsumiya for the second season of the HBO’s original series following a group of female skateboarders in New York City and based on Crystal Moselle’s 2018 film Skate Kitchen.  The soundtrack is the latest in a long creative partnership between Matsumiya and Moselle, the duo having originally worked together on Skate Kitchen as well as Betty’s Season 1 Original Soundtrack.  Season 2 of Betty is now airing on HBO and is available to stream on HBO Max.

Of the soundtrack, composer ASKA MATSUMIYA says, “Writing the music for Betty allowed me to be in touch with a side of myself that remains youthful and raw and spontaneous.  It was really so much fun and I tried to let that momentum carry the music.”

In Betty, a diverse group of young women navigates their lives through the male-dominated world of skateboarding in New York City.  Starring Dede Lovelace, Moonbear, Nina Moran, Ajani Russell, and Rachelle Vinberg, from Crystal Moselle’s original film Skate Kitchen.

Aska Matsumiya is a LA based Japanese composer and producer who has excelled across film, television, advertising and music production. In 2020 Aska composed the score for the Amazon feature film I'm Your Woman for director Julia Hart, and has recently partnered with A24 and acclaimed director Kogonada on his film After Yang, collaborating with composer Ryuichi Sakamoto.  After Yang has just been selected for the 2021 Cannes Film Festival. She is currently scoring Bruised for Netflix, a directorial feature debut by Academy Award® winner Halle Berry.

In Television, Aska worked on the HBO limited series Betty with longtime collaborator Crystal Moselle, a series based on the original Sundance breakout film Skate Kitchen starring Jaden Smith, which has just premiered its second season.

Aska has collaborated with countless brands in the advertising space, including Porsche, Chanel, Hermes, Miu Miu & Prada, and also scored the short film I'm Here for Spike Jonze, and alongside her work for screen is currently working on a series of sound installations.
