GORILLA INTERRUPTED is a different kind of good!

Let me just start off by stating that I am a huge fan the guys over at RedletterMedia.com.  I love their review shows HALF IN THE BAG, BEST OF THE WORST and the extremely insightful/hilarious PLINKETT REVIEWS.  The shows' creators Mike Stoklasa, Jay Bauman, and Rich Evans are three talented and funny individuals that bring something a little different to the Internet with their web series.  They have a bunch of short films on their website and occasionally put out a movie now and then.  I highly recommend FEEDING FRENZY.  They have been gracious enough to release their first movie they made back in the day called GORILLA INTERRUPTED.

GORILLA INTERRUPTED is about Ray Grabowski, a man who is turned into a gorilla by aliens.  With the help of his kind-of-sort-of friends Dex, Sid and Jar Jar Binks the four yahoos stop an alien invasion and fight the Devil for some reason.  It has "shot in the backyard with dad's camera" production values but the film has this strange crude energy that you don't get too often in comedies.   I was reminded of the show THE YOUNG ONES which I was excited to hear them mention on the commentary track. The story is strange and the humor is absurd but there are genuine moments of greatness that hint at the greater things that came afterward.  Click here to read the rest....

Lost Planet 3 - 2CD Alien Country Music and Score - Jack Wall [August 27th for Digital Download]

Lost Planet® 3 ‘Alien Country Music’ and ‘Score’
Double Album Available For Digital Download on Aug. 27

Los Angeles (August 23, 2013) – Award-winning composer Jack Wall will release the soundtrack for Capcom’s sci-fi action adventure video game Lost Planet® 3 on his label, Lost In Sound Records. Wall is best known for his rich, cinematic scores found within popular titles such as Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Mass Effect 1 & 2, Myst III & IV, Splinter Cell: Pandora’s Tomorrow and Jade Empire. Featuring 37 tracks composed and produced by Wall, the Lost Planet 3 Original Soundtrack comprises two volumes, ‘Alien Country Music’ and ‘Score’, which will be released as a single package for digital download on iTunes and Amazon to coincide with the game’s release on August 27, 2013.

The Lost Planet 3 Original Soundtrack is presented in two volumes to reflect the distinct musical approaches for the game’s soundtrack. Volume 1 features country and rock instrumentation combined with organic drum and percussion elements, infused with modern synthetic elements to create a country music of the future.

“When Spark and Capcom asked me to write alien country as roughly half of the soundtrack to Lost Planet 3, I was really intrigued,” enthuses Jack Wall. “It would be the main character’s mix tape. This is the music Jim Peyton listens to when he’s on mission in his rig – the music his wife Grace, back on Earth, sends him to remind him of home. The challenge was to make it real, but add just enough elements and context to make it seem like it is music from the future.”

As well as composing and producing the Alien Country Music, Wall performs acoustic, baritone and electric guitars on all the tracks. Joining him on this unique sci-fi musical adventure, Wall formed and recorded a band of celebrated artists including composer Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica) on accordion, guitarist Craig Stull (Firefly) on dobro guitar, drummer Joe Travers (Zappa Plays Zappa), vocalist Cindy Shapiro (Myst III: Exile), and cinema’s foremost harmonica player, Tommy Morgan, amongst other talented musicians. Key tracks include: “Rattlesnake,” “A Long Way Home,” “Ballad of Jim Peyton,” and “Outlaw.”

Presented as Volume 2, Wall’s cinematic score is a blend of sci-fi orchestral and acoustic themes, spine-tingling atmosphere, and synthesized ambient textures, which serves to support the game’s compelling narrative, mysterious environments and epic action sequences. Key tracks include: “Lost Planet 3 Theme,” “The Ice Planet,” “The Vorgg,” and “The Forgotten.”

“For me the score needed to be two things: mysterious and wild,” explains Wall. “If I could inject those ideas into the music for E.D.N III, I would be doing my job. I’m very excited by what we’ve put together for players. The script, acting and story seamlessly intertwine with this music to create a tangible world.”

The Lost Planet 3 soundtrack is available for digital download through Lost In Sound Records on August 27.

Sony Music/Masterworks: Tribute to Mario Lanza

SONY MASTERWORKS JOINS WITH TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES (TCM)
TO PRESENT NEW MARIO LANZA COLLECTION THE TOAST OF HOLLYWOOD

In conjunction with Turner Classic Movies (TCM), Sony Masterworks is proud to present The Toast of Hollywood, a new 2-CD set celebrating legendary tenor Mario Lanza’s extraordinary film and recording career, available on August 27, 2013.

Mario Lanza started out in the world of opera and the concert stage, but became an international star when his golden voice began to ring out from the celebrated soundstages of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. By shifting to film work, he believed he was bringing good music - and grand opera in particular – to more people through his movies than he could ever hope to from the classical stage.  Luminaries like Luciano Pavarotti, Renée Fleming and tenor Joseph Calleja tended to agree, each of them citing the tremendous impact Lanza’s groundbreaking film The Great Caruso had on their respective careers.  The Toast of Hollywood displays the full range of Lanza’s vocal brilliance in a glittering compilation of popular ballads, opera arias, classic show tunes, and jewels from the Great American Songbook, including six previously unreleased gems.

Update: Movie Score Media/Kronos Records - The 25th Reich (Ricky Edwards)

The 25th Reich is the first crossover score from newly formed score companies "Movie Score Media/Kronos Records" and we couldn't be more pleased.

The 25th Reich - Ricky Edwards

MMS13008/KRONCD021
Release date digital: July 30, 2013
Release date CD: September 17, 2013

Here is the update and information: GÖTEBORG, Sweden, August 20, 2013 | MovieScore Media/Kronos Records will release Ricky Edwards' fun, high-energy score to Stephen Amis's homage to classic B-movies, The 25th Reich, on CD. Based on the pulp novel 50,000 Years Until Tomorrow by sci-fi author J.J. Solomon, the film mixes the traditions of World War II adventures with elements of science-fiction – including the time travel of five American soldiers, who must battle Nazi robots and giant prehistoric animals while retrieving the ultimate super-weapon that can decide the war.

The score for The 25th Reich was written by Australian-born composer Ricky Edwards who has been working in the film music business since 1996. Edwards is the regular lead orchestrator for Oscar-nominated composer David Hirschfelder, contributing to titles such as Shine (1996), Australia (2008) and Legend of the Guardians (2010). Edwards' own scoring commissions include the hit Australian shows H2O: Just Add Water (2006-10) and The Elephant Princess (2008-11).

The score to The 25th Reich is headlined by a superb march hinting at the dark forces at play, including a B-section that foreshadows the strong sci-fi elements to the story. Key action tracks include ‘That Ain’t No Puma!’ for the reveal of the giant fauna while ‘Attack of the 25th Reich’ offers an epic 8+ minutes long composition for the final battle. Like the film itself, the score is a delicious homage to classic war movies intertwined with nods to your favorite B-movie classics and timeless creature features!

The 25th Reich is the first title to be released by the joint venture of MovieScore Media/Kronos Records, two European soundtrack specialty labels who announced their deal in late August 2013. “We are excited to work together on this first of many CD releases featuring exciting contemporary film music. Ricky Edwards' score for The 25th Reich is a very entertaining score which lovingly flirts with film music history in a way that makes it perfect for the premiere CD release under the unique collaboration between MovieScore Media and Kronos Records", said MSM founder Mikael Carlsson.

Intrada: ABC'S REVENGE - iZLER

REVENGE
Music by: iZLER
INTRADA MAF 7128

For two seasons, iZLER – a Czech-born, English-raised composer and multi-instrumentalist – has made Revenge into a musically-driven show that Variety described as containing "smoky, elaborate film noir-inspired compositions."  One of the distinctive characteristics of iZLER's score for this compelling series is his use of themes performed by a 50-piece orchestra.  Both are becoming a rarity in television, but thanks to the foresight of ABC Studios and an understanding of the impact of acoustic music, iZLER's music elevates the show to a higher emotional level. As iZLER comments in the liner notes, "Although orchestra samples have really gotten pretty good these days, they will never be able to replicate the emotion of that one great performance from real, world class musicians. The unquantifiable final touch that real musicians add to a score is what transforms it from simply an idea into emotion, that at its best, can truly elevate whatever you’re watching unfold on screen."  For this release, iZLER has compiled music from both Season One and Season Two to deliver a knock-out album that musically brings the show to life...even if you're not watching it.

In Revenge, beneath the luxurious lifestyle of the Hamptons, lies a dark, dirty secret and a twisted tale of passion, suspense, and ultimate redemption. Wealth, beauty, and power define the residents of New York's most exclusive community, but one woman will stop at nothing to exact revenge from those who ruined her father's life. Witness Emily Thorne's (Emily VanCamp) brilliantly vindictive plot against Victoria Grayson (Madeleine Stowe), the reigning queen of the Hamptons, and all who destroyed her family. However, even the best-laid plans can unravel in the wake of an unexpected love triangle between Emily, the son of her greatest nemesis, and a forgotten face from her past.

This album is timed with the release of Season Two on DVD and Blu-Ray.  For more details click here.  And don't miss season three of Revenge, which premieres on Sunday, Sept 29th at 9/8c on ABC.

Intrada: PARADISE / CAN'T BUY ME LOVE

PARADISE
Music by: DAVID NEWMAN

CAN'T BUY ME LOVE
Music by: ROBERT FOLK

INTRADA Special Collection Vol. 251

In the 1991 film Paradise, Willard Young (Elijah Wood) spends the summer with Ben and Lily Reed (Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith), a bitter fisherman and his numb (but kind) wife who recently lost their infant son—causing thick tension in their farmhouse. Willard finds a friend in neighbor Billie (Thora Birch) and, spurred by her friendship and the love he develops for the Reeds, begins to challenge his own fears—and provides warmth enough to thaw the ice between Ben and Lily. Composer David Newman provided rich Americana writing with an emphasis on transparent ideas and dramatic melodies for the film.  As Variety writer Lawrence Cohn wrote,  “David Newman’s warm musical score is a key contribution.” Newman responded to the story with a poignant theme for Willard, introduced first on piano over oscillating strings, then blossoming on celli.  The melody’s orchestration adapts to its purposes in the story, from young Willard’s wide-eyed bus trip to Lily and Willard’s budding friendship. The score is a rich, emotional experience, ranking as one of Newman's finest works.

Robert Folk's score to Can’t Buy Me Love plays in contrast with an emphasis on breezy melodic lines with hints of subtle dramatic content. In the film, Ronald Miller (Patrick Dempsey) is a victim of the high school popularity game. Though he’s intelligent, funny, and a hard worker, he’s nothing but dorky “Donald” to his dream girl, cheerleader Cindy Mancini (Amanda Peterson). Ronald has been mowing lawns all summer to save money for a telescope, but when he sees a distraught Cindy trying to replace her mom’s expensive suede suit at the mall, he offers to “rent” her for a month, and in return for his thousand dollars she’ll play the part of his doting girlfriend. In her desperation she agrees, and Ronald’s theory proves true—even to the point of winning Cindy’s feelings—until his new status goes to his head and his shallow shortcut hits a shattering dead end.

Using strings for emotion, Folk assigned a lot of the score to radio-friendly instruments like guitar, bass, synth, harmonica, and a rhythm section. The main theme bounces and rocks initially as Ronald enjoys his new-found popularity, waxes romantic as Cindy begins to fall for him, and bemoans his state as he loses Cindy and his status. His banishment to social “Siberia” is accompanied by a hangdog harmonica tune with rock accompaniment and percussion.

Both scores are presented complete on this limited edition from Intrada.

MovieScore Media: THE 25th REICH - Ricky Edwards

THE 25th REICH
Music by: Ricky Edwards

Released By: MOVIESCORE MEDIA

A homage to the classic war and science fiction B-movies of the 1940s and 50s, The 25th Reich tells the story about Hitler’s secret weapon – a spaceship fleet (!) – and the five American agents on a mission to stop the nazi space invasion! Based on the novel 50,000 Years Until Tomorrow by sci-fi pulp writer J.J. Solomon, the film features such spectacular events as time-travels, big battle scenes, evil creatures and mind-boggling robots.

Providing a lot of energy and witty charm to the story is the old-fashioned score by Ricky Edwards, an Australian composer whose other credits include orchestrating the scores for The Bank Job, Baz Luhrmann’s Australia and Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole. He was also the assistant musical director and performed music in the Oscar-winning Scott Hicks’ movie Shine. Among the many highlights on MovieScore Media’s album is the infectious ’25th Reich March’ and the exciting action tracks ‘That Ain’t No Puma!’ and ‘Attack of the 25th Reich’.

Wait what you are saying... it's spaceships and science fiction? How could you go wrong? Ricky Edwards pays his own homage by giving us the war angle... then dabbles into the unknown reaches of outer space. It has all the elements for a great score, you really need to check it out. Bravo!

Inspired by famous artist Norman Rockwell’s original 1950 painting “Shuffleton’s Barbershop”, this original Hallmark television movie features Danny Glover, Austin Stowell and Kayla Ewell in a story about a famous country singer who returns home hoping to find guidance and reconciliation.

The splendid soundtrack features Emmy-nominated composer Lawrence Shragge’s beautiful original score – a wonderful piece of understated Americana – and a number of original country songs, some of which are performed by the cast. Shragge’s score, which resembles the sensitive drama scoring of Thomas Newman, shimmers with celestial layers of strings and slide guitar and guitar-based melodies. We would not be surprised if this score results in the composer’s third Emmy nomination!

MovieScore Media and Kronos Records "Join Forces"

Prolific soundtrack label MovieScore Media, based in Sweden, and quality niche label Kronos Records, based in Malta, have reached an agreement to collaborate in the fields of producing and distributing quality film score albums to both wider audiences and targeting the special soundtrack collectors market. “We are two small independent European labels growing strong together, building a new and solid platform for the nurturing of contemporary quality film music as well as never before released classic film scores,” said MovieScore Media’s producer, Mikael Carlsson. Added Kronos Records’ Godwin Borg, “This is the beginning of a very fruitful collaboration. Expect some true gems to come out of this teamwork!”

The two labels' goal with their collaboration is to build one of the most prolific soundtrack catalogues in Europe, focusing their attention on quality film scores from both new and old films, both from Europe, USA and other parts of the world.

The deal will result in more of MovieScore Media’s albums being released on CDs, while more of Kronos Records’ albums will also be available in digital format. “We take advantage of each others’ distribution niches,” said Mikael Carlsson and continued, “While MovieScore Media has released almost 150 albums on CD, many of our releases have been digital only. Our collaboration with Kronos Records will make more physical releases possible.”

CDs under this new joint label will be marketed as MovieScore Media/Kronos Records releases. Titles will be available from both labels and their respective distributors, where MovieScore Media focuses its distribution on wider audiences (via distributors RSK Entertainment in the United Kingdom, MVD Entertainment in the USA and Canada and Edel in Germany) and Kronos Records targeting the soundtrack fan base via special film music retailers worldwide. Albums are distributed digitally via MovieScore Media to all digital platforms worldwide, including iTunes, Amazon, eMusic, Spotify and Google Play.

Among the CD releases announced and to be available from MovieScore Media/Kronos shortly are The Tall Man (Todd Bryanton/Joel Douek/Christopher Young) and Half Light (Brett Rosenberg), both previously released digitally by MovieScore Media, as well as all new releases such as Trishna (Shigeru Umebayashi), The 25th Reich (Ricky Edwards) and Big Bad Wolves (Frank Ilfman).

MovieScore Media and its sub-label Screamworks Records have released over 200 soundtrack albums since the launch of the company in 2006. Among the many acclaimed albums in the catalogue are soundtracks for Let the Right One In (Johan Soderqvist), Pandorum (Michl Britsch), Centurion (Ilan Eshkeri), Conquest 1453 (Benjamin Wallfisch), four volumes of Merlin (Rob Lane et al), Triangle (Christian Henson), Submarine (Andrew Hewitt), JCVD (Gast Waltzing), Black Death (Christian Henson), In a Better World (Johan Söderqvist) and The Awakening (Daniel Pemberton). In its ‘Discovery Collection’, MovieScore Media has released world premiere recordings of scores by esteemed composers such as Michael Kamen, Basil Poledouris, Patrick Doyle and Dario Marianelli.

In 2012, an album released by MovieScore Media’s sub-label Screamworks Records, The Shrine (music by Ryan Shore), was nominated for a Grammy Award in the ‘Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media’ category. MovieScore Media has been nominated to the International Film Music Critics Association Award for ‘Film Music Record Label of the Year’ six years in a row.

Kronos Records has been releasing quality film music since 2009 and has music composed by film music legends such as Akira Ifukube, Francesco De Masi, Carlo Rustichelli, Piero Piccioni, and George Fenton in its catalogue. Much like MovieScore Media, Kronos is also active in the field of discovering and promoting new talented composers, such as André Matthias, Jorge Aliaga and Kristian Sensini.

Two great entities become one, wonderful news for score/soundtrack enthusiasts in the world!

Lakeshore Records: Ain't Them Bodies Saint [2013] - Daniel Hart

Lakeshore Records will release the AIN’T THEM BODIES SAINTS – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack digitally on August 13, 2013.   The album features original music by Daniel Hart with songs performed by Curtis Heath, Greg Schroeder with Mara Lee Miller, Aaron Kyle, and the film’s Keith Carradine.

“We talked a lot about what kind of instrumentation he had in mind, and I talked to him about what I had in mind after reading the script,” said Hart of his conversation with the film’s writer/director David Lowery. Hart began writing as the film shooting and as they were editing and he was being sent rough cuts he would send music to Lowery.

“We found a couple of key pieces that seemed to work really well for the film, but they both involved a lot of strings and lot of hand claps and knee slaps, sort of body percussion,” he continued. “We spent a lot of time working that into the rest of film and developing that into themes that can be used throughout for various characters and for various scenes.”

Brought to life with exquisite detail and rich cinematography by Bradford Young (winner of the US Dramatic Cinematography Award at Sundance), the gritty landscape of 1970s Texas Hill Country is the backdrop for this mood-drenched collision of love and crime. After his pregnant wife (Rooney Mara) makes one false move during a bloody shootout, a bank robber (Casey Affleck) faces a 25-year sentence that destroys his dreams of a family life. Shot through with the yearning and melancholy of a folk ballad, David Lowery’s directorial breakthrough—one of the most acclaimed films at Sundance and a special Critics’ Week selection at Cannes—extends the Bonnie and Clyde tradition with its breathtaking meditation on the fragility and transience of love.

Milan Records: Short Term 12 [2013] - Joel P. West

Short Term 12 [2013]
Music by: Joel P. West

Released By: MILAN RECORDS

Short Term 12 is a 2013 American independent drama film written and directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, based on his short film of the same title and starring Brie Larson, John Gallagher, Jr., and Kaitlyn Dever. The film premiered at the 2013 SXSW Film Festival, where it won both the Grand Jury Narrative Feature Award and the Narrative Audience Award. Critical response to the film has been overwhelmingly positive, calling it "a roller coaster of every emotion, managing to be both heartwarming and heartrending at once". The film will be released theatrically in the United States on August 23, 2013.

Short Term 12 is told through the eyes of Grace (Brie Larson), a twenty- something supervisor at a foster-care facility for at-risk teenagers. Passionate and tough, Grace is a formidable caretaker of the kids in her charge – and in love with her long-term boyfriend and co-worker, Mason (John Gallagher Jr.)

But Grace’s own difficult past – and the surprising future that suddenly presents itself – throw her into unforeseen confusion, made all the sharper with the arrival of a new intake at the facility – Jayden (Kaitlyn Dever), a gifted but troubled teenage girl with whom Grace has a charged connection.

She and Mason also struggle to help Marcus (Keith Stanfield) – an intense, quiet kid who is about to turn 18 – manage through the difficulty of having to leave the facility. Grace comes to find – in both her work and the new teenager in her care – surprising sources of redemption. And while the subject matter is complex and often dark, this lovingly realized film finds truth – and humor – in unexpected places.

Not heard of this film, the soundtrack is subtle and sways in a nice direction... how it will play within the film, I am very sure it will mesh accordingly. By itself it feels right on a empty sky sitting in the field, taking very deep breaths... Joel P. West the composer hangs in the distance sharing his music with us.

Intrada: Once Upon a Time - Season II - Mark Isham

ONCE UPON A TIME - SEASON II
Music Composed and Produced by MARK ISHAM

Intrada proudly announces the release of Once Upon a Time - Season Two, following up its previous release to season one. For the sophomore year, composer Mark Isham took the musical concepts he established in the first season and weaved them into the ever growing magical (and non-magical) worlds.  New themes for new characters, a new musical language for a post-curse Storybrooke and more crossovers between realms leads to a bigger, more expansive score.  And to round out this new volume is the premiere of the very brief, yet powerful main title.

Over an hour of music from Season Two is assembled into a magical musical experience that perfectly complements the first album.
Season Two picks up where season one left off -- the curse is broken, magic has arrived and now the exiled fairytale characters must grapple with a flood of awakened memories as they come to grips with their new "reality." Old loyalties are tested, new heroes emerge, and vengeful villains wreak havoc. This release coincides with the DVD and Blu-ray release of Season Two, now available "HERE".  And don't miss season three of Once Upon a Time, which premieres on Sunday, Sept 29th at 8/7c on ABC.

Released By: MILAN RECORDS

After the disappearance of her mother (Lena Headey), Clary must join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures. Based on the worldwide best-selling book series.

Not only does this look like a great film, the score just blew me away... and I love score music you all know that it's rare for me to just like something 100%. Atli Örvarsson has done it again taking us to worlds we have never seen, sweeping us away in every chorus and brings the tension forward. I have been a fan of this composer since the release of the film with Vin Diesel "Babylon A.D." and for me I took the score for being the best part of that film. Look for this and his other releases this year "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters " and "Evidence" both covered here. This is one of my top three score this year... it will be my "got to" score when I need to hear great music! Bravo Atli Örvarsson, bravo!

AMC's "Low Winter Sun" - Score By Composer Tyler Bates

AMC’S NEW DRAMA LOW WINTER SUN
WILL FEATURE ORIGINAL MUSIC BY TYLER BATES

AMERICAN R and B LEGEND, BETTYE LaVETTE, PERFORMS MAIN TITLE THEME,
CO-WRITTEN BY BATES, LaVETTE AND SHOW RUNNER CHRIS MUNDY

------------------
(August 9, 2013– Los Angeles, CA) – AMC’s new drama, “Low Winter Sun,” which is co-produced by Endemol Studios and AMC Studios, premieres on AMC Sunday, August 11 at 10:00pm ET/PT, will feature original music by composer Tyler Bates (Watchmen, TV’s Californication, God of War Ascension video game) and a performance by American R&B legend, Bettye LaVette.   The series, set in Detroit, features the new song “Hustlin’ In The Motor City,” co-written by Bates, Nan Vernon, series creator Chris Mundy, and Detroit soul legend Bettye LaVette who performs the song for the main title sequence.

For ”Low Winter Sun” Bates matched the gritty themes with a gritty sonic palette to heighten the tension of the story. Bates wrote a large volume of music during production – essentially creating a music library that the show’s editors have worked with from the beginning of post-production.  This approach has been Bates’ modus operandi in effort to shape the feel and pacing of the series with its distinctive sound.

“Tyler is a creative force in the music industry and the perfect choice to provide the gritty, edgy score that ‘Low Winter Sun’ needed,” said Chris Mundy.  “I loved working with him on the main title theme and think he did a fantastic job on the whole series, echoing each character’s struggle musically.”

Six Strings with... Bruno Valenti

I wanted to thank Bruno for chatting with us today, he is a rising talented composer and is a name that we will all know in the coming years and you can say... I am glad to know him. You know I am right now!
-Jeremy [Retro]

-How did you come to be in this field of work and being it for sometime what is some of your favorite moments or projects?

Bruno Valenti: Well, I guess this is something that comes from my childhood. I always loved watching films and playing games. When I started my career as musician, it was a day when I suddenly discovered all the magic that music could bring to films and told myself, this is something I want to do the rest of my life!
About my favorite moment, it is definitely when the music is played with a real orchestra. I mean, I really enjoy the creative process working with my computer but when the music it's played by musicians it just comes to life!

-With a mix of scores under your credits would you prefer game or film/television work?

Bruno Valenti: It's a hard question to answer but considering that games nowadays are so cinematic, I would say that it depends on the quality and the story behind the project. I think that the main function of music is to drive the story, so as long as it's good, that is the only important thing to me.

-You are currently working with some of the top names in composing today, who are you working and don't be afraid to name drop?

Bruno Valenti: Well, I have the great opportunity of collaborating with Christopher Young on some of his projects. He is a really talented person but his talent has no comparison with how good of person he is.
Talking about musical talent, there are not too many composers nowadays that still focus so much on themes and melodic stuff like he does.

-Where do you see yourself or where would you like to be in this field of composing say at points of 5 and 10 years?

Bruno Valenti: Well, I think we are all looking for success and when I mean "all", I mean "all human beings" in general but to be completely honest with you, my concept of success has changed a lot in these last years. I think that anyone that is doing what he/she really loves to do is already a successful person. Success is more related to the present than to the future from my point of view.

-With a mix of scores under your credits do you prefer film or television work, which gives you the best feeling of success?

Bruno Valenti: Like I said, it's more a matter of quality of film or television work than if it is film or television work. To be more specific in the answer, I would say that Film Scoring in general is about EMOTIONS for me. If the project is emotional enough, then it works.

-Where does a typical day begin and end for you, are there typical days?

Bruno Valenti: There are not typical days for sure. That is another thing about doing what you love to do. You don't feel you are really working! The main problem with the Film Scoring business in general is deadlines. Since music is the last process in the whole production, they are waiting for you and that can generate a lot of pressure. The good thing is that sometimes pressure is turned into inspiration and that ends being helpful for the music.

-Bonus: Which would you prefer full or digital orchestrations and can you achieve the same level to grab in your listening audience?

Bruno Valenti: Definitely full orchestrations. The quality of digital orchestrations has improved a lot in the last years so you can really achieve great results with computers but will never be comparable with the energy that real musicians can give to your music. The imperfection of human beings makes it perfect.

BIO: Bruno Valenti has been working in the music industry for more than 12 years.  His passion in music includes composing original music for films, television and other form of media , internationally. Bruno studied Film Scoring and Orchestration in the prestigious Berklee College of Music.  He also studied in the Film Music Institute with  Steven Scott Smalley (orchestrator of Batman, Mission Impossible, Robocop, Judge Dredd and many others). After that, Bruno studied Film Scoring in UCLA where he got advanced Film Scoring and orchestral conducting techniques. Bruno's influences are wide and diverse.  He currently collaborates with renowned composer, Christopher Young, on his various projects while he develops his own career.

Sony Music: Kick-Ass 2 Soundtrack

SONY MUSIC RELEASES
KICK-ASS 2

Digitally Available August 13
CD Available August 20

Brand-New Tracks By Jessie J, James Flannigan, DJ Fresh And Lemon
For The Super-Hero Action Comedy Film

Sony Music is pleased to announce the release of the  Kick-Ass 2 Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. Featuring new music by Jessie J, James Flannigan, DJ Fresh, Lemon and others, the soundtrack is available via all digital service providers on August 13 and on CD August 20.

The first Kick-Ass film became an irreverent global hit when it was released in 2010 – and Kick-Ass 2 follows in its footsteps, with the music to match, thanks to a pop compilation that sparkles from start to finish.

The 14 tracks make the music as eventful as the film, with several completely new numbers. “Yeah Yeah” by James Flannigan is an instrumental track with a driving beat that sets the pace right from the start. Flannigan is known as the voice of the British pop-rock band The Stiff Dylans, who came to fame in 2008 with their hit "Ultraviolet" from the film Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging. “Motherquake” by DJ Fresh is another new track, first released on this compilation. The dubstep and drum-and-bass musician DJ Fresh, who had a number-one hit in the British charts Louder (with singer Sian Evans), here adds contrast to the heavy rock tracks in a quirky number with high vocals. A further new track is “Pussydrop”, catchy pop to dance to, spiced up with hints of hip hop, by the rising star Lemon, whose big voice and hot dancing are attracting attention.

THE WOLVERINE is Clawless!

I have been reading a lot of praise lately for the new Wolverine movie referring to it as the Wolverine movie we have always wanted.  I got to tell ya, folks.  I completely disagree.  Many will argue that X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE was terrible while overlooking the many more faults the new WOLVERINE has.  Dare I say that ORIGINS is a better film than the new.  Maybe that is going a little too far.  Nah, screw it.  ORIGINS is a better film overall.  While ORIGINS did screw up a lot of Wolverine's back story it did at least have a story you could follow with a strong villain and characters like Wolverine and Sabertooth that had some chemistry together.  Liev Schreiber was fantastic.  THE WOLVERINE has none of that.    Be aware of possible spoilers ahead.

THE WOLVERINE begins in World War 2 with our title character being held captive in a Japanese P.O.W. camp.  Yashida, a Japanese officer is releasing all the prisoners knowing that an atomic bomb is about to be dropped on them.  Wolverine saves the officer from the bomb blast and all the radiation somehow.  Decades later the now old Yashida is dying and seeks Wolverine to give him a gift.  That gift, it turns out, is the ability to take away Wolverine's X-Factor and give it to someone else.  After rejecting that offer because its stupid, Wolverine gets tangled up in the family drama and ends up saving Mariko, the granddaughter of Yashida from a bunch of bad guys and ninjas and stuff.  Oh, and they manage to stop Wolverine from using his healing abilities so now he is vulnerable to bullets, sharp pointy objects and harsh language.  CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING...
