The 1995 horror film Raging Angels is filled with an atmosphere of churning and slashing evil that fights intensely to triumph over the innocence of a teenage couple. The film's foreboding undercurrent inspired composer Terry Plumeri to establish this evil from the opening note of the main title and further escalating this darkness through a gothic and expansive choir, superimposed over rhythmically driven instrumental voices. In contrast to this foreboding environment, Plumeri chose a less complex musical setting for the love theme associated with the characters of Chris and Lila. The accompaniment is string orchestra, with the solo voice of acoustic guitar, beautifully played by Federico Ramos. Another notable performance in the score is that of French actress, Arielle Dombasle (Megan), whose beautiful voice appears performing a traditional demonic incantation from the 15th century.

The story of Raging Angels centers on floundering musician Chris D’Amico (Sean Patrick Flanery), who has wrestled with the demons of alcoholism and a rocky relationship with girlfriend Lila (Monet Mazur). Things get even more complicated when she auditions to sing backup for Gramercy (Michael Paré), a fast-rising rock star and spokesperson for the Coalition for World Unity. This cult-like organization promotes a future built upon a single government—made up of the wisest people humanity has to offer. Sounds good, doesn't it?

open sequences, with no sound but the wind.

There was little dialogue, no cars crashing or people slamming doors

to get in the way of the music.  --Henry Mancini

For the 1974 Paramount film The White Dawn, composer Henry Mancini composed one of his most unique scores, creating an engrossing experience that is by turns both lyrical and savage. Woodwinds predominate, with flutes bringing an earthy, mystical quality. He uses reeds, often dissonant and coming from the orchestra’s lower register, to ominous effect. When bowed strings appear, they usually accompany the character of Daggett, emphasizing his romantic outlook on the world. Brass, when not in a seafaring vein, typically convey aggression and hostility. In addition to the ever-present drums, Mancini makes frequent use of mallet percussion, and enhances the score’s dreamlike character with electronics and instruments such as autoharp and waterphone.Two additional themes are of particular importance:the first is a gentle, almost childlike tune that seems to represent innocence and joy and the second is a fragile love theme.

For this release, Intrada had access to the complete score in mono stored in perfect condition and presented here in its debut. Previously only a handful of selections had been rerecorded by Mancini, a selection of which was integrated into the score to The Right Stuff.

The White Dawn tells the tale of three American whalers, shipwrecked in 1896 off the coast of Northern Canada, who are nursed back to health and taken in by a group of nomadic Eskimos. Billy (Warren Oates) is ornery and resentful, thinking only of escape and exploitation. Daggett (Timothy Bottoms) winds up embracing the native culture, and falls in love with a young woman named Neevee (Pilitak). Portagee (Louis Gossett Jr.) is somewhere in between. Eskimo leader Sarkak freely provides the men with food, shelter and women. But this foundation gradually erodes. Cultural differences widen into major rifts. As the tensions begin to boil over, the story ends in a shocking episode of violence.

Not sure what it is, he takes it as a sign to get a head start on his resolutions: being better son to his mother (Octavia Spencer), whose birthday falls on New Year's Eve, being a better partner to his girlfriend Sophina (Melonie Diaz), who he hasn't been completely honest with as of late, and being a better father to Tatiana (Ariana Neal), their beautiful four year-old daughter. Crossing paths with friends, family and strangers, Oscar starts out well, as the day goes on, he realizes that changes are not going to come easily. His resolve takes a tragic turn, however, when BART officers shoot him in cold blood at the Fruitvale subway stop on New Year's Day. Oscar's life and tragic death would shake the Bay Area - and the entire nation - to its very core.

Director Shane Salerno contributed a thoughtful liner note in the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack package. There he explains, “I was extremely fortunate to have Lorne serve as the composer of Salinger. He is the only person I ever wanted for the job.” He adds, “Lorne’s work has become an integral part of the film, creating emotional themes, rhythms, moods and grace notes that are as important as any scene, photograph, or story in the film. It is a score as complex as Salinger himself and required a composer with extraordinary sensitivity and range.”

Additional notes in the soundtrack are contributed by Balfe himself. The composer explains, “to have been invited to be a part of Salinger was an honor.” Writing the perfect musical backdrop for SALINGER was no easy task. Balfe explains, “Because of the array of emotions to musically compliment in Salinger – not to mention the decades Salinger’s story spanned – it was a very complicated job for a composer. The secretive nature of the film, though exciting, also made scoring the film particularly difficult. Even during scoring there were numerous scenes that I was not allowed to see.”

Pictures’ release starring Oscar® nominees Hugh Jackman (“Les Misérables”) and Jake Gyllenhaal (“Brokeback Mountain”), and directed by Denis Villeneuve (the Oscar®-nominated “Incendies”). The film was scored by acclaimed Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson. The album will be available at all digital retailers, and a CD will be made available through Amazon.com.  The soundtrack will also be released on vinyl via Jóhannsson’s own NTOV Records label this October.

Jóhannsson and Villeneuve decided to try something radical for the soundtrack. “Denis wanted the music to be a poetic voice that worked in counterpoint to the action of the film,” Jóhannsson says. “Even though the film is a thriller, the music is lyrical and beautiful, in stark contrast to the intensity that the film depicts.” Jóhannsson composed the score watching an early cut of the film, reacting to the images on screen.

Carmine Coppola’s lush epic Hollywood vintage style score to Francis Ford Coppola's 1983 teen gang movie. Based on S.E. Hinton's novel, The Outsiders featured a group of young actors destined for stardom - Matt Dillon, Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze, Emilio Estevez and Tom Cruise.

The score to the film was written by Francis Coppola's father Carmine who contributed music for all three Godfather films, and sharing an Academy Award for Part II with Nino Rota. This 30th anniversary re-mastered edition is the most complete version of the soundtrack and contains much unreleased music from the film, most notably Stevie Wonder's tender and beguiling ballad “Stay Gold.” The poster inlay contains an extensive essay on the music to the film based on interviews with those involved including Francis Ford Coppola.

(September 16, 2013 – Culver City, CA) On September 15, 2013, composer Bear McCreary earned his first Emmy® Award for the Main Title Theme for DA VINCI’S DEMONS at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles. McCreary had been nominated one previous time in the same category for HUMAN TARGET.

“To be nominated alongside some of the most exciting composers working in the industry was, itself, a tremendous honor. I am totally overwhelmed by this win,” said McCreary.

McCreary credits his collaboration with show creator David S. Goyer as to what led to his first Emmy Award win.

“I must share this award with series creator David S. Goyer. When I played him my first demo for the main title, he gave me the greatest feedback a producer can bestow. He said the music was too short!” described McCreary. “The theme was so catchy, he wanted to hear more of it. So, he re-cut his first episode and nearly doubled the length of the Main Title sequence, giving me the opportunity to expand on my ideas. Now that the Main Title Theme and Main Title Design have both won Emmys, I think its safe to say that Goyer had the right idea!”

McCreary’s sweeping orchestral score for DA VINCI’S DEMONS was meticulously researched to accurately represent the time period, without being bound to it. His score combines full orchestra, Renaissance instrumentation, choir and ethnic soloists with the renowned Calder Quartet and surging contemporary synthesis.

“For DA VINCI’S DEMONS, I looked to the real-life Leonardo for inspiration. He famously wrote backwards and forwards, so I decided to do (try) the same thing with his theme!” said McCreary. “It was a nice idea at the time, but proved rather difficult to produce anything with emotional meaning. It took a while, but ultimately, I think the end result works beautifully. It's emotional, and fits Leonardo's character beautifully. Yet, at the same time, it feels like a palindrome.”

- From films Texas Chainsaw Massacre II to latest contributions like Smothered, Big Top Evil, etc… what gives you the sense of most satisfaction in your body of work.

Bill Moseley: What gives me the most satisfaction in my work is my longevity in show business. I never imagined a career as an actor, let alone working in my favorite genre, horror! I've had many satisfying roles, worked with scores of great directors, actors, cinematographers, but the fact that I continue to get work and do it well makes me feel great!

- Working with many director/actors more than once like Rob Zombie, Sid Haig, Kane Hodder, etc… do you feel when you choose to take on a project, asking yourself which one of your former colleagues might be on set or location? Who is part of your favorite extended family and you know will make this project rock?

Bill Moseley: Sometimes, I'll do a movie without having met the director, and I'm always a little apprehensive about getting on the same page with him or her. If a fellow actor w/ whom I've worked before is on the picture, it's a great help to my attitude and eases whatever tension I may have generated between my ears. For example, last December I worked on a feature called "Old 37," about two brothers who drive around in a beat-up old ambulance and show up at accident sites for no good reasons! When I found out that Kane Hodder was playing my brother, I was overjoyed and fired up! Kane and I go way back to fan conventions and The Devil's Rejects (he was the stunt coordinator!). He's a great guy, a very funny man and an actor who's both a joy to work with and someone who takes his job and his craft seriously. By the way, after Old 37, Kane and I worked on John Schneider's movie, "Smothered," earlier this year in
and around Baton Rouge, LA.

- In between gigs you find time to stretch out with the fans most recently following the Days of the Dead convention. Are you happy with the outcome of the "Days of the Dead" is there anyone you were happy to see/meet of a celebrity nature? Anyone you still get a little bit awestruck by and in your head thinking “that was cool”?

Bill Moseley: I love doing horror conventions, especially love meeting and re-meeting the fans, love seeing the new movies, love the travel, but most of all, I love hanging out with my fellow monsters! Three weeks ago, I traveled from LA to Calgary, Alberta, for a horror con, where I got to spend some quality time with the likes of Tony Todd, Patricia Tallman, Tom Savini &; the great Herschell Gordon Lewis. the following weekend I was in Kansas City at the KC Crypticon hanging with Sid Haig, William Forsythe, Ken Foree, Debbie Rochon, Tiffany Shepis and Lew Temple. We have a lot of laughs, exchange gossip and casting info, and generally have a wild old time. And we make a little money. AND we show the fans that for the most part, we're a tad saner than our on-screen personae!

- Craziest fan question, gift or comment… you know all those things popped in your head, right?

Bill Moseley: Someone once sent me a cow hoof that had been skinned and bleached. Not sure the message there, but I didn't need another one, so i gave it to Good Will (hahaha)!

- One thing that you are surprised that no one has ever asked that you are willing to share?

"Would you like me to pay for your daughter's tuition?"

- A quick message about life, something that someone shared with you… something you live by?

Bill Moseley: Hmmm, you mean like a saw, an adage or an axiom? Here's one: When I play a "psycho," I always play the character like I'm the only sane one in the room.

With Assassin’s Creed III

(Sept. 9, 2013- Fuengirola, Spain) Composer Lorne Balfe (Salinger, Assassins Creed III video game) took the Spanish crowd by storm!  On September 7th he headlined the Playfest concert with a 30 minute set of his music including a sneak peak at the music for the upcoming release of BEYOND: Two Souls, and his now award winning music for Assassin’s Creed III.  After the performance, the organizers of the festival presented Balfe with the prestigious GoldSpirit Award for Best Video Game Soundtrack 2012.

"I am so proud to have won the GoldSpirit Award for Assassin’s Creed III,” said Balfe.  “It means especially a lot to have been given the award by the fans and to have the game’s music recognized at such a fantastic festival as Playfest with a very special concert was a wonderful experience. The score to Assassin’s Creed has been a fantastic part of my life and so it was a wonderful achievement for the music to be recognized."

I had the great opportunity of this Cd dropping on my doorstep and like everything I listen to the whole album while I work. Sitting here at the end deciding to listen again or move on to something else, I stuck around. Artist Jann Klose brings his talent from track to track bring a force of different styles that make each song entertaining. I am stealing a quote from his song "The Kite", because it brings what we all try to reach to the years we have been trying to reach them.

Something they want to achieve

Co-inciding with the theatrical releases in France and United Kingdom, and the DVD release in USA, Screamworks Records will release Darren Baker’s experimental and eclectic score to Christopher MacBride's chilling thriller, The Conspiracy. Taking you to the dark underbelly of conspiracy theories, this part-mockumentary, part found footage horror is about two filmmakers who grow fascinated with an insane preacher who spouts out the most complex conspiracy theories one can think of. When the man vanishes, our heroes start looking for clues and are soon sucked into the world of secret societies and worldwide conspiracies...

The score for The Conspiracy was written by Canadian composer Darren Baker, who has been making music since 1998. With relatively few feature-length credits to his name, Baker is still one of the most promising talents of the Canadian film music scene as his score to The Conspiracy can be best described as an intelligent mixture of György Ligeti (as heard in 2001: A Space Odyssey) and the lo-fi industrialist electronica recently popularized by the film scores of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (The Social Network). The score’s dramatic highpoint, entitled “Threnody For Mithras“, will be a real treat for fans of György Ligeti and Krzysztof Penderecki.

MovieScore Media/Kronos Records will release Atli Örvarsson’s highly dramatic score for A Single Shot, David Rosenthal’s psychological thriller starring Sam Rockwell, William H. Macy, Ted Levine, Kelly Reilly, Jason Isaacs and Jeffrey Wright. The film tells the story of John Moon, a hunter who accidentally kills an innocent girl during a hunting trip. Taking away a stash of money from the girl’s shelter, Moon finds himself pursued by a group of hardened criminals looking for the same loot… The film opens theatrically in the USA on September 20, 2013 with the soundtrack album coming out on September 17.

The music for A Single Shot was written by composer Atli Örvarsson whose other current films include The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (2013), based on the bestselling books by Cassandra Clare, and Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013). The Icelandic-born musician began his film scoring career at Hans Zimmer's Remote Control Studios by contributing to the soundtracks of blockbusters like Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (2006) and The Simpsons Movie (2008); his more recent scoring credits include The Eagle (2011), Evidence (2013) and Colette (2013; also available from MovieScore Media/Kronos).

MovieScore Media/Kronos Records will release Atli Örvarsson’s powerful score for Colette, Milan Cieslar’s film adaptation of the novella A Girl from Antwerp by Pulitzer Prize nominated writer Arnošt Lustig. The film tells the story of an unlikely love affair that blossoms between Willie and a Belgian Jewess named Colette. The torrid romance is overshadowed by the Nazi occupation even though it’s very likely that the star-crossed lovers would have never met had it not been for World War II. Colette opens theatrically in the Czech Republic on September 12, 2013, and is expected to get international distribution later in the year.

The music for Colette was written by Hollywood composer Atli Örvarsson whose other current films include The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (2013), based on the bestselling books by Cassandra Clare, and Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013). The Icelandic-born musician began his film scoring career at Hans Zimmer's Remote Control Studios by contributing to the soundtracks of blockbusters like Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (2006) and The Simpsons Movie (2008); his more recent scoring credits include The Eagle (2011), Evidence (2013) and A Single Shot (2013; available from MSM/Kronos).

I remember watching this not knowing what I was watching, it was scary, fun, smart, racist, radical, unsure and loud... very loud. Now I am only talking about the show, this film is a look into the voice of trash, it was a great flashback. I would recommend if you are a fan of the man, myth and the show, if you are easily offended... then you please do watch.

A KING IS BORN OF BLOOD... Now I am a fan of the score to this film [click here], so of course my first thought was to like the film... as I watched.  I found this to be a great paced film with enjoyable fights and bashing's as the journey moved forward. As we make it to the end I felt it wrapped up nicely as I didn't see the coming or I did and didn't believe it.

It is worth the watch if you enjoy this style of film, oh and I do!

Desperately trying to save the life of his kidnapped wife, Brent commandeers a custom Shelby Cobra Mustang, taking it and its unwitting owner (Selena Gomez) on a high-speed race against time, at the command of the mysterious villain holding his wife hostage.

The action packed score is composed by Justin Burnett. Also features 2 songs by Allison Beal and Justin Burnett. Dark Castle / Warner Bros opens the film nationwide on August 30.

Joy I have is that I only get to talk about the score and the score to me will be the only redeeming thing we will take away from this project. I have heard that the critics were not to favorable to the film, but the score is a great paced moving you from place to place.

This is a wonderful piece of music, one you can listen to and get more each time you listen. I think we all get a life lesson and we learn from it.
